I absolutely loved this new Japanese steakhouse. I've already visited twice, once for sushi and once for hibachi, and both experiences were outstanding. Even without a reservation, I was seated immediately, which was a great first impression. The service was excellent. Our server mentioned it was her first day, but you would never have guessed as she was attentive, warm, and handled everything beautifully. The food truly stood out. The sushi was fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with high-quality ingredients. The hibachi experience was just as enjoyable. The chef was entertaining, skilled, and added a fun, engaging touch to the meal. The restaurant itself is clean, inviting, and has a great atmosphere that makes you want to stay and enjoy your time. I would say that I love the new concept for privacy and convenience to have separate hibachi style grill tables throughout the restaurant than the traditional long table, where the entire restaurant has to share the table for communal dining, so that is a step up. I think that the customer service was excellent and the chef had charisma, personality, and should do stand up, he was a pleasure and a joy such a guy with rizz. My issue was the food itself as the rice was amazing but did not age well being taken back home for take out, and the chicken and salmon were not as flavorful as a homemade version I would had cooked so there was the blandness. I ended up having digestive issues and got sick for a day or two after eating from here which was disappointing, because the vibe is awesome in this spot and the positive energy is contagious. I felt so relaxed and joyous here. I think the food can be cooked better even though they are generous with excellent portion sizes. I think it is a strong contender for one of the best restaurants in the region if they step the food preparation up. I also did not like this sauce they provided, but it does have better customer service than the typical DMV spots which tend to struggle with the customer service, so they get an A with that making you feel welcomed and respected and not strictly transactional experience, very warm, nice, attentive, diligent, and hard working staff, so they have the bones here, so once they step up the actual food prep and quality then they will be 4 to 5 stars easily. Went to visit Sake last night for dinner with my parents and brought my friend and cousin along. Sushi wasn't bad at all and I had a decent time. We ordered a party boat that was about $81 which is more than reasonable. Finished almost all of it. I also had my 2 piece roe selection since that's my personal favorite. Service was nice. We had a waiter in training so it took just a bit longer but he did a good job. Ordered a Yueling and drank my draft in a cold glass. The fried oysters and seaweed salad were just ok but I liked their tempura. It's a very casual restaurant with a huge bar, some tables and habachi. read more

I gave into the BOGO deal on Grubhub and ordered the shrimp tempura roll (2) and Hibachi Chicken (2) among other items. I also ordered the $9 A La Carte salmon fillet. Flavorless and the salmon was extremely small for the price. They forcibly packed the double order of shrimp tempura rolls into one container and the only ingredients inside the roll were shrimp and iceberg lettuce. (Ahhh Cyclospora!) If you're expecting your traditional Shrimp Tempura Roll with Cucumber and Avocado, you will not find it here. After calling, the rep says they have this item for purchase for $4 if you order by calling or coming into the restaurant. I can't believe we never heard of this place since their grand opening in July 2024. Tonight, we finally got a chance to come here for dinner. The restaurant is beautiful and well decorated. All drinks and most appetizers are dirt cheap on Sunday all day. They have an All Day sushi half price section & we tried out at least half of them. While they are half price, the taste is amazing and you really get a bang for your buck. The most impressive part of the menu was the Party Boat which came with 15 pieces of Nigiri sushi & 36 pieces of sashimi along with 2 chef's special rolls. The presentation was spectacular and every piece of fish was fresh and of pristine quality. The whole boat only costs $81, an unbelievable value, easily over $120 everywhere else. It was beyond amazing! If you are not big fan of raw fish, there are plenty of cooked food to choose from. They also have a big section of Hibachi tables where the chef cooks in front of you, a nice dinner & entertainment at the same time. Service was a bit slow but probably because Sunday was quite busy. I'm not impressed by the basics and, for the most part, 75% of these places taste damn near the same. That said, let me get into the specifics... Likes: -some really great sushi deals and happy hour prices -portion sizes are good -a diverse menu of offerings - traditional hibachi, sushi, wings, fries, you name it -it's GREAT for families because of the food costs and offerings -the prices are pretty good compared to what you get at other places (like those in NOVA) -service from waitstaff was great. I think his name was Alex (he was Hispanic with dark, curly hair) - he was so great and very nice. -ample parking outside Dislikes: -the restaurant was cold inside -we were the first ones seated at the grill and waited 40 minutes for cooking to start. Like... WHAT? I get waiting to fill it but we waited 20 minutes and then an additional 15 minutes AFTER a big group that more than filled the table came in and ordered. -the "show" was boring -the salad dressing was watered down and very runny -they do mushroom soup over miso ... and it's bland and watery -the food needs more seasoning, especially the rice and noodles -the salmon was covered in like a teriyaki glaze and if you're doing that to cover up the taste of the fish, please don't. -his cooking order was all over the place and seemed to take forever. This was a very last minute decision