We came back tonight for the AYCE. You order from an app that you connect from your phone. The ordering was easy and each person in the party can order items at the same time. There's a limit on nigiri/sashimi to one piece per order. What that means is that, when you put in your first (and subsequent orders), you can order one tuna, one salmon, etc nigiri/sashimi. That is a lot better than what I originally thought, which was one nigiri/sashimi total for each round. The variety in the AYCE is impressive. Lots of sushi, sashimi, nigiri, salads, soups, variety of appetizers (not all fried stuff!) and hibachi (beef, chicken and shrimp). Tonight, the food arrived pretty quickly after we put in an order. There was an issue toward the end of the evening when the app stopped working at our table and the table next to ours. The Staff did what they could to fix things; it did take about 20 minutes, though. I'm assuming this isn't typical. Staff did say that this does happen from time to time and the customer needs to exit the app and reorder. Except for the 20 minute delay, things worked fine. We placed at least 12 small orders during our meal. The staff was very good about filling water glasses, bringing our food and taking away empty plates. Really - high praise for the staff. The restaurant is very pleasant to sit in. It has Asian motif and nice music playing over the PA. The only issue was with the ordering system, which, as I said, I'm thinking was unusual. Went for AYCE sushi. Social media makes it seem so nice, but please avoid if possible for your health and safety. Many raw things were warm, and I got terrible stomach pain and nausea from their raw oyster, which was warm and tasted terrible. This convinced me that their food is not being kept in safe conditions. Their sushi rolls with "spicy tuna" or "spicy salmon" were chock full of tempura/panko flakes mixed with the fish, resulting in barely any actual tuna or salmon in the roll. Any rolls with tempura shrimp were soggy and lukewarm. Don't trust any videos you see online of this place because the actual rolls you get are 70% rice. This is the worst sushi experience I've ever had, mainly because it caused terrible indigestion from unsafe food handling on Kabuto's part. read more

Finally came to try this spot after driving by a hundred times . It was so tasty! AYCE for $36 is a pretty good deal especially with sushi and hibachi. Did I mention ice cream and Pepsi products are also included ?! Our waitress was very friendly and explained the menu very well, and I appreciated it a lot . I noticed she was the only one on the floor the night I went on a busy Saturday night! What a badass, she was very quick. The decorations were really nice and the restaurant was very clean. I went for the hibachi option, I don't remember the name of my drink, but it gave exactly what it was supposed to. I really enjoyed the chef's sense of humor and cooking. The appetizer soup didn't really have any flavor. I really liked the dressing that they put on the house salad, it was very refreshing. The place was huge and spacious. Very nice aesthetic. We have our server Maya who helped us throughout the process since it was our very first time eating there. She was an amazing server. Very friendly and very accommodating. She was very patient with all our requests and we received such great customer service. We were shown how to order through the qr code. Everything came quickly but some rolls came a bit later because it takes longer to make them. We also had one server who helped us serve our food and such. We had a wonderful time since we were celebrating 3 birthdays they gave them 3 wonderful ice cream with happy birthday on it. It was very special and the ladies sang to them. They also have hibachi menu with chef cooking in front of you. However, for some reason, when we are there our table is a bit sticky. I really enjoyed my experience here. I stopped by on a weekday and the hibachi area was full. My friend and I decided to go for the Ayce sushi option. For around $35 per person this is the best Ayce deal in the area. I loved the variety of sushi and sashimi options they offered. Some of the other highlighted Asian food items include the soup dumplings, Korean pancake, galbi, and ponzu scallops. The service here is great. When you arrive there is a QR code where you can order all the food through the link. The servers here brought our food out quickly. I've tried the hibachi years ago, and wasn't a huge fan, though I'm not a huge fan of any hibachi to be fair. I recently tried their all you can eat offerings and found it to be a great value and something I would return for. Service was great as food came out quickly after ordering. My only complaint would be the amount of dishes that are used. Our table was too crowded to eat as comfortably as I'd like, but they did the best they could to clear what they could. read more

