By far my favorite sushi restaurant in the area. Also the price was relatively cheap. The fish was very fresh and the sauces are excellent. The sushi rice was soft yet firm and well seasoned. Also i could tell that the tempura was fried in fresh oil and the color on it was good. The udon noodle soup was very refreshing and delicious. I would recommend the raw squid sushi and uni(sea urchin). 10 out of 10 would recommend. read more

I've lived in NoVA for most of my life, and I've put away my fair share of sushi on both coasts as well as Asia. So when I saw this place got two rave reviews and I'd never once heard of this sushi joint, my interest was piqued. This place is gonna be GOOD. Wrong, kiddo. I don't think I can chalk this up as an off night for the sushi chefs, cause, well it's sushi dammit. We sampled a variety of maki and nigiri -- sake, hamachi, spicy tuna, unagi and a few of the frankenstein rolls that are always on the menu. No way I could call this the best sushi in NoVA, or even Ashburn for that matter. The local joints Nagoya and Hama sushi beat it hands down, and I'd take Tachibana over this any day of the week. You know good sushi when it hits your mouth, your eyes roll into the back of your head, and you sit there thinking dear God, thank you for blessing us with fish and rice. Uhh, no such experience here my friends. The fish was bland and the chefs weren't all to generous on the portions, and the rice was falling apart every time our chopsticks touched them. We soldiered through, of course... but left disappointed. At least they had the 32 oz bumper size Asahi. That has never let me down. read more

The Beau and I tried this establishment while visiting friends in Ashburn. After a 4 hour drive, we were thrilled there was a sushi place right around the corner from where we were staying. Sushi is quick and easy, right? wrong. Maybe because we are spoiled from eating out in NYC all the time, we just weren't impressed. The menu seemed somewhat limited, but I'm almost sure its because we are used to having tons of options. Its decent place to eat, but just not fabulous. The Food - Surprisingly the tempura roll we ordered was actually fried, the entire roll, not just the meat inside. That threw us for a loop but it was good nonetheless. Another salmon roll we ordered was very fishy. I couldn't finish it or get past the fishiness of it. The portions were very small for the price. It was not extremely expensive but I expected more. The dessert was delicious, but its dessert. I've yet to see a place mess up ice cream. The Service/Decor - The decor is nice and cozy and the service was wonderful. They were very nice and greet you as soon as you walk in. Our waitress was very attentive and kept my cup full of tea at all times. I have not a single complaint about the service and they didn't bother us about sitting and lingering for a while. Overall I would come here if it was a last minute decision and lived across the street as my friends do or if for some strange reason I craved an entire fried roll. Otherwise I would probably look elsewhere. read more

This place, tucked away in the middle of nowhere, VA, gets some excellent fish. Among one of my fave sushi places ever and one of the best in the area. The chefs are very creative, making a wide variety of tasty rolls (the Volcano, with a sriracha sauce and spicy tuna is a must have, especially with a bit of wasabi in the sriracha, and the Las Vegas is everyone's fave deep-fried roll and another must-order). I have yet to be disappointed with the food I've ordered there. They also have an excellent sake selection and a good selection of beers (including the big bottles of Asahi). Service is quite good, and they handle large groups fairly easily (I went the other night with 30 people). A must-go for sushi lovers. read more

Just moved to Ashburn after living in DC and Arlington for the past 8 years. Samurai Sushi was my first sushi experience out here and I was very disappointed. The place itself was nice inside. Very clean, cozy, and the decor was nice. The sushi itself, however was not up to par. My wife and I split an order of edamame and shrimp dumplings. The edamame was good but the shrimp was odd and kind of fishy. I'm used to having whole pieces of shrimp in my dumplings but this seemed like it was minced or something and had a bad, fishy taste. For our main course we got a spicy tuna roll, a crunchy roll, and a couple pieces of hamachi. Both of the rolls were very small, didn't contain much fish, and just didn't taste good. The hamachi was good and the best part of the meal but you can't really screw that part up. I would not eat here again and my search for the best sushi in Ashburn continues. Stay tuned! read more

Samurai Sushi impresses me every time I visit this place. I have been there several times in the last year and the servers are always extremely attentive and friendly. The sushi, in my opinion, is always mind-blowingly good...it is always incredibly fresh and I have never been disappointed. I've visited many other sushi restaurants in the Northern Virginia area and Samurai Sushi is by far my favorite. The sushi menu itself contains a lot of variety, which is another plus that many other sushi restaurants do not seem to have. In addition to the standard items such as sake and unagi, they have interesting choices like the "Volcano Roll" (very spicy!) and many other unique rolls. I have not sampled the non-sushi menu as often, but their appetizers have never disappointed me. I've eaten here many times with my wife and three kids (8, 5, and 2). The sushi is fresh. The miso soup is outstanding. The service is very consistent. Do not eat here, my wife and I used to eat here often until we noticed a cockroach crawling on the wall behind the bar, we gave them the benefit of the doubt and returned about a month later on 03/17/16 and found a cockroach crawling in the same place but didn't notice it until it started to crawl on the bar towards our plates. I mentioned to the sushi chef that they have roaches, he looked at the roach, looked back at me and said "yeah, yeah" and went back to work. I have contacted the local health department and will not return until Loudoun County gives them a clean health report. The food is good though, just won't return until I know I won't get sick! read more

