My daughter's favorite place to sit at the bar and write. We had a good experience and meal. Our server was attentive and explained the menu as well as the drink options. We enjoyed the variety of dishes and the fun atmosphere. Will return to try new dishes.

Fried pork gyoza - Fried pork gyoza topped with chopped green onions, served with soy sauce in a small white dish on a white plate.

We had a large party for restaurant week lunch and I think everyone enjoyed the experience overall. Chaplin's is pretty consistent with their food and service whenever I go. I had the fried pork gyoza for my appetizer. I would recommend getting them steamed and not fried. I thought fried meant just pan fried for a crispy bottom, not deep fried. The deep frying definitely makes the gyoza a bit less flavorful. The only hiccup with the appetizers was that one person asked for vegetarian gyoza and found that one of her dumplings had meat in it. The kitchen was able to quickly make her a new dish of all vegetable gyoza to replace it. I had the chicken katsu curry for my entree. I would have preferred a thinner chicken cutlet but it was nicely breaded and cooked. The rice was also cooked well. I've never had kimchi with curry before but it was an interesting touch as it made the dish slightly spicy. The portion size was generous and I took the remaining third home for lunch.

Tito's and cranberry - A glass of pink-colored cocktail with ice cubes is placed on a wooden table in a restaurant setting, with bottles and tableware visible in the background.

Bringing in the New Year with the ladies! It has been a while since I have been here, definitely pre-pandemic, and what a treat to start the new year off right. Everything we feasted on was phenomenal: the tori karaage, fried wontons, and the chicken yakisoba. Chef's kiss. I washed it all down with a green tea shot and Tito's and cranberry. I left full and feeling good. Heather was spot on from beginning to end and very attentive to us. Kudos to you. I will not stay too long this time. Cheers and bon appétit.

Delicious food and drinks and great service in a cool atmosphere!!! I loved the karaage chicken, gyoza, and buns. Also as a non-drinker the phony negronis were excellent. Servers were friendly and went above and beyond to provide great service.

Stopped in for a quick dinner on a Tuesday night! As Andrew stated "it goes down on a Tuesday" and boy did it go down! The Chaplin A.S.S was spicy and so flavorful. I can most definitely see why it is a house favorite!! The lime was a great acidic cut through the broth and really brought out the flavors! My friend had the Chaplains and said it was delicious!! Bartender, Andrew was welcoming, knowledgeable and friendly! Would most definitely recommend and will be back for some drinks! Looks like a great after hours work spot. Music was great and it was pretty crowded for a Tuesday night!

Popped in for dinner on a Tuesday evening and the place was packed. Reservations are definitely recommended. Inside is cute and dimly lit There was thankfully a two top available with no wait. Our server/bartender, Andrew, was amazing. He was attentive, offered great suggestions and answers our questions. I got the Chaplin and it was so good. The broth had great flavor. The port was seasoned and cooked well and the noodles were yummy. I slurped up every last bit. Andrew recommended a delicious dessert that I can't remember the name of. It was like a chocolate lava cake that had cognac on the top. Will definitely be back soon!

everything was good!! it's j nothing was stand out to me necessarily :/ & they messed something up i think it was like incorrectly listing it as restaurant week but gave us a gift card to make up for it so good service acc

    Chaplin A.S.S. Soooooooo yummy!

Im obsessed with this place, best ramen in DC! Ive tried the chaplin, spicy stamina, and chaplin A.S.S and all three are amazing. The shrimp gyoza is also amazing!

Absolutely love going to Chaplin's whenever I can! My go-to is the classic Chaplin ramen, but recently I decided to try the Chaplin A.S.S., and the chicken was amazing. I also highly recommend the Pay Day injected dumplings (dumplings injected with a whiskey mixture to enhance all the flavor! The vibe is always cozy inside, and the staff brings such a welcoming energy every time I visit. A perfect spot for a date night or an outing with friends.

Came here for Sunday dinner with my friends. It has been awhile but the food is just as good! We got Jameson shots. We all got shrimp and chicken dumplings. I got the yakisoba and omg i ate it all! Will not stay away as long because everything was top tier! The service, the food and prices

Oopsies we were so hungry so forgot to take pics but -- the fried tofu and wakame salad was sooo good. Tofu was super crispy but didn't feel heavily fried and the wakame was refreshing and flavorful. Wish portion sizes were bigger! Ramen was decent and I would love thicker noodle options :)

Such a unique brunch! I've been to Chaplin's a few times but never for brunch and I'm happy I finally gave it a try. The ramen is always delicious and having unlimited Veuve makes it better. The Chaplin's A.S.S. is my favorite ramen dish! Our server, Aaryn was incredible! He was attentive, funny, and kind. He made sure our glasses were never empty. Food and service aside, I love the outdoor decor to really highlight the Veuve offering. I've always sat downstairs but I love the upstairs bar scene! My one suggestion is to expand the brunch menu. I understand it's a ramen restaurant but a couple of traditional breakfast items would be great!

