Siamese beef. Little sweet but very good.
    Alex S.

Had a dinner before movie and it was very enjoyable. The soup was very good and hearty ans tasty and the beef dish was very good as well- maybe little bit sweet. Service was quick and the servers do ask frequently if you need help. The store is connected to the movie theater and has outside seating as well- but haven't seen people using it though. Overall great ambiance.

Basil Fried Rice with Crispy Duck and no basil to be seen

I was originally to be seated at a raggedy table in the corner--nope. I asked to be moved, and they did so with no issue, which I appreciated. I asked for the lunch special and requested the soup while I figured out what I really wanted. The soup of the day was lemongrass--pretty traditional. After I placed my order, the soup came out right away, which was fine... I still could've changed my mind....right? Tell me why the soup had no flavor. None. I've been to Thailand multiple times, so I was expecting at least something authentic. I ended up ordering the Basil Fried Rice with a fried egg on top. They said the egg was an extra $3--no problem, we have money. I sent the soup back and the woman did not look pleased. I asked for spring rolls instead. Let me just say: those spring rolls are never worth $11.99 unless it's during the lunch special. I also ordered three spicy Basil Fried Rice dishes with crispy duck. Mistakes were made. Crispy duck had no flavor just crisp. That said, I'll be back to check out their happy hour and update my review. I got there around 2:15 PM--only one other person was dining in. Kitchen closes at 3, happy hour starts at 4.

My friend and I went to Nan Thai for lunch. She was craving crab rangoon and Nan is her favorite spot to go in the Herndon area! Great experience overall, we both decided to go out of our comfort zone and try something new. The staff were patient with us deciding and friendly and the ambience was very cute! Had a garden vibe to it with flower and vines throughout the space. Appetizer: Crab Rangoon - Unfortunately I don't have it pictured since we were just busy enjoying had a crispy flaky outside and a tasty crab cream flavor inside and paired perfectly with a sweet and sour chili sauce. Wish it was on the menu though, if my friend hadn't been there we wouldn't have known it was an option. 5/5 Main Courses: Salmon Panang - The curry was a tasty red sauce that had a bit of a kick to it but was toned done nicely with the sweet coconut flavor. The salmon was crispy which made it pair well with the curry. I was initially fearful that salmon and curry wouldn't pair, but the crispiness of the salmon made it work well. They only critic I would have was although I love broccoli and it tasted good, it wasn't very cohesive with the overall dish. It seemed like it was randomly placed. 4/5 Drunken Noodles w/ Pork Belly - My friend really enjoyed the noodles with the pork belly. She decided to add the pork belly to the drunken noodles instead of chicken and I think it was a good choice. Many Thai places I have been to don't offer that so I loved that add on! I do feel when I tried the dish myself, it could've been a bit more spicy or more flavorful. 3/5

The best thai food in town. I love that Nan always decorates with the season. The restaurant is beautiful and lovely. The service is superb.

We came to celebrate a birthday and wanted some good and authentic Thai food. And Nan Thai didn't disappoint! The food is very yummy and service was amazing!! There were only two people taking orders and serving and somehow they managed it, honestly better than some places that have many staff. Both people served and came by to check on us multiple times throughout our meal. And I have to mention that when we first arrived, we were asked if the temperature was ok (we had baby with us). Never been asked that at a restaurant before, and I appreciate that they are also considerate of the little ones. Everything we ordered was delicious, although portions could have been bigger. Fried Calamari - Super crispy and aromatic and sauce it came with complemented it very well. Would order again. Shrimp Kapow - This was recommended to us, not sure if it's on the menu but it's one of the best dishes we had. The shrimp was crispy and the flavor is amazing. Recommend! Fried Flounder - This item is not on the menu and was at market price, the wait for it was a bit long but when it came out, it was very delicious. The sauce it came with tastes like it has tamarind which brings a nice tangy and pleasant savory taste. Love it! If you love fried fish, you will love this. And the norm, we got a seafood fried rice and 2 kinds of noodles Drunkun Noodle and Pad See Eaw. It was all very tasty. We had a brought a cake which we'd asked for them to hold for us, and at the end without request, they surprised and brought out the cake, even dimmed the lights and sang happy birthday for us. It was so sweet! Just love how much they care for customer's experience.

