    Chicken Tokyo Dashi

I love Rakuya, it is always such a hit and exactly what I'm in the mood for. I came with two friends and we had a great time. We got to the restaurant before our reservation and ordered drinks at the bar. It's a mid-sized bar where you can order food or drinks, and the bartender was very nice. When we got to our table we split the tuna tartar, which was a good sized portion. It comes with a side salad, and gherkin pickles, which are surprising additions and while good, aren't necessary in my opinion. But the tuna was very good. For entrees I got the Tokyo Dash with udon noodles and chicken, and it is my absolute favorite dish. It's a HUGE portion that you can easily take home for leftovers. My friends got the Tan Tan ramen (which doesn't have broth) and sushi. Both spoke very highly of their dishes. I often visit Rakuya because it's consistent and always delicious.

One of the best bento spots in Washington, D.C. Each bento comes with several sweet, savory, and pickled accompaniments that pair perfectly with the fish or meat or vegetarian option of your choice.

Service was so friendly! It was a busy night and they still let us sit at the bar with no reservation. Food came quick for how busy it was and it was delicious!!

Such a cute little DC sushi joint!! As always, love when the staff is knowledgable about gluten free sushi options and when they carry gluten free soy sauce (so I don't have to bring my own) :) I thought the quality was great - so did my friend. Prices were also (somewhat) reasonable for DC, always a win. I do recommend a reservation, because it was pretty packed and there was a wait when we went.

Solid spot in Dupont with happy hour weekdays from 4-6 PM. We came around 7 PM on Friday and were able to sit at the bar (group of 4 but 2 were leaving at 7:30 PM). I got a hojicha latte for $5 that was good as well as the double salmon roll. My friend got the warm house sake, a volcano roll, and a red dragon roll. Everything was good and the pricing felt fair, especially considering the area.

Had a nice dinner here! Ordered a few sushi rolls which were pretty good, with the crunchy eel being my favorite. Also tried a cocktail, the Tokyo mule which was delicious! Service was very quick and friendly! Happy hour runs until 6 and was a pretty good deal with a lot of options.

The food here was good overall, but I have to say I did not like the way they do Tantan men ramen here. Tantan is my favorite ramen, but for some reason here, they basically only give you all the ingredients sitting in the oils but WITHOUT the broth. This is the only ramen on the menu they serve without broth and I can't understand why. I wouldn't order this one again if we were to go back here. The service was decent, no complaints. Bathroom doesn't have a changing table so good luck if you have a young child with you. The seating arrangements aren't bad and you get a nice view of the outer street.

One of our favorite Japanese and sushi spots in the city. Great weekly happy hour - my go to order is the crispy calamari, chicken karage, salmon avocado roll, and Seoul train roll (great spicy kimchee flavor). We are also fans of their brunch - a variety of Japanese brunch options are available in bento box and other formats with a variety of small plates. You can even add bottomless sangria and mimosas for $15 (one of the best prices in the city). Staff is always attentive, and great outdoor and indoor seating options.

I've been a fan of Rakuya for about six or seven years, ever since I moved to the area, and it's still one of my go-to spots for happy hour. Their sushi is always top-notch and offers great value. This past week, I went for dinner and tried the Tokyo Dashi with vegetables and tofu for the first time. It was delicious--flavorful but not overwhelming, and the noodles and veggies were perfectly balanced. The ambiance is cozy and cute, and it's super convenient being right off the Dupont metro. I'd definitely recommend it for a date night or a happy hour with friends!

3.5 Food is mid. I got the Black Cod Misozuke set, the Zen Refresher and the Ikura sushi. The quality and taste aren't bad but also not exactly that good. I expected more given the price. Service felt rushed but I don't think the staff wanted to come off as rude on purpose. I sat in the outdoor area. It's a nice spot.

I've always had a great time at Rakuya, and this time was no different. Actually if anything, it was better because we discovered their unlimited mimosa/sangria option. I got their udon/rice bowl combo that is truly just an unparalleled combo. I've previously had a second meal from leftovers, but I was so hungry, I finished the full platter, and it was so yummy. The mimosa/sangria offer was $15 for 90 minutes, and those glasses were fulllll. The staff were also so so kind and great. Consistently, . I would recommend making a reservation for dinner and Saturday brunch, but I haven't had an issue with Sunday brunch/lunch times!

Decent food, good outdoor seating area. The drinks were fine and the sushi didn't feel very fresh. The veggie tempura was surprisingly good!

Some friends and I grabbed some seats at the bar after attending an event at the hotel across the street. I was only stopping by briefly for a roll and a drink before heading off to another bar. The service was fast and I enjoyed both the roll and cocktail. I had the shrimp tempura roll and the lychee saketini. I would definitely come back for the full sit down experience.

I ordered takeout and the sushi was not very fresh, in small portions, and overall very lackluster. I would not order from here again.

