Okay - 4 months have passed since my last review of New Dynasty so it's time for an update. The hot & sour soup is still the best I have ever had anywhere in the world. The egg rolls are crispy but not too oily - and they're delicious on top of that! I also had some beef and broccoli and it was super good too. The flavor was savory, strong and pure. The broccoli was crispy, the beef was moist. No thickening flavor like flour or corn starch was evident in its tasty sauce. It wasn't even too salty. Go figure! So, it's surprising that a place that looks so old and dirty can churn out such great tasting food BUT NEW DYNASTY DOES!!! I have to admit that the people at the ordering counter are pretty darn friendly too. Please do not avoid New Dynasty because of the way the outside looks. As your mama told you time and again, it is what's inside that counts. And inside New Dynasty, the food is really, really good! read more

I only got takeout, but it will be the ONLY place I get takeout from for my sesame chicken, egg rolls, and lo mein from now. You can request all white meat chicken (with a small upcharge) which my mom and I appreciate. But everything was exactly what I am looking for in a chinese-american spot. This little diamond in the rough is gem to the city of Washington, DC if you have not tried it you are missing out. Their General Tao Chicken is chef's kiss to perfection. I had the steamed green beans and they were cooked just like I like them steam with a snap but not over cooked. Their plain fried rice was flavorful and robust with carrots and green onions and peas. It's a small but quaint place to dine for a special date. The best Chinese take out I've ever had. The service was friendly and quick. Definitely will be back to diamond. I'm always looking for quick spots to grab food, and really enjoyed their veggie lo mein. The service was great, and the manager was very kind. Such a great fast food Chinese spot. It's a small location super casual just a great location to get some Chinese food to go. They do have indoor seating if you'd like to eat there. Various menu options it was hard to choose what we wanted for dinner. Everything on the menu sounded delicious but we went with the more popular basic options since you can't go wrong with lomein and fried rice. We used our student discounts and received complimentary won ton soups, bring your student ID and they will give you the option of a free soup or soda. Complimentary white rice also came with our order. The workers were so nice here and there recommendations did not disappoint. Every dish here was full of flavor and of good quality. Tip: If you enjoy spicy ask for their chili oil sauce it has a great kick! read more

The steamed dumplings come 8 to an order and had wonderful hints of garlic and ginger with carrots and cabbage with a soy sauce and scallion sauce, the spring rolls were perfectly crispy and the hot mustard packets were high quality- delicious. The peanuts in the kung pao chicken were roasted well and had great crunch. Also enjoyed Shrimp Lo mein, Combo fried Rice, Szechuan chicken and Szechuan beef. Ever since moving to San Diego I've really missed east coast American Chinese food (it's just a style we don't really have there), so of course it was one of the first things I looked up on Yelp when I was in town for a visit. I got General Tso's chicken, lo mein, and cheese wontons. The chicken and the lo mein were exactly what I was looking for; the "American Chinese takeout" flavors were perfect and really hit the spot! The cheese wontons had mozzarella inside instead of the cream cheese I was expecting; the mozz wasn't bad but I prefer cream cheese filling and the dough was also a little tough. All in all though, my meal was super satisfying and nostalgic. The man working the front of the house was busting his tail (the place was full of diners and there was a constant stream of takeout/delivery orders), but he was still very friendly and kind. Ordered my food at 12:08pm, food was done at 12:11pm. First red flag but didn't notice it until I got to the corner and thought about it. I got back to work and started to eat and the food taste bland and old. Shrimp was very chewy and the sauce had no flavor even though I asked for it to be spicy. Even the fried rice was bland and clumpy. Maybe it was left over from yesterday. But will not be going back there. read more