to come here this last Friday as I was waiting for my ride nearby and I wanted to stop somewhere for a glass wine while I waited. I am so happy I decided to come here. The menu is perfect and there so many options. The food was fresh and good, and my family decided to join me once they arrived to pick me up. I ordered a Pinot noir, shrimp tempura , and two gyoza ( they come in 6 pieces each). My mom ordered her veggie style sushi, and since we never planned to eat there we got our food to go. The way our food was packaged/ presentation was so nice and everything felt really fresh and detailed. It's definitely a family friendly environment. Our waitress was so professional and intentive. The service was slow though, I had waited over 15 minutes just for my drink. So this place has nothing going for it other than the price. We came a few times to sit at the bar and that's fine. But every time we came back the quality and service was worse. My kid likes it so we came back but tonight was just hot garbage. I'm not sure how it can take 30 minutes to make bad sushi but bless their hearts they did it! Solid spot at the Wheaton Mall (adjacent to the mall, not technically in it). We've been here twice now. Good happy hour and specials. More affordable than the Hibachi place in downtown Silver Spring and free / easy parking -- though I think the cooking downtown is slightly better. Their appetizers (gyoza, wings) and sushi here are great. Kids hibachi special makes this place great for kids and parents! Standard steak hibachi is delicious -- order it rare! Wait staff seemed a little overwhelmed when we last visited, despite place only half full. Was a bit surprised all the Hibachi tables weren't filled on a Friday evening. So a tornado warning canceled our DC plans for my daughter's birthday and we ended up here after getting off at the wrong stop of the red line, and I gotta say it's one of my new favorite restaurants!! Our waiter was so knowledgeable about menu items and I was worried he'd be annoyed with all our questions but he was so kind and patient throughout the whole meal. My daughter ate (drank?) three bowls of mushroom soups and had a million appetizers and because of happy hour it was actually super affordable--$5 tempura and $3 California rolls and I think the French fries were even cheaper! The chef was funny, engaging and did cool tricks throughout cooking on the hibachi cooktop (fire, volcano with onions, spinning egg on spatula). He cracked many jokes and even memorized customer names. Started with a sushi appetizer that had 6 pieces of classic nigiri (salmon, tuna, yellowtail, shrimp, ect). Had the vegetable hibachi entree. Sake Japanese Steakhouse is conveniently located by AMC, easy to get to. Went out looking for (surprise) steak but had no interest in going to Outback or the usual locales, so I gave this one a try. Sake is spacious and there's the choice of getting a table in the back or where the hibachi (sp?) guys were making onion volcanos and such. I like the quiet, not being near public spectacles, so a corner table was the the place to be. Food-wise, I'd say they provide more for what you order. A to-go box is a good idea when it comes to the combo dishes, at least. Miso soup, of course, is miso soup. Just what I wanted on top of everything else. Overall it was an enjoyable experience although they were training new staff that evening, and it felt a bit weird to have a group of 4-5 waitresses come over to check on how the food is, etc. Sauce was a little sweeter than expected but that's okay. Sake does have a bar, although of course you can order from the drink menu they provide at your table. Since the steakhouse in the same area as the mall, and easy to get a ride, this would be a comfortable spot to down a few drinks on a Friday or Saturday night. There's music and plenty of TVs but the noise level isn't obnoxious. it's reasonable. One more thing: As you walk toward the entry you'll be greeted by the image of a sumo wrestler's posterior beaming at you from the side window. This was my first time coming to this restaurant, I had gone with my boyfriend. We had asked for the Hibachi table and we were sat next to a family, at first there was an empty seat between the two of us, but come find out there actually was a kid sitting there. we noticed the other family didn't feel comfortable with their child sitting next to us and out of respect, we also moved down by one chair so we all can have a space in between. The hostess with purple short hair immediately came and told us we weren't allowed to move down a seat because its separated by sections, which is fine. If those are the rules, then those are the rules. But, when I tried to explain why we had moved down, she had given me a look as if I was stupid or weird which I didn't appreciate. The 2nd thing was the waitress, when she came to take down our order, as mentioned, it was our first time here. My boyfriend had asked if the mushroom soup and lettuce were included in the hibachi dinner experience, and she had confirmed it was but I had asked "Do we have to only get the Mushroom Soup?" and instead of explaining or telling me if I could replace it, she replied to me in a very condescending tone saying "Well no one is forcing you to eat it". After that, we chose to leave because the atmosphere didn't feel right and very hostile towards us. we really didn't appreciate this experience. Food comes out and I get a roll that's not salmon, which is fine, I don't like to give waiters a hard time but I just wanted to know what it was. Long story short manager comes out all pissy and says yea it's crispy salmon roll which I did not order, and my waiter literally said yea you're right that's not what you ordered. For the hibachi, I had the filet and shrimp which were both cooked very well and filet was to order. The noodles were lacking some seasoning. The fried rice was excellent. I'd get double rice next time. It was enough food to take home for an entire other