Recently went to Fuji Japan since most restaurants in the area were closed and my parents and I were craving some type of Asian cuisine. Food is average, but decent given the price. It's a casual restaurant so when ordering you go up to the counter and pay for your food. If you decide to dine-in they'll serve you. Service is fairly quick though so no complaints about that. I had tried their boba which was not the best but not the worst. I don't think I would get it again in comparison to actually boba stores. It's definitely not tea based but I'm just glad it wasn't overly sweet. The tapioca tasted pretty good though! I recommend their miso soup but their salad and tempura you can skip out on. read more

I stopped by to grab a friend some lunch and then decided to get food for myself. My experience was phenomenal. I was greeted and my order was taken in a timely manner. I was able to see my food get cooked. Nothing was frozen and the food was fresh. I ordered the chicken hibachi with fried rice. I didn't get a chance to take a photo of my friends food but I got the steak hibachi with noodles. They included yum yum sauce with the orders, which I was not expecting. Most places don't include it and charge extra so I was very happy. This is the best hibachi I've had in a long time. I've shared this place with friends and family; it's a must try! I was craving hibachi and did not want to sit in a restaurant so decided to try Fuji Japan after one researching. I am glad I tried it, it was very good. I ordered the chicken and steak hibachi with fried rice and vegetables. It came with yum yum sauce. The chicken was delicious and the steak was pretty good as well, it was just a bit dry. I ordered online and picked it up, i had no issues with the service, it was ready within 15-20 minutes. The restaurant is clean and easy to find, literally in the layhill shopping center. Very convenient if you're craving hibachi and don't want to experience sitting at the restaurant were they cook it in front of you. Oh and the steak and cheese spring rolls were pretty good as well! This place is not as great as it used to be from our last visit over 2 years ago. The chicken teriyaki bento box for $11.95 was large with plenty of items in it, but the chicken was hard and stringy. We also had the Alaska Roll sushi (with salmon, avocado, and cucumber) for $7.25, which only had 6 small pieces. This is pretty expensive and not worth ordering. For me, Fuji Japan isn't quite authentic Japanese restaurant. it's kinda fast food in Japanese version. Mostly, their menu have Sushi and Hibachi. (No Ramen/Udon noodle or Donburi/Curry rice bowl) I never have Sushi yet, so I can't say anything about that but I can say they have many choices of Sushi for you. I only had Bento box and Hibachi here. I think they all were good one as standard. They might not really perfect but it is enough to enjoy the food. As for ambient and service are okay. There are some dining-in seats but decorative inside is not really feel like Japanese atmosphere. Anyway, overall it is still a good place to get some taste of Japanese food if you aren't overthinking of details. read more

This was a pleasant surprise, cause some places make their rice too dry or too mushy... and like little bear, it was just right. Sorry, I've been reading Goldilocks and the Three Bears to my daughter and I've been comparing everything with her with a middle ground mentality. One complaint was that the sushi was falling apart and not wrapped as tight but the taste was still pretty good... overall... I'll definitely be coming back again. read more

My husband and I ordered carry out. Unfortunately, our dissatification prompted me to write this review. I will start with a positive in that the food servings are large. The fried oysters were pretty tasty but the breading was very thick. Our dissatisfaction was because the chicken, rice and noodles seemed to have been recycled from an earlier cook, hopefully not from yesterday. Some pieces of the chicken were very hard and inedible. My husband's steak was overcooked. He asked for medium but it was well done. This is our first time trying this restaurant but we will not return. read more

For both orders, I went with the 3 roll lunch combo where one can choose three rolls for about $18. The combo is great because there is a huge selection (about 15) of various rolls. The food arrived to my apartment within 45 minutes of ordering through Grubhub. Although the 3 roll lunch combo is my main go-to option, I wish the restaurant offered a non-roll sushi lunch special. read more

