    SPICY MISO, SHOYU, TOMATO CURRY

i liked the spicy miso ramen!! we tried spicy miso, shoyu ramen and curry ramen. the AC is blasting here and you won't be able to get seated until full party is there.

Back again a year later and Daikaya is still one of the best bowls of ramen! I went with the spicy miso this time and it was excellent. Not super hot, just enough to have some flavor and warm you up.

Daikaya, which means "big cooking pot" is a modern ramen spot in DC that serves as a solid lunch option. A few things to note for a smoother visit: -Due to frequent foot traffic and limited seating, Daikaya enforces a strict policy that does not allow holding tables for incomplete parties (even for 2 people). -Parties of 2 are typically sat next to each other not across from one another (even upon request). -Pork is the primary protein choice (no chicken option available). -Stools are fairly short. Now! I do want to mention that aside from the things to keep a heads up on, I did really enjoy how fresh the ramen noodles tasted! The noodles were certainly the star of the show. The food comes out fairly quick. I'd say they create an environment where you can grab a quick yet filling bite to eat and then head on your way to explore more of the city. If I do go back, it would be for a quick bite at the bar or an order of takeout. Overall, with managed expectations, it can be a pretty tasty option.

What could be better than a warm bowl of ramen on a frigid winter night. Located right across the street from the stadium, Daikaya is a poppin spot that looks like it's alway busy (for good reason). There's usually a little bit of a wait for seating but it's worth it. Sat at the counter right next to all chef action. Bowl after bowl of delectable ramen being made. Ended up opting for the spicy miso bowl. Rich flavor with a kick on the back end. Really hit the spot. I usually don't eat the egg but this egg was perfect with the ramen. It was fun sitting down, engaging with the wait staff and the other patrons.

Fast service and straight to the point. You can see the workers scooping broth and putting together the bowls and they have counter seats plus tables! Spicy miso - has a good kick! Noodles pick up broth well but overall heavy which is Sapporo style just not my style 2.75/5 Shoyu - surprisingly it's heavy too 2.5/5

My coworkers and I came to Daikaya after our holiday party and were quickly seated in the far back where they have the large table. The menu is limited to several ramens, extra toppings and a few side options. Most of us ordered the Shoyu, which I did as well. The waiter came through and checked on us, taking our order and bringing out the ramen quickly. It was really good, I'm not a HUGE fan of shoyu ramen (personally, my fave is tonkotsu broth) but this was really good. The gyoza was also really good and tasted freshly made. The waiter also brought us a pitcher of water to serve ourselves. The decor is super cute with nods to JPOP bands, historical sites and pop culture in Japan across the wall. Overall it was a good experience, reasonably priced and good service! It's definitely somewhere I'd try again.

One of my favorite ramen spots in the city! I usually get the veggie ramen when I come here because I rarely eat pork, but this time I decided to try the spicy miso ramen. It definitely did not disappoint! I decided to add veggies and corn to mine. I definitely will be returning when I'm back in town! The stag is friendly and the food come out pretty quickly as well. All in all it was a great experience. Hope this helps!

If you are visiting the Izakaya on the second floor- make reservations through their website- they have small plates. We weren't 100% sure of our plans so we opted for the 1st floor which is Ramen and had to wait quite a while (first come first served on a Friday) and it was quite cramped. The first floor was quite small with limited seating. The service was good though! I haven't been the biggest fan of Japanese ramen but have been coming around lately. The spicy miso was pretty good and my friends all got the Shoyu and ate all of it. All in all- seemed very popular. I spent about $27 for ramen including tax and tip.

I came here with a friend for a later dinner on a Thursday. It's a super small shop, a few booths and two communal tables as well as a few bar seats. I think there's a larger izakaya restaurant upstairs but we didn't investigate. We waited for only a couple minutes before getting seated but I can definitely see it having a long wait on the weekends. I ordered the shio and it was excellent. I'm not the biggest ramen person but the noodles tasted fresh and chewy! I really liked the ground pork and chashu toppings. I had no leftovers and thought the portion size was perfect! My friend tried their tomato curry special and enjoyed it as well (although she said she couldn't really taste the tomato). Service was really fast and our food came out quickly. Definitely intrigued by the izakaya menu so will have to return!

I came here with 2 other friends after the Caps game and it was such a great option. Either make a reservation in advance or come super early if there is a game. The food comes out super fast, drinks a little slower. Good vibes inside and cute decor - reminds me of Japan. The ramen is pretty good and the spicy miso is SUPER spicy.