Some rolls were not same as their pictures and all rolls tasted the same even though they were supposed to be different. Our go to and we seem to not be able to do anything else is to just go for their all you can eat sushi buffet. When most folks go to all you can eat sushi places all you have are the nigiri, never the sashimi. Kabuto has sashimi on blast!! And to top it of the buffet includes oysters on the half shell. What!!!! The daughter and the hubby easily can demolish a dozen each. I've seen the daughter down 2 dozen. easily. And these oysters are just phenomenally flavored with a slight spice, so that the taste of the sea is still there in all of it yummilicious goodness. Sushi rolls are also to die for, especially their specialty rolls - the Angry Dragon comes to mind. Altho, we haven't tried it yet their hibachi is also rockin! The place is always in full blast anytime of the day. Great for families especially since kids under 10 eat for free. As to the ambiance and service , it's also on point. Orders are quickly filled and the wait staff have always been very friendly. Decided to try out their AYCE menu for the sushi and hibachi after seeing a couple of posts about how great it is. For anyone wondering, the entrance is not the door facing Rockville Pike, it's actually around the building at the front of the private parking lot(which they validate). The AYCE menu doesn't have all their rolls but they have the basic ones down like spicy tuna. There's also the typical fried appetizers, hibachi, and dessert items. I really like how they have smaller portions for each order so you're able to order a variety before getting full. Sushi is pretty heavy on the rice and the raw fish was definitely subpar. Honestly, all the rolls tasted the same. Surprisingly the fried rice and cream cheese wontons were pretty good. Would avoid getting the sukiyaki udon and kaarage (which was super burnt!). For $35/pp, it's not a bad deal especially since their other items that are not sushi are pretty decent but definitely temper your expectations significantly since it's AYCE. read more

If you get the hibachi ask the chef for less soy sauce. Our chef squirted everything three times with soy sauce and everything was so salty that I couldn't stop drinking water. Also be aware of cross contamination. The same spatula that put raw chicken onto the griddle was also used for butter. I absolutely loved the all you can eat ordering system. Even though they only had two waitstaff for the whole restaurant, it worked relatively well. We had two tables of 6, so there were times when are AYCe order was mixed up but no harm no foul. I loved that ramune and yogurt drink were included. After seeing 2 of my favorite DMV food influencers mention that Kabuto has a new-ish all-you-can-eat option, my partner and I decided to finally come check it out for a little anniversary lunch, as we were especially excited to add a new sushi + hibachi spot to our roster. Our main takeaway was that the restaurant, while spacious and beautiful, doesn't seem quite prepared to handle the volume that comes with AYCE, so we may not opt for this until that gets sorted. -- We had to wait about 5 minutes just to get seated, which felt really strange because we arrived about half an hour after opening, and there were at most 10? parties seated in the restaurant -- I wish there were some more descriptions on the menu (they use the Chowbus POS for placing orders) because for things like the Signature Rolls, there was just a name and a photo. For someone like me, who doesn't get sushi a ton and usually sticks with what I like, I didn't know what was in most of the rolls so I avoided ordering them because I didn't want to waste and I didn't want to take up the time of the overstretched servers asking. This is definitely something to note for people who are trying to be particularly mindful of their food (sensitivities, allergies, etc.) because it's a bit of a mystery -- We waited a really long time for food to start coming out, and my partner compared the pace of how it came out to a drip -- 5 minutes after placing our order, soup would come out. Another 2 minutes later, some edamame. Maybe another 5 minutes would pass before hibachi vegetables would come out but not the other hibachi items we ordered. It took maybe another 10 minutes for sashimi to arrive, but then another 10-15 for sushi rolls, etc. -- Some items never came out, and I had to re-submit orders to get the ones I was most keen on making sure I tried, which felt risky given how long food was taking to come out -- I didn't want to order my soft-shell crab roll twice and then be full and have a second order come out and then pay for the "leftover" food -- When I asked if our food was still on its way or if we needed to resubmit (I'm used to things falling between the cracks for AYCE orders!), a server told us that the kitchen was slammed because everyone came at the same time but if my food wasn't out in 15 minutes I could resubmit. Everyone came at the same time because that was when the restaurant opened? And, again, most of my food took longer than 15 minutes to arrive, so I can't imagine it would have helped things for me to just re-order all of the items that took 20+ minutes to arrive, I didn't want to waste -- There were some dining details that were overlooked that I typically don't see. For example, we had to explicitly ask for wasabi and for dipping dishes for our sushi, and again this took a long time to come out. We had soup dumplings but no soup spoons