Typhoon Harbor shrimp still good (with shell on), and Peking duck is tasty as usual. Also tried their beef noodle (牛肉麵), delicious with chunks of tomato; beef very tender! Their black bean sauce fish filet is not too salty like other places, though the fish is coated in batter (we prefer just the fish, no coating). By their counter there is a T-shirt with the wording "DC's best restaurant" on it. A bit of a wait on Friday night even though the restaurant was entirely empty (a bit sad). Many people came to pick up their orders, though. It seems they are shifting to primarily serving pick up clients. I ordered on UberEats for self pick up. Downstairs at street level they display an old advertisement for baos from Tianjin. Once upstairs (after going through the sad staircase), one is greeted by walls of photos of politicians and celebrities who dined there.

This review is only for take-out. I've never heard of Hunan Dynasty until I was searching for "decent" Chinese restaurants in the Capitol Hill area. I was surprised by the online reviews from different platforms of how many Chinese locals raved about this place, so why not give it a try? I ordered a stir-fry Chicken cashew dish, eggplants, and a stir-fry beef with peppers. When I arrived at the restaurant for pick-up, I was surprised to see so many Chinese locals and neighborhood residents dining in-house. There was also a line of delivery drivers waiting to pick up food. Although the food took a long time, the server and boss were kind, asked me if I wanted to sit down and have some water while I waited. In terms of the food - the portion sizes were massive and delicious. Particularly the stir-fry beef with spicy peppers was so spicy which satiated my craving. I'd love to come back here and see what the dining experience is like.

Human dynasty is one of those dual restaurant that cater both to non-chinese that knows absolutely nothing of Chinese food except Americanized dishes and actual Chinese. However you cannot fault them for doing so as its proximity to the Capitol building. It's the default Chinese restaurant for people working close by. Btw there is a section of Chinese dish in the menu that caters to Chinese customers and they label them to be "authentic" Chinese dish. This place catered to many "celebrity" politicians as you can see from the photos. The restaurant has a tiny door that leads to upstairs space that's surprisingly roomy. The problem with a dual restaurant like this however is that they cannot predict the clienteles so you won't be getting fresh ingredients if you are a picky Chinese customer like me. For example the frogs they use are frozen frog legs which means they are basically tasteless and not fresh. The better idea is to order basic meat such as lamb, beef or pork but not fish nor frogs. The Peking duck is misleading as the photos show very authentic cuts but in reality it's basically wrong including using tortillas for wrap which I hate. Just use real wraps even if you don't know how to properly roast Peking duck. Of course it's a good place to go if you miss Peking duck and the price is not bad. I do like the services as it's attentive and I like the people working there.

Awesome, awesome spot. We stopped by for Sunday lunch after looking at cherry blossoms. No waiting = winning! My son loved the pepper steak. DIL loved (and thankfully shared) the new Bao. Daughter had steamed gyoza app, as she had brunch plans later. Wife had sweet and sour chicken and I had general tso chicken, and we both ordered "white meat only" which the chef delivered. Chicken was lean and crispy without the thick tempura style breading. Perfectly breaded. The spiciness and flavor of the general were perfect. Great lunch for 4.5, and only 100 bucks. With 2 lunches worth of leftovers. And, service was friendly, fast, and excellent. Highly recommend

This establishment has been growing on me. Solid and consistent in availability, price/value, and order readiness. While not the most flavorful you can find within a mile or two radius of the Capitol Hill area, it does hit the spot routinely with multiple repeat pick up and order deliveries. Favorite dish is the sweet and sour pork. They keep the sauce separate from the breaded pork. Always a plus in my book.

We came in for lunch after doing a tour at the Capitol Building. It wasn't busy, but as a group of 9, we had made a reservation just in case. We got hot tea to start. Tasted like a mixture of green and black tea. So good! For appetizers, we got veg spring rolls, some kind of fritter, crab Rangoon. The Rangoon was okay...didn't taste the best. I didn't get tired trying the spring rolls but the fritters (not sure what it was exactly) were delicious! I'd come back just for that! For entrees, we shared a bunch of things: sesame chicken and the tofu version, walnut shrimp, veg lo mein, stir fried pork belly, stir fried eggplant. I really like the lo mein and the sesame tofu. Delicious! The portion sizes were large. They were chunky pieces too. We were only able to finish one of the sesame chicken dishes and the lo mein. Overall, it's just Americanized Chinese food. Nothing special about it, but they have a lot of photos with legislators that have visited the restaurant so that's what the hype is about. Also, it's right across the street from the Capitol and library of congress so it's definitely an option for lunch around here.

Hunan Dynasty is a solid 4* Chinese restaurant in Capitol Hill, DC. I generally distinguish Chinese restaurants in the DMV in three categories: comfort style - takeout only, better-quality with dine-in option, and full service restaurant with higher quality. Hunan Dynasty falls between the latter. Their quality is good, although the execution of their fried rice is unlike what I am accustomed to with DMV fried rice. This fried rice is seems like lightly seasoned white rice with respects to flavor and texture. Nothing about it seems fried. On a couple occasions I ordered fried rice to determine if the quality I've received on previous visits was standard and each time they consistently produced fried rice with similar flavor and texture. I do appreciate that they have a section on the menu featuring authentic Chinese dishes. One of which is a favorite of mine, Triple Delight. After all these years of ordering it at many other Chinese restaurants I did not realize it was considered an authentic Chinese dish. I recognize their normal customers are most likely Congressmen, staffers on the Hill, and local government workers, so I understand why they offer traditional and non-traditional Chinese dishes. On my next visit I plan to try it. The lunch special options and chicken wings are delicious. The customer service is OK. The dining room is decorated and situated in typical Chinese restaurant fashion: tones of red, yellow, round tables and booth seating, and a fish tank at the front of the dining room. Overall, a very good experience and I will continue to dine here.

Attentive and fast service. This is our favorite spot for authentic Chinese food. A wide variety of choices on the menu and an array of vegetarian and pescatarian choices. Definitely recommend the plum wine and gyoza!

1/3 of the bill was taxes and fees. A little embarrassed that I didn't notice this before now.

Maybe time to rethink ordering from Uber Eats. My food order totalled around $60 and after taxes/fees/tip it was over $90. The only thing I can adjust is the tip and that doesn't seem fair to the driver. I'll be choosing a local delivery service or walking out my door from now on. Convenience isn't worth a 30% markup.

Food: Fried Rice - Good! Chicken is all white! Teriyaki Chicken - I'm not a fan, the chicken tasted weird to me. Super chewy. Not sure why. Establishment is cute! Take a look at my picture. Staff: SUPER Nice! Price: Moderate not cheap. These are not carry out prices. Overall, would return!

The service and value of this place can't be overstated. Our party of 4 arrived on a rainy afternoon for lunch. The lunch special, which I believe is Monday-Friday from opening until 2:30, included an entrée choice, choice of several types of rice, soup, and a veggie egg roll for $14. We were quickly seated and warmed up with some hot tea. The staff was extremely kind to our table, quickly took our order, and served our appetizers. The pacing of the meal was just right. I had the wonton soup and sesame chicken. Everything was very good with generous portions. My only complaint is I like my chicken and fried rice a little crispier.