SO happy this place opened up near where I live (literally 5 minutes away). The food was cooked pretty quickly so I didn't have to wait long, and the ingredients were very fresh! We got the spicy tuna roll, salmon skin roll, and California roll. I LOVE how there's not a lot of rice and a lot of filling. Rolled so tight and perfectly. The hibachi scallops were sooo good. I ordered the Hibachi chicken & Shrimp lunch with extra chicken and veggies (was not given extra of either) and the spring rolls. Chicken wasn't consistent and didn't taste fresh. The fried rice was sweet as it they put sugar in it. The veggies were good, unfortunately the shrimp was not cleaned, some don't mind but $25 for lunch is way too much for that. Love this place and their sushi lunch roll specials. Relatively large rolls with a good rice to fish ratio (very little rice, lots of fish). Very fresh salmon. My go-to are the yellowtail avocado, salmon avocado, and spicy salmon crunchy rolls. All the spicy fish rolls come with tempura crunch. I like that you can get yellowtail and avocado rolls here, many places only offer it with cucumber or scallions. Plus this place has awesome groupons. They unfortunately charge you $1 to order online and no longer give you free eggrolls for exceeding a certain amount online. But still with groupons and even their normal lunch special price, it's great! I'd say probably not worth it at dinner and their bento boxes here aren't that great. But the rolls are definitely worth it at lunch time!!! We are now regulars. read more

The staff were warm and kind. The speaker at the kiosk helped to hear what staff said on top of the cooking sound in the background. The classic milk bubble tea had an interesting lid to prevent spilling. The chicken teriyaki was tasty with many vegetables. There are no sushi restaurants near here, so I was happy to try it. The food is adequate, nothing special. They use cheap soy sauce and ultra thick ginger but... Two warnings: 1. If you pickup your order,, they charge you an additional $1.00 "convenience" charge. I guess it is really hard to put the order into bags. MORE IMPORTANTLY 2. DO NOT PUT THE TIP ON A CREDIT CARD! If you do, the management keeps it!!! The cashier told me. If you want to tip the person who actually does the work, bring cash and put it in the jar marked "SUSHI", not the obvious tip jar next to the cash register. Staff doesn't get that either. Bottom Line: for mediocre sushi offered by a restaurant that keeps the server's and sushi chef's tips, this is your place! I saw this place on Groupon and came here last Sunday with my fiancé and best friend after we ran errands. To drink, we had Mango and Green Tea Bubble Teas which were large and yummy. For our appetizers we had Steak Cheese Spring Rolls and Miso Soup. The Steak Cheese Spring Rolls were unique and the Miso Soup was large and excellent. The sushi was delicious, not the very best we've had, but really good. We got both the Diamond Roll and Christmas Rolls. Our main entrees were all Salmon Hibachi which was yummy and reasonably priced. The highlight was the Banana Tempura for desert which comes at an unbelievably low price. The Groupon saved us a bit but the tip for their good service (at the counter for orders) came up at around the original total of 118 which is high but fancier hibachi places would be 150-200 for the food we ordered. Not sure if we'll be back unless they offer a better deal given the distance from Downtown Silver Spring, but for those in the area I'd suggest giving this place a try. read more

The restaurant has a small dining area - 6 tables - but they do a bustling carry-out business. FINALLY there is serviceable hibachi in town! Fiji Japan keeps it simple and it works. The store is small but very clean with a warm ambiance. The food is great and cooked front of house. Hibachi is great, simple soy sauce based as it should be. The white sauce is good, not too sweet. Big portions unlike the other guys. Now the sushi, we got simple rolls as my wife is pregnant but I had a chance to sit and watch the sushi chefs prep. Two men, very attentive to there task. Clean station and fresh fish. I'll come back and try something more complex later. The spicy tuna was had a complexity to it that you don't find often with good heat. On a personal note my wife and I haven't been able to find good hibachi in the area since we moved here from NC 6 years ago. Usually it's over priced, slimy, teriyaki wanna be garbage. This place is honestly the best hibachi I have ever had. The food is FRESH, delicious, fast, and a great portion. You get your money's worth. The crab ragoons are PHENOMENAL - the best I have ever had (the filling is on the sweeter side which I love and the sauce you can tell is made from scratch).
