Bubblebee is a Ramen and Boba shop located near the Ashburn Medical Offices and Giant. Many of my coworkers rave about their ramen and food. The food gets prepped quickly and is flavorful. I came here just for a boba on my lunch break. I ordered on the kiosk and it came out very fast. The boba itself was a little undercooked and chewy, but the taro milk tea was flavored well and was the perfect amount of sweet. The ambiance is very comfortable/casual. There's only seven tables, but it wasn't hard to find a spot to sit when we came on a Sunday night for dinner. We ordered through the kiosk, but the staff were ready and willing to help customers with their orders behind the counter. I love how you can customize your own ramen bowl! I've been to a few ramen places and never seen a build your own option. They had several options for broth, noodle, and sides. The price was pretty reasonable too! Came back to finally try one of their ramens, and they did not disappoint. I had the Classic Pork Miso Ramen with some chicken katsu and other additions. It was delicious, filling and quite comforting. I also had a boba tea to go with my food. I think I had pineapple boba. I love their boba teas, so no complaints here. They always have a lot of people coming in and out for takeaways and mobile orders, but my order didn't take very long to come out from the kitchen. I used the self-service kiosk and regretted it after I saw the entire menu with pre-made ramen dishes at the front of the counter. The eating area was clean. My main complaint is the portions are really small for the price. Price points for a bowl are $15-20. After eating my noodles (which I thought amounted to maybe the same serving as instant), I was still hungry. I love everything about this place. I noticed the Honeypig neighbor but o wanted something small and new! Thanks to Yelp reviews, we ventured out to try this place. It's so cute inside. The staff is friendly. The Tofu was perfectly fried, just like Japanese style tofu. The katsu was also lightly fried and so delicious. The portion was big enough to share. The highlight of my meal was the Taro "snow" with brown sugar bubbles and 50% sugar. It was thick and tasty. I love the container it was in, so sturdy. This retsaurant recently opened up, somewhere in the heart of Ashburn! They specialize in various teas and ramen. There are a lot of items I would love to try, but for today, I stuck with the chicken katsu rice bowl ($12.95). They have pictures for the specialty items on their web site, whcih makes it helpful when ordering. They gave a generous portion of chicken and rice but very little sauce. You have a choice of ordering from a big touchscreen kiosk or the traditional way with the cashier. We chose to use the kiosk, which was pretty seamless. They have pictures of the items as well. I think it would be helpful if it also had descriptions for what type of tea was in each drink. I typically avoid jasmine tea in bubble tea as it can be a bit flowery. I also would like a description for the food and if you could have substitutions for sides. I am sure this will come in due time. I ordered the chicken katsu rice bowl with the mango lemon fruit tea (50%) with mango popping bubble. Bubblebee x Ramen is in the same shopping center as Honey Pig in Ashburn, so it can also be a great spot to stop in for bubble tea/ boba post-KBBQ eats. I ordered a personal ramen with the black garlic tonkotsu, along with some agedashi tofu + blueberry lychee tea. Everything came out fairly quickly, and all the food tasted super clean + refreshing. I enjoyed the amounts of the black garlic in the broth, and the chashu was fairly hearty. My friend enjoyed her ramen as well, and she ordered the green apple yogurt tea and she enjoyed that. I traveled to the area for work and was craving boba. The place I tried the day before was just meh so I'm extremely happy I found this place. I'm not an expert but I do enjoy my boba frequently. I have tried most of the Ramen places around Northern Virginia and have had ramen in a few different places around the country including Los Angeles, Seattle, New York City. I love that they offer golden boba. I like the concept of having a good bubble tea selection with a sizeable meal menu, and thus I was eager to like the place. The teas didn't jump out to me for their available flavors, but I'm a sucker for mango and had the mango orange tea. It didn't hit the spot as the orange made it a bit sour. I had the spicy tonkotsu which was not spicy and a little bland actually. I also tried a bite of the chicken katsu rice - it was very crispy but also a bit on the bland side per my dining partner. In contrast, the pork belly bun appetizer we tried was flavorful but steeply priced. On the menu, I saw 3 in the photo and expected 3, but we paid $5 for one little piece of pork in white bread. My bad though as the appetizer clearly reads "bun" rather than "buns" as other things on the menu state more than 1 piece if appropriate. The service was great and operated by real Chinese people (at least on the day I went). It was a cute place, but be careful sitting in front of the striped wall -- after a while you feel like it's moving in front of you. I'd likely come back for the bubble tea if I lived closer but this will not be a repeat visit for me since I have a favorite tea place closer to home. read more
