    Chicken with cashews

We ordered delivery from here tonight & were generally happy. One plus was that they have their own delivery folks, which means the guy actually did what we asked--put the food at the top of our staircase & rang the doorbell. We started with fried pork dumplings. We liked them. For our main course we had 2 kinds of chicken. The chicken with cashews was excellent, with crispy celery. The General Tso chicken wasn't as good

Had a late evening and decided to get carry out; ordered online and the food was made quickly and ready when we arrived. The workers were so kind and double checked our food to make sure we had everything before we left, (without even being asked to!). The portions were large and my Dad claims 'that was the best orange chicken I've ever had.' Would highly recommend and would eat here again!

Pricey but fast and pretty good. The sesame chicken was yummy, the crab ragoon was pretty good, ribs were pretty good. I didn't like the pad Thai at all though. It seems a bit overpriced, but it was quick and easy and pretty good overall.

I have been living on Capitol Hill for 12 years now but I've never try this place. Today I had a chance to go here to order SINGAPORE NOODLE to go for lunch. Actually it was very good. It's full of curry flavor and spicy enough for me and also plenty of proteins such as pork, shrimp, chicken, and beef and very generous with bell peppers. The rice noodle was cooked perfectly. I asked for chili oil on the side and they have me gave me a plenty. I waited less than 10 minutes for my order, that's very quick and it was still very hot when I got home. I totally will come back to this 8th street SE gem!

I ate half the food before I found this. Gross. Wtf is this. Thank goodness I didn't chew it.

There was a piece of metal in my shrimp lo mein. I'll never eat here again. I ate half the plate before I found this. Wtf is this?

So not the fanciest second floor restaurant I've been in, but the place was clean, the service good and the food tasty. They must make their money on take out because the place was empty. Wasn't sure we wanted to stay, but glad we did. All dishes were really tasty and plentiful. Chinese spicy is not really spicy so don't be fooled by the suggestion that the food is spicy- it is not. Only down side is that they do not serve alcohol. I'll have no problem returning.

Ordered delivery and it is now close to an hour late. No one is answering the phone. I have no idea if it's coming or if there's an issue.

Solid Chinese takeout in the Hill. Orange chicken is one of the better dishes. Important note: you can can't dine in.

The challenge of the menu is its size: it includes old school standards that your father may have ordered, yet has some much more interesting and tongue-tingling szechuan options also. So it behooves the diner to take time to read through thr long menu carefully and to order selectively. Service is efficient and special requests are handled with grace, rather than the eye rolling of their peers. We first ordered crispy beef, which wws well executed with the beef shreds still juicy despite their crackle coating. The sauce had a mild bit of chili heat and subtle sweetness, and was generously salted with a medley of julienned veggies. Our second dish was General Tao Chicken, which is more commonly known as General Tso. It was again, a very well executed version of what has become a popular classic, with perfectly coated and fried nuggets of tender chicken breastfeeding in a sweet and spicy sauce served with broccoli and chili peppers. Sichuan Pavilion is very snug, amd something of a "rabbit warren" with a series of rooms connected by tight pathways. Tables can be small, so try to book in advance. Also, some of the best dishes are the more traditional szechuan style, do take the time to ask your server about them and be prepared for some heat.

