I had high hopes. I used to go here in early 2000's for cocktails and general tso's. I remember the GT being absolutely delicious!! I had it today and it was meh... sorry. The sauce is divine but that chicken is that weird textured stuff I've been seeing online. STRINGY CHICKEN! But how?! Unfortunately I will not be returning. I got food poisoning twice the last two times I ate here. It was really bad, and that was the last straw. I use to love this place but I can't. My mom has been frequenting this carry out for years bc the food is good. Yes, they are cash only and do not have a ATM. They have a dilapidated restaurant area which is no longer open to the public but select patrons can sit and drink in that area. This is where there's-a turn for the worse. I've never like the rude demeanor of the older gentleman. I'm not referencing cultural demeanors but moreso how he speaks to customers. That being said my mom typically goes, not me. Today I went to pick up our family's order since I was in town. Shrimp egg fu young, two half steak and cheese, two orders of fries, and half n half came up to $36+. We noticed were missing the fries and half n half, also there's open sauce packets in the bottom of the bag. We call and the man has the nastiest response. My mom calls back and he yells and hangs up. They don't give receipts...so basically we will no longer go to this establishment. read more

I don't know why my friend chose this restaurant I guess because it was the only place open. The food here was completely disgusting! I ordered the shrimp with garlic sauce and they piled the container with sautéed onions and only 6 shrimp! I've never seen or had anything like that in my life. The 1/2 lb steamed shrimp were so tiny like seafood salad shrimp and over cooked. The restaurant refused to give a receipt of my order and stated they have a mandatory 10% tax on orders the service of the Chinese lady was dismissive and rude. WILL NEVER EVER GO BACK AGAIN! Zero stars is what this place deserves. read more

Food was awful...we ordered fried chicken wings and medium combination fried rice...$24 and some change for the most worst Chinese food I ever ate: The chicken wings which were probably precooked were not done and the combination rice was fried much too hard. This was probably due to them reheating it over and over and then giving it to customers. Please do not eat here!!! We all deserve better than this for our hard earned money especially during these times of pandemic when the prices of everything has gone up. Really good egg foo young! I recently moved to Anacostia and have been looking for a good Chinese food restaurant to get my egg food young fix. This place is just a mile and change from my home and in a convenient location right in a small shopping plaza on Pennsylvania Ave. off of 295. I ordered shrimp egg foo young over the phone and was greeted as soon as I came in. It cost $11 (with tax) which I thought was kind of high but most Chinese food places in this area seem to charge that (I feel some kind of way that I could get shrimp egg foo young in my old 'hood, Columbia Heights for $7.50 and this developing 'hood serving mostly minorities and lower income people charge much more) but I was happy with the quality (fresh, large shrimp). I will come back here again. Oh, and make sure you bring cash because they do not except credit or debit cards. read more

Several people told me this was the best chinese carryout spot on that particular side of town and they were not wrong. Make sure you bring cash. They DO NOT accept credit cards. I came in to order the $7.65 lunch special general tso chicken with fried rice which is a $1.50 upcharge. That's cool. No biggie. It turned out to be very delicious. The chicken tasted fresh and it was very tender. The only complaints I have about the general tso chicken was that it could have been some more pieces of chicken in the container. Maybe I didn't get that much because it was the lunch special, but it was definitely yummy and worth the trip. The chicken had a little too much general tso sauce on it, so I might have to tell them to make it with a little less sauce next time. The fried rice was pretty much standard when it comes to some carryout's fried rice. Nothing extra was added to it like onions, bean sprouts, or eggs, however it was delicious. You know the fried rice is good when you don't need any soy sauce to go along with it. I also got a pork egg roll and 3 whole chicken wings along with my order. The pork egg roll was meh. Nothing extravagant about it. Their whole chicken wings are pretty good, but they're definitely overpriced. 3 whole wings (that's the minimum count) for $4.65 is a ripoff. Their mambo sauce is not the greatest though. It has a nice consistency that's a perfect match for your wings or french fries where its not watered down or too thick, but it failed to meet the connection with it's sweet, tangy, and spicy taste. They also have a mini bar which is cool and I really like their old fashioned cash registers. If you need an ATM, use the one at the gas station or the one at the convenient store that's like 3 stores down. read more

Since there are such few reviews for my favorite Chinese restaurant I had to do it justice AGAIN. I have been eating here since I was a child and it still remains #1 in my long list of Chinese restaurants I have tried. My grandmother when I was around the young age of 10 would ALWAYS order Shrimp Egg Foo Young, Shrimp Lo Mein and Shrimp and Broccoli. (Yes, everything was shrimp but I can definitely vouch for their chicken as well.) I would eat everything except for the Egg Foo Young. My young pallette could never understand why someone would want to eat eggs and gravy but I would soon learn. Needless to say till this day I still order all of the same items my grandmother did. The Shrimp and Broccoli is definitely my favorite but you can't go wrong with any of the others choices. Their Egg Foo Young is the absolute best because of the gravy! If you order the Lo Mein add broccoli. Trust me! Your best deal is the lunch special. Lower than 8 bucks and you get a nice size portion. And don't forget the lemonade/tea mix. Get a large!! While traveling from NY to NC, we dropped into Wah-Sing to grab a quick lunch. What a mistake. The menu had a lot of items, but 2 lunch specials were an absolute bait-n-switch on the pricing, because they were priced at around $11-12 each on the menu, but the walk-out price was somewhere around $36 before tip. To top it all off, the food tasted like sh**. I couldn't believe how bad it was. I ended up throwing over half of my overcooked whatever away. I've been coming here for over 15 years and they're still on point. They're pretty pricey & stingy with the rice and I agree with a previous review, they need to accept credit/debit. Out of all their selections, the shrimp in broccoli & shrimp egg foo young are my fav!! So far, they have the best Shrimp broccoli in town hands down!!!! It's definitely not what I remembered when I lived around here nearly ten years ago, but it definitely gets you together in a pinch. They have a full bar and Miller High Life on draft...that's all I really have for the bar. It's no frills. I wasn't expecting much from my local carry out, but I was expecting a decent meal. It was hands down one of the worst steak and cheeses I've had. My bread was soggy, but tthe sandwich was dry. How did you manage to do that? I'm a firm believer in folks having bad nights so I tried it again (months later) and the beef lo mein didn't redeem the place. Oh well. At least I have Caviar, Uber Eats, Grubhub, etc to get me through now. read more

