My wife and I just had the most amazing dinner date at Sushi Cho. The ambiance and vibes were pitch perfect, refined without pretension. We made to feel so welcome and comfortable by the friendly and pleasant staff. We pored over the menu, intrigued by all the creative and delicious looking rolls. Everything looked great, all of them tempting. We decided on the Lobster in Paradise. Buddha Delight, Tuna Ninja and November Rain rolls. The rolls were beautiful to look at, the skill and care of the chef was evident in every single piece. It was a perfect visual representation of what we were about to do experience. Every bite was a discovery. The flavors of each element was distinct, yet melded wonderfully with one another. The ingredients were very fresh and everything was exquisitely prepared. Service was attentive, either without being intrusive. This allowed us to rave with one another as we enjoyed every bite. If you appreciate good service, great food and a passion for delivering a great restaurant experience, then you must come to Sushi Cho. It's been a while since we came back to this neck of the woods. We wanted Japanese and saw this place right by our hotel and decided to give this place a try. We were immediately seated after arriving. The restaurant is incredibly elegant, with the rightmost wall being made entirely of wooden panels and the leftmost wall being black with wall-length windows. Little black spotlights illuminate the restaurant from the rafters and a light-wood beverage station can be seen near the windows. We sat on a long wooden booth that lined the wood-paneled wall and this booth also had regular wooden chairs as well. A similar situation could be seen on the opposite wall too. We ordered the following: Soft shell crab- this was nicely fried and crispy. This was a nice size. It's sweet and our favorite seafood. Hubs and I loved it. Daughter liked it but liked the sushi better. LOL. Tuna Mountain, which is tuna sliced & chopped ahi tuna with masago mixed with special sauce on top. Daughter said that this was delicious and soft. She wished there was more. Hubs loved that the sashimi was dressed for him because he figured the chef knows more than he does and this didn't disappoint. SO much better than just wasabi and soy sauce Fantastic Maguro taco, which is taco style Tamaki with fatty tuna, caviar and scallion. I got this because I was curious about how caviar would taste. We split it amongst the 3 of us. Daughter loved it and wished she didn't have to split it. LOL. Hubs wasn't impressed with caviar and didn't understand the hype, but he thought that the tuna was fatty, unctuous and awesome. Sushi and sashimi combo, which has 7 pcs sushi, 12 pcs sashimi and spicy tuna roll. We loved the fact that there weren't any white tuna/escolar. A lot of places give white tuna as a filler and it's controversial. The sashimi was fresh and thick. Hubs' only complaint was the shrimp was cooked. He preferred amaebi instead of cooked shrimp. This came with a soup and salad and it was good, as well. Salmon lover roll, which has spicy salmon roll topped with fresh salmon, and more spicy salmon. LOL. Loved this description on the menu! Daughter loved that it was nothing but salmon on this order and that's how she liked it. Hubs agreed. Towards the end of the meal, we got a seared salmon belly on the house. This was a very entertaining dish because of all the fire and it was tasty, too. It was the ultimate dessert. It was my birthday and we didn't say anything. I was really happy and surprised with this. We saw the table next to us order the sushi and sashimi for 2 and it was served in a bird cage. It was so cute that I wished I knew about this. Got their lunch special of the chicken teriyaki bento box & tako yaki. The miso and tako yaki came out piping hot. I think this place has my favorite tako yaki now due to that reason alone. The bento box was a good deal and I had to take home the rest of the chicken and rice because I couldn't finish it all though I would likely try another bento next time or another lunch special - I thought the teriyaki was fine, but I have had better. The tempura was nice and I'm glad it's part of all the bento. At the end of my meal, I got a complimentary piece of the spicy salmon sushi. What a find!! Fantastic food quality. Extensive menu. Management and staff who genuinely act appreciative of your dining there. Not only was the flaming salmon belly a sight to behold, they are using high high quality Spanish king salmon. The shumai was as good as any I've had anywhere, anytime. I'm so glad there's a great sushi place in the area and I don't need to drive out as far! The speciality rolls are all amazing with generous toppings and portion sizes, so you'll def get full quick. I like the flaming salmon belly appetizer and it's quite a show when they light it on fire. The soft shell crab appetizer was pretty good! The shrimp tempura and okonomiyaki were standard. I was really excited to hear a new sushi spot opened up in the area. There's plenty of parking and it's a decent sized restaurant. I've heard good things about their Fairfax location so I was looking forward to trying this out. While they are new, they make up for it in other ways. My first attempt eating here was to-go, which I had to wait a bit to get greeted. While it wasn't the best experience, I could understand since it was busy and it just opened. This next go around, we went for lunch. Complimentary soup and salad. We had a few rolls not pictured here but I do want to highlight their apps. The salmon belly was really good. The sea-bass was melt in your mouth and perfect texture. We had a few rolls and were equally good. The service was great, servers were attentive and gave us everything we needed. Waiters always came by to make sure we were good, and even gave us complimentary Seared Yellowtail and Chutoro cuts, which were some of our faves from the night! Unfortunately, my disappointment was in the rolls we ordered.... the Mafia Roll was our favorite rolls that came recommended by our waiter, and a roll I highly recommend as well. Had like 5 different cuts of fish and multi-colored tobiko, and you would think it'd be too much packed into one big roll, but the flavors surprisingly balanced out well, a bit of sweetness, saltiness, and freshness! The Salmon Lover and the Lady Killer. Both stood up to the same high quality and was delicious. The quality of the fish was fresh and left me full with how generous their rolls are. The Service: Service was great here! The staff were very friendly and attentive. Food came out in a timely manner and the staff always came around to check up on me and refill water. The Atmosphere: This location is much better than Fairfax in terms of space/parking. This location has plenty of parking, due to it being in a big shopping complex. The dining space inside is spacious and has more tables as well. Overall, a 5/5. Quality and service is the same as their Fairfax location. Always top tier on all fronts. The toughest part of the evening was deciding what to order because they have a large menu. We tried the yellow tail temaki (taco style sushi) (Hama Wasa on the menu), several of the special rolls - Lady Killer, Salmon Lover, Flower Roll and some salads and a tempura platter. The tempura was crispy and light. You could tell the oil was fresh. My daughter loved the miso soup so much she stole mine so I can only assume it was fantastic. Service was great - every person we interacted with was not only nice, they seemed genuinely happy and in a good mood, which is rare these days.