Our server immediately greeted us with a great big smile, she took our drink orders and described some of the drinks to us. We put in an order for 2 spring rolls and 2 eggs rolls which were to die for. Perfectly crunchy, crispy, and full of flavor with great dipping sauce! They came out piping hot and delicious. I also got egg drop soup which simply cannot be beat. The soup was not too thick and not too thin or watery. The green onions were fresh. The crisped wontons had just the right amount of crunch. Together the dish was savory and delightfully flavorful. Now, my guest can often be difficult to please (as food must be extremely specific), but it's not ever usually a problem that a "good restaurant" can't handle. They handled it perfectly. We got the chicken with two winter veg, no sauce or mushrooms and add water chestnuts. It came out exactly that way. Perfect. Not only perfect but steamed to perfection. I also got the chicken w winter veggies--with sauce-- which is a brown gravy. What can I say OTHER than it was also perfect!! The meat was cooked to tender, not dry. The veggies were bright and deliciously tender, but still had a gentle crunch (the ultimate dish style!). My husband got the orange chicken and the spice was absolutely divine. The orange chicken sauce was pungent and sweet. If you like heat, this one is for you!! The chicken was crispy under the layer of aromatic, REAL orange flavored sauce. My other guest got the Mandarin combination plate, which featured a host of veggies, surf and turf meats, and a spicy brown sauce on top. Again, meat and veg cooked to perfect tenderness, with the veggies snapping and crunching just enough but tender enough to enjoy. Drinks were a teapot for the table (which may have been a bit strong for my guests, but I drank it!) A coconut punch (non alcoholic), which is a virgin iced Pina Colada. I didn't expect that, but I still guzzled it down. It came in a parrot glass, too!! So fun!! The rest of the table got coke and tea and were just as good. (Yes I tried everything). And we came here because we've been seeing their really amazing TikToks and want to contribute to bringing this WONDERFUL restaurant back into the folds of the community and wrap them in support. I'd give them 10 stars if I could.

If a place delivers strong execution, quality flavors, and exceeds expectations for what it is trying to be, that earns a top rating from me. Chili Wok did exactly that. We recently visited Alexandria and had an excellent meal from start to finish. Everything we ordered was flavorful, well prepared, and arrived tasting fresh and intentional. The soup dumplings were a standout. The wrappers held together nicely, the filling was savory and juicy, and each bite had that satisfying burst of broth you hope for when ordering them. The fried rice was also very well done. It had great wok flavor, proper texture, and did not feel greasy or heavy, which is where many places miss the mark. The sweet and sour ribs were another highlight. They had a great balance of sweetness and tang, with tender meat and enough texture to keep them interesting. A dish that can sometimes feel one note was handled really well here. Beyond the food, the overall experience was strong. When every dish lands and nothing disappoints, that says a lot about the consistency of the kitchen. Overall, Chili Wok delivered exactly what I hope for in this category: flavorful food, solid technique, and an enjoyable dining experience. Easy 5 stars, and I would gladly return.

However, my opinion changed when my wife and I dined in the restaurant for the first time. It will not be our last. What drove me to dine in was the ambience I observed when I picked up a previous takeout order. It was a really nice place, with neat décor, plenty of seating, and a serving staff that was obviously attentive. This remained my impression when we came here for the first time recently. Contrary to our takeout orders, the food blew us away when it was fresh from the kitchen. Perhaps this was because we ordered different things, or perhaps because what we ordered to-go (e.g., fried eggplant, Szechuan chicken) did not travel well. Whatever the case, but this was some of the best Chinese food we have eaten in a long time. For appetizers we ordered the puffy scallion pancake, which was fun to tear and share, and came with some very nice curry sauce or dipping. We also ordered the pork soup dumplings, which were everything you could want in a soup dumpling - piping hot with a warm, soul-soothing broth inside (but which does not travel particularly well in takeout orders). For our entrees, my wife ordered the duck fried rice. I am not the biggest fan of fried rice, but this was some of the best I ever had. The duck favor was prominent but not overwhelming and the pineapple was the best integrated I have ever experienced in a savory dish. I had leftover for lunch today and it was still quite good. I ordered the fish in chili oil, a bubbling, soupy dish covered in peppers. This was phenomenal, an excellent balance of heat, numbing, and flavor. And there was plenty of fish in the dish, as well. I will be hard pressed not to order this every time we come here in the future. We split the fried green beans (solid - crisp and well spiced), which I ate for breakfast over rice with some of the leftover fish. Again, it was still good. As my previous comments imply, serving sizes are large.

These dishes were way too spicy for me, should have heeded the warning when there are 3 chili symbols on the menu: chili fish, szechuan chicken.
