A favorite of mine for an early or a late lunch-the value can't be beat! The sushi at Miyama is the standard by which I rate any other. The lunch special at $9.95 for 2 rolls or the $12.95 bento box that includes soup and salad are great value for a light but filling lunch. Because the restaurant is right up the street from my home I'm a regular and always warmly greeted and taken well care of by the owners. I wish zero stars was an option. Horrible service and a resentful attitude from staff, which is nothing new. Throughout the years I have given Miyama innumerable chances to redeem themselves but the end result is always the same: Utter disappointment and $150 (at least) down the drain. Management is completely clueless as to what true "service" really means. Freshness of the sushi is lower than subpar. Tonight was no different; however, it was the very last opportunity this establishment will have to earn my business. Enough is enough. We placed a Miyama order on DoorDash for $125 (for myself and my two daughters). By 9:45pm our food still had not arrived so I contacted Door Dash. Per the DD rep, Miyama had set up a partnership with DD but never completed the process, yet did not take themselves off of the app! Thus, allowing patrons to place DD orders for Miyama. Granted, very poor management on DD's behalf. When I called the restaurant directly, they basically said it was my problem and hung up. In the end, DoorDash gave me a full refund plus a $30 credit to use on my next order. Honestly, i'm unsure as to who is more at fault, but this I know: Miyama is not worth the convenience of being within my neighborhood as there are many more sushi restaurants in Loudoun County that actually appreciate and work to earn my business. I've had takeout from here three times during COVID. We always get a variety of rolls (usually 3 basic and 2 specialty chefs rolls) with miso soup. Got a hankering for sushi last night and decided to try Miyama since it was so close to me. All of the sushi we ordered was pretty good - we had the Sushi Grace (9 pieces of sushi and a spicy tuna roll), a spicy salmon roll and a BMW roll (spicy tuna, salmon, yellowtail and avocado). The fish was super fresh and tasty. My favorite was the spicy salmon roll. I will say, the rolls were smaller than at other places I've eaten before. 6 pieces versus 8 for all except the BMW roll, and the prices were equal to the 8-piece rolls that other sushi spots. The BMW roll was just okay, it seemed kind of stale. Lastly, the online menu pricing isn't up to date, as everything we ordered was $0.50-$1 more than the menu listed. read more

First time here after living in the area for over 20 years on the recommendation of the wife as she came here once with a few friends. The lunch menu is a good deal so hey, why not? The place is pretty dead on a weekday and as we enter the sushi chef is behind the sushi counter and the other gentleman is also towards the back. He comes out after 30 seconds and guides us to a table. He comes back with menus and chopsticks/napkins and proceeds to throw them on the table in a heap. He doesn't set them in front of us as waiters typically do. For drinks we order water and hot tea. Wife orders a few rolls (snow crab california roll and salmon roll) and I order the Salmon Teriyaki bento box. The miso soup and the salad is quite tasty. As others have commented the salad dressing is similar to what is provided in teppanyaki steak houses (similar to a russian dressing) and it is good. The bento box comes out and the waiter tries to hand it to me as opposed to putting it on the table...kind of weird again. The wife likes the rolls she ordered, however, the salmon looks a bit on the dull side...not sure how fresh it is but the wife eats them all. The salmon is a good portion and comes over fresh veggies. There are also 3 shu mai and a few cali rolls. Nice portion considering the $10 price. Overall, the food is OK. Good deal for lunch. The issue is with the waiter...he needs to be a bit more professional as this is a sit down restaurant and not some carryout. Also, another pet peeve of mine - they charge for green tea...most Japanese restaurants provide tea for free...They should let you know ahead of time... We happened to stumble by this restaurant by accident as we were looking for a another restaurant in the same great falls shopping area. Given that we live literally across from this place, we decided we'd stop by and give it a try for dinner. You really couldn't tell much about Miyama from the outside, but once you walked in you noticed that it has a nice clean modern look with japanese elements. We had the Age Tofu as an appetizer and found it to be nicely fried with the dipping sauce on the side. I ordered some salmon skin roll and my wife tried out the king crab california roll. We thought they were pretty good, although i prefer my salmon skin roll to be alittle more deep fried and crunchier. My wife wanted to try out a shiitake roll, but didn't notice this on the menu, although they have a great assortment of other rolls. As our main dishes, a friend of ours tried one of their sushi entrees. He was pretty satisfied with the quantity and freshness of the fish and california roll. We tried the Nabeyaki Soba (soba noodles in broth w/ veggies, chicken and egg on top, and it came with 2 fried shrimp tempura on the side). The flavoring of the broth was nice and pleasant and the wife was happy that it was light on the salt. This was a winner for us. Finally topped it off with mochi green tea ice cream which was a good ending to the meal. Overall, we felt pretty good with our meal, the ambience of the place, and it's very close proximity to where we live. The pricing seemed comparable to the other japanese restaurants in the area. The waitress who served us was very nice and attentive. We happened to be the only ones dining at the time (probably attributed to opening only 3 weeks ago), so it'll be interesting to see how the service and quality of food will be once they start getting more business.
