The cabbage in my shrimp egg roll was brown and the two shrimps were small. The food did not taste fresh. They can do better by taking time to cut fresh cabbage and clean fresh shrimp. The food service industry is declining in some areas and it is unacceptable to think that people would want to pay for poor quality food. When we called in an order of a five piece chicken wings and fries and a three piece chicken wings and fried rice, they let us know that it was cash only so there was no surprise. The food was ready when we arrived and they waited until we were there to put on the mambo sauce. The place looked clean which is always reassuring. The food tasted good. Great carry out! The food is always hot, fresh (e.g. no fries cooked in old grease) and delicious. The restaurant is clean and the staff are reasonably friendly. I ordered a bunch of stuff on my most recent visit: Combination lo mein, wings and fried rice, whole steak and cheese, shrimp egg rolls, and steamed vegetables. Everything was delicious... I just had a few small issues. The lo mein was cut up into little noodle pieces which made it very difficult to pick up with my chopsticks. I ordered $33 worth of food from this place at 8:15pm Wednesday. The main course was shrimp broccoli with extra brown sauce. When I arrived at Jerry's my food wasn't ready. I asked the cashier if they remembered the extra brown sauce. Her answer was made no sense so I asked again and she replied "They are cooking it now". When my order arrived there wasn't enough sauce to pour over rice. I gave the overly dry shrimp with broccoli back to her and asked for more sauce. Once I got home I discovered they had poured a very thick jelly like substance all over my shrimp broccoli. It was not even edible. If you're going to be rude at least serve good food. The fries were trash and we only received two pieces of shrimp but overall, it was pretty good. They used white meat for the chicken and the broccoli had a nice snap to it. I was at work and complaining about how much I missed a Philly cheesesteak and a coworker told me about this place so I drove over there and ordered the lunch special which was a small cheesesteak, fries, and a coke . I have to say it was delicious! Good roll , good flavor, lots of cheese , really fresh onions, tomatoes, and lettuce ! The fries were cooked perfectly although I think they were the mass produced store bought type but they were hot and crunchy! I ate it in my car but if you were gonna take home you'll want to open the fries container so they don't steam and get soggy . Sorry it took me so long to find you guys but I'll definitely be back ! I would suggest NOT going to this carryout. As a person whose been to many carryout and growing up in DC where mumba sauce originated from. This place charges too much and is stingy with putting mumba sauce and ketchup on chicken. When asked to put extra sauce they have he nerve to charge $1 more. I've been going to Jerry Yum's for years. I've had the Lo Mein, Cheesesteaks, Wings & Fries, Fried Rice, Sweet & Sour Chicken and Shrimp & Broccoli. So it's safe to say they never miss. The food is always delicious and a great portion. The only carry out I go to in the area. The only downside is they only take cash. This used to be a nuisance for a long time, however now you can just use UberEats Pickup option and pay online there and pick your food up. read more

BUG IN MY SHRIMP FRIED RICE Let me first start by saying I am a long time customer of Jerry Yum's. I come here all the time because I love the food and the customer service is decent. However, I had a different experience today. Yesterday, I purchased a Small size Shrimp Fried Rice and a whole Steak and Cheese. Went home ate half of the food, woke up the next morning to eat my leftovers and discovered a DEAD BUG in my Shrimp Fried Rice. I immediately returned to the restaurant to make them aware of this, and I requested a full refund. They insisted that I couldn't get a full refund that I could only get a partial refund for the Fried Rice (Them Stating that I had eaten majority of the food). I was very disappointed by this as I found it very unsanitary to encounter a bug in my food at all. I Just want to make other customers aware and make sure you check and inspect your food before you eat it!!!! I'll never return here again!!! read more

