I've been here twice, the service is decent, the food is just ok. To me it might be a bit overpriced for what you get as they seem to uncharge for just about everything. Now this is probably one of those places you go for the experience as opposed to the fine dining. If it's a birthday or perhaps you have some kiddos in your family who might be a bit adventurous as far as eating its worth going. I will say when we were there last weekend, it was really cold inside to the point that I couldn't even take off my coat to dine. Not sure if there was something going on with their HVAC system. read more

We came to celebrate my son's 21st birthday based on Benihana's national reputation, and had the expected experience. Food was fine, the cooking was entertaining, but not distinctive from it's competition a few blocks away, which WAS and is again my frequent go-to. Then, to toast his birthday, we ordered 2 Sakes. They brought us 2 bottles. Normally, when one orders an adult beverage, it's by the glass unless otherwise understood. I informed the waiter that we only wanted enough for a toast, not to get toasted. He said, "This is what you ordered". I said I didn't realize that, and could they please remove them. NO! I asked for the Manager, who told me the same thing. I subsequently reached out to their corporate offices and was told the same thing. On a $200+ dinner bill, you'd think they could absorb one of the drinks in the name of good customer service. I will never frequent Benihana again, and never took any of my corporate clients, going to local establishments instead. read more

My family and I went here recently, and we were all pretty disappointed. Definitely the worst Benihana experience I've had, and I've eaten at 7-8 locations in Florida, Michigan, and Illinois a few dozen times in total. The food was ok - the chicken and shrimp were done well, but our medium steak request came out well done and underseasoned; the same was true for the mushrooms and chicken fried rice (usually delicious). The filet, in particular, was pretty tasteless without the dipping sauce and very tough; definitely wasted the more expensive cut of meat with that preparation. In addition, we felt like we were being rushed out as soon as the grill was turned off - pressed for whether we wanted carry out containers while we were still eating. We also realized on the way out that we weren't offered the ice cream at the end of our meal that came with it. Definitely didn't feel welcomed. (And for some unknown reason the restaurant cancelled my reservation while we were en route, as I saw in my email after we ate). Finally, unlike other locations I've been to, I was surprised that they charged extra for mustard sauce (much preferred to the mayo-based yum yum sauce) and to have the fried rice be spicy. Seems a little nickel and dime when you're already paying $50-60 per meal. We drove out of our way to go here and would not do it again. I think we would have had a much better experience at Texas Roadhouse or the like. read more

How bad can Benihana?? Terrible!! I should have listened to my friends! It has gone from bad to Terrible!! Came here from my birthday celebration. What i thought would be a joyous celebration turned to be an utter disappointment. The prices are marked up. Don't be fooled by their so called 5 or 6 course meal... The onion soup is nothing fancy. Its more like a highly salted onion broth with 2 paper thin mushrooms and spring onion shards. Next is a salad that came out of a salad bag with 2 cherry tomatoes with a huge dollop of ginger dressing. They will upsell everything. Fried Rice not included.. charge! The sauces $6 for some waygu butter. Pass!! They try to sell you Waygu steak. Don't get it... over priced. We got seated at 11:15.. it took forever to get anything. Our waiter would come and go. They came the hibachi chef. Im not sure if it was his first day but usually Hibachi chefs puts on show. He flipped his spatula around and called it day. My nephew could do better. First he cooked the fried rice which is mixed with carrots and peas which were dried up. He mixes in egg and serves, next is the zucchini and onion... then its the proteins... Most of my steak was fatty cuts.. By the time, I got my steak all of my food was cold. They give you yum yum sauce and ginger which is included. Our waiter checks in and then disappears. I was supposed to get birthday dessert and celebration but nothing. I had to ask for my bill because who knows where my waiter went. Later on I felt sick. The service and food is terrible and not worth it. You're better off going Sakura or MiYako. read more

