Highly recommend their Maryland Fried Chicken. It was absolutely worth the drive for me. The rice was incredibly flavorful, and the chicken was perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. It comes with a homemade ginger sauce that I drizzled over the rice and used as a dipping sauce for the chicken. I actually found this place by accident while looking for another restaurant with the same name at Eden Center. I'm not sure if they have the same owner, but I spotted the fried chicken on the menu and decided to give it a try. It completely exceeded my expectations! The staff explained that they poach the chicken beforehand to help retain moisture before deep frying it, which explains why it was so tender and crispy. I have a friend that lives in the area, and we visit her for a meal every time we're in DC to visit my in-laws. She recommended Mi La Cay and it was such a great choice. They have parking in front and we were able to grab a table for the 4 of us no problem. It was 11:30am on a Saturday. I had the pho with everything and it was great. The price was right, the broth was light and flavorful, not too oily or greasy. I also had a Vietnamese iced coffee, which hit the spot. No notes. We seated ourselves and they took our order right away. The outside of the building isn't much to look at nor is the decor on the inside, but I find that places like these have the best food. It's so refreshing and comes with 2 young coconut slices inside which are soft, sweet and delicious. I wish I got an extra juice to go! Summer Rolls: 10/10. Peanut sauce was yummy and I can't think of anything to make them better. Maryland Fried Chicken: 9/10. The perfect crispy skin and the dipping sauce is tangy yet sweet giving an explosion of flavor. Gà xối mỡ has crispy skin and is moist inside. However, I'm not a fan of their spicy ginger sauce. The portion is big imo. Hủ tiếu is pretty good. Cọng hủ tiếu (the noodle) is chewy and probably the best noodle I have had in the US. The sauce for dry version is on the sweet side. The soup is a bit salty and I don't like really like the flavor of the broth. So I'd recommend going with the dry version. Great price great food! read more

Overall we thought the food was tasty. The pho broth was pretty flavorful and the noodles perfectly cooked. The crispy chicken was okay, but it definitely needed the sauce on the side since it wasn't really seasoned otherwise. The tomato rice was somewhat bland also. The spring rolls were tasty but didn't come with lettuce or herbs, which is what I'm used to at the Vietnamese spots in NYC. Service was quick and attentive. I have been visiting this location for the last couple of years. Based on the Vietnamese spots that I have visited in the Wheaton area (that's close to where I live), I think this is the best one. For instance, the food is really delicious, and the menu has a nice variety of items. Every time that I visit, I tell myself that I'm going to try something new. However, I always stick to the same thing - the Tái Nạm Gầu Gân Sách and the Summer Rolls (OMG and the peanut sauce is AMAZING0. Hey, if ain't broke, don't fix it. Also, it's promising that this place usually has a good amount of diners, unlike a couple of the other places nearby. Also, I think the service is pretty good because the service team will actually speak with you instead of bluntly placing your bowl on the table and leaving. The ambiance isn't anything special; their interior isn't poorly designed, but it doesn't exactly match the mood their kitchen and dishes create. Though I'm used to beef in betel leaves, I was thrilled when my boyfriend wanted to try this grape leaf version. It was well-seasoned and delicious. I loved my chicken and vegetable crispy mi xao.
