Loved the vibe. It's a cute date or drinking spot. Quite small so I would make a reservation to be safe. Since it seems fairly new, the crowd was light when I went but I presume it will pick up. It's a lounge atmosphere with dim lights and dark backdrop so a cute date option. Music is house / pop. It's like dinner in a speakeasy! The sushi was delicious but they stop serving entrees after 10! Drinks were also delicious and there was a belly dancer on the Saturday I went! That was fun! Service was good except the lady at the door seemed stressed out when I asked for seating without a reservation. She said they were booked up and couldn't guarantee me a table in 30 mins as I was waiting for someone even though there was ample seating available. As soon as my party walked in around 10, and they asked, we got seated. It was weird. Stressed or not, as the 'face/greeter' of the restaurant, she should be more inviting / courteous to patrons. The manager (he seemed like it) was very friendly and thoughtful on the floor and made up for what she lacked.

KATA is a sheek and sexy spot that I have been looking forward to coming to once I heard of its opening. The vibe is elevated and effortless, perfect for a night out with friends or date night. I started with the tempura veggies, which were light and crispy, though I was surprised they didn't automatically come with a dipping sauce. Once we requested it, the flavors really came alive. Definitely recommend asking for the sauce upfront. For my main, I had the sea bass with wasabi mashed potatoes. The fish was cooked well, and the wasabi mash added a subtle, flavorful kick. Service was pretty good! Our server was attentive, friendly, and checked in with us regularly without being intrusive. I also loved the entertainment. A live fire dancer performed during dinner, which added an extra layer to the already dope vibe. My only feedback is that toward the end of the night, when we were ready to order dessert, we were informed that only sushi and small bites were available due to a menu change after a certain time. It would've been nice to get a heads-up earlier so we would have had the chance to order dessert before the menu switched over. Overall, KATA delivered a great experience with good food, drinks, and a vibrant atmosphere!

Kata is everything you want and expect from a new restaurant in a trendy part of DC. The Asian fusion restaurant offers bold flavors, gorgeous décor/design, and a vibe that makes you feel like you've been taken to a unique getaway. My friends and I went on a Friday evening and the energy was grown and sexy. The space is modern and moody, with sleek lighting, a trendy playlist/ music, and just the right buzz from the crowd. The live fire dancer performance right in the middle of dinner was great! It added a dramatic, almost cinematic twist to the night that totally elevated the experience. Everyone had their phones out--and for good reason. It felt like dinner and a show in one. As for the food, overall it was fresh, beautifully plated, and full of flavor. I especially loved the tempura vegetable sushi and the teriyaki glazed duck breast. The cocktails were equally tasty, and included well-balanced and creative drinks. The service was friendly and efficient, even with the packed house. Our server kept things flowing without making us feel rushed, which I appreciated. If you're looking for a place to celebrate something special or have a night out with your good friends, Kata delivers the full package - ambiance, performance, and food with presentation that's worth posting.

Mmm, KATA is just a whole vibe!! Heard about KATA being new to the city, so made reservations for HH after work. Walking on the street, it is hard to find; however, after talking with the sweet bartender, I found out KATA is a speakeasy - so, got it! Upon entering the moody aesthetic, it makes you feel like you're in another country. Good music was playing as well. Their new HH menu is BOMB - a dumpling plus a sushi roll for $15?! Uh yeah! Cocktails, too, under the HH menu are $10. I enjoyed their beef dumpling (soft and sweet outer layer with seasoned beef filling) and their firecracker roll. For drinks, I enjoyed their Lemon Drop and Espresso Martini (both were okay). Oh, and for dessert, I throughly enjoyed their Banana Cheesecake Cookie Mousse Pie - mmm sooooo good! I tried my co-workers Sticky Mango Rice and boy was that good, too! Can't wait to return to enjoy other menu items! The bartenders were super sweet, friendly, and were knowledgeable about items on the menu, and I loved sitting at the bar watching them make drinks! The hospitality was superb!

