Rude mangers who denied me a refund.
    George W.

I am writing to report a serious health and safety concern regarding a recent visit to [teppanyaki grill]. During my visit, I observed signs of a pest infestation, including cockroaches, rodents, droppings, etc.]. This raised significant concerns about food safety and cleanliness at the establishment. As a customer, I expect restaurants to maintain a hygienic environment that complies with health regulations. I strongly urge your team to conduct a thorough inspection and take immediate corrective actions to address this issue. I requested a refund and the manger said no .

During my hair break, I came here for lunch. Paid at the counter. I think it was about $14 plus a tip. They provide plastic forks to dine with. I did scope the sushi bar, but nothing was a winner for me. I really had a hard time finding anything worth eating but picked up some sautéed vegetables and tried different varieties of chicken. Some items were not worth eating again, but overall, it is a buffet. Had issues trying to get some cream for my tea. But the young lady brought a carton of half and and half and I explained to her yes that is what I wanted. The man up front gave me such a hard time about the creamer. Some people do take cream in their tea.

This place is okay if you get there when they first open, other than that the food is dry and depleted.

I was here for lunch around noon and the sushi looked ok, but not particularly fresh. (I'm not saying it wasn't fresh, just that it looked like it had been sitting around). It tasted fine. There is a broccoli with chicken and broccoli with beef stir fry. The broccoli in each were outstanding. Fresh, crisp and delicious. Two baked fish entrees (salmon and a white fish) - both were very good. Nothing fancy - just tasty fish. There's a fried fish (tilapia or some type of white fish) that was very good. The breading was tasty and not too thick. There's a cocktail sauce on the salad bar that is good and goes well with this dish. The hot and sour soup was tasty. Broth was a little thick, likely from corn starch. Less corn starch and the soup would be great (although some people like a thick broth). I didn't do the hibachi. There's also a chocolate fountain that I didn't use. There's a nice variety of fresh fruit. And I was impressed by the juiciness of the oranges and the melon. Extensive salad bar and good selection of items for dessert. Overall, a good buffet at a good price point for lunch and, I think, also for dinner. The servers were friendly and worked to remove plates and to keep drinks from going empty. The place is large and comfortable.

While visiting Alexandria, we decided to grab dinner at a Japanese steakhouse. After a quick Google…read moresearch, we landed on Sake Japanese Steakhouse. Now I'll be honest--when we first pulled up, it looked a little sketch. But the reviews were solid (4+ stars), so we said why not--and went for it. I had a party of 11, and we were seated within minutes, which was a huge plus! The place wasn't too crowded, a bit on the smaller side, and didn't have all the usual flair and flames you might expect from a Japanese steakhouse--but hey, we were already in, so let's go! The staff was friendly overall. Our waiter Genard really tried to keep up with our large group. He missed a few things here and there, but nothing major--overall, he did a decent job. Let's get into the food... The salad came out nice and cold, but that ginger dressing? Whew... not for me. It tasted really heavy on the mayo and overpowered the ginger flavor. I sent it back and got the ginger dipping sauce instead--and that actually worked much better! The soup was hot and fresh like it should be. It had mushrooms (not my thing), so I just pushed those to the side. Now the main event--the food was GOOD! I actually loved that they added vegetables like peas and carrots into the rice--nice little touch you don't always see. The shrimp was tender, the chicken was delicious, and I really appreciated how finely chopped it was instead of big chunks--it made it more tender and soaked up that teriyaki flavor perfectly. The vegetables were cooked just how I like them--crisp broccoli, carrots, onions... flavorful and not overcooked at all. And let's not forget the plum wine--nice, cold, sweet, and exactly what I needed after a long day running around with kids for spring break. It definitely hit the spot! And the BEST part? The pricing! Very reasonable--especially compared to Japanese Hibachi in other cities! $30 for a combo is ALWAYS a win! Overall, we had a really good time. Most of the group enjoyed their food--maybe one or two minor complaints, but nothing major. I'd give it a solid 4 out of 5. If you're in Alexandria, it's worth checking out!

