We had a joint early birthday at Jinya, this was my first time at the Union Market location. We sat at the communal table as that was their largest space for a party of 5z As usual the ramen was delicious, the chicken ramen is always my go to as well as the salmon poke tacos. Our server overheard our birthday cheers and surprised us with birthday crepes, a sweet ending to another delish time at Jinya. The service at Union Market was thoughtful and we all enjoyed our fav items.
Went here on a whim because I was craving ramen and the place looked like it had a nice vibe from the outside. The lighting is low, which makes it a good spot for a date or a chill dinner. I sat at the bar area, which actually overlooks the cooking station. Service was fine, nothing bad, nothing over-the-top. I ordered the JINYA Chicken Ramen, which is usually my go-to at any ramen spot, so I had a lot to compare it to. The broth was a little mild at first, so I tried to doctor it up. The condiments they had out weren't really my usual choices. I normally reach for sesame oil, vinegar, or even a little hoisin, but they didn't have those. There was dumpling sauce, something that looked like a chili garlic sauce (but wasn't quite), and one other option. That said, interestingly enough, the next day the broth tasted way more flavorful. The chicken, though, was really good. Chicken in ramen can sometimes be dry or bland, but this was moist and very tender, which I appreciated. Another thing to note that I liked was that you can get free noodles if you have broth left over! I also ordered the dragon fruit fizz, and it was delicious and smelled amazing. One glass gave me a slight buzz, but mostly it was just a really good drink. Bonus points for location. It's right across the street from a free three-hour parking garage, which is always a win. There's also an upstairs portion to this restaurant, which I didn't see. Overall, I'd come back if I was in the area and in the mood for ramen.
JINYA's Premium Red Tonkotsu Ramen delivers a rich, creamy pork broth with a deep umami flavor and a satisfying spicy kick that builds with each bite. The noodles are perfectly firm, soaking up the bold broth, while the tender chashu and fresh toppings add great texture and balance. Compared to a previous experience at another Jinya location in VA where the quality felt inconsistent, this visit really showed a return to form -- the flavors were deeper, the broth hotter, and the overall execution and not to mention service was superb. The service was attentive and efficient, with staff checking in just enough without being intrusive. The ambiance felt modern, with warm lighting and a sleek, industrial design that makes it a great spot for both casual dinners and relaxed date nights.
Dining with Dogs Restaurant! While enjoying my meal, management sat 3 females with a dog right beside me. I am highly allergic to dogs, so I notified management (Juan). His resolution was to move me....what? I'm sitting here about to enjoy my meal and you just sat them. He explained that if he move her the dog dandruff would be throughout the restaurant. She already walked the dog to the restroom, so everyone was exposed. This was my favorite ramen place, but not anymore. I refuse to dine with dogs and get sick. Do better Jinya.
Service was good and friendly. Extremely disappointed that they no longer offer rice(gluten-free) noodles.
Came to redeem an expiring birthday reward, so dined at a pretty late hour close to closing. The staff was very quick in bringing out my order thankfully, but you could tell they were ready to close down for the night. I ordered one of the vegetarian ramen options and of course my birthday reward dessert of matcha tiramisu. I was surprised by how onion dominate the ramen dish was, but the broth was incredible and made up for the other overpowering toppings. The matcha tiramisu was different; a very pretty presentation but the taste wasn't what I was expecting of a tiramisu. Definitely matcha dominate. I wish there was a bit more espresso taste. The union market location is tucked away from the market in one of the side retail bays. Easy to walk right past it. The ambiance is dark and trendy; I like the bar seating for solo dining. I'll have to come back to try the Happy Hour specials.
I came here for my brother's birthday on a random Friday evening with his wife and kids. The menu isn't bad but most of everything on it. It's very flavorful. I'm not a Ramen person, but I was able to put together a couple of side items that I enjoyed everything that I had. My brother is a very big Ramen person. I had some of his as well as some of my mothers and it was so good. The bathrooms were clean the vibe gives a very trendy, but laid-back kind of vibe. I did order a lemon drop. My lemon drop came out as a shot so if you do drink lemon drops or favorite specialty martinis, make sure that your specific that you wanted a martini and not a regular shot. The waiter was very nice to have my drink turned around and changed it into a martini however it was very bitter, and I did have to get some simple syrup to add to it. for Friday when we visited, it was not very busy. That waiter was very attentive to us, but I think that's because the restaurant was on it slower end. It was my first time in DC so sorry I am not familiar with DC restaurants but I would recommend coming back here with my brother next time I visit
Yes it's chilly outside... but I have the perfect remedy for the cold weather ? It's a must that you try a bowl of the Ramen soup at JINYA. Not only will it instantly heat you up, but your taste buds will be forever grateful because their soup is absolutely delicious and bursting with flavor. I'm 100% making this my go-to spot when I'm looking for a good spicy broth to kick start my day.