My experience at this restaurant was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment I arrived until I left, I felt welcomed and pampered by the food and the service. I highly recommend it! Cant miss item....Boba Milk Tea

Sone of the best Thai food I've had in the DC area. (I'm a dual citizen of Thailand and the U.S., and lived in Bangkok for a while). This place is legit. A little pricey, but worth it. I could tell from the pics that this place was less Americanized than others, and I was right. Apparently they sometimes have steamed chili lime sea bass on special and I wish they had that this night, but I wasn't disappointed by what we got. Taste: We got the soft shell crab curry (pad phong garee), the glass noodle salad (yum woon sen), and crispy duck drunken noodles (pad khee mao). I hate it when Thai-American restaurants add bell peppers to dishes, and they did add bell peppers to the crab curry, but it was not noticeable, mainly as garnish which is fine. The soft shell crab was amazing, perfectly fried, still crispy under the curry, perfect spice level *chefs kiss.* The pad khee mao noodles were just right, not too thick, not mushy/easily falling apart, again no over use of bell peppers. They did use instead of and no fresh green peppercorns, but honestly where can you get real kaprao leaves in the US? Solid execution. Absolutely no complaints on the yum woon sen. Sour, spicy, salty, fresh. Experience: We sat immediately and service was good. They don't have a fountain yet still gave free can refills for Diet Coke. The staff was friendly and it was clear they have regulars who come in often. The decor is whatever, but the food was solid, so it doesn't matter. Mood Before/After: I was exhausted from traveling to and from Pittsburgh on the same day, but this picked me up really nicely. Fullness: Very full for three people. We did order a beef dish, but I can't eat beef. There were leftovers. What else did I eat/do today affecting my experience: I spent almost 10 hours in a car starting from 4am and also went to a really bad Chinese restaurant in rural Pennsylvania, so the contrast may have made me feel biased.

NOTE: This is the old Tara Thai (Worldgate) Herndon location. SAME OWNER, SAME COOKS! So if you liked Tara Thai at this loc, HAVE NO FEAR - it's just a name change. I was told when I asked why the change - it was because the owner didn't want to be part of the Tara Thai franchise anymore. Had no idea Tara Thai is a franchise business! Ahhhhhh - got it! So add: "savvy business owner" to the list of pluses for this place. I can confirm - the food is just as wonderful, the staff is just as friendly, accommodating and customer service oriented. The interior is just as lovely, clean, comfortable. SAME SAME SAME. I ordered the Panang Curry Chicken - it came with rice and the dish portion size was HUGE. It was amazingly delicious. The Panang sauce was not thin and soupy - it was thick, flavorful and peanut-y just the way I love it. Just the sauce itself could be spooned over rice to make a meal. My friend ordered the duck salad - it looked awesome. We split an order of crispy spring rolls - 4 ROLLS TO AN ORDER! Incredible value and even more delicious - perfectly tightly wrapped rolls, deep fried and crispy just so and piping hot. FRESH FRESH FRESH INGREDIENTS! I mean, take a look at my pics - they speak for themselves! Seriously. Look! The icing on the cake was the Thai beer we each had to accompany our meal. The beer came with FREEZING COLD GLASSES - a nice touch x 1,000. A lovely meeting spot for our girls-dinner. Scorrrrrrrrrre!

The first time I visited Nan Thai, I came to meet up with Reston Foodies group for happy hour. I wasn't in the mood for an alcoholic beverage, but thankfully there were tons of boba options to my heart's delight! I felt like my drink was so much more fun than alcohol! (What am I saying?) The staff took great care of us and I loved the ambiance of the restaurant, especially all of the fun neon signs! I was motivated to order takeout from them because they take special care to mark what items are coeliac-friendly, even online. It's so hard to guarantee what is actually gluten-sensitive, so I appreciate that I can order easily from them. Everything always tastes great and the portions are huge.

We had a large, hearty meal here! Everything was quite delicious, and really fast service. Like we weren't even done with the appetizers and the entrees starting coming out one by one really quickly. Very fast service was much appreciated. Everything tasted fresh as well. I loved the appetizers - Kanom Jeeb, which I'd compare to the Chinese dish shumai. The tofu pad thai was pretty good, I've had more flavorful pad thai but overall it was good and the tofu was crispy! I'm not the biggest fan of Chicken Panang Curry in general but my boyfriend loves it and he was a big fan, and thought it tasted great ! We also ordered Crispy Duck Drunken Noodles - my favorite dish for sure. It was spicy but really good, noodles may have been over cooked cuz they were pretty soft but I still i liked, could also be due to having a lot of sauce which I'm not complaining about. The crispy duck was amazing and so so good. Overall, pretty decent Thai food. We drove about 50 minutes to try it out especially because we were drawn by their very active social media presence. A good place to eat when in Herndon!

