We saw all the hype on Instagram for this restaurant, so we had to give it a try. We got a reservation for a Wednesday at 6 and it wasn't too busy, but by 7 the restaurant was full so make a reservation. We shared a pot of Canton fruit herbal blend tea. It tasted refreshing and fruity, and they will refill the water in the pot. We split a few dishes. The honey walnut shrimp was our favorite, I wanted another order of them. The honey cha sui was cooked perfectly. We also split the bread pudding which is soaked in milk tea, incredible. The restaurant was cute, though I wished they had leaned a bit more into the disco theme.

Have been wanting to come try this place ever since it opened not quite two months ago. Would have come earlier if they have more extensive hours, as it is it's only open from 5 pm Tuesday to Sunday although they are looking into adding more hours. It's not a large space and the decor and ambience is more like a bar than restaurant. All the tables seem about just 1.5 ft square so you might not want to order too many dishes all at once. What I like about it is there are a lot of high tables. There are also tables out in front on the wide sidewalk. Seems like it's already fast becoming a popular spot. We got there almost exactly at 5 pm on a Sunday and there are already plenty of people ahead of us. They have a pretty small menu - and we ordered mushroom potstickers, spring rolls, cucumber salad, and beef chow fun. The cucumber salad is a bit over pickled, the spring rolls nice but standard, but the potstickers are interesting, looking just a bit different from the usual ones being very crispy fried on one side. The beef chow fun is also somewhat creative - the flat rice noodles come in little rolled up clumps like gnocchi's and the beef is super tender and flavorful. Best of all they have the coconut sago panna cotta which is more like a sago pudding, absolutely worth a try! Looking forward to them adding more hours and we'll definitely be back for sure.

Great new restaurant in DC! We were able to grab a table with no wait at 6pm on a Wednesday, but it was full by 7pm. It has cute disco element themes inside as well as a mahjong tile wall. Food came out quickly and was delicious. The char siu was perfectly cooked, the duck lo mein was incredible, and the honey walnut shrimp was a favorite. We ordered a pot of the canton fruit herbal blend, and my only complaint is that it was leaking out of the bottom and left a mess. Otherwise, this will definitely be a place I return!

What a vibe! Music, mahjong decoration and disco balls? That's not all - amazing friendly (with a smile) service and quality ingredient in the dishes and signature cocktails.

Came back to try more items and were just as impressed. This time we ordered the fish sauce wings, cetuche salad, beef chow fun, and the pork belly. Every single dish was delicious. The wings were perfectly seasoned and crispy, influenced by Vietnamese culture and hit the spot! Favorites so-far: honey walnut shrimp, fish sauce wings, and beef chow fun Another great experience all around. We'll definitely be back again!

Popping in on a Thursday evening with a friend around 7:30pm, the wait to get bar seats was only 10 minutes. Once seated, the bartended took our order. To eat, we got the Orangish Chicken and the Smashed Cucumber Salad. Both were decent. To drink, I ordered the sangria. It comes in a disco ball. If you like sweeter drinks, this one is for you. (There's a lot of ice so if you wait to drink it, it may taste watered down.)

We went as a group of 4 and split the duck set, wontons, and pork belly. It was the perfect amount of food and hands down was our favorite meal on our weekend trip. I was not expecting the duck set to also come with duck lomein - it was out of this world. Also thoroughly enjoyed all of our cocktails. Vibes were immaculate. Worth the hour wait!

Decent Chinese food that definitely hits the spot and satisfies any craving you may have. Our entire group was a bit disappointed there was no dance floor, but it was a fun atmosphere. However, given the small space it was VERY loud and difficult to talk to someone sitting across from me. The staff were friendly and able to accommodate our large group which was appreciated. Ultimately the food and drinks are good but I felt it was slightly overpriced for what it was.

Really liked this spot! It's tiny and walk in only, so definitely recommend getting there early. We really liked everything we ate, but the Honey Walnut Shrimp were definitely the biggest standout. A great addition to the Navy Yard area.

Great breakfast sandwiches! Coffee and tea were good. The music had us singing and swaying through breakfast! Great place for breakfast.