We ordered several things but I only was able to taste my dish. My friend got the Tonkatsu Red which seemed to be a great choice as she loved it. My other friend ordered the Beef Birria ramen dish which she also thought was great. I ordered the Spicy Chicken ramen bowl and between the options: Mild, Spicy, and Hot - I got Spicy and while the broth was flavorful, it was not spicy. Additionally, I got about three cuts of chicken. The chicken was super flavorful but I wish I got more meat. Additionally, the seasoned egg cost extra for the Birria and Chicken bowls. I enjoyed the meal but wish there were additional toppings in the bowl and they did not cost extra money for each. My bowl only came with green onions, shoots, and spinach.
I wanted to really be impressed with this ramen spot as I hoped to be but sadly not. When we arrived we told there was a 10 minute wait for 3 despite the community table being wide open. When we walked upstairs, there was another 2-3 tables open so I'm not sure if the wait was intentional, short staff, or what. I also ordered the spicy chicken ramen. I probably should have stuck with a pork broth because this one smelled like broiled chicken and needed additional season. On a positive note, service was quick and friendly, I love the decor. Maybe another day another menu item.
I am a ramen girl, through and through. Idc what season it is, imma eat some. So! Trying out this new spot in NoMa was a no brainer. Jinya has 2 floors, including a great sized rooftop for the warmer days. Their bar upstairs also includes a TV-- so you can catch your sports! The team is very friendly, helpful! They kept us feeling cared for and happy. The menu has so many delicious choices it's not easy to pick but you absolutely wont go wrong with the Crispy Rice with Spicy Tuna, Brussels Sprouts Tempura, Aburi Oshi-Sushi Salmon, Pork Chashu Bowl, JINYA Tonkotsu Black, and Yuzu Shio Delight to name a few of our faves so far (not all pictured, we've been multiple times!)
I had such an amazing experience at Jinya!! The customer service was amazing my server was Noel and she did a great job always checking on me and making sure I had what I need! The food was amazing and i'll definitely be back! The ambiance is amazing I love the way the store looks!
I love this location for one reason the service from Tesa! Every time I come here she always welcoming me. I love her energy! I came before with a server who had blonde hair I don't know her name but I will walk out if she comes to my table . She rushed me out made me feel like she didn't want to serve me. But I love Tesa! Thank you for your welcoming loving customer service please give her a raise!
When You're Not Feeling Your Best, Ramen Is the Answer! I wasn't feeling well and couldn't tell if I was coming down with a cold or if my body was simply telling me to SIT DOWN AND REST. Either way, I knew I needed something warm and comforting. Normally, I'd head to Mecha, which is just a few steps from my door, but this time I decided to walk a few steps farther and give the JINYA Ramen Bar in Union Market a try. I've been to the Logan Circle location several times, but this was my first visit to the one right in my neighborhood. I LOVE Tan Tan ramen, so naturally I ordered the Tan Tan Men. It comes with a savory chicken-soy broth with sesame, pork soboro, baby bok choy, shredded leek, chili sesame seeds, chili oil, and thick noodles. I don't eat pork, so I swapped the pork soboro for ground chicken, which they were able to accommodate with no problem. The woman at the hostess stand greeted me immediately when I walked in and handed me a menu after I told her I wanted to place a to-go order. She repeated my order back to me and was especially careful to confirm the swap from pork to chicken, which I really appreciated! And can we give a round of applause for the takeout packaging?! The broth came in its own deep, round container, while the noodles and other ingredients were packaged separately. The broth container is wide enough that you can pour everything directly into it and eat from there if you don't have a bowl available. Since I was headed home, I transferred everything into one of my own bowls, but I love that you don't need to. Most importantly, the ramen hit the spot! Warm, flavorful, a little spicy, and exactly what I needed while feeling under the weather. I stopped in around 1 p.m., and there were a few people dining inside. While I waited for my order, I also saw probably five people come in to grab takeout orders, so clearly the neighborhood knows what's up. The restaurant itself is a nice size, with traditional tables as well as ramen bar seating. Price-wise, JINYA is pretty comparable to the other ramen spots around the area, so nothing particularly surprising there. Overall, great service, delicious ramen, thoughtful takeout packaging, and the convenience of having it right in the neighborhood. I'll definitely be back -- although hopefully next time it's because I'm craving ramen and not because my body is begging me to go home and get in the bed. read more
Absolutely one of my favorite spots for my ramen fix! I love that they offer great lunch/brunch deals--nothing beats a big bowl of ramen with two delicious sides. My absolute go-to order is the Tonkatsu Ramen. For the sides, you can't go wrong with the crispy chicken, brussels sprouts tempura, spicy creamy shrimp tempura, or the crispy rice with spicy tuna. There is plenty of seating spread out over both downstairs and upstairs levels. Located right in the Union Market area, so parking can definitely be tough. Your best bet is to use the local garages, park at Union Market, or if it's way too busy, head across Florida Avenue to park in the residential area. Highly recommended! read more