The customer service of the staff outside of the cooks could be A LOT BETTER! We were originally sat at one table and was seated and ready when all of a sudden we got switched to another table which took longer for orders. Their food was very subpar compared to other Japanese Steakhouses and needs more seasoning. However it is your typical Japanese steakhouse experience! I would return for a drink and food at happy hour but would prefer another steakhouse unless I am just on the area or attending a friend/family event.

There's a limit on nigiri/sashimi to one piece per order. What that means is that, when you put in your first (and subsequent orders), you can order one tuna, one salmon, etc nigiri/sashimi. That is a lot better than what I originally thought, which was one nigiri/sashimi total for each round. The variety in the AYCE is impressive. Lots of sushi, sashimi, nigiri, salads, soups, variety of appetizers (not all fried stuff!) and hibachi (beef, chicken and shrimp). Tonight, the food arrived pretty quickly after we put in an order. There was an issue toward the end of the evening when the app stopped working at our table and the table next to ours. The Staff did what they could to fix things; it did take about 20 minutes, though. I'm assuming this isn't typical. Staff did say that this does happen from time to time and the customer needs to exit the app and reorder. Except for the 20 minute delay, things worked fine. We placed at least 12 small orders during our meal. The staff was very good about filling water glasses, bringing our food and taking away empty plates. Really - high praise for the staff. The restaurant is very pleasant to sit in. It has Asian motif and nice music playing over the PA. The only issue was with the ordering system, which, as I said, I'm thinking was unusual. Ice cream and soft drinks included.

We made the drive from DC to check out this sushi gem in Laurel, and it was absolutely worth it. Happy Hour runs from 4 PM to 7 PM, and the deals are the kind that make you want to come back again next week. Sushi is half-priced (yes, half!), sake is just $4, and shooters are $6. In this economy? That's a win. Do yourself a favor and grab a seat at the bar. Deidra was our bartender, and she was top-tier--attentive, friendly, and on point the entire time. You can tell when someone takes pride in their work, and she definitely does. Great service makes good food even better. Plenty of parking, strong drinks, fresh and flavorful sushi--no fluff, just facts. If you're willing to take a short drive for a solid Happy Hour that delivers on value and quality, this Laurel sushi spot deserves a visit. Atmosphere: Tucked into a quiet Kingstown strip mall. Interior is nice if not a bit dated and dark. They seem to only have hibachi tables, and when we arrived, it was empty (we did also have a reservation). It got much busier earlier, and I think that is because it takes time to move people in and out with the hibachi. Service: The greeter and server were excellent. We observed some other hibachi chefs who seemed fun and engaged. Our chef, however, seemed really checked out and was not into doing the whole shtick. Here's where I lowered my rating from a 4.5 or even a 5 to a 3 - My wife and I are allergic to shellfish, and my mother doesn't eat shrimp because it's not kosher. The server asked us about dietary restrictions, and we noted right away that we wanted our shrimp that comes with each meal to go to my father, the only member of our party who eats it. We also requested that the rest of the food be cooked further away from the shrimp and not make direct contact, etc. We also repeated this request to the chef again when he started preparing our meal. Despite this, he proceeded to prepare the shrimp with it touching the chicken and beef, and used the same hibachi utensil the entire time, moving between the shrimp and the other meats and veggies without care. Luckily, we don't have a strong contact response , but my throat did feel itchy after the meal. I think this was a reasonable request and one that has been accommodated at every other hibachi restaurant I have ever been to - at Disney, they simply accommodated us by cooking the shrimp after everything else was done and served. The only 'care' our chef took here was omitting the part of the service where shrimp pieces are tossed. On top of this, the food was much greasier than even the average hibachi. Tons of butter - I also thought the way the chef dipped his used grill utensils into a huge vat of butter was unsanitary and likely against code. Everything tasted okay in the moment, but two of us got sick after - not sure if this was from the food safety or the sheer amount of butter and oil. Chicken was flavorful but dry. Steak was flavorful but tough. Veggies were very good. I enjoyed my hot saki and my wife enjoyed her Kirin. Soup and salad are served with the meal. I was surprised that the soup was a clear chicken broth and not miso as is traditional. It was very plain and flavorless. Overall, I would not recommend this place, despite there being fewer and fewer hibachi options around where you get the full grill experience.
