Yiku is a good casual sushi if you want a quick fix that has a little more than yoyogi. They don't have any extravagant rolls but they do have specialty rolls. ***DO NOT ORDER WHITE TUNA*** My fiancé ordered the D7 White Tuna Set Entree. He said he was feeling off all morning. He stood up and oily diarrhea exploded so violently through the back of his shorts that it ended up staining our living room carpet. He had to use dish soap to clean his explosive oil diarrhea from his body and our carpet. I looked up what he ordered and this "white fish" is actually Escolar which is illegal in Japan and Italy for being so poisonous. This fish has undigestible wax esters that causes explosive oil diarrhea. It would have been nice if the restaurant provided a warning about the toxicity of the fish before all the oil stains on our carpet. I hope we can still get our deposit back on the apartment. The special rolls are also quite delicious. The soft shelled crab tempura is personally one of my favorite appetizers and is great for sharing with one other person! They've recently set up their own website to order through, and these prices on the website are slightly cheaper. I love their sushi. This is my go-to backup when Yoyogi is closed. Their sushi is very flavorful and the sauce they add on top makes the sushi a lot more tastier. The shrimp tempura still has a good crunch even with the sauce and they add a good amount of tempura on each roll. All I wish was that this place wasn't so hidden and kept away from the main road. Gyoza seemed store bought and pre frozen... no strong brown bottom was achieved on the sear. The insides were muddled. The sauce was not flavorful. Takoyaki we're ok, but just ok. Miso soup flavor was muddled. I didn't finish it. California Rolls: Surimi inside lacked seasoning (mayo), the surimi they used was not too my liking. Overall, a bigger roll, but the flavor just paled in comparison to anyone of my favorite sushi places in the area (Sushi House, Yuraku, Maki Maki, Maki Bar ). Overall, I spent 30 dollars about on food, and ended up throwing a portion of it away and really forcing myself to eat the rest cause I was hungry. The lunch special menu included some more unique items like the mango + avocado Hawaii roll. No complaints--fish tasted decently fresh, sweet potato tempura was very crispy (and the sweet sauce on top was flavorful). The server brought out a ton of ginger when we asked, and I never had to flag down anyone for water. Yiku sushi used to be my go to localsushi spot, but unfortunately I have noticed a decrease in quality. Sushi tasted very bland and felt like i was eating mostly rice. My rating is soley based on taste alone. -shrimp tempura roll: actual shrimp was very tiny, felt like I was eating mostly batter and rice. The batter did not taste seasoned and there was very little sauce so it was like just eating plain shrimp with white rice. -spicy salmon roll: did not taste like salmon AT ALL, more like flavorless fish. Our group ordered a sashimi boat (36 pieces of assorted sashimi) for $43 and a Sushi combo (6 nigiris and 6 piece California roll) for $14, so our total before tax was $57 (14.25 plus tax and tip per person for four of us), which we thought was reasonable for some decent quality sushi! We each had a good amount to eat and got full fast. This is also reasonable to eat if you want to eat more protein while being on a lower calorie diet. The beef teriyaki dinner was quite filling with lots of delicious beef, broccoli, rice, and either miso soup or salad. My nieces enjoyed it as much as I did. I ordered an shrimp tempura (not with any veggies) and was perfectly fried and quite large. Asked for 8 pieces and was gone pretty fast :) The avocado and California rolls were fresh and quite large compare to other places. The chirasi sushi plate was quite large too and my wife enjoyed it very much. This place is a great new sushi spot! Fresh sushi, good customer service, and clean. We ordered a few different things and we're very pleased with almost all of it. Ordered the sashimi appetizer, seaweed salad, chirashi, shrimp tempura udon noodles, and a few maki rolls. The sashimi appetizer and chirashi were amazing. I could definitely come here for lunch, order a chirashi and be happy. The sashimi was fresh and delicious. The Udon noodle soup had a perfectly flavored broth, just yum! The maki rolls that we ordered were the Mount Fuji roll, OMG maki, red dragon and green dragon. They were all great but the OMG maki and Mount Fuji maki were a little heavy. They both had the creamier mayo flavor and once I ate one of each, I was stuffed. They were just too heavy for sushi. Customer service was good but not great. What do you expect when you have one woman running around during Sunday dinner by herself serving, picking up the phone and trying to take everyone their food the second it's ready? She was nice and I appreciated her trying to be so on top of everything. But they need another waiter/waitress. Maybe it's because they just opened recently. I'll definitely be a returning customer. So I came here with the sole purpose of trying their sashimi boat and pleasing my wife. Needless to say, I did both superbly well. The order was a ramen noodle and 36 pieces of sashimi. There were about 6 or 7 different selections of sashimi, and the cuts were wonderful! Let me break it down for y'all: Ramen noodle soup: 4.5/5 To be totally honest, it's really competitive here in the Rockville-Gaithersburg area when it comes to noodles. The Chinese have their "guoqiaomixian", spicy noodles, and zhajiang noodles. The Japanese got their fair share of great ramens, and the Vietnamese are meticulous with their pho. Of course Yiku Sushi's noodles aren't the best in the area, but it was very good. It's price and presentation brings something that is not new, but has enough substance to challenge its competitors. Sashimi boat: 5/5 Yes! Obviously I didn't go to a sushi place to try their noodles... I went for their specialty, duh! I'll keep this short, the taste was amazing! Presentation was great! And the cuts were thick enough to warrant more visits and more boat orders! Overall: it was a great first experience for both my wife and I.
