My two friends and I had a good experience with Moonraker before a concert at The Anthem. We wanted to get a cute dinner before our show, unfortunately, we got stuck in really bad 95 traffic and they were super accommodating with our reservation when we called to let them know. It's located on the rooftop of the Pendry hotel. You take the express elevator to the far left to get there. We shared their last bottle of vino verde that was very refreshing. We tried a bunch of different things on their menu. Our favorite was the tempura cauliflower, I highly recommend ordering this. I found myself wanting more from the hamachi crudo, but it was still fine. I loved my ora king salmon yaki puff. It was super unique and I recommend ordering one. My one friend enjoyed her veggie roll. The other got the Maryland Crab Roll (which I found to not have as much flavor as I wanted). Do know that they do not split checks here, which wasn't an issue for us. It's on the far end of the Wharf near one of the parking lots. This place is beyond aesthetically pleasing. We loved the bar and gorgeous views. It's quite pricey for what you get, but that's to be expected on The Wharf. Great for a date night! read more

Moonraker was such a vibe from start to finish. The atmosphere is gorgeous, modern, airy, and the perfect mix of upscale and comfortable. The moment we walked in, everyone was welcoming and so genuinely kind. The food was incredible, beautifully presented, and full of flavor. We went for drinks before dinner and the good view and we were not disappointed. Drinks were a Sauvignon Blanc, a Pinot Noir, a Jameson and a Makers Mark. We added edamame to nibble on and share. They were as expected on the expensive side - bill came to $108 without the tip. Our server was on the ball and very pleasant. We went to moonraker both for breakfast as Pendry guests as well as evening bar service. For breakfast, everything is well and food is excellent, but service very much falls apart if it gets busy, at one point with our server bringing us our check before our food arrived and coming back more than once to ask again about details of our order. This, if there's a wait for breakfast seating I probably would suggest getting room service or going elsewhere. For bar service, drink costs were a bit inflated even for a trendy rooftop bar, but well made by clearly veteran bartenders. I did find the outdoor seating a bit odd. With what appears to be past balcony built-in flower beds now just dirt pits in the middle of walkways, causing soil to be spread over the balcony tile as people walked to and from their seats. That said, the view from said balcony of DC at night was peaceful and lovely. read more

I came in for some birthday drinks on a Thursday evening. Parking was super easy in the neighborhood. We were able to get a table for 2 right away. Our server was very knowledgable and kind. We order to glasses of champagne and an order of their hamachi. Their hamachi was a 7/10, nothin super special but it was plated really nicely. The champagne was crisp and cold. We weren't able to sit outside because it had just finished raining however we were still able to pop outside to take photos. This is really cool and dope space with an incredible view of the river that you just can't beat. The atmosphere is beautiful and stylish with a really nice bar and plenty of space around the bar to relax located on the top level of the Pendry. It's a real vibey spot - great for all occasions. I came here for drinks with friends and was really happy with our choice. I had the old fashioned and it was excellent - made just right. I really appreciate a place that knows how to make a proper cocktail and Moonraker definitely delivered. Our bartender was great and made sure we had what we needed and also did a great job with making our cocktails. While I only stuck to drinks this time, the menu looked great and I'll definitely be back to try some of their food along with more cocktails. Moonraker is a rooftop hideaway atop the Pendry Hotel on DC's The Wharf, with Japanese-inspired bites and sushi with a panoramic view of downtown. It was a chilly evening and so we sat inside by the bar. It's very intimate, very, very tight quarters as we were squeezed against the glass windows with a tiny table. Conversations were loud. There is another section, away from the bar, but I specifically asked to be seated in this room though they were persistently trying to get us to go to the other room. We enjoyed tempura cauliflower, Tokyo fried chicken, dashi cacio e Pepe, misoyaki cod, and rolls. Dishes were small but enough to share. We thought about (but did not order) the Millionnaire Roll ($111). We were full but not stuffed. This is more of a bar/see and be scene kind of place. Staff was attentive. Not my first time at Moonraker, but first time back in a while! This is your upscale bar with gorgeous views and well dressed patrons. Perfect for a date night if you have some extra money, it's not on the cheaper side of things. I usually only have drinks here and they're always a hit. Bartenders are great! I tried the Hamachi crudo this time and it was one of the best crudos I've had! Perfectly sweet and sour without being too acidic! I want more just thinking about it. I love dropping by here