Visited for lunch while in was in DC for work and was very happy with warm welcome, attentive service, and delicious ramen. We popped in right at the start of lunch rush and got two seats at the bar downstairs. We were able to order quickly and our food came hot and fresh. They had plenty of spicy sauces to elevate my already spectacular tantanmen to the level of spice I love. Would love to visit for dinner next time, they have a stunning upstairs space and second bar area. read more

I've had Jinya out in LA before and wasn't a fan, but decided to give it another shot while in DC--and I'm really glad I did. I ordered the same thing (Tonkotsu Black Garlic), but the broth here was way better. Rich, flavorful, and gave me a little flashback to ramen in Japan. Also grabbed an Old-Fashioned and loved that they actually took the time to smoke it right--nice touch. Shoutout to Brad and Xavier for the great recs and awesome service. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in town. read more
Came here after a workout class and enjoyed the Spicy Chicken Ramen! Tasty and flavorful. The ingredients were fresh and the broth was very comforting. This Jinya location is clean and spacious - great for parties of 2. The service was speedy and accommodating. Nice spot! read more
My wife and I took an impromptu date night to Jinya and had a great time. The service was good but could have been quicker. They did not seem busy but it felt slower that other Jinya's I've been to. The chicken was a bit too fried in my opinion but that Birria ramen was on point. My wife loves Jinya so we will most likely be back soon. read more

I believe this is the new location that opened up not too long ago in Union Market. To be honest, I had previous bad experiences with JINYA at their other DC location & one of their Houston, TX locations. I decided to give them a THIRD chance mainly because my friend wanted to come & invited me. The ambiance was pretty dark but allowed for natural lighting in the main dining area. They had the upper floor closed off for a private event. We met up & decided to order some bowls. My friend got the vegan ramen, in which he loved. I ordered the Spicy Tonkotsu bowl, which was pretty massive. Shockingly, it was pretty good. Was it the best ramen I ever had? No, but it was much better from my past experiences with other JINYA locations. We also had the salmon tacos (we ordered tuna, but apparently they didn't hear us?), and mimosas to have a brunch feel. I will say the service was kinda spotty. Sometimes, they would be quick, sometimes, the wait staff would be gone for a long time. I have seen some people have mixed reviews for this location and the other DC location. I think it's best to go yourself to be a better judge. I personally enjoyed it and will likely return again. This location is off the red line (NoMa) so it should be a relatively short walk, about 10 minutes. There's also hectic parking in the area if it isn't a busy day. read more

Appetizer: fried chicken. This was tender and crispy. I Liked the sauce with it and that it came with lemon. The batter was good. It was on the crispier and crustier side. The chicken also stood out because it was marinated and tenderized so it had lots of flavor under the crust. The salad and greens were good but onion dressing a little powerful. I got the recommended tonkotsu pork ramen. The noodles were really excellent and tasted great. The pork broth was really tuned to right mouth feel. It was less salty but super thick. The pork itself is good. The cut used had a great flavor that didn't get some of the "dirty" taste you sometimes get with this cut. Egg was good, a little runnier. And the shrooms were good and had good texture. Service was really good. It was by attentive and very fast. Upscale and nice ambiance. read more

