    Shrimp egg foo young

I ordered shrimp egg foo young lunch special. The wonton soup was fantastic, salt level was perfect! The egg foo young was delicious as well. Crab rangoon was really good as well. Must try! Service was great also!

I've been getting take out from here for several years. It is hit or miss. Today, with my Kung Pao Chicken it was a miss. The chicken was a bit tough. The normal Kung Pao spices were absent. It tasted more like a generic wok fried dish. Service was great, fast and efficient. It is an average neighborhood take out option in an area with limited options. What do you think?

    Are those feathers??? Lol
    Mariah M.

Well.... What do I have to say about this one. I have never had chicken with feathers. I suppose this is the freshest chicken in DC? Killed and partial defeathered in the back of house? With that being said, the chicken up to the discovery of this piece was, dare I say, good? Lol. Eat at your own risk and hopefully you won't end up with chicken feathers. One of the reasons we picked this place was because it says they had Mumbo sauce but I'm not sure that's what we got. It looked and tasted like sweet and sour. Bright red in color. A little disappointed. Lastly, the fried rice was plain and meh, and the orange chicken had so much orange peel it was overwhelming. Side note: I ordered through UberEats so I didn't have a chance to ask clarify questions regarding Mumbo sauce so it is what it is. I'll try another Carryout before this trip is over.

While chefs and restaurateurs despise Yelp, if there's one place no one can argue is reviewing carryout. It's the food of people and no matter how refined palate, your cravings cave you into going at least once a year. It's the type of food that unites people. That said, the average person could and should review carryout spots. If you browse Yelp, you'll notice most carryout places have fewer than 3 stars and many first hand accounts of food poisoning. So, when you stumble upon a 4-star carryout, you MUST go. That's how I came across Hong Kong Carryout. I used to live around the corner and it never ever caught my eye until Yelp pointed me there. After having dinner there, I see why it's rated so highly. It delivers you an experience, which us millennials love. It's a tiny house next to a bodega in Hill East off of the popular East Capitol Street. Despite the outside looking dirty, the inside is surprisingly bare and clean. There is a random picture of a city skyline inside and then the takeout window with a friendly guy behind it. Order a special or any item off their extensive menu and watch the older men make it through the window. There's a bench to sit on while you wait for your food. My friend ordered the chicken and broccoli per the cashier's recommendation, but the flavor fell flat. What did NOT disappoint was the sesame chicken. It's perfectly cooked and is full of flavor. Bot dishes came with rice and the large was more than enough for dinner AND lunch the next day- both just over $11. They have a fridge full of unhealthy drinks and the only water they have is bottled water you have to pay for (isn't that illegal to refuse free water to a customer?). Note: It's cash only, but there's an ATM just outside. It's been a full 36 hours and neither my friend and I are sick. That's winning in the carryout world.

It's a lovely thing to wander through before heading in to eat just a few feet away. The setting itself doesn't feel like Washington at all. With the charming little patio and relaxed vibe, you could imagine you're in another country, and it strikes a wonderful balance between easygoing and sophisticated. Little touches go a long way for me, and they nailed them here: silverware with the lovely illusion of polished silver and elevated stemware that added an extra bit of vibe to the whole experience. The staff were wonderfully accommodating from the start: everything was still soaked from the heavy rain the night before, but they went out of their way to set us up in a lovely shaded spot so we'd stay cool and comfortable. That same care showed up in a much bigger way later, when one of our party passed out from a health issue unrelated to the meal, and the team handled it with calm, attentiveness, and real heart. Now, the food. The brunch menu hits all the classics, chicken and waffles, eggs Benedict with fun variations featuring crab and smoked fish, all the good stuff. I settled on the lobster roll, which was incredibly good, served with Old Bay fries that came out perfectly hot and crisp, exactly the way fries should always arrive, with ketchup on the side. We also tried the tuna tartare and the buffalo oysters, which were a blast: fried oysters with a blue cheese dressing and hot sauce, served in the cutest presentation in shells on smooth lake pebbles. On the drinks side, I had a "Bloody Margaret," a gin-based riff on a Bloody Mary, and it was wonderfully spicy, just the way I like it. The cocktail list overall is playful and worth exploring. Oysters are clearly one of their fortes. They focus on Virginia oysters, so it's a single variety, but they do a lot with it across a range of preparations. There's also a fun Virginia peanut-centric theme running through the menu.

It is pricey, lucky for me it was my birthday and I could simply enjoy myself. My cocktail was exquisite, forgot what it was called but reminded me of a pina colada, but not as thick. The flavor and the freshness of the Whole fried fish, with fragrant herbs, tamarind and lime dressing was good. The Parker House Rolls were fluffy, but nothing I would put on the highly recommended list. Our waiter was very kind and personable. Other than that, I'm not sure if I would come back. Most people enjoy Caribbean style restaurants that master various fish for a fraction of the price and more food. While the "more food part" may be considered low- brow, I'm sure I am saying what many are thinking.

