Meh. Was fine. Surprisingly few vegetables in the noodle dishes. The broccoli appetizer was very crispy but drowning in peanut sauce. Food came out super fast. We got our appetizer and hadn't even finished it when our entrees came out. Our drinks from the bar (that we ordered first) came out after that. Overall the food was pretty bland. Vegan doesn't have to be boring. Our server was lovely.

So Planta made some of my favorite drinks. I had a Delicious lychee cocktail and I also had a delicious elderflower drink. The bartenders know what they are doing. There are a number of other drinks I want to try. I had the matcha cheesecake and it was also Delicious! I must go back. The bar area was fun. It's a nice looking spot. This restaurant is all vegetarian. I enjoyed the creativity and variety of food options. However, l need my protein. The sushi was decent. I felt like something in the flavor profile was missing.

UNAGI EGGPLANT NIGIRI $7 for two pieces

I came back to attend a birthday dinner and it definitely redeemed itself from a couple years ago where they didn't have any other other things that I wanted to eat so then I picked something that I ended up not really liking. This time was a little different. I had the red dragon roll and I couldn't quite tell it's vegan and not actual dragon roll of some sort. And then I also tried the thousand layer potatoes, which was nice, but I don't know if I liked it that much. And I got the Unagi eggplant which was really really good. I also really like eggplant at baseline. Other people got the sprig and run drink (it's under free spirits and it's a mocktail) and they loved it. Two of my friends got the udon and mushroom - they loved it (clean bowls). So I enjoyed it but only for special occasions. It's not very affordable to come to Planta regularly you see (or maybe I just need to have a better paying gig hahah) ... a roll and a nigiri plate came out to be over $30 ... which is somewhat typical in the expensive city of DC. In the end, we all concluded Planta Bethesda has more options whereas this one is more Asian fusion type of food (which I love). But I'm still dreaming of that miso salmon tofu from Planta Bethesda (now a year later? Also higher end prices for me and can't afford to go too often). They do only have two bathroom individual stalls and for some reason it took a while for my friends to use the restroom (she said one person was trying on outfits in there?!) and it can get a little messy in there with the trash bin, but it probably isn't consistently so...

Food: 9/10 - Everything I had was amazing. The BANG BANG BROCCOLI was the most favorable dish that impressed me. My father and I really enjoy bang bang broccoli and the sushi (spicy tuna rolls and TORCHED & PRESSED). Service: 8/10 - Waitress was very pleasant, knowledgeable, and gave good recommendations. Ambiance: 10/10 - Has a nice upscale restaurant type vibe. Came on a weekday for a quick bday lunch so it wasn't crowded at all, but I will try to come back for dinner one day to see that experience as well. Parking: 6/10 - there's parking garage on the left side of the restaurant on M st. Took a while to find parking and the garage. Overall: It was my first time coming here and I will most definitely be back. Favorite vegan spot in the city!

I thought it was impossible to make delicious gluten free AND vegan food. Planta proved me wrong! Many of their offerings are GF and vegan, and everything is delicious. My group shared the Firecracker maki, Chick'n fried mushrooms, poke bowl, and the Singapore noodles. While all the dishes were great, the poke bowl was the stand out, followed by the Firecracker maki. How DO you make the mushroom bacon, Planta?? It's amazing. I look forward to coming back next time I'm in DC!

This was my first vegan dining experience in a high end setting and it did not disappoint! Every time I've been, the staff has been super accommodating. Recently, I went with a group of friends and saw two other friends sitting across from our table. The staff kindly joined the tables together and were attentive the whole night. Let's get to the food! First, the crispy broccoli is a MUST!! I would come back here just for the broccoli. It's fried to perfection and the accompanying sauce adds to it. Their sushi rolls are surprisingly good and you don't even realize you're not eating meat. This time around, I got the spicy crab hand roll and wasn't the hugest fan. Felt a bit oily to me. Friends also got the Dan Dan noodles and the kimchi fried rice. The rice was a 10/10 and the Dan Dan noodles were perfectly seasoned but also tasted a little oily to me. Overall, would definitely add this to my rotation.

Just went back to planta queen for maki monday- it was incredibly disappointing and terrible service. It took 25 minute for our server to come over to greet us. Didn't even have water for almost half an hour. We finally were able to order and everything came out at once. The manager (I think it was the manager he didn't introduce himself), he sent some items to our table (not enough bao buns for our number of guests in the party). No one explained what any item was when it came to the table and finally, once the maki came out, we had to take soy sauce off the servers station because no one offered it to us. Finally, it took 20 minutes to get the check. I'd save your money and go elsewhere. The service and staff alone make this place mediocre at best.