RAMEN SNOB ALERT! Having spent 5 years in Japan we are always on the hunt for authentic Japanese ramen. This spot ranks right up there! Wait was a little longer than usual due to there being a concert across the street, but it was still only 20-30 minutes. The hostesses are AWESOME! Even with a line out the door! The place itself is small, very Japan-esque. Smells coming from the open air kitchen flow out the front door and they are mouth watering scents! We sat in the back for our party of 5, which is a very secluded back of the restaurant spot. Very cool Japanese wall photos. Our server Carl was on point with the orders. You don't think he's listening because the pens not moving but he got every order on point! The ramen itself is absolutely delicious! Gyoza as well, very crispy. The ramen noodles are flown in from Japan, and they are the BEST! My buddy and I got the Super Spicy and I'm telling you, I love spice but this is next level. Ghost peppers, Carolina reapers and 18 other peppers.... WE ASKED! I will say, I finished my whole bowl. After the initial shock and awe, it was ok. Couple others in the group got the Shoyu and they loved it! All in all, this place is legit authentic ramen. Will definitely be back!

Overall great spot for a good bowl of ramen. We came at a busy lunch hour with a large group of people and they were able to seat us quickly, within 5 minutes. Menu variety is great and the descriptions of each bowl were very helpful. I found the ramen broth a little on the salty side, and I believe I was missing the bonito flakes on the Bonito Red Miso bowl. The ramen noodle itself had very good texture and flavor.

This ramen had me reminiscing over my time spent in Japan. The whole experience felt familiar, from the long table seating to the busy chefs to the body and bite of the noodles. It's nice to have such a great ramen place in DC! I went for an early dinner on a weekday, so there was no wait. It's small inside with only a few tables, and most of the seating is communal. You can see the chefs at work behind the bar. Service was quick and very nice. My ramen came to me pretty quickly and was piping hot! I paid extra for an onsen egg which was so worth it! I also had the dumplings which were crispy and good. Definitely one of the best ramen places in the city!

Is the outdoor seating dog friendly?

    Yes

Can you take your food to go instead of dining in?

    Yes

    Any gluten free ramen?

No. Not that I know of.

Whats the best ramen on the menu, trying this place out tomorrow for date night?

Spicy Miso hands down. It's not very spicy at all. Ask for mild if you don't like too much heat! My husband gets the Shoyu but liked mine better. Whatever you get it will be delish! The potstickers are very tasty as well.

    Is it good?

Yes! I wouldn't wait an hour though. The wait can get pretty long.

Is parking near the restaurant difficult?

Parking is difficult. Street parking is the best option since the public parking in the back will.most likely be filled.

We got there nice and early on a Friday to enjoy the happy hour which is available from 4-6 on weekdays. As a part of happy hour they had several cocktails and small bites for $10 or less. I had the pumpkin spice spritz and an order of the fried chicken bites - both were really really good. I'd order both items again. For awareness, they limit dining in to about an hour and a half - because the restaurant is fairly small, they want folks to make their seats available for other guests pretty quickly. They weren't rude about enforcing this time limit, but they definitely tell you up front and quickly gather your orders/plates to help move you though the meal quickly. This is a nice date spot - it's coziness would make for the perfect ambiance in you're looking to grab a bite with that special someone. Pro tip: Be careful not to walk past it! They come with extras so you can customize your bowl with hoisin, chili flakes, and more, which I love. One time I went with a friend who's pescatarian, and we ordered the Cha Ca La Bong (catfish). It was incredibly flavorful and filling. It's served cold, a delicious sauce. But don't let this cold dish fool you ...it does not disappoint. We also ordered the General Tso shrimp, and I got the sweet-and-sour spareribs. Everything was delicious. As for drinks, I don't quite remember which frozen one I ordered, but it didn't give much of a buzz. The regular alcoholic drinks, though? They definitely got the job done. Every time I've gone, the service has been excellent. Everyone is welcoming, smiling, and genuinely seems proud to serve you. I also appreciate that if you don't finish your ramen, they box it up thoughtfully, packing the broth and noodles separately so it stays fresh. Highly recommend!

We tried the Kale Salad, Red Oil Dumplings, Firecracker Wings, Spicy Miso 2.0 ramen, and Tonkotsu 3.0 ramen. The kale salad was fine but a little lame. The wings weren't "firecracker" -- not spicy at all -- but had a very nice dry rub and smoky flavor (very similar to the wings at Succotash). The dumplings were enormous and pretty good, but I wish the sauce stuck to the dumplings better. Ramen was also good; I preferred the Spicy Miso over the Tonkotsu. Service was a little too basic. The condiments they had out weren't really my usual choices. I normally reach for sesame oil, vinegar, or even a little hoisin, but they didn't have those. There was dumpling sauce, something that looked like a chili garlic sauce (but wasn't quite), and one other option. That said, interestingly enough, the next day the broth tasted way more flavorful.
