There are too many vegetables; the taste is a bit bitter, which actually detracts from the aroma of the soup.

I have to say I was taken aback when we walked in and there were lots of tables on a Sunday at 2 o'clock and the waiter said please sit at a two top. I told him I'd like to order a lot of things and need more space and then wanted to experience the soup as I was told. It was very good. Our other waiter was very pleasant provided suggestions we ended up getting a Ramen soup, edamame, pork dumplings, and beansprouts salad. Everything was delicious. large portion sizes. I decided to order the pork ribs for seven dollars and have to say they were very disappointing. No meat on the bone at all . The decor in the restaurant is sparse tables and chairs. The ramen is good.

    Chanpon Ramen! A seafood delight!

I had the pleasure of lunching here with my son recently. His treat! This is another neighborhood restaurant within walking distance. A colleague told me about this place and how it was a favorite go-to restaurant for her and her son for many years. We both enjoyed the appetizer, homemade Gyoza - savory pork dumplings. It was difficult to decide what to order, everything looked delicious, so we started at the top of the ramen menu (because this place WILL be re-visited many more times!), and devoured our Chanpon Ramen bowls(pictured). There was a side of steamed rice, as well (also not pictured). Going on a Sunday around 1pm worked out. It wasn't crowded when we arrived, but the tables were full by the time we left. Definitely going back!

My family has been coming to Ren's Ramen for almost as long as my memories extend -- even since before they were at this location in Wheaton. It's been so long that I've evolved from the light broth of the shoyu ramen all the way to the deeply rich miso ramen. This place is a real gem and it's set my bar for ramen sky-high. The squiggly noodles are imported from Japan and they're so chewy. It's different from the straighter Kyushu noodles and some people might find they like these even more. Their gyoza is also excellent and sometimes they might even have fried rice available! Dunno if it's a "secret menu" item nowadays haha. My whole family spends a year salivating about it (which might actually be even better than their ramen) and then hoping and praying that our near-hourlong trip is not for naught. There's a couple of spots in the lot (don't stray too far to the left to avoid getting towed, though) and plentiful street parking that's free on Sundays and metered otherwise.

A little gem hole in the wall Sapporo style ramen joint. Lots to love in the food. The broth is so so tasty; had the Stamina Ramen which blends 2 different broths. I added extra tofu and bamboo. Also tried a vinegary bean sprout salad and an alcohol free Amazake, a sweet rice 'sake'. Ramen was amazing. However, I added extra noodles. It does not come with a lot of other ingredients so I feel like you will want to add in stuff to be full. On the downside, parking can be problematic and if the lot is full you have to find street parking. Also the ambience is pretty basic and charmless. But hey, you're here for the ramen. A meal for 2 cost around $50 plus tip.

I got their Misp Tan Tan (spicy sesame oil is the not-so secret ingredient in this one). I usually can't finish ramen and have to take the rest to-go, but this one was so delicious I really couldn't stop!! I haven't had ramen with such a strong sesame taste before and it was 10/10, I can't recommend it enough. Service was also super friendly and SO FAST!! We super appreciated that. Very casual eatery and great food.

Great ramen, but I wish there was a bit more broth.

I stopped by for an easy, breezy lunch, and I thought everything was great. Ren definitely is a place that I more than likely will visit again. While my ramen (I forgot which one I ordered) was absolutely delicious, I thought the amount of broth was a bit on the low side. Although the service was a bit cold, it was efficient. Since this was my first visit to Ren's Ramen, I did not consider that it might be one of those in and out spots. While the food is delicious, the ambiance of the restaurant has a no frills vibe, which is perfectly fine. Fortunately, I did not drive to the restaurant because the parking lot (which is shared by two other Asian restaurants) is really small. However, I am not 100% sure if there is additional parking outside the main parking lot.

Best ramen I have had outside of Japan. Small, unassuming place - just as it should be. It's all about the ramen.

How are the vegetarian options? Does the broth still taste good? Has anyone ever tried asking for a menu modification, say having the pork left out of the Stamina ramen? Thanks!