We came back to PLANTA for a birthday celebration, and it was the perfect mix of fun, flavor, and creativity. Every dish had something memorable about it, and the service made it feel like a real occasion. The Bang Bang Broccoli was an absolute standout -- crispy, saucy, and bursting with flavor. The Dan Dan Noodles with tofu were another hit: creamy, spicy, and deeply satisfying. The Beef & Broccoli was a clever, elevated twist on the traditional version, while the Volcano Roll delivered a delicious blast of flavor (though the rice was a little wet and didn't hold together perfectly). The Chick'n Fried Mushrooms had an amazing texture -- perfectly crisp with that meaty bite -- but could've used a bit more seasoning. Overall, it was a fantastic meal that felt celebratory and fresh. The only thing I'd love to see from PLANTA is a bit more protein-forward options across the menu to round out the experience without having to add the $4-$10 add-ons. Still, it's easily one of the best spots in town for inventive, plant-based dining.

I finally had the opportunity to try Planta Queen in Dupont and it did not disappoint. I'm not a vegan, but I was genuinely impressed by the food, ambience and drinks. The atmosphere was lively and welcoming, making it a great spot for dinner. We decided to sample a variety of dishes, and everything was deliciously presented. Drinks: Cherry smoke show and Emperor's old-fashioned. Food: We ordered the bang, bang, broccoli, thousand layer crispy potatoes, beef, and broccoli, spicy tuna roll. Sweet ending: The sticky toffee pudding Moriah, our server was friendly and attentive, adding to the overall experience. Definitely a good time.

As a meat eater...this vegan restaurant absolutely blew my mind. Got a few appetizers and sushi rolls as my main entree- absolutely spectacular, delicious, fresh- and tasted like "the real thing!" Although embarrassing, I included a photo of my face/reaction when I was eating my sushi roll because it was that delicious (and it was watermelon as "tuna"). As a gluten free person, this restaurant is also extremely accommodating and easy to eat at. Many of the items can be made GF (with cross contamination as a risk), though they have a celiac menu for reference as well (with no risk of cross contamination). Ambiance is beautiful - service was great. Can't wait to return & get some sushi rolls to go!!!

    Nicole L.

First time trying a vegan restaurant as someone who rarely eats meals without a meat or fish protein as the focus. The restaurant itself is beautiful. Fun and lively ambience with a cool factor. Cocktails were great. The food was delicious. I was pleasantly surprised about a couple items that I was unsure of. Specifically my favorite dish was the bang bang broccoli. I couldn't stop eating it!

Came here for their late night happy hour. Service was spotty.. lot of staff standing around chatting, possible because it was near the end of their shift. The value you get for their happy hour menu was decent. Being that we were visiting from Los Angeles, food was just ok. Ordered the Kimchi Bao - to find out there was no kimchi in it, we were not advised until we inquired, as the dish appeared lacking from what the menu described the dish entailed. The fried cauliflower sauce was an absolute sodium salt bomb. Decor of the establishment was very nice.

Yes, they do. Just notify the host/server when you go in or when you make a reservation online.

    Is there outdoor seating?

Hi Bo, I was there about a month ago and at the time there was no outdoor seating. I'm assuming there isn't any now either just because of their location. They do have ample seating indoors. I'd recommend making a reservation. Hope you enjoy!