or dipping sauce. I had seafood udon but no spoon for this either. -- The low point food-wise was that seafood udon. It was a chilly and rainy day so I was exciting for the comfort of a bowl of noodle soup, but the noodles were both mushy and chewy in texture, and everything tasted very watery while also too fishy. I had to let our server know that it tasted off and I wasn't comfortable finishing it All that being said, we did enjoy the food we got, and our servers were very kind to us, even though it did seem like there were not enough of them. We were seated at the back of the restaurant, which is where I'm assuming they were trying to seat AYCE diners so as to be closer to the kitchen? Because if not, it was kind of a strange choice to have us walk through the nearly empty rest of the large restaurant to sit in the very back. But we did enjoy our food and found ourselves ordering a few top-up rounds and then a couple of rounds of dessert. Also worth noting is that it was a bit cool in the restaurant, and my partner reported that the men's room was uncomfortably cold although I think the women's room was only a bit cooler than the rest of the restaurant. FYI They validate parking for the lot directly in front for up to 4 hours. We didn't know this, so we saw the ticketing system at the lot gate and opted to do the 2-hour free parking at the garages for Rockville Town Center instead. Next time, we will opt to park right in front of the restaurant, and we probably will also order a la carte for our next visit until they smooth out their logistics for AYCE. read more

I've been here before for the hibachi show -- standard Japanese fare of rice, protein, and veggies with egg-spinning and onion volcano theatricals -- but today we tried the all-you-can-eat sushi option for an early dinner on a weekday. Ordering on the digital menu was straightforward, and since it wasn't busy when we went, all of the food came out promptly. All of the sushi was great. The nigiri tasted fresh and there wasn't too much rice as some AYCE sushi places tend to do. The special rolls we ordered kind of all tasted the same, but they were still good. The appetizers and small plates were pretty standard for a Japanese restaurant. I like that the portions are small so that you're not forced to eat more than you want to when ordering one portion, and I love that mochi ice cream is included. Normally, I don't factor in anything besides the taste and quality of the food into a review, but in this case, I had a problem with the interior of the restaurant. We visited in the middle of July, and the dining area had no AC. I could tell because there was a noticeable difference in temperature between the bathrooms (where there was AC) and the dining area. We were really uncomfortable in the heat and it ultimately ruined the whole experience for us. By the end, I just really wanted to leave so we could go somewhere cooler. Service was very friendly and attentive and the interior is quite fancy and nicely decorated. Can notice very clearly that most of the food were frozen and unfrozen, but they probably put it in the microwave for too short time so that some part of it was still cold. Fried food is greasy, and not hot enough, or I should say not microwaved enough probably. No one told be that seafood udon contains egg, that I am allergic to. Ok, they told me they were going to change it. But, you know what? After I literally thought they changed it and ate half the noodle, I found pieces of egg in the soup!!!!!!!!!!!They literally just picked the egg out instead of changing anything. Food allergy is a big thing...bro. The temperature in the restaurant is cold as hell. I mean it's technically -3 degrees celsius outside today, there is a snow storm alert in DC, Maryland and Virginia, and this restaurant... does not have heating on! Food review: Soup- tasteless Salad- dressing good, tomato and lettuce old Crab Rangoon: fried too crisp and lack of filling Rice, full of oil and tasteless Noodles: gummy and tasteless Salmon: first raw then over cooked. This is my go to AYCE sushi spot. I come here often with friends and family. The fish is very fresh and hibachi items are delicious and good palate cleansers. Highly recommend their miso soup, spicy tuna & salmon rolls, and eel nigiri. Service could be better though. Many times I have had to remind the waiters for orders I have placed, and some waiters are quick to bring the food and leave without picking up empty plates/bowls. The atmosphere is great however, I usually dine in at 3-5 and it isn't overcrowded. Also, the place is very clean and never dirty from past costumers. read more

Definitely the best hibachi I've had in the DMV. Our chef was fun, passionate and put on a great show. The waitress was attentive even though the place was very crowded. Our food was delicious and reasonably priced considering the massive portion sizes. The hibachi meal comes with soup, salad, two shrimp appetizer, noodles, fried rice, and chicken. I have a pretty hefty appetite but there was enough for me to have leftovers for the following nights dinner. The restaurant was kept very clean and the decor was beautiful. There's lots of parking in the area. You get 2 hours for free otherwise you have to pay. That being said, Kabuto actually validates parking which is an added bonus. Can't wait to go back! read more