Slow day on Saturday. Started off with the Benihana Long Island Iced Tea. *Barcardi, Hendrick's, Patron Silver, Grey Goose, lemon sour, black tea, and a splash of cola. I thought they brought me a lemonade. 1* for the drink. They have a 5-course and 6-course menu. The difference is no desert with the 5-course. But if you add a lobster tail it costs more for the 5-course, go figure. 1st course - Benihana Onion Soup. I would call this a broth with two thinly sliced pieces of mushroom and a few sprinkled chopped green onions. 2nd course- Benihana salad. A iceberg lettuce salad with two cherry tomatoes, a smattering of shredded carrots, and a ginger dressing. 3rd course - Hibachi shrimp appetizer (3 small shrimp), Hibachi vegetables (zucchini and white onions), mushrooms (they forgot to bring these), homemade dipping sauces, steamed rice, and the main entree. For me it was the Deluxe Treat - Filet mignon and cold water lobster tail. Japanese hot green tea. 4th course - ice cream or sherbet. If everything comes on a single plate, I don't think it counts as multiple courses. Manager overheard me ask about my mushrooms which I didn't get and cut some off the check. An experience that is on its last legs and needs a post-covid revitalization, but which, in its current state, misses the mark. The food is as odd in pricing as it is in portion sizes; is questionably seasoned and executed; and does not always taste evenly fresh across the board. While I understand the costs of running such a business are high, the menu does not accurately reflect the quality of product. The prices are not always transparent either; particularly in the case of email coupon redemptions. What was stated in my email was at odds with what an on-site manager deemed to be the procedural minimum to utilize the coupon. Let's just say there was a big difference. I took it on the chin, as I generally lack the desire to argue; and I offer lenity toward struggling businesses. Lastly, I did not receive all the products I ordered and yet I was still charged for them. I just wanted to hurry up and finish my meal, however, so I did not raise the issue as the difference was quite small (but still noticeable). I am having trouble updating my location -- I live in Leesburg VA now (not sure if my profile still says Maplewood NJ). Going to Benihana's for my kid's birthdays were a tradition when they were growing up. We always had such a fun experience. When my adult son suggested we go for his birthday yesterday, we were looking forward to it. The first thing we noticed was the prices -- they have gone up exponentially. I realize that all prices have increased so thought okay, it's to be expected. The next thing was the waiter started coming up right away to see if we were ready to order. When we said we needed a few minutes, he left only to come back very quickly. This happened several times and I was feeling really rushed to place our order. Then, as he was taking the orders, he was really pushing the expensive Wagyu beef and brought out different cuts for us to look at hoping to upsell us. Then every step after this, I felt rushed. He kept trying to take bowls and plates before we were done. Then, as we were still eating our dinner he came back and asked if my son will want them to sing happy birthday and are we ready for our ice cream. I said yes to the singing and not yet to the ice cream -- we all literally still had most of our meal in front of us. He came back again a very short time later to see if we were ready yet. At this point I said I was feeling rushed. But the rushing didn't stop and when he brought the check to us, he literally stood there and waited while we were obviously looking over the check (and trying not to react to the $300+ check for the 4 of us) We kept checking the hours to make sure we weren't there past closing, but the restaurant closed at 10 and we were done by 8:45. It was stressful for us -- I finally relaxed after we paid and the server left us alone to finish. The costs are high, as I said, and much of what we are paying for is the experience, so for that premium cost, we should be treated better. Me and my party of 9 went to this restaurant for my mother's birthday and spent well over $700.00 and we were freezing. Everyone in the restaurant was eating with winter coats with hoods on, It felt like we were eating inside of a walk in freezer, we waited over an hour for the chef to come out to start cooking, by time the chef got done with cooking the meat the rice was brick cold, we had to hurry up and ask for To-go bags so we could hurry up and leave. The waiter told us the heat was not working and that someone is working on it. They should have told us that they didn't have heat and I would've canceled my reservation. We've been to a lot of hibachi places and this was by far the most subpar in flavor. The prices was also expensive. I ordered the steak and shrimp and ended up getting 3 pieces of shrimp that were just part of the appetizer. My husband pointed out to me that the chef screwed up my order and didn't give me the shrimp that was part of my order so he shared his portion with me. The fried rice was bland and dry. There was no soy sauce on the table to season my food with aside from the yum yum and ginger sauces. My family enjoyed the experience but the food was just meh and wouldn't go back for the price. read more

Made reservations for 5:30 got there a bit early and was seated at 5:30. Food was not bad but nothing amazing either. The service however was the worst I've had in a long time. After a very long wait for our first round of drinks I asked for a drink menu and waited for 15 mins. Got one then about 30 mins after that waiter asked if I wanted anything. We were finished eating so I told him no. While I waited for our ice cream for another 20 mins he came back apologized for being busy and asked if we were ready for the bill. I said yes and 38 mins later got the bill with no ice cream. I then waited about 10 mins for him to go find the machine so I could pay. A ton of people waiting to be seated during this adventure as well. Very frustrating to sit at a table with nothing to eat nor drink for that long. read more