I've been to Samurai twice now, and love it. LOVE IT! Pretty much everything is fantastic. The Shumai soup is hands down the perfect way to start the meal. It's light, but has a fantastic flavor that really sets the mood. The Dragon and Red Dragon rolls are easily my favorite (hell, pretty much anything unagi is right up my palette). Also props to the spicy Ahi tuna. It's perfectly seasoned and basically melts in your mouth. You know sushi's good when you take a bite, and feel your body relax instantly. Service is pretty good, but can be a tad slow if you happen to arrive at the same time as another group. Not a big deal. It's worth the wait and the quality is definitely top notch. This has been my favorite place for sushi for the last 10 years! amazing. I do want to find out how many of their sauces/combos have gluten in them. I know the soy sauce is not gluten free, but are there other sauces that are not? I want to bring my mom but she has celiacs disease, so anything with gluten (maltodextrine/dextrose made with wheat as well) will make her very very sick. Someone please help! read more

This is a small store owned by Korean instead Japanese. I tried most of their spacial sashimi(not roll) to determine if they are a really good for sushi fan (please see the photo I uploaded). Their fish were very fresh. Rice and vinegar are balanced okay. However I don't like their seaweed. It's very salty and over powering the nature flavor of the seafood. I also don't like their shrimp tempura. They are too soft which soaked in the oil. it's not the best I had. Service was okay, even though they only got one waiter, but she is very nice and bring me anything just the time when I need them. It's a okay place to have some sushi roll. I truly can not say enough of this place. Samurai Sushi is the gem of Ashburn if not the whole of Loudoun County. First of the quality of fish that used. A simple tuna maki has a solid piece of fish in each bite, whereas other restaurants will have a medley of fish in place. The quality alone sets this place apart. Second, the location. If anyone knows where Samurai is located you know that most places have been disrupted over the years. Samurai has withstood over 15 years of service and should they go under due to forces outside of their control it will truly be a shame. Third, what it is. It is a literal hole-in-the-wall and I think that's what makes it the best. A quiet and calm atmosphere with regular faces that meet you that give you a sense of warmth and community. Samurai Sushi is for those who love quality and know what they as consumers should deserve. read more

Three words: Las Vegas Roll They named it that because that thing is MONEY. I order one of those just for myself because I refuse to share it with anyone, that is how good it is! All of the other sushi is good, but none of it stands out like that one roll. The other winner here is the sesame dressing for their salads. It's delicious!! This place had been a three-star to me, until our recent visit. A friend and I needed dinner at 9PM on a weeknight. No big deal, but in Ashburn, a suburb full of kids, that can be difficult. We saw Samurai was still open and popped in. The sushi was tasty, not my favorite ever, but fresh and delicious. Definitely try some of their house rolls instead of sticking to the basics, they were the best part. And instead of rushing us out or hovering like restaurants can do in the hour before close, they let us enjoy our sake, our meal, and were friendly and great. One of the best Sushi spots in the area. I normally go for the lunchbox which comes in a huge portion of tempura, sashimi, salmon teriyaki (substituted for chicken), veg wonton, edamame, soup and salad all for under 12 bucks! The sashimi is good quality and well maintained. Everything is made to order and you can absolutely taste the pride used. Breakdown in terms of stars: Service - Excellent service - waitress checked on drinks constantly and refilled my tea without me asking. Food - as stated above, I love it. I make a habit of coming here every weekend just for the lunch box. Atmosphere - very clean, not crowded, friendly and welcoming. Location - this is the only thing, it is in the heart of Ashburn which is not saying much. Ashburn is removed from most of the 'happening' areas in N.VA. Now that I live in Centreville driving to this place kinda sucks. I still do it though! Family Friendly - staff is great with kids, environment is welcoming. Nothing loud or annoying. Kids love to spend time here with me! Overall with the exception of the drive, I love this place. It is a goto spot, and when compared to other sushi places in the area, this one floats to the top. read more

I don't know how anyone can give this place anything higher than a 3 star at it's best. My husband and I were looking for a sushi place close to home before going to the Cinema and after reading the reviews on yelp, we decided to give this place a chance. We ordered the shrimp/veggies tempura and sushi a-la-carte. Tempura was ok, no complaints about that really. The sushi, however, was VERY disappointing. All the rolls that I ordered (which was california, dynamite, crab & avocado rolls) all ended up tasting exactly the same. The sushi rice wasn't seasoned at all so I ended up having to use a lot of soysauce to compensate for the taste. The quality and the freshness of the fish, roe, and sea urchin were really questionable. I guess when the salmon and tuna start turning color, that's when you know that it's not fresh and the ones that we got definitely didn't look fresh. Our bill came out to be $87!!! WTH?? (we didn't even order any beverages/alcohol). With tip, we spent over $100 for mediocre sushi that I feel was worth about a third of the price. This place is terrible & overpriced. Next time, I'd rather go a little further to Matsu in Centreville for sushi. read more

A pretty good sushi restaurant nestled in a strip mall, Samurai Sushi is pretty good for an American sushi joint. Staff was very pleasant and more expedient than what I am accustomed to with sushi. Price was average. Sushi was colorful and delicious. For bonus points the sushi chef totally looks like Hiro from Heroes. Only downside is the stuffy WASP patrons that make the atmosphere akin to a wake, but hey it's Ashburn, not Hiro's fault. YATTA!!! read more