I can't believe I have not done my review of coming her meeting up with my friend for happy hour! We went here I believe it was June 2023 because it was around the time the summer Olympics were happening. This place is such a unique spot as the decor gives the early 30s/40s vibes which I absolutely love. I can tell there are regulars as they can up to the bar downstairs and ordered off the top do their head. I did like that there was a parking garage close by in walking distance and arrest parking is also available. My for and I opted to go upstairs at a small booth near the upstairs bar where our waiter/bartender was the bomb. Because it's been awhile since I came I can't remember any of the drinks we had that night but all were really great! The chicken ramen and the karrage was the star of the show! I couldn't believe the chicken ramen was so juicy and not dry and so spicy which I loved. I can't wait to come back and enjoy that chicken ramen and try a few other items as well!

The Cure. Smooth and not overly sweet. Feels refreshing.

We got there nice and early on a Friday to enjoy the happy hour which is available from 4-6 on weekdays. As a part of happy hour they had several cocktails and small bites for $10 or less. I had the pumpkin spice spritz and an order of the fried chicken bites - both were really really good. I'd order both items again. For awareness, they limit dining in to about an hour and a half - because the restaurant is fairly small, they want folks to make their seats available for other guests pretty quickly. They weren't rude about enforcing this time limit, but they definitely tell you up front and quickly gather your orders/plates to help move you though the meal quickly. This is a nice date spot - it's coziness would make for the perfect ambiance in you're looking to grab a bite with that special someone. Pro tip: Be careful not to walk past it! The signage outside isn't the best, so it's very easy to miss the door completely (as I did).

This is the most uniquely prepared edamame I've ever had. It's packed with herbs and spices and so flavorful that you won't go back to regular edamame after trying it here. I've ordered quite a few items off the menu, and I've been equally satisfied every time. I've had the Pho Ga and the Shoyu Paitan...both were so delicious. They come with extras so you can customize your bowl with hoisin, chili flakes, and more, which I love. One time I went with a friend who's pescatarian, and we ordered the Cha Ca La Bong (catfish). It was incredibly flavorful and filling. It's served cold, a delicious sauce. But don't let this cold dish fool you ...it does not disappoint. We also ordered the General Tso shrimp, and I got the sweet-and-sour spareribs. Everything was delicious. As for drinks, I don't quite remember which frozen one I ordered, but it didn't give much of a buzz. The regular alcoholic drinks, though? They definitely got the job done. Every time I've gone, the service has been excellent. Everyone is welcoming, smiling, and genuinely seems proud to serve you. I also appreciate that if you don't finish your ramen, they box it up thoughtfully, packing the broth and noodles separately so it stays fresh. Highly recommend!

We tried the Kale Salad, Red Oil Dumplings, Firecracker Wings, Spicy Miso 2.0 ramen, and Tonkotsu 3.0 ramen. The kale salad was fine but a little lame. The wings weren't "firecracker" -- not spicy at all -- but had a very nice dry rub and smoky flavor (very similar to the wings at Succotash). The dumplings were enormous and pretty good, but I wish the sauce stuck to the dumplings better. Ramen was also good; I preferred the Spicy Miso over the Tonkotsu. Service was a little too basic. We had to flag down a waiter to get water, water wasn't refilled, the check and pay pad weren't picked up quickly, and I got the wrong ramen order.

If you're into that stuff, then that's a matcha for you. Ramens were okay. Broth was blowing my mind in flavor. I would say the depth was not too deep but this will work for a cold night. Karaage was okay. Takoyaki lacked impact in flavor also, missing the oomf! Seaweed salad was good but I'm not gonna rave about seaweed salad. We wrapped things up with the tiramisu cake. Oh boy, that was a surprise. It fell flat. The layers were overcooked and had a tough bite. I expect tiramisu to have a tender bite to it. We didn't finish that slice of cake. Well, we left full but half fulfilled. Was it worth it? Not really. If you need ramen and cup o noodles isn't cutting it, this is an option. Then again, there are options.

I ordered the JINYA Chicken Ramen, which is usually my go-to at any ramen spot, so I had a lot to compare it to. The broth was a little mild at first, so I tried to doctor it up. The condiments they had out weren't really my usual choices. I normally reach for sesame oil, vinegar, or even a little hoisin, but they didn't have those. There was dumpling sauce, something that looked like a chili garlic sauce (but wasn't quite), and one other option. That said, interestingly enough, the next day the broth tasted way more flavorful. The chicken, though, was really good. Chicken in ramen can sometimes be dry or bland, but this was moist and very tender, which I appreciated. Another thing to note that I liked was that you can get free noodles if you have broth left over! I also ordered the dragon fruit fizz, and it was delicious and smelled amazing.
