We went to Susheria for a quick dinner before a movie at AMC. We sat at the bar. The sushi was good, but it's definitely more expensive than other places. Some of the individual sushi rolls were $27. For 3 rolls, 1 miso soup and 1 beer, we spent over $100. The service was fine, no issues. However, they allow hookah at the bar. The guy next to us was doing flavored hookah while we were eating, and it kind of disturbed the flavor of the food when we were inadvertently inhaling his flavored smoke. The sushi rolls were good. I asked the hostess about seats and she interrupted me to say I could order at the bar and take it to a different area with green seats (in the dark with no one else around lol). Fine with me! Susheria in Georgetown is such a vibe -- especially on R&B Night. It's tucked underneath the bridge next to the movie theater, so it already feels like a hidden gem. The décor is beautiful: marble counters, gold chandeliers, and dark moody lighting that instantly sets the tone. It was girls night, so we started with hookah blueberry mint hookah (smooth and long-lasting), and for food I tried the Calamar Frito, Lemongrass Chicken, the Amazonico Roll, and the Churrasco Roll. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and plated beautifully. The rolls were definitely the stars -- I'd order both again. Last but not least, their Litchi cocktail, which is Susheria's twist of a lychee martini, IS TO DIE FOR. Girls do yourself a favor and sub the vodka for tequila. The talented saxophonist kept the vibe lively and was a fun addition to the crowd. At the time of my arrival there was security at the door that required a copy of the reservation and ID. Hamza was our server - very attentive. The servers do a lot of multitasking and seem to have a good flow even for a busy evening. Be careful with what you see on their website - my friend was excited for their half priced bottle wines (we were there for a girls night) and they did not honor what was on the site. There are also a few items listed that they no longer serve. When you come, plan to have backup options. Food - The edemame could use a bit more salt. The seaweed salad was tasty. My friend had the miso soup and she said it was good but it didn't stand out. The shrimp gyoza would've been enjoyed more if they were pan-seared longer. We had various rolls. The Mate was delicious, my favorite from what I tried. The Churrasco had so much potato fries inside, we all agreed that it was too much carb but the ribeye was cooked well and had a nice flavor. Unfortunately, service left much to be desired, especially from the table staff. Sitting at the bar was a better experience, thanks to the aforementioned bartender, but table service felt inattentive. The ambiance was where things really went downhill. A live DJ was set up right next to our table, making it feel more like a nightclub than a restaurant. If you're coming here to enjoy a lively, high-energy vibe, that might be a plus, but if you're looking for a relaxed dinner with friends, it's a struggle. The music was overwhelmingly loud--so much so that my Apple Watch even sent a hearing damage warning. Conversation was nearly impossible. As for the food, it was decent but not exceptional. The sushi was good, and the rolls were slightly above average, but nothing particularly stood out. I did appreciate the art deco style of the place. It's like the great gasby dines here. I'd heard some good things about this place on social media and decided to stop in for a jazz music on a Wednesday night. I love how the restaurant is decorated, it's very chic. I got there at around 7 and it was very crowded already. The bar was full initially, I was sat at a table and given a 1 1/2 seating time maximum. I knew I wanted to stay for the live jazz, so as soon as a bar seat opened, I sat there instead. The customer service was good. I ordered the spicy edamame and the Hamachi Tiraditos. They were both very good! I sipped on wine and prosecco most of the night and chatted with people at the bar. They did have a live saxophonist which was pretty cool and the DJs were playing all the good 90s-2000s and current R&B. The restaurant stays open from 4pm-12am Wednesday through Saturday, 4pm-11pm on Sunday and Tuesday, and it is closed on Mondays. I visited this spot about a year ago and enjoyed the experience. On this latest visit (May 2025), it was a complete disappointment. Honestly, 1 star is a generous review on just how bad it was. We ordered one sushi roll, and told our server that we were in a rush since we had a movie at the AMC nearby in about 1 hour. My partner and I ordered some drinks. I sampled a red wine and it tasted like vinegar. Clearly this is a cocktail spot and the wine wasn't sold in quite some time. I decided to pass and stuck to water. My partner said his cocktail tasted watered down and not to his taste. The thing that made us most frustrated was how long it took to get the food. After asking multiple times about our food (1 sushi roll), our server brought it over after more than 1 hour of waiting. The sushi rice was overcooked. Our server, while friendly, was absent most of our time. There was zero apology or explanation on why it took so long to get the food. This is terrible service. To top it off, the restaurant had a live DJ blasting music. I would not recommend coming here for a date night or to have a conversation. We see movies at the nearby AMC pretty much every week. While this place is such a convenient nearby spot, I don't think we'll ever come back based on the slow service and mediocre food. There are so many better places in Georgetown. Lastly, a major pet peeve of mine is a bait and switch with happy hour menus. This place offers a happy hour on food and drinks but ONLY if you sit at the bar. Yes, the bar that has only 10 seats. Really cute inside! This place was quiet earlier on a Sunday. The cocktails are fantastic. Some of the sushi was a little too inventive which is why I removed a star. I liked the volcano roll, but we were expecting cold crab salad and instead it was served warm. The temperature threw off the roll a bit and I had one piece that tasted a bit fishy. However, the salmon nigiri was super fresh and really good. I also loved the wagyu (so tender and flavorful) and the crispy tuna rice. The chicken gyoza also had a bit of a really strong and different flavor. The sauce they served with the gyozas was super spicy but really good. I would probably be back and try other rolls. Typically, they wouldn't honor the happy hour deal, but the bartender made an exception and waited on me anyway, which I thought was really cool. Overall, the service was 100 all around. The drinks were crafted really well, which I ordered a few of them. I didn't care too much for the gyoza/dumpling as they were fried and not pan seared as I prefer them. To eat, me and my date shared seaweed salad and lemongrass chicken, both good. For our mains we each had a sushi roll. Both were good but nothing to write home about. Had the matcha mochi for dinner which was a bit of a let down, not much taste. While the food itself was pretty tasty, the prices didn't at all match the quality of what was served. It was super expensive and the portions were on the smaller end. Each sushi roll was $20-$25 and there is just sooooo much better sushi in the city for cheaper. I actually thought the food overall was pretty good but the value isn't there. The ambience was wonderful. They play a mix of house music and Latin music that is loud enough to create a good vibe but not so loud you can't talk. I could hear my date perfectly without needing to yell. The restaurant was mostly empty with only 3 other tables so I can imagine it might easily be too loud with the music and a full restaurant. Left early because they closed for a private event.