I'll start by saying that when I joined a couple of girlfriends here on a Thursday night, I didn't realize the restaurant had only been open for a few weeks. With that in mind, I want to give them grace as there were definitely a few kinks still being worked out, but that's to be expected for a new establishment. The owner came around to each table and was genuinely open to feedback, which we really appreciated. If we were rating purely on ambiance and drinks, I'd say this place is closer to 4 stars. The interior is super cute, stylish, and ideal for a girls' night out or pre-event cocktails. It's a bit on the smaller side, so seating felt a little tight. For reference, we came on a night there was a Caps game at Capital One Arena next door. Definitely something to keep in mind as parking was limited and expensive due to the event, so rideshare is probably your best bet. As for the seating, our party of three was initially placed at a small round table, but we asked to move to a nearby rectangular one, which worked out much better. The plates are regular size even though the menu focuses on small bites and tapas, so a little more table space made a big difference. Food-wise, the single large dumplings (beef, pork, and chicken) were tasty and sharable. Of the three sushi rolls we tried, the Mango Tango and Tempura Vegetable were solid choices, while the Firecracker roll didn't quite hit the mark for us, so we sent it back. For the tapas, we sampled the miso garlic sea bass, Thai pesto risotto, and the Szechuan peppercorn filet mignon. The sea bass was a bit underwhelming, and the risotto didn't quite land with my friends. The filet mignon, however, was flavorful, though it had to be sent back once to get the temperature right. Once corrected, it was definitely a highlight. One note: our reservation was at 7 p.m., and even with daylight still outside, the DJ's music was very loud, making conversation a bit difficult. This might be part of the atmosphere they're aiming for, but it's worth knowing if you're looking for a quieter experience. Overall, I think this place has great potential. It's a fun spot for cocktails and vibes, especially if you're in the area. I'd give them a bit more time to settle in, but I wouldn't rule out returning in the future as they continue to refine their experience.

Good drinks and an intimate vibe when you walk inside. The bar is very aesthetic but you are paying more for the vibe of the restaurant than the food I would say. Sushi was nothing special but still an enjoyable experience. Also tried the crème brûlée and it didn't really taste like crème brûlée.

Kata is very cute. Perfect for date night. They even have a private room for small parties. The service was ok. The sushi limited and it is pricy. I did enjoy the spicy tuna roll and my friend enjoyed the roll the mango tango she ordered. While the sushi was good the price point is inflated for such basic rolls. I can't say that I would go back but it was definitely worth experiencing.

Sea bass is naturally a delicious fish, but I was very disappointed with this order. Is this truly the best your chef can offer? The dish was poorly executed, served with mashed potatoes that were completely flavorless. Overall, an extremely disappointing experience , Cocktails price is 20+++ til 24$ I thought im drinking in NY the selection is quite limited. While the food itself is reasonably priced, the cocktails and beers are surprisingly expensive, which made the overall experience feel less worthwhile I was very disappointed with the sea bass dish -- so much so that I didn't even feel like taking a photo for my review

design details are sexy AF- totally the Burns Brothers- expect nothing less from them.

It was a beautiful night at Kata--everything about this spot is 5 Star. From the warm hospitality to the stunning design, thoughtful service, gorgeous plates, and craft cocktails that hit just right--this place delivers. The Burns Brothers are off to a strong and soulful start with this project. Located right on the corner of 6th & F St NW, Kata brings a much-needed glow to downtown D.C. Hope y'all get a chance to stop by, sip something great, and support good people doing great things. xo, ‍Chef Lara™

Lmaaaooo we came in expecting a fire show because of Kata's posts on instagram. We asked the bartender, he laughed and said "Nah, but ima really advocate for it tho" . The sushi taste like I made it and I've made sushi two times in my life. It fell apart in my soy sauce. The rice is hard, grainy. Nice mirrors and LED lights tho. And the service was coo

The ambiance and aesthetic of Kata is stunning. It's modern, sleek, and perfect for a chic night out. The service was excellent; the staff was incredibly attentive and made sure I felt well taken care of throughout the evening. As for the food, the sea bass and mashed potatoes were delicious, though I was expecting more of a wasabi kick in the mash--it wasn't noticeable. The chicken dumpling was flavorful and beautifully presented. The drinks, however, were just okay. They leaned a bit too sweet for my taste, and the espresso martini, while served in an elegant glass, didn't leave much of an impression in flavor or presentation. The dessert was the true standout. The banana crumble cookie pie was phenomenal! Perfectly textured, not overly sweet, and felt like the cherry on top of the meal. Overall, the vibe and food were worth the visit. I'd definitely come back with a friend. Update: Never received my $25 back from the reservation.

Food and service was good before our show. We will come back. The ambience was great.

Kata really missed the mark! I'll start by saying the tables there weren't situated for our party of 9. We were using the cocktail tables for a full service dinner. The chicken dumpling wasn't flavorful and included a milk based sauce that wasn't listed on the menu. The cocktails weren't great and for $24 it should be mixed proportionally. The little things that they need to work on ultimately add up.
