Mecha is by far my new favorite ramen spot! I can't believe I haven't done a review already. First things first, you have to get the edamame. This is the most uniquely prepared edamame I've ever had. It's packed with herbs and spices and so flavorful that you won't go back to regular edamame after trying it here. I've ordered quite a few items off the menu, and I've been equally satisfied every time. I've had the Pho Ga and the Shoyu Paitan...both were so delicious. They come with extras so you can customize your bowl with hoisin, chili flakes, and more, which I love. One time I went with a friend who's pescatarian, and we ordered the Cha Ca La Bong (catfish). It was incredibly flavorful and filling. It's served cold, a delicious sauce. But don't let this cold dish fool you ...it does not disappoint. We also ordered the General Tso shrimp, and I got the sweet-and-sour spareribs. Everything was delicious. As for drinks, I don't quite remember which frozen one I ordered, but it didn't give much of a buzz. The regular alcoholic drinks, though? They definitely got the job done. Every time I've gone, the service has been excellent. Everyone is welcoming, smiling, and genuinely seems proud to serve you. I also appreciate that if you don't finish your ramen, they box it up thoughtfully, packing the broth and noodles separately so it stays fresh. Highly recommend! read more

Mecha Noodle Bar was pretty good. I visited on a Thursday at 6 PM and it was about 1/3 full. The place is very casual. Many of the tables have benches on one side and small stool on the other; it's fine, but not the most comfy. Tables are also loaded with the basic chopsticks, napkins, menus, and condiments you need. We tried the Kale Salad, Red Oil Dumplings, Firecracker Wings, Spicy Miso 2.0 ramen, and Tonkotsu 3.0 ramen. The kale salad was fine but a little lame. The wings weren't "firecracker" -- not spicy at all -- but had a very nice dry rub and smoky flavor (very similar to the wings at Succotash). The dumplings were enormous and pretty good, but I wish the sauce stuck to the dumplings better. Ramen was also good; I preferred the Spicy Miso over the Tonkotsu. Service was a little too basic. We had to flag down a waiter to get water, water wasn't refilled, the check and pay pad weren't picked up quickly, and I got the wrong ramen order. read more