Their appetizer game was fire though. I did several rounds of the ceviche, maguro avocado, pepper tuna tatami, yellowtail jalapeño, and everything was absolutely delicious. The ceviche was a standout--the mango added just the right touch of sweetness to balance everything out. Overall, the apps were super fresh and light, so I never felt weighed down even after multiple rounds. Honestly, I wish I lived closer to DC--I'd be here all the time.

We started with cocktails, and my mango margarita was huge and delicious, a great way to kick off the meal. Overall, the food was solid across the board. The truffle tuna sushi roll was the standout of the night and definitely worth ordering. One thing to note: all the portions are full-sized, which in my opinion defeats the purpose of an all-you-can-eat menu. I would have preferred smaller portions of just a few pieces so you can try more variety. Service was just okay. Our waitress had a difficult time understanding us, which made ordering a bit challenging at times. The ambiance also leaves something to be desired, it's fairly basic and doesn't add much to the dining experience. That said, if you're looking for an affordable spot with decent sushi and a fun unlimited option, Toryumon is a solid choice. I'm glad we tried it, though it's not a place I'd rush back to.

This time was a little different. I had the red dragon roll and I couldn't quite tell it's vegan and not actual dragon roll of some sort. And then I also tried the thousand layer potatoes, which was nice, but I don't know if I liked it that much. And I got the Unagi eggplant which was really really good. I also really like eggplant at baseline. Other people got the sprig and run drink (it's under free spirits and it's a mocktail) and they loved it. Two of my friends got the udon and mushroom - they loved it (clean bowls). So I enjoyed it but only for special occasions. It's not very affordable to come to Planta regularly you see (or maybe I just need to have a better paying gig hahah) ... a roll and a nigiri plate came out to be over $30 ... which is somewhat typical in the expensive city of DC. In the end, we all concluded Planta Bethesda has more options whereas this one is more Asian fusion type of food (which I love). But I'm still dreaming of that miso salmon tofu from Planta Bethesda (now a year later? Also higher end prices for me and can't afford to go too often). They do only have two bathroom individual stalls and for some reason it took a while for my friends to use the restroom (she said one person was trying on outfits in there?!) and it can get a little messy in there with the trash bin, but it probably isn't consistently so...

While we were there multiple larger parties arrived so it does look like they can handle the larger crowds. We were seated closer to the sushi bar/kitchen area but it appeared that there was a larger dining area on the other end of the restaurant. Food wise, i highly recommend the sweet shrimp and scallop sushi! The pieces melted like butter and tasted so creamy! The rice quantity is on the bigger side as well as the portions so be careful when ordering. The ramen was also a hit along with the aged tofu! Those were my top favorites!! Service was decent! Nothing over the top, our server checked in a few times, and the overall service wasn't too slow given the crowd. There is no dedicated parking lot so street parking is it for this area. My husband and I dined in for the first time today, and we were both very impressed with the atmosphere and friendly, attentive staff. Hayden was our server, and he showed exemplary hospitality skills. He made us feel welcome, checked in on us frequently without feeling overbearing, and made sure we knew the AYCE menu is double-sided. Speaking of, the AYCE is such a great deal! I used to live in Vegas, where AYCE sushi is very common. Unfortunately, for most of them, since the focus is on quantity, the quality suffers. This is not the case for Toryumon! Maybe it's because it isn't strictly an AYCE place. You can absolutely order items a-la-carte from their regular menu (as I had done previously for take-out). The items are exactly the same whether you order from the regular menu or the AYCE. Same quality, and, this is important, same size! Yes, you will receive a FULL-SIZED bowl of ramen if you order it from the AYCE menu. Not all of the menu items have descriptions, and I was surprised by some of them (not in a bad way, just wasn't what I was expecting), such as: The avocado salad. I was expecting it to be cubes/chunks of avocado tossed with a dressing. What came out was a lettuce salad with sliced avocado on top. The dressing was good, slightly sweet. It was a good salad, just not at all what I was expecting. The sweet potato sushi roll is served warm, the sweet potato is deep fried, and there is eel sauce on top. The sweet potato rolls I had other places were not fried, and served cold. I really enjoyed this one! Everything seemed very fresh, not a hint of wilting greens or brown avocado to be seen! I am so grateful to live right down the road from this amazing establishment. If you enjoy ramen, sushi, and other Japanese items, def give them a try! There are bathrooms available for guests. What my stars mean: 5 is outstanding, memorable, a place to write home about! A must-experience. Someplace I would love to recommend to tourists, and visit myself again and again. 4 is great, somewhere I'd love to return again and again. Back-up recommendation for tourists. 3 is good. A solid option if I am in the area. I may recommend to locals, but would probably leave it off my list of recommendations for tourists. 2 is ok, but only because it a great value, unique, and/or convenient. 1 means I would not return.
