Oishii Ramen
Samuel F.

I love the soup base of my Oishii ramen, but the pork belly had a slightly weird taste and not as good as the pork bun. Id come back to try the tonkotsu though

This place is a hidden gem in Bethesda! The ramen itself was fantastic, but the star of the show is 100% the chashu hands down the best I've had in the entire DMV. Perfectly tender, melt-in-your-mouth pork with just the right amount of char and flavor that takes the whole bowl to another level. The broth was rich and balanced, noodles cooked just right, and the service was friendly and quick. It's rare I leave a ramen spot already planning my next visit, but this one is officially on my regular rotation. If you're a ramen fan, you owe it to yourself to try this spot and definitely don't skip the chashu! I did a customizable bowl with the creamy chicken broth!

Yess please!! Ive recently been turned onto Ramen..and I know Im very late to this delicious party, but Oishii Ramen Cafe did it absolutely right! I got the volcano ramen which came with scallops, lobster, shrimp, and soft shell crab. The base sauce was flavorful and had a nice spicy kick. Our ramen was wonderfully packaged and served hot and ready. And their website is very easy to navigate. Highly recommend!

I would eat here everyday if I could. I love Ramen. It's one of my favorite comfort foods even in the summer. The space is intimate and the service is great. The food comes out fast and I can really appreciate that when I'm starving! Check it out, you won't be disappointed.

The ramen here was really good. I got the Oishii ramen and it came with a lot of tasty meaty toppings. The noodles were good and so was the broth. I thought the boba was good too. I got the Thai iced tea boba and the boba was sweet and easy to chew. The seating is limited, so it may be difficult to find a seat depending on how busy it is.

This place was absolutely delicious! The broth had such a rich, deep flavor, and the noodles were cooked perfectly. While I could tell the bamboo shoots came from a can due to their smell, the ramen (especially the broth) was incredibly satisfying on a cold day. I'll definitely be coming back! Don't skip the bubble tea for dessert, it's so good! It can be a bit too sweet, so I recommend getting 70% sugar instead of 100%. I tried the Tsunami (Thai tea with cheese foam), and it was amazing.

Vegetable Ramen

I ordered the Vegetable Ramen for pickup and was underwhelmed by this meal. I wonder if it would have been a better experience dining in. The order was ready within 10 minutes of placing it. Service was speedy and great. The ramen was packaged well with all the toppings in a separate container on top of the broth. Nothing was soggy, and the broth was plenty warm when I was ready to eat it. The vegetable ramen comes with vegan noodles which were not great. I tried letting the noodles sit in the broth for a while and the noodles would not pick up any of the broth. Every bite of noodle just tasted like a plain noodle which was disappointing. I wonder if the nonvegan noodles do a better job integrating with the broth. The carrots in my ramen were literally small carrot sticks. They were not cooked at all. They were hard and definitely the worst part of this meal. The tofu was also a low point as it looked like it was just fresh out of a tofu package. It wasn't baked or handled in any special way. It was just plain tofu. At $16 for the ramen bowl I think the toppings could use some improvement. My favorite part of the ramen was the broth. It was very flavorful. I think this ramen has hope, however, the noodles need improvement and I wish the toppings were cooked instead of served raw.

The Taruntula

The food was so good. I am definitely coming back here again. The resturant is a bit small but good AC and clean place. I ordered the Taruntula. I hope I can come back and get it before the soft shelled crabs are out of season. The menu lists all the broths which is great. Love it!

Thai Milk Tea & House Black Milk Tea

TLDR: A little pricey but worth it! Friend and I stopped in for lunch about 45 minutes before they closed. Just enough time to order, slurp down our meal and drinks. They were nice about it, let us know closing is at 3. We didn't feel rushed and we finished right on time. Customers after us had to order for carry-out. The cafe is in Bethesda, right by the Metro. There is street parking or a garage near by. The interior is cute and fun. One bathroom to the whole place. Limited seating with seats by the window and counter or some high tops. I ordered the Tarantula (fried soft shell crab & seafood in a lobster broth) and the House Milk Tea with 70%. This broth was so deep in flavor. It was reminiscent of a Laksa - creamy, spicy, full of lemongrass tones. The Milk Tea was decent, complimented the ramen, but I'll try another drink next time. The crab was fried well, and the shrimp and squid was not overcooked. Noodles were just the right chewy texture but there was quite an abundance of it in my bowl (yes, I will complain that there were too many noodles in my ramen). My friend ordered the Oishii and enjoyed it thoroughly. His bowl had a lot of meat and toppings. He just came back from Tokyo and commented that the broth is pretty good but of course not as good as the one in Japan (*insert eye roll here*). Then please tell me why did you finish the whole bowl and left no crumbs. We also ordered the steamed pork gyoza. Standard appetizer that I assume is just steamed fresh from a frozen bag?