People didn't used to come to this neighborhood for food and even after union market came, it was not a place for a nice sitdown meal. But this Ramen bar along with several other restaurants have arrived and were bustling. It would've been hard to get a table, but I snagged a bar seat for a pre-movie meal. They had a couple of vegetarian options, but the idea of a curry laksa with basil oil sounded mouthwatering. The ginger beer I got to open head quite a kick and came with a large piece of candy ginger as well. I had thought about a Boba tea, but I was not disappointed in this. The Ramen was excellent. Spicier than expected with a good variety of vegetables. Being seated where I could watch, the preparation was inspiring as well. I went to Mecha by myself and it ended up being one of those meals that just lands perfectly. I ordered the General Tso's shrimp and it was phenomenal. Crispy, flavorful, and exactly what I wanted after craving shrimp and Asian inspired food. Every bite was balanced and satisfying and honestly just made me happy. This is the kind of dish you keep thinking about after you leave. I also ordered the In My No Drinking Era mocktail with pineapple, ginger, Thai mango, citrus, yuzu, and club soda, and it felt genuinely celebratory even without alcohol. Perfect timing since I had just put in my two week notice and was very much in a reflective but excited mood. The service really stood out. Mecha noodle bar is conveniently located in Union market. The menu is quite extensive, with lots more options than your traditional ramen spot. I ordered the spicy miso and added an egg. My bowl came out surprisingly fast. I was worried it wouldn't be good with how quickly it came out, but I was pleasantly surprised. The food was hot and the broth was delicious. The noodles were perfectly cooked and I loved the taste of each of the ingredients in the bowl. I decided to hit Mecha as my final Restaurant Week meal and the lunch was incredible! $25 for an app, entree, and drink was a steal. I tried the house limeade which was excellent. For my app I had the Korean fried chicken bao. The bun was so soft and fluffy and the crispy chicken was perfect with the pickled veggies. Only one piece per order but I certainly did not leave hungry! I tried the coconut curry laksa as well which was really good. I wish the fried tofu had a little more crisp/seasoning but it was a solid dish overall! The noodles were also really great. We had an AMAZING time at Mecha NoodleBar! My first impression was an upbeat and fresh vibe as we walked in. Their happy hour was just ending but we will definitely return to get some of our favorites and a few items we didn't get to try. STANDOUT ramen spot! My bf and I were craving ramen during our visit to Union Market and I'm so glad we chose Mecha. I went with the Shoyu Paitan and it was probably the best chicken ramen I've had. Wow I'm impressed by how delicious the food here is, especially for the price. A friend and I had dinner at Mecha, and even with large entrees, a drink each, an appetizer and a 20% tip, our dinner was about $50 each (which is a good deal in this city). The options are decent for people with dietary restrictions (things are clearly labeled, but there could be even more options!). We decide on a few different items: Kale salad: I'm not a raisin kind of girl but I must say this kale salad hit allllll the right spots! I live across the street from Mecha and it's been on my list for a while but there are so many options in the neighborhood that I am just getting around to it - five months after moving here. We went for a late lunch which was just in time for their happy hour and I considered us lucky lol. We wanted to try everything but settled on a few options to share - miso Caesar salad, wings, crab Rangoon dip, and kimchi fried rice. Everything was delicious! I did not enjoy my experience. I had a reservation on a cold Friday night and my party was seated in the front of the restaurant near the drafty door. It was so cold we left our coats on. A member of my party asked if we could sit at a table closer to the back of the restaurant since we could clearly see open tables. We were told a bit aggressively that if we wanted to move we could cancel our reservation and be put on the walk in list. We felt rushed with the staff constantly attempting to clear our table but also confused because they were super slow bringing out our drinks and food. We all agreed that this probably isn't an establishment we'd visit again. We all had the shoyu ramen with corn and chili oil, in my no drinking era mocktail, and Vietnamese coffee. We shared the edamame and kimchi fried rice. The mocktails were not consistently made. Mine was sweeter but the other two at the table were more acidic. The coffee tasted like sweet dirt. We had to swat away flies and bugs the ENTIRE meal! It was absolutely crazy and honestly disgusting because I thought it would land in my food. We tried this noodle bar on a Saturday lunch. I usually stay clear of Asian noodle fusion places that do everything AND pho. But I'm glad we tried this. We did not get pho, and saw other diners around us that did, but my guess is that they do a pretty good job of that but probably not quite as authentic and full choice as a dedicated Vietnamese place. We tried four different noodle bowls. Spicy miso with pork belly Spicy beef ramen with Szechuan broth Chicken ramen Tonkatsu ramen with pork belly All come with a whole soft cooked egg that was done nice except the miso. I only tried the spicy miso and a piece of pork belly from the Tonkatsu. The pork was good in a large thin slice. The miso was really spicy and frankly in my opinion it ruined what a good loaded miso soup can be. When I make it at home with tofu and greens and seaweed I usually put togarashi pepper mix but this was an overbearing level of spice. Ironically my wife ordered that and liked it yet couldn't finish and she doesn't like spicy food like I do. The tonkatsu and chicken ramen seemed favorable and they liked it. The ramen noodles here are thinner than the type I like but really cooked to a proper tenderness. Finally my spicy beef ramen.... I usually wouldn't roll the dice with Japanese noodles cooked with a Szechuan sauce as I'm a purist in both. But it was actually really good! And spicy! Even made me perspire at first. Beef fairly generous and cooked well. Egg was a nice touch and lots of spinach. I'd order this again over what else I saw and experienced here but would like to try their smalls like a smash burger, spicy tuna hand roll etc. Service was good, quick, and thoughtful. This is by far the best ramen place in town! I usually get the spicy beef ramen bowl and add the braised brisket which are thick pieces of tender meat. This is a descent amount of food, so 2 people can comfortably share this and try an appetizer or two (They have half off appetizers for happy hour from 3pm-6pm Monday through Friday). It's a nice ambiance inside and has great customer service. Will definitely continue going there, especially now that it's colder. read more

I started off by ordering what I was thought was a frozen pina colada. After the order was in, I was then told that it was non-alcoholic but cost the same as the alcoholic frozen beverages (which I thought was odd). The drink--which was in front of me in the slushie maker--didn't come out until after I was already eating my ramen. Not bad at all, just a little one note. My friend enjoyed the flank steak pho. We also ordered the mushroom dumplings as a starter. The filling was flavorful however I was not a fan of the brown butter miso, I thought the dumplings needed a more acidity. They were also fried and I would have preferred steamed. What I loved is that you can get spiked boba teas. Not the best boba I've had in union market but I like having the option. Our server was Keondre and he was very attentive and friendly.