Horrible service, experience, and food. Ruined daughter's 7th bday dinner tonight. For $300, we should have at least had someone treat her like she mattered... The chef was poorly trained. Kept dropping the knives. Barely interacted, let alone made eye contact. I think her name was Roxana -- she was very unprofessional and the experience was not at all what we had expected. My kids kept asking if she was going to do something else next...but no. Nothing happened. What a disappointing birthday dinner. Sad thing is, we had all really been looking forward to it. We even drove 30 min from Centerville, where they have plenty of good mom & pop hibachi places, for the OG Benihana experience. What a mistake! No one sang her happy bday. We had to beg for things like water, refills, chopsticks, sauce, etc. Then we had to beg for her bday dessert that was supposed to be included. The tea I was supposed to get with my meal was another thing they made us beg for...why sell it as a "six course meal" if you're going to make everyone feel like they're a burden for asking for the things that are automatically supposed to come with the meal? The food was bland and poorly seasoned. The people we sat with started instructing the chef on how to cook their food because she wasn't seasoning it at all. Such an embarrassment! They also had to beg for things like more sauce, tea, their ice cream that was supposed to be included with their meal, etc. They didn't want to give my daughter a birthday mug even though I had a certificate because it was a weekend...despite the fact the certificate didn't say anything about any sort of weekend limitations, not to mention we spent $$$ on four meals and definitely already paid for it anyway. Why make customers jump through hoops like that?! If you want a special night for your kid's birthday, go anywhere else. This is by far the worst restaurant we've been to in the DMV. It totally ruined all positive memories I had of Benihana as a kid. Avoid at all costs! We wasted 3 hours and $300 that we will never get back but, worse than that, my kid was let down. Let me start off by saying if I could give negative stars I would. I haven't been here in over 10 years. My parents and I brought my little brother here for his birthday and I genuinely feel bad that we subjected him to this horrific experience on his day. Service: Immediately the service was an absolute shit show. It was clear to my family and the strangers at our table that this server had zero experience either at this particular restaurant or in the restaurant industry in general. He was extremely unorganized and because of his lack of competence the entire order was wrong, causing our experience to last double the amount of time. Not only that but he picked up and set down water glasses but gripping the rim of the glass and his underwear was out the entire time. Drink: I ordered a cocktail that legitimately looked like it was half empty and I went to speak to the bar tender directly, she did fix the problem but that didn't take away from the fact that my cocktail quite literally tasted like the remnants of the bar mat and pineapple. It was foul. My parents ordered a bottle of sake that they had to remind the waiter about 3 separate times. Food: This is the only subject of my experience that I have something some want positive feed back. Other than my order needing to be not double but TRIPLE checked the chef put on a great show and did a great job. The food quality wasn't great though, that being no fault of the chef because it was lacking freshness over anything else. Atmosphere: I understand that this restaurant is a birthday hot spot especially because I myself was there to celebrate a birthday but good lord please give the damn tambourine a break. It was no joke every 5 minutes the staff would come out and sing happy birthday and hit that tambourine in the most obnoxious way possible. Very unnecessary, wrap it up. Overall I can say with great confidence I will never been going to a Benihana again and honestly i didn't have high hopes but I genuinely didn't think it would be this bad. This is my 2nd time coming here...my first visit was in April 2022. I always get a birthday coupon but never had an opportunity to try them until last year and I love them. The staff always makes you feel extra special when they know you are celebrating a birthday. They are super nice and very attentive. Tip: sign up for the birthday coupon...it is $30 off for spending $60 or more which can include food, dessert and non-alcoholic drinks. It also includes a scope of free ice cream. I ordered the Hibachi Chateaubriand and added scallops and even through it comes with steamed rice, I ordered the veggie fried rice which is an extra $5.40. This is literally the only place where I eat the fried rice...it is so delicious and flavorful. I am not a fried rice person so that is a huge compliment! I ordered my steak medium and it also comes with grilled mushrooms. LOVE all of it along with the grilled shrimp, zucchini and onions! The chef was very good and entertaining...most importantly cooked and seasoned everything perfectly! I wish this place was closer to me because I love them! I wish I stayed home and put $60 in the toilet and flushed. I've never disliked hibachi until I came here. Hibachi is my favorite type of food but I actively did not enjoy Benihana. The staff is nice, but the food is so terrible and flavorless. I spent over $60 and got unseasoned chicken, rice that was slightly burnt and crunchy with little flavor (by the way you have to pay an extra $8 to have fried rice instead of white), a mediocre soup, a small amount of onions and zucchini, a plain tea, and a scoop of ice cream. Go to Kobe Japanese Steak & Seafood House in Leesburg instead, they are 10x better. read more

I grew up outside of LA and in Orange County California. We ate at Benihana all the time. The quality of the food was exceptional. When Rocky Benihana was found guilty of insider trading in 1999/2000 a private equity firm took over and in 2024 The ONE hospitality group bought it. The quality of food has dropped like a stone. The prices remain very high. It's a shame. Rocky cared about the quality of the food. It was always a treat to go there. I just ordered lunch (shrimp fried rice and miso soup). It was incredibly expensive and the grease used in the fried rice tasted rancid. Dulles Town Center has lost so many restaurants (PF Chang's, Chevys, etc) and the mall is virtually dead. I'm not sure how Benihana is staying in business but it's not the food. When you start hiring line cooks and pay them 25.00 an hour to cook with low quality ingredients, this is what happens. Don't waste your money. The miso soup was good but the fried rice tasted so off I dumped it in the trash. read more