meal! The kids portion was a single protein and all the same side portion as the adult so a great value. Finally! A reliable dine in spot to go to in Wheaton. I came here on a Saturday night with no reservation and there was plenty of space for walk ins. We opted for the no hibachi option because we just wanted sushi, but I will def try the hibachi the next time I'm here. A lot of the rolls (including specialty rolls) were half off so the rolls we got ranged from $3-$7. We loved the yummy and sweet potato rolls and got seconds of those. Absolutely amazing service, food and value!!! I walked in with my husband and daughter and decided to try them out for lunch. The ambiance of the restaurant is so clean and and new with a large staff that all greeted us with smiles and made sure our drinks were filled ( I even had a sweet server stop me from cleaning under my daughters high chair which has never happened!!) The food was absolutely delicious, we ordered the filet mignon and the lobster ( both on the lunch menu and under $20 ) this came with a salad and mushroom soup. We also had the crab Rangoon app ($6) which was so fresh tasting. ( also huge portions especially for lunch) Also the show was great, I didn't know how my daughter would take the fire/loud bangs but she loved it and chief ( Tommy) kept making sure she was fine. Standard disclosure: my benchmark is omakase at a place that has catered for the Embassy of Japan, so the bar is very high. Sake is still in soft opening, and the liquor license is still in progress, so you'll have have to wait for their namesake brew. The restaurant is located outside the main mall, on the south side, next to AMC. So, plenty of free parking. Dark wood interior with comfy booths and tables, hooded teppanyaki grills in the back. Chirashi, as always. Included soup and salad were pretty standard. The presentation of the chirashi was very kawii (cute). I especially liked that they used real shizo leaves. The rice was properly seasoned, the tomago (omlet) correctly rolled and sweet, but not caramelized. The surimi (fake crab) was just what I expected of this ultraprocessed abominable pseudo food. The octopus could have used a bit more cooking or thinner slicing. It was a bit chewy but manageable and tasty. The five main fish, snapper, salmon, tuna, yellowtail, and albacore, were all generous slices, with silky texture but slightly muted flavor. Better than buffet grade, but not upscale. Very cordial service, good food, very good value. I would definitely stop by after shopping or a movie. Solid four ****. read more

This may become my new favorite goto spot! #1 for me is the Public Health score 'Zero' violations, makes Sake #1 restaurant on my list. This is a very solid restaurant. I'll be going back many times. The food was cooked well, so now I need to go back for the uncooked - the Sushi. The steak was juicy and prepared perfectly. The service was great, and the ambiance was very pleasant. Title: Ignored and Left Hungry Before Our Movie My partner and I went to Sake Japanese Steakhouse last night Sunday, hoping for a quick and enjoyable dinner before our 7:00 PM movie at the movie theater in the same shopping center. We arrived around 6:00 PM, thinking an hour would be more than enough time. We sat at the bar, and that's where the evening went downhill. We sat for a full 22 minutes before the bartender even made eye contact. To be fair, she looked incredibly busy and seemed to be working the entire bar by herself, so we were prepared to be patient. When she finally came over, we explained that we were trying to make a movie at 7:00 PM and would like to order our drinks and food all at once to save time. She nodded and said she'd be right back to take our order. She did come back to our section of the bar, but only to pointedly ignore us. She turned to two other parties seated near us--both of whom had arrived after we did--and proceeded to greet them and take their complete orders. Her being busy was understandable; deliberately ignoring us in favor of customers who arrived later was not. It was just plain rude. It was impossible not to notice that these other patrons were the same ethnicity as the bartender, while we were not, making it increasingly difficult to believe this wasn't a factor in the terrible service. After being completely ignored by her for some time, we went to the host stand and explained that our bartender would not serve us and that we were on a tight schedule. The host apologized and said they would send someone over immediately. We went back to our seats and waited. Ten more minutes passed, and still, no one came. At that point, we were out of time and patience. Honestly, given Wheaton's long-standing reputation and its numerous documented history of issues with violent crime, deciding to have a night out there can feel like taking a risk. We accepted that , but we never expected the threat to our evening to come from the staff. The blatant disregard from the bartender was bad enough, but the failure of the host staff to help us after we specifically asked for assistance was astounding. If you're looking for a place where you'll be treated with basic courtesy, We'd strongly recommend going elsewhere. read more

I also loved the sushi menu--the rolls were creative and beautifully presented. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that there was no alcohol service at the time but I believe they will have their liquor license to seek in 4-6 weeks, but I chalk that up to them still getting into the swing of things since they just opened. My family and I had such a great time at Sake Japanese! The hibachi chef had us cracking up the entire time with his jokes and tricks. The atmosphere was lively and fun as well. (Liquor license should be approved in a few days though so no alcohol as we went during the soft opening) We ordered the sushi boat, and it was incredible--so much delicious sushi, and the price was super reasonable for the amount of food we got.