We had a really disappointing experience here. We were seated during happy hour and ordered two drinks and two appetizers. After that, our server completely disappeared. She did not come back to our table for over an hour. During that time, we were unable to order food and ultimately missed out on the rest of happy hour pricing because she never returned. We finally had to ask another server just to place a food order, which should never be necessary. When my entrée arrived, the hibachi scallops tasted rotten and were completely inedible. Between the lack of service, missing happy hour, and unsafe tasting food, this was an extremely frustrating visit. I've never felt the need to write a review. My friends and I aren't Karen's and are usually very respectful towards staff. This review is for management. My friends and I came last night cause we were excited about the AYCE. This was one of the worst restaurant experiences any of us have had. We put an order in for sushi and did not receive any of the sushi for about 45mins. We were sitting there eating noodles the whole time since this was one of the few items they were able to bring out quickly. Almost another 20 minutes have passed (over an hour) and have not received 90% of our sushi order. We also tried ordering more hibachi steak and ice cream at the end but didn't receive anything. I believe it was past our 1.5 hour time limit but we were waiting for our sushi the whole time. We left pretty hungry. 35.99 for this btw. Absolutely atrocious service. Everyone in our section also looked pretty frustrated. This business needs more chefs in the back. If the servers are blaming everything on the chefs, then you need more sushi chefs for such a large establishment. Been to some really great AYCE sushi spots in the DMV (mostly in VA). This review is mainly for the service of the restaurant. This was our first time dining here. We had a reservation for a party of 10. We got sat and found gum under the table. Our server explained how the AYCE menu worked and how to order through our phones using the QR code provided at the table. We were told of the time limit as well - which was about 90 minutes. We ordered a big variety of dishes. Our server did the best they could but they were the ONLY server with a couple of food runners. There were also what appeared to be only two chefs making the sushi. I received a small salad after 30 minutes into ordering and then about an hour, the sushi dishes slowly started to come. There seemed to be confusion in the kitchen as there were several items that were ordered that were NEVER received - even after checking in with our server 3 times to make sure the other items went through the system. We were told they were coming. Everything came out VERY slow and because the ordering system wasn't "going through," again, there were SEVERAL items that were not received. After almost 2 hours into dining, the hostess approached our table and told us that we were just about out of time. We had just asked our server for the check prior. We explained to her that we were well aware of the time limit but we only received a salad after 30 minutes into dining. We also shared additional feedback saying that if there is a time limit, then the food should come out faster. If the food doesn't come out at a reasonable time, then it is not our fault that the timer kept going. The hostess simply replied with "I'm just the messenger but I can try to tell the kitchen to pick up the pace." Even though we were done and asked for the check already. This seems like a communication issue with the front house staff. The concept of this restaurant seems great but a lot of logistics need to be figured out first. Please do not tell us we have a time limit if you are unable to make and send the food at a reasonable pace. Came here to celebrate my daughter's 13th bday a few weeks ago, so this is a combo review; we had a table for just my husband and I, and a separate hibachi table for my daughter and her friends (party of 5). The waitress for our individual table was great. I thought the waitress for my daughter's table was good too. However, after we left the restaurant, I heard that when one of the girls ordered octopus, she asked her, "are you sure?", "do you know what you're ordering?", another girl ordered tempura shrimp and when she brought to the attention of the waitress that she didn't get it, the waitress asked her if she was sure about that! Then after not believing her, and checking, she asked if she still wanted it. The waitress was told the item was no longer wanted and she said it would be removed from the bill. Needless to say, it wasn't, we paid for the tempura shrimp because it was still on the bill and I didn't know about this until we left the restaurant. Not cool! The girls enjoyed having dinner by themselves, but unfortunately, I didn't like that even singing Happy Birthday seemed to be an issue, the chef had the birthday girl confused with her friend and questioning the girls on their orders (after I specifically told the waitress that they could order whatever they wanted) was not okay. read more