from time to time on a weekday. The views are beautiful and while a tad pricey, enjoy their sushi as well. If you come here off peak, you'll find this place will feel like a serene getaway. I've visited on the weekends as well, which everyone is dressed up a notch visiting for a night out on the town. It will likely be very crowded with limited seating without reservations, but the evenings are when I have the most fun enjoying the patio, fire pits and breeze from off the river. Service when they first opened was a bit spotty but in recently visits they have been on point! It is a very small restaurant when the outside seating is not available, but it is a very nice place for a date night. The views of the Wharf from the balcony are amazing! To start off, we got the Tokyo Fried Chicken, which was plentiful and very crispy on the outside yet tender on the inside. The sauce also paired nicely. The Maryland Crab Roll was great, and there was a lot of meat in each piece! The Maryland Crab Fried Rice was definitely my favorite, it was very flavorful, and also had a lot of meat in it. We tried the Ora King Salmon Yaki Puffs, but unfortunately I did not like it, as it felt very very salty. We liked the Man on the Moon and Mizuki Matcha cocktails, both were very well made and looked beautiful. The Hojicha Tiramisu and Chocolates were very tasty, and I loved it to finish our meal off! Disappointed by the misrepresentations of the bartender and the policy pricing . My friend and I decided on a night on the town and wanted to try this spot out. When we arrived I ordered a signature drink listed on the menu. I had the Winter's River Clase Azul Reposado, Umeshu Hakatsuru, Ginger of the Indies, Grand Marnier, Agave, Yuzu, Lime. My friend wanted a shot of Japanese whiskey so she asked the bartender what the selections that the restaurant have . So the Bartender mentioned several brands and the price from 30 dollars and they mentioned the age of some of those styles of whiskey and some other pricing . My friend orders the 30 which in her mind she thought that meant 30 dollars in price for an ounce . Well unbeknownst to her it was 30 years in age and was 900 hundred dollars for a shot. For her entree she had the million dollar roll of sushi. The Millionaire Roll is Kagoshima A5 Wagyu, Royal Daurenki Caviar, Jumbo Lump Crab, Black Summer Truffle, Gold Flakes. I had the crab fried rice , the rice was not cooked well it was like chewing on confetti yes little plastic pieces. I was not impressed . The bill I got after a few of the drink I had was 180. My friends bill was 2300 hundred bucks yes . We were livid because why was the bill so high. We ask for the manager and when they come over they say it's not the policy if the company to divulge the price because they have had patrons complain and it seemed like they could not afford the item. I get that argument , to be questioned as if you cannot afford something is rooted in discrimination. However in the menu they do have piecing of select items and then why my friend asked what they had he lead with the pricing so when she said 30 she thought to include myself 30 was the price per ounce not the year which the year made the price 900 a shot on top of the entree had. The manager was somewhat helpful, and it wasn't that we couldn't afford the bill it was the principal about not being transparent . They have selective listing of prices and when asked you are to assume something is reasonably priced and it wasnt clear. Now the decor and the view and the atmosphere gave me the aristocratic feel but the pricing and policy practices make this a no for me . read more

Yesterday for lunch we ventured over to Moonraker inside of the Pendry Hotel at the Wharf. The waitress was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. Its cutsy and has amazing views of the Potomac. The menu is limited but the items we ordered were TASTY. We ordered the spirit free drink Yuzu 75 (not drinking alcohol these days), Tokyo Fried Chicken (seasoned and fried to the gods), Tempura Cauliflower (done just right), King Oyster Mushroom rolls (i wish it came with more than 2 rolls!) and the Chiffon Cheesecake. This is one of the most stunning bars in the wharf, with incredible views, drinks, food, and service. On weekends, they serve Japanese inspired kagori cocktails made with shaved ice. They make these table side with a unique contraption and drizzle alcohol, flavor, fruit, and more on top. Absolutely stunning views of the Potomac River and the Wharf from Moonraker! I've been for breakfast, happy hour and dinner and cannot recommend them enough. I stayed at the Pendry for my 40th birthday and ate at Moonraker every morning and just enjoyed the views. Everyone was very nice and I was always greeted with a smile. The bagel and lox was a favorite of mine because it was so fresh. I also tried the American breakfast which came with eggs and a choice of meat. Moonraker is perfect for a nice spring/summer day! This restaurant has one of the best views of DC especially at sunset! The music was good, our waitress was very friendly, attentive and helpful! I would 100% recommend for a super cute date night spot! In terms of food it was pretty good! They had some asian fusion small bites and sushi options. They definitely