We stopped for breakfast. I had a the beef satay breakfast sandwich and coffee. The sandwich was fire! They brought fresh pot of coffee in a French press! The wife had an earl grey cookie and chamomile tea. They brought the tea in a cool pot. We ordered at the door using a touch screen. Easy peasy. The service was outstanding! The music had my wife singing along and swaying through breakfast. Funky cool place

Came on a Friday night for dinner and drinks. Food was delicious, fresh, and fast. Got the mushroom dumplings--would've preferred a bit more texture from the mushroom (was minced a little too fine) but great sear and nice flavor. The crispy egg rolls were large and came with house made sriracha, quite good. Beef chow fun was flavorful and well executed, with plenty of beef, a rich sauce and unique rolled noodles. Drinks were way cheaper than expected (most $11-13) and the Mai tai was so good I got it twice despite wanting to try almost every other drink on the menu. It came with house made whipped cream in a tiki style mug and was plenty strong. Service was attentive and helpful, with food coming out rapidly and multiple servers checking on us through the meal. Vibes were good, with present but not overpowering music and a disco ball keeping the ambiance true to its name. I will be back here again and again. Only real downside is it's a bit farther off the main strip in Navy Yard but it's worth every dollar in my opinion

    Orange Chicken

The Orange Chicken is not worth the price of $18. There's no flavor to it. There's no crunch to it. Weak dish. It's comparable to a microwaved Orange chicken bag from Trader Joe's. Honestly I think that would have been more tasteful. I ordered it and ate it at home within 3 minutes of it coming out of the kitchen so it wasn't that it got soggy over time. :(

Abbbbbbsolutely delicious! The food was fresh and well prepared/seasoned. We got a little bit of this, little bit of that, including the Salt & Pepper wings 5/5, Crushed Cucumber Salad 4/5, Black Pepper Steak 4/5, Typhoon Shelter Shrimp 5/5 and Siu Yuk 5/5 (Must try if you eat pork!) Shoutout to the chef! The drinks were good too. Some even come in some decorative cups. The atmosphere was inviting and cozy. Music on and decorations were a vibe! All of the staff were welcoming and helpful and our server was great! As expressed, it is cozy, so if you can, try to snag a reservation before you make your way, but whether you get a reservation in advance, put your name on the list when you arrive or are able to slip over and find a seat or 2 at the bar, I think you'll enjoy the atmosphere, service and most importantly, the food! If you're into tea, they also have some great options! I tried the Rooibos Blend. I'll be back for sure!

We started with the crab wontons they were really good and the main attraction for everyone when I posted it on social media. We got the fried rice it was delicious, the bbq platter is honestly the best option you get all the meats except the duck which I will need to go back and have. The potatoes were out of this world ! When I saw it on the menu I truly wasn't that excited once I tasted one I was mind blown. The flavor is so unique and so hard to wrap your mind around it's truly bursting with flavor. The cucumber salad is also really good. They deserve every Michelin star that they have been granted the food is truly just that good. I would absolutely recommend coming here. Overall it's not a bad spot, but it just didn't exceed where I hoped it would, and while the food didn't really shine, neither did the service. The space is really awesome, and the menu gives you a lot of hope. But fewer hits than expected. The Crab Wontons were out, the jeau lanh (sp?) was not bad, but not that great, the char siu pork was my favorite, but the fried rice and noodles were not cooked at a high enough temperature to taste remotely authentic. Cocktail list looked awesome, cocktails were all just fine, we had 4 of them. Best dish was the monkey bread for dessert! Probably won't be back, but not a horrible spot.

We know for connivence prices on these sites are more expensive. Maybe one day I'll take a stroll into DC to check out the place. I just hope it doesn't disappoint and makes me not want to order from them again. It was cinco de mayo so the service was very slow over an hour to get our food. But when it finally arrived it was surprisingly still warm enough for me to dig in to check out the flavor. It was some good lo mein not too greasy and has enough of all three proteins. What I wish they would have added more veggies and a tad bit more garlic and spice. But other than that it was a good amount of food. I will definitely order from them again...this time actually go into the restaurant.