Hands down the worst restaurant experience I've ever had. The staff here isn't just unprofessional--they're completely incompetent. The three hostesses and the manager were all glued to their phones at the front entrance, ignoring customers and acting like doing their actual job was an inconvenience. We arrived at 7:00 PM for an 8:00 PM hibachi reservation. While waiting, we sat for some sushi. Instead of doing something simple--like asking us--they decided on their own that we "no longer wanted our reservation" and gave our seats away at 7:49 PM. Before our reservation time. Before we said a single word. Before ANYTHING. When I confronted the manager, she shrugged it off and said the staff assumed we didn't want hibachi. Assumed?! That's their excuse for screwing up a reservation? No accountability, no solution, no professionalism--just blank stares and excuses. And it wasn't just us. I watched another group right in front of me go through the exact same thing. They had a reservation, showed up, and still had their seats handed to someone else. This place is a joke. If you want your reservation respected, if you want basic customer service, if you want staff who actually care--do NOT come here. The family was in the mood for a hibachi show and Kabuto didn't disappoint. We booked a table for 6 and arrived early and sat at the bar till our grillside table was ready. Kids cannot sit at the bar so only the 21 and over sat there and had drinks. The snow sake was nice to try and they have Sapporo and Asahi beers (Kirin was out of stock) plus other wine and beer choices. The welcome was very friendly. We closed the bar tab and shifted to the Hibachi grill. Excellent showmanship, the chef even sang a Hindi song for us. Everyone enjoyed the friendly games of catching the food from your mouth. The thrill of seeing everything cooked in front of you was enjoyable. We would have preferred a tad bit more salt and spice in the food. Kabuto is one of my favorite spots for happy hour. As a lover of sushi, the options of having some rolls and apps at a discount price WITH drinks are a definite go-to. The food is always delicious accompanied by friendly service. I like mixing up the sushi rolls and appetizers because they're all so delicious. If I lived closer, I'd be here every happy hour. I've also been here outside of happy hour and I still love the place. My family and I had a hefty dinner and the final receipt was surprising because we expected it to be more expensive. The portion sizes are generous and the food is tasty- what more could you ask for? Service was also great. I'll have to try the hibachi side one day! Parking is free with validation and directly outside Kabuto's doors so you don't have to park in one of the town center garages. read more

After the instagram posts about this place, my wife and I came with such high hopes for the AYCE with its variety of sushi and hot appetizer options. To start with the positives, the pork soup dumplings were surprisingly big and delicious for a restaurant that doesn't specialize in dim sum. Rolls with made with an excellent fish and avocado to rice ratio. Kitchen is definitely generous with the portion size of the fish they give you the freshness of the raw fish options was top notch and good value for $35.99 per person. Now for the negatives... I made an OpenTable reservation for 7:00PM and I'll admit that we were 15 minutes late, but the main dining room appeared only half full and it still took about 20 minutes to be seated followed by another 20 minutes for a server to come to us. Mia was very friendly when she arrived, but we were so hungry from waiting that we already started ordering the the QR code menu option on the table before she arrived. There seem to be staffing issues contributing to longer wait times that need to be addressed. The QR code menu option was pretty simple to use, but there were a lot of technical issues that Kabuto needs to fix because they didn't receive half the orders we submitted. Furthermore, we as the customer had to be proactive in constantly calling a staff member over to see if the kitchen received our order. Since they charge a fee for food waste, I didn't want to keep ordering only to receive multiples of the same order that we couldn't finish. Even something as simple at raw oysters with ponzu sauce had to be ordered 3 times before the kitchen finally received the order. And when a server came to warn us at 8:50PM that the kitchen was closing at 9:00PM, I reminded them about all of the specialty rolls we had not received only to find out that the sushi kitchen was already closed. That would've been a helpful warning to receive because we ordered 4 specialty rolls and didn't receive a single one. And after the 8:50PM warning, we immediately put in our dessert orders but after 20 minutes, we still ended up having to tell our order directly to Mia who finally brought them out. If the QR code menu is so frustrating to use, they should really get rid of it and let us order directly from the waitress. The food we did receive was delicious, but after the slow service and repeated issues with the QR code menu, we probably will not return. read more