The holy grail of ramen has finally made its way to Union Market and I'm so happy about it! Jinya has always been my favorite ramen restaurant so having one 5 minutes from my house is a God-send. I got my regular spicy ramen with a seasoned egg and crunchy onions. I also made it a combo meaning I got 4 pork gyoza on the side as well as a house salad. Zuri, my server, was so sweet and cute! It took a few tries but she got my bubble just right on top of my martini! And she was very knowledgeable about the drink menu. It was pretty quiet on the night I went but I'm sure it's packed on other nights. Now that it's colder out, they'll definitely see me more! read more
Brought my favorite foodie friend here for her birthday. I love the ambience. We sat at the bar because it was a birthday night and just the two of us. I like that they shout "Arigato" (thank you) as guests are leaving. The drinks at the bar were amazing... So was Shakir, our bartender for the night I don't care what your dining preferences... You absolutely have to have the eggplant dish. 5/5. We had the vegan Ramen, which was delicious... and the salmon sushi, which was really simply done, but I would've preferred without that creamy sauce on top. *Mind you, this is a chain, so don't expect dense, authentic Ramen. But the flavor was exactly what we wanted in just the right space... and we loved the plethora of vegan options. The highlight of the evening was one of the managers coming up and singing the Stevie Wonder happy birthday song with me to my girl... who is very shy and doesn't like to be signed to at all. Spent the evening of my birthday here. I love a dim lit spot ! Cool smooth vibe . Sexy vibe . Chill . Bartenders were so dope ! Kept us smiling and laughing . They sung the Stevie Wonder - Birthday song for me . Super shy . Now ramen is my soulmate THIS Ramen was soooooogooooood!! The whole vibe of that area is something else as is especially when it comes to food but listennnn go get you some ramen next time you're in dmv . They can't miss . read more

JINYA is hands down my go-to for mother-son dates, and it's not just because they have a vegan kids' meal that keeps King's egg and milk allergies in check. This time, we hit the Union Market location and snagged a prime parking spot right out front (a rare DMV miracle!). Perfect timing too--because my little date had knocked out in the car, so into the stroller he went while I walked in, already winning the day. We were greeted, seated immediately, and handed menus with a smile. My server, Jennifer, stopped by to introduce herself, but I was deep in "menu limbo," so she gave me some extra time. She had staff meeting duties anyway, so I didn't feel too guilty. Once the team meeting wrapped up, Jennifer returned, and I asked about the happy hour specials--because you know, it's 3-6 PM, Monday to Friday, and mama deserves a treat! She pointed me to the back of the menu and suggested the Malibu Sunrise, so I obviously ordered that, along with a salmon poke taco. The taco came out in a flash, packed with flavor like always, and then the Malibu Sunrise made its entrance--this drink was so pretty it practically glowed. And listen, it wasn't just looks--the taste? Divine. Whoever made it was doing the Lord's work, I'm telling you. For the main event, I went with the Chef's Special Tangy Shrimp Cilantro ramen. Shrimp were huge, and while the batter was battling with the broth and losing, the flavor still came through. Honestly, I was worried it wouldn't be as satisfying as my usual spicy chicken ramen, but this bowl came through with the same level of comfort and fullness. Right when I'm halfway through, my tiny date wakes up, hangry and ready to eat. I flag Jennifer down and order King's vegan kids' meal, along with water. I mentioned his allergies, and she confirmed they'd adjust the noodles accordingly--mom win! His ramen came out quickly, and he devoured it like a pro (after some solid noodle blowing to cool it down). He even alternated bites of his taco with ramen slurps, proving once again that this kid has taste. After requesting some to-go containers, we got the check, and I settled up. Now, I have to mention that when you walk in and out of JINYA, the whole team greets and bids you farewell in a language I'm not entirely sure of, but it's all part of the charm. It's loud enough that King woke up, and this is a kid who can sleep through a marching band! All in all, JINYA never disappoints--great food, great drinks, and great service with a few surprises along the way! read more

Never been to Union Market until I tried JINYA, the atmosphere gave elevated flair and I love how elegant it feels inside. It has a roof top with an amazing view . As a big fan of JINYA Ramen (especially the Orlando location), I was looking forward to visiting the D.C. spot during my trip--but unfortunately, this visit missed the mark across the board. We waited 35 minutes to be seated, and then another 10 minutes just to be acknowledged by a server after being shown to our table. When we finally got our drinks, the soda was completely flat, lacking any carbonation. The food didn't do much to redeem the experience. The ramen arrived cold, with broth that tasted like an old batch barely reheated. The dumplings were burnt on one side and somehow still cold in the center. Serving cold and overcooked food in the same dish is a tough combo to overlook. All in all, this visit was a letdown both in service and quality. I'm realizing that the service is not consistent here and can be hit or miss. I stopped in recently for lunch with friends. I ended up doing their brunch special ($45 with mimosas). I'm not sure that it's entirely a steal especially with how long it took you to get your drinks but worth it if you're hungry. I was not really a fan of the chicken appetizers .. I wish it came with a different kind of sauce. And it was really cold in the restaurant the other day, almost as if they didn't want to turn the heat up. We had our coats on for a while before finally taking them off 15 minutes into sitting down. read more
The ramen here is absolutely delicious and so flavorful. I tried the vegan harvest and my friend got the spicy umami miso. The portions were perfect and everything was flavorful. I want to come back and try some small plates as well! read more