Given that this is my local preferred Chinese carry-out, I was very disappointed with this particular visit. Usually I'm used to a high quality of food coming from this location, but this time was a real letdown... My family and I cold in a dinner order and got a general tso's chicken combo with fried rice, happy family and a half steak and cheese sub. My general tso's chicken combo was lackluster. the fried rice that was supposed to be fried was actually just yellow rice with a tiny bit of onion and bean sprouts. The sauce all over top of my chicken was bland and extremely dry. the happy family that I ordered was also bland and tasteless also that use imitation crab meat when it was supposed to just be regular crab meat or lobster. my 6-inch steak sub was dry, despite the fact that I had mayonnaise and mustard on it. Dry as a bone. I've been coming to this establishment for years now and I've never had food of such low-quality. It's almost as if they are resting on their laurels haven't been one of the best Chinese food establishments in our area for quite some time now. Totally dissatisfied with the service, their attitude towards their customers. I ordered 6 Chicken Wings and French Fries. I requested an additional mambo sauce and was told that I needed to pay an additional $1.00. The wings were over cooked, not to mention the lack of sauce for the amount of wings purchased, made for a disappointing meal. I love their food and the mixture of chinese meets american. The only issue I have is that they don't take cards nor do they deliver. I mean, it doesn't take much to have a credit card machine or get a delivery boy. If they did I would go more often. That the only reason they get 3 stars. Soemtimes it is very busy and it is better to call in your food though. Some of the guests can be rude to tohers and the workers, but that's folks. I do like their fried chciken and beef rib tips, though i wish they put soem more sauce on them after frying them. they should throw them in a pan and do it that way. read more

Worst carry out . The building is run down, with the folks coming in and out you would think they would put value back into it for the community they serve and keeps them in operation. There are three major carry-outs in this area... Eddy's, Peter's and Jerry Yum's. All roughly a mile or so close to each other. And unfortunately, I made the wrong choice this evening. I haven't been to Jerry Yum's in about a decade and couldn't remember why, so I decided to go back. Bad move. Granted, my review is based off three items... Chicken Wings with Mumbo (whole), Buffalo Wings (drums and flats) and Fries with Mumbo. But I have eaten these same items at every carry out in the DC area that was recommended to me. So I like to think my opinion of said items are not arbitrary. Today I got 10 Buffalo wings and fries. I paid 12 bucks and change. The fries costs no more than 3 bucks so it means I paid about 8 bucks for the wings alone. But you get far less chicken than fries, so if you are trying to get bang for your buck, simply get the fries. But I would even go as far as to say, don't get the fries either. Eddy's has much better Mumbo sauce and less than a mile away. After receiving my food and seeing how small the wings were, I took the following pics. As you can see, 10 whole Buffalo wings fit in the same size box as the fries did. Also, the fries were almost as big as the wings. So if hungry, why pay $8 when you can pay $3 and get same amount of food. And if you take the chicken off the bone, and weigh the meat against the fries, the fries weight noticeably more. And if the wings were tasty enough to justify the price point, I'd mention that, but the wings were just as tasteless as the wings, on top of being undercooked. I have also noticed that the size of all the wings (Whole Wings and Buffalo) in the 3 carryouts I noticed have gotten progressively smaller over the past 10 years while the prices have gone up. I wonder if this is because folks out here have more money than other area code so the 3 carryouts feel we will simply accept this. Getting wings at more "urban" places generally always results in much bigger wings. read more

I like Jerry Yums. I got sick from there once but honestly it was my fault. Who in their right mind would eat 3 day old Chinese food that she paid 6 dollars for? As far as carry-out food goes, Jerry Yum's is the best. Is the little Asian lady manning the register the nicest? Maybe not, but hell if I had a line to the wall and a phone ringing off the hook I wouldn't be either. But manners aside, the food is hot and just (dare I say it) YUMMY YUMMY YUMMY. Being from Baltimore, I have had my fair share of good chicken, especially from good 'ol Lexington market, but I gotta tell ya, Jerry Yum's rings supreme. Years ago the food here was worth it but after eating here a few times recent interview I don't think I'll spend any of my money here. A few times I ordered General tso chicken and all of the chicken cubes basically were full of dough and very little meat. And i stress the very little meat part. This didn't happen just once in the same week or month but more then a few times in different months. Also on a sidenote the lady that usually takes the order is very rude and doesn't know anything about good customer service. There are a lot better carryouts in the area besides this one.
