    Garlic Eggplant Rice Bowl
    Andrea A.

Dan Dan Boy is one of the many food options at Union Market. Attracted by the delicious smells, I got the garlic eggplant rice bowl bc I can never pass up Sichuan eggplant. But tbh, it was a little disappointing. The flavor just was not consistent with what I've gotten at other Sichuan restaurants for the same dish- way too vinegary and the sauce was too liquidy. There were a ton of other veggies in there, which I'd normally appreciate, but just didn't do it for me here. The dish got a little better with chili oil. The Union Market ambiance is really nice, but I will say we went for lunch on a weekday & it was packed, it was pretty hard to find some seating. Service was fine. 5/10 would not recommend the eggplant dish, perhaps their noodles are better.

Had a great meal with the chicken and noodle soup. I got the dish for my little one, so I made sure to ask if it was spicy or not. It definitely looked spicier than it actually ended up being. It had great flavor with good depth to the broth. The noodles do feel hand-pulled, so that's always a nice touch. I don't know how well the noodles travel because it kind of just sits in the broth, but if you want to eat at the Yards Park, it should make for a delicious meal!

Cute shop inside Union Market. They offer weekly specials in addition to their regular menu. I opted for their beef noodle soup. The noodles were the right amount of chewy and I absolutely loved their broth. It had a hint of spiciness and was incredibly flavorful. Unfortunately, the beef in my beef noodle soup had a lot of fat on it, which made it less appetizing to eat. However, I really appreciate that they did give me three large chunks of beef with my order! Service was quick and everyone was really friendly.

The service was quick and the hand pulled noodles were delicious! I got the (less) spicy stew chicken and the entire dish was well balanced in all the flavors and textures. I would definitely come back and want to try a rice dish!

Delicious authentic Sichuan style beef noodle with huge chunks of cooked-through tender (melt in your mouth) beef (and high quality meat). Not spicy in fact but very tasty. Love their logo too (it's a person's hair made of noodle, being scooped up by chopsticks). There's a bit of a wait once order is placed, probably because they make everything fresh to order which is a plus. Love their bowl of noodle model (made of plastic) on the counter.

I went with the Dan Dan noodles. They had a large portion of meat and just a healthy serving in general. I felt it was overly salty and the noodles seemed like spaghetti noodles. The service was quick and friendly. There is seating all around within Union Market, both inside and outside.

We ordered Dan Dan Boy at Union Market to try something new. I love eggplant, so I chose the eggplant dish. The flavors were great, but it was overall a little greasier than I expected. My husband got the Dan Dan noodles, which were great! I loved the combination of textures and flavors. Service is pretty quick. You order at the counter and wait for about 10 min. There is sometimes a line, and Union Market is always busy! You can eat outside at picnic tables or on the roof at Hi Lawn.

I am very happy there is a spot with Chinese glass noodles in Union Market. They were sour and yummy. The mapo tofu was odd - a different style altogether and not really to my liking. I wish I could eat gluten and eat their dumplings. There was an older Asian woman making each dumpling by hand. They seemed delicious!

The restaurant industry is hard and Yelp can make it more or less difficult. Because of that, I try to be kind in my reviews, even when giving the rare one-star rating. Sadly, my experience at Dan Dan Boy was a one star episode. It's possible they had an off day so read this with a grain of salt. 1) Food: I ordered the Dan Dan noodles assuming it was their speciality given the name. Obsessed with these noodles, I've had my share around the world, in D.C., and while living in Beijing. Dan Dan Boy's are the worst I've had. The noodles were over cooked and literally spaghetti noodles. The pork was very dry and chunky with odd texture. The flavors were non-existent, masked a pool of oil that took over the entire bowl. Even the green onions tasted poorly. 2) Price: My bowl of Dan Dan noodles cost $18- a steep price for a bowl that tasted not great. With many other worthy food stands at Union Market, I'd reconsider Dan Dan Boy. I will go back, though, to see if it was just an off day.

Was skeptical going here because of less than 4 star ratings, but was really craving Dan Dan noodles. I'm admittedly very easy to please when it comes to food, but my girlfriend and I thought this was a great meal. We got the Dan Dan noodles with ground pork, and the dumplings of the day which were turkey. Both were delicious and filling! A little pricey for a quick bite, it was like $31 after tax and tip for those 2 things, but that's DC. Food came out quickly and tasted fresh. Maybe wish there was some greens in the noodles, I think bok choy was extra.

If a place delivers strong execution, quality flavors, and exceeds expectations for what it is trying to be, that earns a top rating from me. Chili Wok did exactly that. We recently visited Alexandria and had an excellent meal from start to finish. Everything we ordered was flavorful, well prepared, and arrived tasting fresh and intentional. The soup dumplings were a standout. The wrappers held together nicely, the filling was savory and juicy, and each bite had that satisfying burst of broth you hope for when ordering them. The fried rice was also very well done. It had great wok flavor, proper texture, and did not feel greasy or heavy, which is where many places miss the mark. The sweet and sour ribs were another highlight. They had a great balance of sweetness and tang, with tender meat and enough texture to keep them interesting. A dish that can sometimes feel one note was handled really well here. Beyond the food, the overall experience was strong. When every dish lands and nothing disappoints, that says a lot about the consistency of the kitchen. Overall, Chili Wok delivered exactly what I hope for in this category: flavorful food, solid technique, and an enjoyable dining experience. Easy 5 stars, and I would gladly return.

I was in the Del Ray area and decided to give it a try, and I'm glad I did. On the drive home, the aroma of the Ganghood chicken filled the car and had me eager to dig in. Even after about a 20-minute drive, the chicken was still tender with a light crisp. The seasoning was spot on, with the perfect balance of heat and that signature Szechuan peppercorn numbness. The only downside was that the rice portion was a bit small. The dan dan noodles were also very good--well coated in sauce and mixed nicely with the minced pork. Service was quick, the staff was friendly, and the prices were very reasonable. If you're a fan of spicy Chinese food or dishes with a numbing peppercorn kick, this place is definitely worth trying. I'd happily come back again.

I ordered the Singapore noodles, which were packed with flavor and loaded with beef, chicken, and shrimp. The portion was so big that it honestly could be split between two people. I barely put a dent in it while I was there and ended up taking most of it home and eating off it for a while afterward. But the real showstopper is the bottomless drinks. For $18, you get bottomless Mai Tais, lemon drops, and mimosas, and the best part is they do it all day, not just during brunch hours. You can pull up at 7 p.m., get dinner, and still do bottomless drinks, which is something you don't see very often. Between the massive portions, the flavor, and the all-day bottomless option, Han Palace is an easy five out of five for me. If you're in DC and haven't been here yet, this is a must-go spot.

I hope that there are more choices like this in the near future for this surrounding area which lacks good traditional Chinese restaurants. The parking can be daunting since it still is in DC, might have a bit of a walk but that is everywhere in DC. The food was fast and had some unique choices that are not on a standard menu.