Ramen just good as pictured

Cozy mom and pop ramen shop with authentic fresh ramen. The restaurant is a tight space with only a few high-top bench style tables and elbow rubbing stool seating along the windows. Only~ dozen or so so fit inside the restaurant (reminds me of NYC!), definitely not family-friendly with space heaters on the floor. I appreciate that 2 types of vegetarian ramen (Veggie and Mushroom) was offered and glad I got the Veggie Ramen. While it was appetizing and just as pictured, the broth was a bit bland with soggy veggie noodles and a heap of veggies - tofu, corn, carrots, scallions, green cabbage, kikurage wood-ear mushrooms, and bamboo shoots. It felt like there was something missing. There was no kick. I slurped down the broth and devoured the veggies and left behind a heap of noodles. The bowls are quite wide with a small base, making it easy to spill. My hubby sadly spilled his ramen and the service was great and quickly made him another ramen. The local neighborhood ramen shop is a nice new addition to the area and opened up 3 years ago during the pandemic at the end of 2021.

My favorite ramen in the area! I love the spicy tonkotsu and shrimp shumai. The taruntula and bao buns are also excellent. The restaurant is chic. Service is fast in person and it keeps well over delivery.

This was a great tucked away, hidden Ramen spot. The prices are right and the broth was delicious. They offer a Ramen bar so if you're eating solo, it's easy to sit by the window. The service was extremely fast and checked frequently to make sure I was OK, the ramen was absolutely delicious and very hearty if you have their signature bowl. Oishii Bowl full of meat!!!! if I had to critique anything, I would only say that the broth could be a little hotter. But since I didn't have to wait for it to cool down, I was able to devour it within minutes.

Ramen was very good. Spicy Tonkotsu. Spicy level was accurate with a 3. Not to weak and not to spicy. The like how they severed the water in this jars. Had a Mango yogurt drink with a 50% sugar. Way too sweet and very expensive. Service was great. Will visit again.

Spicy Tonkotsu. I wish I would have tried the original first

My companion liked his vegan tan tan ramen. I got the classic menri dashi shoyu ramen. Hard to say what the star ingredient was, both the broth and noodles were excellent. The noodles were hand made and had a great texture and chew. The broth was rich with a depth of dashi chicken and kombu. Taste was clean. Tender thinly sliced chashu, seaweed and greens rounded out the bowl.

I admit, I pulled into the first plaza I saw that was easy to get in to find something, and wound up at Akira. I've had their ramen before at other locations, but this was my first time at this one. The place had a little bit of a crowd in it, but I was quickly seated. The Rockville location here is perhaps not the most beautifully decorated, with some rather odd ornamentation (like an actual, possibly functional, payphone? ), but it's still a nicer spot than a typical lunch counter. Okay, confession. I have no idea what the different ramens are. I always just kind of pick one randomly, and I've never met a ramen I didn't like. This time, I got the tantanmem. Of course, picking randomly, I picked one that used ivory soap as a topping -- or as you fancy people call it, "cilantro." Realising my error, I quickly caught the waitress and asked for it to be omitted. Akira actually skipped it! YAY! Thank you. I cannot tell you the number of times that request gets met with a "no problem" only for my dish to be overflowing with soap bubbles later. The broth had a little bit of a spice to it, not much, which was delightful. Everything was well cooked, and it really hit my hangry spot. My only small complaint was that my egg was still cold -- but, also, the bowl was set in front of me, and I simply hit the "ON" button and vacuumed it in.

The restaurant describes their dishes as "Sapporo Style," meaning that they could suffice as a main dish and are cooked in a wok, seasoned with roasted garlic and onion. Both of our dishes were from the Specials Menu: his the Miso Tan-Tan Men (with sesame paste, hot sesame oil, bok choy, scallion, ground pork) and mine the Hot & Sour Ramen (with sliced pork, egg drop, tofu, assorted veg and sesame oil). The bowls were entrée size and beautifully prepared. The ramens didn't seem fresh cut noodles, like you may find elsewhere, but the delicious full-bodied soups more than made up for that. Some might find the prices high for considering what you get, especially for me compared to NYC similar hole-in-the-walls, yet when in the area I'd recommend Ren's Ramen. It was totally enjoyable and I'd go back excited to also explore other items on their menu.

Decided to visit at around 5 and the restaurant was almost empty so my table got all the attention. The pork belly bun ($5) was very good. Small but really enjoyed it. Also, the home made gyoza ($7.50) was tasty too! Piping hot! Decided to go for the Sapporo style miso ramen ($17) and loved the broth and noodles. I would say the broth is a bit salty but I enjoyed it. During my time there one person came for pick up and when I left, the restaurant remained empty. It was a weekday so I hope it gets busier then. The only con is the parking. Very limited with only a few spots for all the shops.

It was really popular that evening, so the three of got squished at the table meant for two, but we didn't mind. We ordered pretty quickly, but with how busy it was, it took a bit for the food to come out CHILEAN SEA BASS - 37 As I scanned through, my eyes immediately fell on the miso sea bass. Despite the price point, I knew I had to go for it because sea bass is hard to find around here. This set came with rice, house salad, miso soup, and cold tofu. The sides were pretty standard -- no compliments, but no complaints either. On the other hand, the sea bass was wonderful. Super creamy and soft, with a strong miso sweetness that packed so much umami upon each bite. I would definitely splurge on this set just for the sea bass. My friend got the ramen and didn't love it, so I'll probably avoid that during future visits. The katsu curry that the table next to us ordered looked and smelled amazing.