Unfortunately, the entrees didn't live up to the rest of the experience. The crab pasta was very bland and lacked flavor. The biggest disappointment, though, was the North Shore roast beef. Let's talk about it. Me and the girlfriend love to share everything because why come to a delicious restaurant and only try one dish? Fuggedaboutit! We're sampling over here. She starts with a Hugo spritz that apparently is a "girliepop fave" which I might deserve jail time for typing those words but whatever sue me she liked the drink ok? Antipasti: We tried the eggplant fritti which was delicious. Also shared the beet salad. Also delicious. But I will say that we eat a lot of arugula salads and dry arugula even with all the toppings can be a little rough and I'd love if it was lubed up with a tiny bit of olive oil. Anyway don't hesitate to try either of these. Entrees: Buccatini alla carbonara was awesome. Creamy/cheesy, nice bite through the pasta, and that cured meat or whatever it was. We also had the chicken Marsala which was delicious but if you don't already know, don't ask how it's made so delicious because it's basically all butter and cream. Anyway pasta and sauce and chicken we're all delicious. Desert: Especially in an Italian restaurant this is almost always an automatic tiramisu for me but this time we decided to go with something different. The girlfriend loves a lemony dessert so we tried the limoncello cake. She loved it and I liked it. I would say get it if you're a lemon fan. And bada boom bada bing that's your review. The organizer had booked the brunch about a week in advance and had coordinated with the restaurant to pay a large group deposit. The reservation was for 1:30 PM, but our table was not ready until 2 PM. When we were finally seated, the table was only set for 20 people. We were in the upstairs room with another large group, so there was no space to really add two more chairs to our table. We had to crowd into the table to accommodate the last two people. Even though the brunch is bottomless with a menu to choose from, the servers decided to just bring random items from the brunch menu to the table. Honestly, some of the worst food I have ever seen. The vegetable vitamin salad looked like slop, as did the rice/salad dish, which I'm not even sure what it was called. We were also brought a trio of three dips as well as pita and cornbread. The dips were very bland, the cornbread was dry and flavorless. As I did not like any of the items that the servers selected, I begin requesting other salads/appetizers off of the menu. I requested the Greek/Mediterranean salad and the pickles, both were very underwhelming. As far as the brunch foods, the menu was literally all over the place. Even though this is a Balkan-inspired restaurant, there were items such as fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, and shrimp and grits on the menu, which don't actually make sense in light of what Balkan cuisine is. The best thing I ate was grilled steak, which was on a platter with eggs, bacon, sausage, and potatoes. There were two Belgian dessert waffles as well which were underwhelming. The only decent thing about the entire experience is that our servers kept the mimosas flowing. Each person in our party paid $75 inclusive of tax and tip-- 100% NOT worth it.

I started off with the Mimosa Sampler for my drink order; I wanted to try the different flavours that were on offer. These were nice, but I'd hoped the presentation would have been a little better and the mimosas not as heavy with the juices. The food was great! Super tasty and packed with flavour. My husband had the Peach Cobbler French Toast and I ordered the 'Create-Your-Own' pasta. I requested it with salmon, shrimp and spinach, but it only came with the shrimp and spinach. When the bill came, it had the salmon (which I never got) listed on it - after pointing this out, the server checked with the kitchen, and kindly removed it from the bill. Overall, I would say that we really enjoyed brunch here. I will definitely be back in the future to try the main dinner menu & hopefully there'll be no mixups with what I order and what I get .

The chips were sturdy enough to scoop up the thick dip without breaking, making it an appetizer that was easy to keep reaching for. The raw oysters were the star of the meal. They were served beautifully over ice with fresh lemon and a variety of sauces. The oysters tasted incredibly fresh clean, briny, and buttery with no fishy aftertaste. Since it was packed, the service started out slow but my server was sweet and friendly once I was greeted and she checked in on my table several times. There was music playing throughout my time there which at times made it difficult to hear my friend speak. When my table wanted to pay near the end of my service, the server was more difficult to find but eventually came.

However, I had a rare craving and Los Cabelleros exceeded my expectations. I am from DC, so I am not an expert on Mexican, but everything here feels authentic. We enjoyed the chips and salsa, quesadilla, queso, steak flautas, and mango drink. I wanted to get the churros so bad, but we were too full. So, we'll get them the next time. The service was friendly and informal. I wouldn't change a thing. Maybe I like Mexican afterall and just hadn't experienced authenticity. Either way, if I ever have a craving or have guests in town that want Mexican, this will be my go to spot.

A nice evening out ruined by shady characters and business practices. Beware of tourist trap…read moreactivities! The Server added an automatic 30% tip and explained it was "management settings" on the point of sales machine. I'm sure it is often overlooked by unassuming victims. When approached and questioned the tip was added and then additionally taxed. The Server asked where are you from; as if that mattered when the customer is being ripped off. Horrible and untrustworthy tactics and individuals. NONALCOHOLIC DRINKS WERE CHARGED AS ALCOHILIC DRINKS. Utter crooks. Food - Well spiced and flavorful. Decent selection to include vegitarian options. Service- left much to be desired. Server was unenthusiastic to say the least. Every aspect of the experience lacked tremendously. Server was impatient and seemed bothered that he had to do any work besides being on his phone and watching the TV in the background; he mess up drinks, and when the food finally arrived he plated incorrectly and got an attitude when addressed in a calm manner. Ambience - slow. Not in a good way. Operations were at best lax and uncaring. Charged for a large party with only 3 people in attendance as a means to hike the overall bill.