I went alone and sat at the sushi bar and did the premium omakase. Non traditional in that it was all served on one plate, but worth it. Nice presentation. We had a reservation for 7:30 p.m. for a party of 12, and I think that was the first issue. A group our size really needed a dedicated server, but instead we had one server covering our entire section. To be fair, he may have been stretched thin, but unfortunately, the service itself also left a lot to be desired. We were seated at 7:30, but our drink orders weren't taken until around 7:50. Then he disappeared for another 20 minutes before returning to take additional drink orders from people who had arrived later. We were ready to order food, but kept hearing, "I'll be right back." Throughout the night, drinks and items were forgotten. One friend finished her first glass of wine, ordered a second, and didn't receive it until we were literally asking for the check. At that point... we're leaving, friend. To make matters worse, several menu items we wanted weren't available. The mochi? Sold out. The Wagyu? Sold out. There were three or four different items people at our table ordered that were unavailable. On a Monday, that was a little surprising. Now for the good part... the sushi was REALLY good. I ordered the Yume Roll and the Tiger Roll, and both were incredibly fresh. The Yume Roll was especially unique and one of my favorite specialty rolls I've had in a while. It was made with spicy tuna, avocado, seared tuna, jalapeño, spicy mayo, eel sauce, and crunchy tempura bits, which gave it the perfect combination of heat, texture, and richness. The Tiger Roll was another standout, made with lump crab, avocado, cucumber, spicy mayo, steamed tiger shrimp, and a mango tobiko sauce. The combination of flavors was fresh, light, and perfectly balanced. I also ordered the edamame with the spicy black garlic sauce, and I absolutely loved that twist. It was a nice change from the usual salted edamame. One dish that completely missed the mark was the Tempura Rice with Chicken, which I shared with the table. Unfortunately, this was the only thing we ordered that I genuinely didn't enjoy. The chicken was dark meat, lacked seasoning, and honestly tasted like it had come straight from a bag of frozen Tyson nuggets. It didn't have the crispy, flavorful bite I was expecting and felt completely out of place compared to how fresh and well-executed the sushi was. I'd definitely skip this one on my next visit. My cocktail was just as impressive as the food. It was made with Ilegal Mezcal, pomegranate, hibiscus yuzu, simple syrup, and egg white, and it was absolutely gorgeous. The egg white gave it a silky, frothy finish, while the pomegranate and hibiscus yuzu added a bright, slightly tart flavor that paired beautifully with the subtle smokiness of the mezcal. It was as pretty as it was delicious. The restaurant itself is gorgeous. It's tucked away in an alley, so it's a little easy to miss, but once you're inside, the space is modern, spacious, and has a really cool stone bar that gives the restaurant a sleek, upscale vibe. I was also pleasantly surprised by the prices. Specialty rolls ranged from about $12-$20, with only a few premium options around $25. The edamame was about $8, so overall I thought the pricing was very fair, especially for Georgetown. Would I come back? Yes... but probably with a much smaller group. The food and ambiance are worth another visit, but I'd definitely be hoping for a better service experience next time. I also hope they have a better handle on inventory because I'd still love to try the Wagyu and finish dinner with the mochi.

This place feels like it tried to be a hit in the 90s and failed. The sushi just isn't that good,…read morethe whole menu is white washed mid sushi at high prices. The ceviches and crudos and such are all fine, but they're not good. It makes it hard to want to enjoy them at all. Service is nice and friendly, but understaffed. Everything took incredibly long. Why are they understaffing this place?!? Especially at the prices. The cocktails are actually pretty good, though the wine list is uninteresting. It's a fine spot if you're looking for a quick meal in Georgetown, but it's not a destination spot by any means.

The bartender went out of their way to discuss with the chef vegan options to ensure we had a fully plant based meal. We started with the Clay & Craft soju flight. This was such a treat! We have never tried soju with such high alcohol proofs. It felt so upscale and unique. We shared the Onggi Lunch Jeongsik Set modified to be vegan. This was a great portion size of food to share among two people. The pajeon was my husband's favorite part of the meal. I enjoyed the vegan jigae the most. Overall there was no weak part of this meal and we did not leave a single morsel of food behind. I will note that the vegan bulgogi tasted almost identical to the bulgogi you can buy at Trader Joe's. We love that bulgogi so that is not a problem. It was just funny to taste something very familiar to us. The rest of the meal was new flavors for me, and reminded my husband of his 4 years living in Korea. My husband has not had authentic Korean flavors made vegan before so this was a major treat. We saved room for dessert and enjoyed this soft nutty sweet treat. It was the perfect finish to a delicious lunch. Thank you Onggi for being so vegan friendly! We cannot wait to enjoy another meal here.

Also, one of my close friends is vegan, so fairly challenging to find a nice spot for her. She enjoyed everything that she ordered, and it made us both happy. Went with jeyuk bokkeum as a main. The sauce is just how I like it--tasty zing, very light consistency, not on fire, pleasant. Sampled some of the jabche and split a vegan kimbap--all delicious. If this is considered extraordinary Korean fare, I couldn't say, but think their cooking is pretty darn good. Once inside, it's hard to tell you're in Dupont Circle, with all of the horrible construction that's perpetually on-going in the neighborhood. It's an escape of sorts. Onggi is a keeper.