In my first visit to Maketto, I came for their dim sum lunch on the weekend, and even though I had high expectations coming in, it met my every desire. We started with the pork steamed bao, and man it didn't disappoint. With a hoisin sauce spread on the plate and plenty of hoisin sauce flavoring the pork, this homemade beauty was my favorite of the lot. Having eaten so many bao buns in my past, this one stood out among many I've eaten across Asia. We also ordered the Xaio Long Bao, the Cambodian Noodle Soup, and the Rice Roll with Shrimp. The star of these was the Rice Roll w/shrimp. The shrimp was excellent, the Rice Roll itself was perfect and the toppings and sauce made me want to order more. The Cambodian Noodle Soup was great as well. True to form, we had it with the chicken and it was a perfect encapsulation of the Cambodian soups that I so loved when visiting. Service was good, but most importantly the food came out piping hot. A must with this style of cuisine. The only exception was the Xaio Long Bao, but that could have been due to the sauce cooling the dumplings. As for ambiance, it is a unique model as it is a coffee shop before 11, and then a restaurant and coffee shop after 11. We came around 11:30 and it was in between selling out of all their pop-up pastries and ramping up the kitchen. I will be back, many times indeed.

First things first did you know that Maketto has been around for 11 years! That's amazing, especially for a small business. And I fully understand why, because this place is a gem. Maketto is a Cambodian, Taiwanese blend restaurant that is surprisingly open from 9 am- 10 pm most days. I love the vibes, the exposed brick, the food, drinks, and the bartender was super friendly. So my friend was telling me that the restaurant used to be half retail store and half restaurant. I'm sure I would've wanted to come in here just to browse all the time because they're definitely trendy and in tune with the culture. Now to my experience. I tried their fried chicken wings and the lo mein. Both are medium plates and large portions. Between my friend and I we were stuffed at the end of dinner and still took some food to-go. All of their dishes come family style and they are not skimping you with the portions. The food was all fresh and soooo flavorful! Kudos to chef Erik, who also owns/created Providencia up the street. I'm so excited to come back to try more because everything sounds delicious. One little word of advice is to check if the restaurant has a private event booked before heading over. I recently tried to go for an early dinner on a Saturday and there was a wedding getting ready to happen. BRAVOOO Maketto, I will be supporting frequently :)

That's on us for not researching, though. But, since we were there, we opted to stay for lunch upstairs. Downstairs was closed long-term for what I hope is remodeling. Even in December, it felt colder inside the upstairs restrooms than outside! But, given that we were the ONLY people in the place at noon on a Saturday, I guess they are trying to cut costs where possible. We wound up being joined by about six other tables in total while we were there, fortunately! The food was as good as I remember, despite the lack of Dim Sum. We did have a few apps to try and make up for it (shrimp dumplings, scallion pancake, spring rolls, wonton soup). They were all pretty darn good, I must say! For entrees, we went with just two, since we were already getting a bit full. We ordered the Ma Bo (ma po) Tofu and the Mu Shi Pork (with the pancakes). Both were flavorful and filling. My only complaint on the Ma Bo was that they used very silken tofu instead of a firm one. I do not admit to being an expert on the dish, but I was the only one of the three of us who didn't find the texture off-putting. But, that being said, the ground pork and sauce itself were very good, so not too bad overall. The service was okay. Our first server, older gent, seemed like he did not want to be there that day. He didn't seem rude or mad, just... sad. Like, the weight of a thousand bad days in row, kind-of-sad. But, the entire staff served every table, so it was one of those setups. That always seems to work better, I think. The drinks? Well, let's just say, one was enough! They have a menu of very colorful "tiki-era" libations, like the Suffering B*st*rd and the Scorpion Sting. We had one of each, and both were delicious and powerful in their own ways. There is basically very little parking nearby, though they are about a half a block from a Metro stop at Gallery Place - Chinatown. So, their location is wonderful! But, the downstairs being closed, the upstairs in desperate need of renovations, and the outside to match, it was somewhat of a letdown. I really hope they come back to full strength soon, because memories of Tony Cheng's back in the day are what keep me going when I have a craving for some Dim Sum!