I grew up going here. It's a great local SE spot with bar and limited seating. Food is surprisingly good too. This place used to be the only one to sit and have a real meal with drinks East of the River. I love the Shrimp Egg Foo Young, Lo Mein noodles, and their fried rice is some of the best in the city. The beef and broccoli was amazing. The shrimp egg foo yung was always good. Now nothing really taste good. It all seems like leftovers for a couple days ago thrown in the microwave. After watching their interactions with the community. Im pretty sure they dont care who walks in. They barely greet you, they barely greet anymore. I was told by my friend this was the best Chinese place to eat at. After a long day he taken me this this place. I walked in to this place and something was ring in the back of my head. He order a beer. I order the pork fried rice and hot and sour soup. People was playing pool table and watching TV. People was coming in and out ordering mostly the wings and when I got my meal. The fired rice was bland. Hot and sour soup was tallest. Not hot or sour. I end up asking about this place again. He said my family mostly order the wing to go. :| Even it's my friend and still is. All these years and WahSing still serves up fresh food. I grew up in these parts and use to order a few carry out favorites from here. It had been a long while before my family decided to give it a try again after so many years. I love how the broccoli is just so fresh EVERY TIME I order a broccoli dish! The other cool thing. It looks like a hole in the wall from the outside. Ok it sorta is, but it's still nice and clean on the inside. You can dine in or sit at the bar with some of the local biz professionals here East of the River and talk ish about sports, local politics and more while sipping on a brew and chowing down on your shrimp and broccoli. read more

I HATE CARRY-OUT! But Wahsing is such a different experience! Everything is always super dumb fresh, and even better I can see them making my food. Every time I'm here I get the same 3 things.. haha. Shrimp friend rice, shrimp & mixed vegetables, or shrimp & broccoli (I'm going to turn into a shrimp). Their shrimp is always deveined which is a huge thing for me, and it's just simply delicious. I don't like their egg rolls, that have red cabbage that i don't really care for...... but LET ME TELLLLLL YOU! The spring rolls, *mouth watering*. I always get two and honestly, I'd be satisfied with that! The only thing I don't care for is the fact that they don't take Cards. I work in the area, so a friend and I stopped in for lunch one day. We got the Shrimp egg foo yung and General Tso's chicken lunch specials. They were very cheap, and ready quickly, but the food wasn't exemplary. The chicken was very good, but the egg foo yung had too many bean sprouts and tasted watery. The gravy was not too flavorful; more of an afterhtought. The rice however, was cooked to perfection. I'm sure if I try some other things it will be better, and I'm for sure going to stop by again! read more

The food is good but their prices are either inconsistent or just plain too expensive when you order any dish large size you will get a small side of rice if you order a egg which is less than 1 dollar in cost it's is an extra 2 bucks I ordered a large dinner dish and they gave me a small side of rice I paid an extra two bucks for egg and it just wasn't enough food for the same amount in New York or any other Chinese restaurant I would get a lot more just better tasting food. read more

This place is one of the few places that's been around for a long time. The food is clean - you can "see them cook your food and the facilities has sit down not only carryout. The only drawback is the wine selection -premium brand is Sutter Home, really? Don't expect much in that area. They do have restrooms, something not available in other restaurants. They Don't have the THICK GLASS, and perfect attitude - they could get carpet and spruce up the decor but they keep things moderate for community demand. read more

OK, I stand corrected. The Players Lounge is NOT the only full-service restaurant on the east side of the Anacostia River. Open since the early '80s, Wah Sing , a Randle Highlands (Ward 7) Chinese restaurant/dive not only serves alcohol, but actually has a bar! With seven stools and a plasma screen TV, it ain't much, but they do serve Miller High Life on draft ($2.75 a mug) and have little airplane bottles of alcohol in addition to wine. The dining area is reminiscent of an old diner: cheap booths and linoleum flooring (I think they do most of their food business in take out), but the food was surprisingly good and is apparently poplular with folks over at the Navy Yard. I had set my expectations low, but the Hunan beef with spring onions was damn tasty: tender pieces of beef with fire provided by dried chilies, and none of that cloying sweetness you get with a lot of Chinese-American take out joints. It's located on Pennsylvania Avenue just over the Sousa bridge from Capitol Hill. It's a short walk from Anacostia Park, so if you should find yourself in the neighborhood and in need of sustenance, stop on in. read more