There are two vegetarian soups available, my friend had it and loved it. There are additional toppings you can put in like pork, egg, seaweed, bamboo, etc. I'm not sure if they can leave the pork out of the Stamina ramen, I never asked. Hope this… Read more

I usually order tonkotsu and am hesitant to try others since the broth makes all the difference but I ordered the shoyu ramen this time and it was delicious! Lighter than tonkotsu broth but still super flavorful. And the noodles had that good chew/mouth feel which makes all the difference. I also ordered the house black tea with boba and cheese foam which was also oishii! I appreciated that they had brewed tea options since often find milk tea to be too much with food. Sometimes places that do both boba and food nail one, but not the other but this place was great on both fronts! Service was quick and friendly as well.

The pork broth is standout, but I absolutely dream about the spider ramen. Named for the fried softshell on the top (which you can ask to swap for more shrimp), has a tom yum-like flavor. Creamy, spicy and slightly acidic, the broth could be poured on cardboard and I would eat it. Noodles are always perfect and the seafood is present, but not a huge portion - so you can focus on the broth. My only complaint? The lobster broth in the spider ramen dish is not listed as an option for the "make your own" bowl...which would allow me to perfectly customize it. I will regularly order the spider bowl in the meantime with no softshell, extra shrimp, and if I'm feeling down additional noodles and broth (allowing me to indulge for multiple meals) . Bubble tea is tasty - especially the rose milk tea. This place has a counter with a handful of seats and two tables for 4-6. After waiting for a table, we decided to mostly do takeout. We can order online. Would be great if they had a spot out front for takeout pickup as parking around the restaurant can be hard at times.

I admit, I pulled into the first plaza I saw that was easy to get in to find something, and wound up at Akira. I've had their ramen before at other locations, but this was my first time at this one. The place had a little bit of a crowd in it, but I was quickly seated. The Rockville location here is perhaps not the most beautifully decorated, with some rather odd ornamentation (like an actual, possibly functional, payphone? ), but it's still a nicer spot than a typical lunch counter. Okay, confession. I have no idea what the different ramens are. I always just kind of pick one randomly, and I've never met a ramen I didn't like. This time, I got the tantanmem. Of course, picking randomly, I picked one that used ivory soap as a topping -- or as you fancy people call it, "cilantro." Realising my error, I quickly caught the waitress and asked for it to be omitted. Akira actually skipped it! YAY! Thank you. I cannot tell you the number of times that request gets met with a "no problem" only for my dish to be overflowing with soap bubbles later. The broth had a little bit of a spice to it, not much, which was delightful. Everything was well cooked, and it really hit my hangry spot. My only small complaint was that my egg was still cold -- but, also, the bowl was set in front of me, and I simply hit the "ON" button and vacuumed it in.

For those of us familiar with traditional ethnic Chinese food, a menu written in Chinese is a good sign. They have traditional Taiwanese and Chinese food like scallion pancakes, sesame balls, beef noodle soup, soup dumplings, etc... Very good variety and there appears to be something for everyone, possibly with the exception of vegan dishes.. - Quality. Pretty good. Their scallion pancake was soft, not too oily, and not too salty. I prefer the scallion pancake to have been a bit more thick and flaky, but that's my personal preference. To be fair, still delicious. Their chive and pork dumplings definitely had a delicious chive flavor. Substantial and the wrapper was not too thick. Their spicy sesame paste tofu had a good flavor and substantive. The chili oil wontons were not too spicy and had a good flavor. Again, my personal preference would have been for the dumplings to have been more substantive, but still pretty decent. - Service. Pretty good. It appears most, if not all their staffers, speak Chinese (Mandarin), which was also helpful, because I specifically ordered in Chinese. I asked them about the spice level, because I wanted to ensure it would not be too spicy for my friend. - Price. Pretty good value for menu and portions. - Location. It's pretty easy to find. Also within convenient walking distance to the Silver Spring metro. The inside space is pretty good. Tables can seat a minimum of 2, all the way up to 8. What's Not - Quality. The sesame balls are smaller than I expected. They're the rough approximation of a ping pong ball, maybe smaller. I was disappointed, because I like sesame balls that are substantial. - Service. I specifically asked for soup spoons, because we were eating dumplings. Instead, they gave me regular spoons. Not all the dishes come out in the order you hope. For example, main dishes may come out before the appetizers. This is going to be dependent on your personal preference. - Parking.