Another Nova Thai flop for the books: It was a beautiful day for a date with my wife. It's like unwinding after a long week at work. This restaurant is conveniently located near an AMC theater, making it a nice choice for a quick snack before or after a movie. That's exactly what we did. My personal experience with Thai food in Northern Virginia has been mediocre at best. And this eatery did not disappoint us. All of the dishes we ordered seemed to have a lot of brown sugar or teriyaki sauce in them. We requested level 4 of their spicy scale, which ranged from 1 to 5, with 5 being the hottest. Our dinner was as sugary as McDonald's soft serve ice cream. If that's one of their hottest items, I can't imagine what their mild food tastes like. I'm not sure why they bother asking what level of spice I want if they're just going to smother the food in sugar. Isn't it normal to ask for spicy and get it? We split the zebb wings and basil bomb. Wings were not bad. However, Basil Bomb was a huge letdown. We didn't like the combination of chewy squid, dry-ish shrimp, and strange sauce. It was supposed to come with fish, but none were found. On the plate, our fishing method was unsuccessful! There was a lot of Basil leaf, as the name suggests, but for some strange reason, we didn't smell it much. You should be able to smell it from miles away based on the amount of Basil leaf on the item, but sitting 1 ft away from it, we failed; or rather, the item failed us. Perhaps the food is suitable for Caucasian tongues, but not for those from Eastern Asia. Another flop for Nova Thai!

My mom and I were seated right next to the front door by the manager. Since it was freezing outside and the door kept opening, we politely asked if we could move to a table away from the draft. He told us no because a large group was expected to arrive soon. We then asked another employee, who said it wouldn't be a problem and moved us to a different table. A few moments later, the manager noticed we had been reseated. He came over, abruptly took the menus from our table, and angrily told us to leave the restaurant. The way he spoke to us was aggressive and totally uncalled for, especially considering his own staff had seated us. We decided to leave at that point. As we were heading out, he raised his voice again and told us to "go home," which was embarrassing and uncomfortable with other diners around. There was no confrontation on our end -- we didn't argue, complain, or cause a scene. We simply asked not to sit in the cold draft by the door. The entire situation escalated solely because of how the manager handled it. It's disappointing because the restaurant advertises friendly, welcoming service, which was the complete opposite of what we experienced. After reading other reviews, it also seems this isn't an isolated issue. If the owners see this, I'd strongly suggest addressing how customers are spoken to. No one should be yelled at or treated aggressively for making a simple, reasonable request.

I actually want to rate this meal 2.5 stars but since I can only give whole stars here, I'm giving the restaurant the benefit of the doubt. I think it can still be pretty good, but not with the dishes we ordered. We came for lunch and ordered off the lunch special menu. That meal comes with the entree, and either a vegetable spring roll and chicken lemon grass soup, or a vegetable spring roll and vegetable lemon grass soup. They offer a third alternative of two spring rolls as well which I think is a pretty nifty option. The two entrees we had were the vegetable tofu drunken noodles and the chicken sweet basil (pad krapow). The spring rolls were fine. Crispy on the outside, cabbage on the inside. The soup was unfulfilling. It tasted a bit like lemongrass soup but it was not tasty. For the entrees, we were able to adjust the spice level: I went for "hot" (3 out of 4 of their scale), while my dining partner went for "medium" (2 out of 4) on the drunken noodles. At most Thai restaurants, these two dishes generally have a similar flavor profile. Here, they do, indeed, have a similar profile between themselves. However, the sauce was quite red. It had a vinegary overtone and possibly some tomato base to it. It did not match the pad krapow flavor profile that I've found at basically every other Thai restaurant I've been to (in the United States and Thailand). It could be this is an authentic version I'm just not familiar with, but I really did not like it. Overall, Thai Luang is a decent place. Perhaps some of the other dishes and curries are good, but there are too many other Thai restaurants in NOVA these days for me to use up a meal coming back here.

The entire bottom broke from the top and spilled the contents over 4 people. Half my pants leg was covered. Another had her purse drenched. Another her shoes were soaked.