The restaurant is small and cozy, with classic Asian dishes and combos made up of shrimp, chicken, beef or vegetables with rice or lo mein noodles. They also have a variety of special dishes available to order! I tried the chicken lo mein and an order of general tso's chicken. The chicken lo mein was wonderful! If you like Chinese takeout, Dupont Circle's new Dynasty does a good job. When my family of three did a staycation at a nearby hotel, we ordered pick up via Uber Eats and it was ready within 15 minutes of ordering on a Friday evening. To feed the three of us, we ordered wonton soup, Mongolian Beef, General Tsao's Chicken and Orange Chicken. The three main dishes came with steamed rice. Each was tasty, but the winner was the General Tsao's Chicken. The Mongolian Beef was good, but it was mainly onions with little beef. It was my first time trying true blue Americanized Chinese food and I was genuinely surprised to see a Chinese family whipping up such dishes. I ordered the mixed fried rice and also got chicken corn soup for free after checking in with Yelp. I was pleasantly surprised by how fast the food was ready. The cashier was super nice and friendly, and the restaurant was clean and cozy. The mixed fried rice was amazing and filling, with a generous portion of chicken, beef, and shrimp. The chicken corn soup was not so good though. It was free so I can't complain. I would recommend skipping the chicken and corn soup and trying the hot and sour soup. Omg! I used to love this place, I'd travel near and far (35 miles in Maryland) to get here... but today... It's been months since I've dined here, and today is the day (that I find a new spot)! The ambiance and friendly service is still great, but the food...not so much (sadly). My signature spicy shrimp fried rice was terrible! First of all, the rice was hard! Secondly, there were no bean sprouts or green onions in the rice. Thankfully, they re-cooked the rice to add the onions, but said they didn't have any bean sprouts...what!!!??? Fried rice with no bran sprouts!? It's a sad day in Chinese food takeout! Anyway, the rice was bland and lacking any favorable. Just like my thoughts are lacking any desire to rerurn. I'm so sad at how bad New Dynasty has gotten. This was my go to Chinese place when I first moved to DC. Ordered the general tso chicken which was nothing special. I got orange chicken which was decent, but surprisingly lacking in flavor. I got it with a side of Lo mein ($2 extra) and that was arguably the worst lo mein I've ever had. Completely devoid of any flavor other than grease. We ordered two orders of crab rangoons since I live crab rangoons, and they were terrible. The outer part was over cooked and you could barely bite into them. The filling had also clearly spilled out from over frying as their was no cream cheese inside whatsoever. The veggie spring roll was the only good thing that I ate on a $75 purchase. We won't be back. read more

I ordered chicken eggplant. It was deliciously seasoned and better than I expected for a take out place. You order at the counter and pay and get your own water cup. I chose to eat in so it is fresh out of a hot wok. The food was delivered to the table by a friendly lady. It looks like this is a mama and papa shop. I recommend this place and will be back again. Really good Chinese place for DC. DC doesn't have a lot of great options for Chinese takeout. This is definitely one of the better ones. I ordered the Hong Kong noodles with shrimp. Good flavor, consistent texture and taste. I ordered steamed rice on the side, and I was surprised that it was cooked fresh. (Other Chinese takeout places will usually deliver dry or overcooked rice). Steamed side vegetables are also great, broccoli was cooked well. (I would find in most other Chinese takeout places undercooked broccoli). One thing I didn't like, , the crispy eggroll. I didn't really appreciate the flavor (kinda bitter), and I thought the cabbage was undercooked. $15.95 just for the noodle dish, expensive given the quality. read more

I love DC, but I'm always saddened by how hard it is to find good sesame tofu here (tho someone please correct me if I'm missing any great spots!). That crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside, abundantly sauced and sprinkled with sesame seeds, tofu. New dynasty has it. It's not the best that I've ever had, granted, but it is solidly good. I love that you can exchange the side of white rice for a small fee, and there are so many different options (veg fried rice is excellent here, worth the $2.50 upcharge). Not only is the food good, but the workers are kind and patient, and very helpful with deciding what to order. The flavor profiles might not match, but I enjoy this place so much that I'll grab an order of sesame tofu even right after getting nachos at the nearby mission. EVERYTHING was fresh and delicious. The rice was well seasoned and just so tasty. The spring rolls were fresh and crunchy. The serving was plentiful and satisfying. I would definitely recommend. Apologies for not having any photos to show. I was so hungry, I didn't even take a picture! Lol... The one (minor) negative was that you have to request for plastic ware. I didn't realize this until it was too late and had to flag down someone in my hotel for a fork. It's a minor inconvenience, but I thought I should mention it. As a Chinese American who has eaten a lot of Chinese food, I must say this meal exceeded my expectations. We got Hong Kong style noodles with chicken - simple and tasty - really hit the spot as I was craving noodles but didn't want lo mein. The chicken and string beans were on point! We really liked it as the string beans were not overcooked/fried, and we could tell they were fresh (but not squeaky/undercooked) - this came with a side of white rice. In D.C. for work. I have been missing decemt Chinese food since moving to Northwest FL 9 years ago. New Dynasty wasn't mind blowing, but it was as good as any I had growing up in Chicago. It really hit the spot. My General Tso's was just the right amount of heat, not overly bland like most Americanized Chinese food. I also ordere beef in garlic sauce for tomorrow night, since it refrigerates better than breaded chicken. Ordered through Uber Eats, so it was a little more expensive than I would like, but I get it and it doesn't change my review.