don't have an extensive menu, so this is a place you'd definitely go to for the ambience more than a real meal. Additionally, the menu was a little bit on the pricier side which is where they lost points for me. A roll of sushi and some fried rice was almost $70 which is a little bit absurd. We did have a dessert that was a unique take on cheesecake. It was delish. The service was amazing. Everyone was extremely nice. Food came out timely. The service definitely matched the prices! If you are not familiar with the area, the restaurant is located in Pendry Hotel (penthouse level). There is a parking garage. So I can't give 6 stars to one of the best view bar/restaurants in DC so you'll have to decide. We were greeted by Ahmed with a delightful sake tasting and showed promptly to our window table. (Outdoor seating is available by fire pits ) . Birkinesh guided us through our experience this evening. We started with 2 glasses of bubbly (top shelf) and explored the menu. We shared the crab roll, poke bowl and pork belly fried rice. All were about good. A word for it is Mumtaz. (Look that one up). Freshest ingredients, amazing views and exemplary service made for one our best dining experiences. And....they make a pretty darn good French martini..my wife's favorite. We stopped here Friday evening after grabbing a light bite at a nearby restaurant. There was a concierge or host at the bottom of the elevator routing foot track and managing the table seating. Here, there's no standing room so you either RSVP or waitlist. After discussing this arrangement with the staff, I totally like the idea of only seating-only accommodating so that it won't get toooo packed and you aren't having people reach over or stand over you while dining/drinking (the bar seats are event reserved). In comparison to the popular 12 stories, this rooftop top has a large outdoor space where it wraps around both sides of the small indoor bar area. It's quite large, with fire pits and games in one area--a true outdoor rooftop experience. The only bad part is there was quite a bit of flies outdoors, so you'd worry about it getting in your drink, food, or hair (bugs got in a drink and in his hair lol). But! They have bought some bug repellant tools so hopefully it functions much better as the summer goes on. Overall we were happy with the food and beverages and would absolutely return! The Chanan Pork Belly Fried Rice was absolutely tasty, I could not stop thinking about that dish for days! read more

Wanted to check this place out after seeing some of the pics on Yelp. Took me a while to find it as it's inside the hotel and doesn't have a street entrance. Walking into the hotel I was approached and asked how I could be helped. Told them I was looking for Moonraker and was escorted to the hostess. I then told her I could come back another day and she changed her tone and said she could probably fit me at the bar as I was solo. She had this annoyed look on her face and walks me to the elevator and swipe her badge to give me access to the penthouse level. At this moment I knew I should have looked at the menu prices lol. Here comes the moment I got annoyed, elevator doors open and the place is empty! Why was I such an inconvenience to be seated? I sat at the bar and proceeded to look thru the menu. This is more of a drinking spot with small plates but with big plate prices. Regardless I had my mind set on some items I wanted to try so I ordered my drink first. I went with the man on the moon which is their version of an old fashion but with Japanese whiskey. This drink was a 10/10! It was well balanced and very smooth. I could have easily drank two or three more. Why didn't I? Because this one drink was $22. For food I tried the tempura asparagus. This was a disappointment. The quantity was a good portion size for the price. However, the quality was not and flavor was not. The lemon whipped sauce had no flavor. The fried asparagus was also very plain. I then ordered the crispy rice, spicy tuna. This was plated very nice but was also very basic. You only get two pieces for $18. At Thai point the bartender could tell I wasn't impressed with my food. He asked if I wanted another drink and I told him no. I then told him I was still hunger and didn't want anymore food from here as it didn't meet my expectations. He then walked off and started making a shot and brought it to me. He said it was on him. The shot was very good. I asked him what was it and he responded "it's my own creation" I then asked what's in it and his response was "it's a secret". I love a good rooftop and Moonraker is definitely a GOOD rooftop! Located on top of the new DC waterfront Pendry Hotel, Moonraker gives you a sense of exclusivity. With it's own door person at the elevator to check you in, Moonraker absolutely requires a reservation.. so no walk-ins! I hear, even if you only want bar service, it can be a hassle without a reservation. Although we went on a chilly evening, the views from the wall to ceiling windows were awesome. The interior is a bit smaller than I had imagined, however, they have ample seating outside, so that's where I'll be dining the next time I visit in the VERY near future! :) Moonraker is an Asian Fusion restaurant, which intrigued me even more, being a sushi lover.