As you arrive the place looks small but as you get closer the windows seemed like they have been wiped down with something dirty rag as it had smudge everywhere. When you walk in,the smell in there wasn't so appealing. However we gave it the benefit of the doubt as we were with family and we went there to celebrate. Then proceeded to place wrong orders in front of other visitors. Realized his mistake, but the others had already started eating. Absolutely ridiculous. Kids kept asking if he was going to do anything else. We just got a shrug. Asked for bill - they at least corrected it, but only after making us wait for the other patrons to finish our dinner. We had a very disappointing experience at Benihana. I don't think you go to hibachi for the food, more for the show, but I thought the service, show, and food were all subpar here. We arrived slightly early for a 5:30 reservation, but we were not seated until until somewhere between 5:50-6 PM. Then, we waited for our drinks and food until almost 6:30 PM. Then, somehow, after waiting all that time, the show/food preparation felt rushed. At most hibachi places, I've found the person doing the show/food preparation to be fun and engaging. Not here. The engagement with the people at the table was minimal; the jokes felt repetitive; the person cooking the food basically just banged his utensils a bunch; and, after telling my kids that the chef would try to throw food into their mouths (something I've always seen done at these types of places), that didn't occur. We made our reservation for 3 at 530 showed up at 515 and were seated almost exactly at 530. It is very loud which we expected but the waiter was almost whispering causing us and the other family at the table to ask multiple times what he said. He told us he was new so he couldn't answer many questions about the menu. after a bit of a wait we were brought our soup. Right after that we received our soup and rice. He didn't give me one but had one on the tray. He left and when he returned I told him I did not receive rice. He said he would check on it. and eventually did bring me one which was already cold (assuming the one he had on the tray from earlier). I asked for water multiple times. He finally brought me one in a glass that had chunks of food on the outside. I had a drink and asked him for a drink menu awhile after finishing my first one. He brought me one after a while and then our dinner was served. After we were all done eating he came back and apologized for being busy wondering if I would like another drink. I told him no since we were done eating. We didn't leave the restaurant until 730. We were done eating our meal at 630. We never received ice cream that came with the meal, however, the other family seated with us did. A hour to pay the bill was an obnoxious amount of time. I have always been told that Benihana was the best hibachi and my wife has loved others we have been to but this place was over rated, when I spend 225 for 2 adults and a child I expect to be able to order drinks, get warm food, and be able to pay my bill in a reasonable amount of time. Reservations - 4 stars. Easy to call and make a reservation. Had plenty of room- now I know why. Customer service - Just awful. I would give zero stars if I could. This restaurant is mismanaged like no other I've ever been to. We sat at 715 for our reservation. It took 30 min to even get drinks and and over 1 hr 45 min for our hibachi chef to even show up. This is after we were promised 5 min over and over again. The excuse was that they didn't have enough chefs. Well then why accept all these reservations?! The server just kept saying he didn't know what was going on. The manager promised 5 min over and over again. Half our party walked out in disgust from waiting. Food - 1.5 stars. Chef was uninterested and uninspired. Meat and rice all bland and underseasoned. The steak was cooked to the right temperature but that's about the only redeeming part of the food. Our order was supposed to come with dessert. They didn't even ask or bring it out. At that point we didn't care. I will note that the manager did take 30% off our bill for the horrible service so I will give credit there. However - there is nothing else redeeming about this restaurant. Stay away! read more

The salmon was a nice portion. However, the entire meal was so underseasoned that we took nearly all of it home so I could season the food and actually eat it. Such a shame. read more

Restrooms have the strongest raw sewage smell I've ever smelled in my entire life. Even holding my breath, it was so strong I felt sick. Showed up for a 6:45 reservation for 6 people and they put us at a table with 3 other people so we were crammed into the table with an extra chair shoved on the corner. Was given an option for another table with the promise it would only delay things 10 minutes and that we would get a "master chef". It was actually over an hour before our inexperienced chef arrived who proceeded to cook the most tasteless hibachi I've ever had in my life. Seafood tasted extremely fishy and not fresh. My Chateaubriand should have been medium but was 5 minutes past very well done. The restaurant was also ridiculously hot, smelled like body odor, sweat, and sewage. This place is falling apart. We could not have had a worse experience for my daughter's birthday. This place used to be amazing, but I would steer clear. read more
