I ordered here for the first time over the weekend and overall I was pretty pleased. I was craving sushi but appetite wasn't the best, so I placed a super simple order. I ordered the Bethesda Maki roll (real crabmeat, masago and avocado topped with seared salmon and spicy powder.) The roll was pretty large and was enough to fill me up, but it was drizzled with a lot of sauce which was not detailed in the description. I liked the flavors of the ingredients in the roll and the spicy powder was a nice touch, but the heavy spicy mayo and eel sauce kind of dominated the experience for me. Overall, I could tell the fish was good quality so I would be open to ordering again. Next time, I may just add in a request to for no sauce or check pics on Yelp to see which rolls are not heavily drizzled. read more

I'm consistently impressed with this unassuming spot for sashimi, nigiri, and sushi. Everything I had was incredibly fresh and they do not skimp on the cuts. A Staple in Our Love Story -- and Our Stomachs! Sushi Toro has become one of our all-time favorite spots. Jason took me here on our very first date, and it was an instant hit. Ever since, we've been coming back as often as we can -- and every time, it's just as wonderful. Last night, after a long, exhausting day at work, we headed over again. We were seated right away and chose to sit at the bar. The staff kindly switched the TV to the basketball game for us, which was such a thoughtful touch! We started off with a round of strawberry soju (so refreshing!) and the spicy hangover kimchi ramen as an appetizer -- and WOW. That ramen was out of this world. I genuinely had a moment where I wished I could rewind time just to enjoy it all over again. For drinks, I sipped on a glass of Sauvignon Blanc, while Jason had a beer. We shared two sushi rolls that were incredibly fresh and flavorful -- we honestly couldn't get enough. We also ordered the vegetable fried rice, which rounded out the meal perfectly. We came for lunch - sushi was really good, service was very friendly, and they have great lunch specials! Space is pretty small - you'll want to avoid peak times. Lunch specials include $9.99 for 2 rolls, $12.99 for 3 rolls. Miso soup is an extra $1.99. Tried several different sushi - eel & avocado, spicy crunch tuna, spicy tuna, salmon, California roll, and 4 sashimi (salmon, tuna, white tuna ... that white tuna was divine!). All very good! I ordered the White Flint roll and Green Monster roll. The White Flint roll was tasty, not spicy at all even though the yellowtail was listed as spicy. The green monster was pretty bland. The spicy tuna inside the roll didn't have much kick. The seaweed salad was ok. I would come back to try other items, particularly a different roll and their poke bowl. read more

My absolute favorite sushi place in town!! Everything we order is always absolutely delicious, with fresh ingredients and delicate presentation. The lunch special from 11AM-3PM is a very good deal. A review of the dishes from our most to least favorite: -Fatty salmon nigiri: the salmon just MELTS on your tongue, and the flavor is smoky - a must try! -Three roll lunch special (three hand rolls): we ordered the salmon roll, eel & avocado, and the philadelphia fresh salmon, and all three were a good size with flavors that complement each other well -Volcano maki: the crunchy flakes balance the shrimp tempura and crabmeat wonderfully -Flying dragon: the plating was beautiful, and the eel was warm when we ate it -Spicy crunchy scallop: the scallop was so fresh, each bite was delectable The interior is simple and understated, with rather limited seating but that never seems to be too crowded. I believe this sushi place near the old White Flint mall took over a Chinese restaurant. In fact, I think these owners and workers are Chinese. That's fine, and the sushi quality is fine. I came for a late afternoon lunch on a Wednesday. Good sushi takes time and I was fine waiting for it. I have issues with the space. The wall across from the sushi bar is black, and there's only 5 tables in the place to begin with. Decent lunch prices but not a place to dawdle. Contrast this with the Greek place next door, with blinding diner-like lighting. read more

Had the most wonderful fathers day lunch at sushi sono. We had never been here before so we worried about how busy it would be we came around 12 on a Sunday and got seated right away. There aren't that many tables so if it does get busy be prepared to wait! We got the steamed chicken dumplings, sushi burrito, sashimi assortment, crunchy spicy tuna roll and 2 orders of the fatty salmon nigiri. Everything was so delicious and the cut of the fish was so thick considering the price! My absolute favorite was the fatty salmon nigiri. We stopped by here the day after Christmas. The dining area is small, but we were the only ones dining in. The space is cozy and nicely decorated. Many people coming and going for take-out. My wife is Japanese and she loved her sushi. I don't eat enough sushi to be able to really compare. I enjoyed what I had and it was a great experience for an early dinner. To keep it short and simple, the place has a small yet clean ambiance, great service, and one of the best salmon combos I've had. The salmon combo included a seared salmon belly. You read it right - those are usually premium a la carte items, but this is the only place, as far as I know, that includes it as a combo. Besides that, the regular salmon nigiri and sashimi were exquisite. I'm a big salmon-lover so any place with a spectacular salmon combo wins my vote. Besides the salmon combo, I think the other items are pretty average but haven't been able to try the full array for a comprehensive opinion. The 5 star review goes to the salmon combo alone. Cons worth mentioning are no soup/salad, limited seating, and extra cost for sushi rice when ordering the sashimi entrees. You know I will be back here just for the salmon combo again. read more

There's plenty of free parking but the restaurant itself is somewhat small, but since we came for an early dinner we were able to get seated immediately. The menu had a diverse array of items including sashimi, sushi, ramen, sushi burritos, and poke bowls and they had reasonable prices for dinner. My fiance and I ordered the salmon combo, sashimi assortment, salmon mango roll, and eel avocado roll. The salmon combo had very fresh fish with a delicious melt-in-your-mouth seared salmon belly nigiri, but the sashimi assortment was a bit more hit or miss with some of the fish being delicious but some being a little icy. It was also odd that the sashimi assortment didn't come with rice and you have to pay an extra $2.50 for rice on the side, but at least the rice was pretty good sushi rice. And another small but notable thing, the soy sauce was incredibly salty! I usually like to eat my sashimi with soy sauce and wasabi, but this time I preferred to eat the sashimi by itself. Overall, an enjoyable experience but there are some things that can be improved. read more

Last time I came I got the ponzu salmon and butterfly roll. The butterfly roll was a bit hard to eat, but it was so beautiful and delicious and it wasn't a problem.
