I have heard about this place from my friends. It had been a while since we had seen our friend. So we decided to checkout this place for lunch. They have a nice selection of Indian food from various regions of India. However, if I had to pick one region that dominated the menu, I would pick Mumbai. We ordered a bunch of food such as chicken spicy wrap, Kerala parotta with chicken curry, egg sandwich, samosa chaat, dabeli and vada paav. Sounds like a lot but since all of us were hungry, we were able to eat most of it. Everything was good. If I had to pick one item that I wouldn't order again would be the chicken curry. The flavors were off. Dabeli was my favorite along with the egg sandwich. You have to order at the front. They then bring you the food. Ambiance is good. Nothing too fancy. My partner and I brought our family here for brunch on a whim before a day of exploring DC, since they love proper Desi chaat and also usually make omelettes for weekend brunch at home. I had a good feeling about the food and we were not disappointed! I tried the Paneer Toofani grilled sandwich, which I loved. Served with chips, the paneer filling was saucy and spicy but not overly so, and the soft paneer contrasted nicely with the crunchy veggies. Overall we also tried the Surti Gotalo, Desi Omelette, and Egg Bhurji, all of which were tasty and cooked through (the way our family likes it). I recently went here for a weekday lunch and got the tandoori chicken with rice to go. The portion size and price were reasonable for downtown DC. Despite the restaurant being fairly quiet, it took a while for my food to arrive. The chicken was charred to black in some places; otherwise it was juicy, well-seasoned, and well-cooked. The chicken-to-rice ratio was fantastic, with lots of chicken and not too much rice. The rice was perfectly cooked, and the lime and onions added freshness to the dish. Huge menu selection with all kinds of flavors and tastes for an array of palates. You can make the food Indian spicy or keep it mild. The food is absolutely mindblowingly delicious--flavorful, unique, fresh ingredients, and generous portions for the price and location. A warm welcome to the neighborhood for EggHolic! I waited in line for a bit to order, but the staff was so thankful for the wave of customers who came on opening day. It all turned out to be okay since I needed a while to figure out what I wanted to eat. The menu could be quite overwhelming at first because there's so much and everything sounds great! Of course, I had to get something with eggs. I got the Toofani Curry, which had pieces of hard boiled egg in a spicy gravy. It's lloaded with spices and was a decent heat level. I also found plenty of pieces of egg mixed in. I chose the two pieces of roti over the bread that comes with it. The portion of curry was more than enough for me. I ended up stretching it to two more meals with rice. For dessert, I tried the rose falooda, a nice refresher on a warm day. I can't wait to come back and try more things. All the different sections of the menu have something for everyone. There is plenty of seating for groups inside. I got my meal to-go and the curry was well packaged. read more

Overall the restaurant was very clean especially the bathroom given being located in DC. However the food was mediocre at best but the concept of the restaurant is very unique. I really liked the egg theme of the menu but the delivery was a bit of a miss. I ordered the butter masala chicken for $18 and given the price you would think it comes with rice or bread but it did not, I had to order those items additionally (Heads up: the bread is plain white bread) The food was a bit tasteless and bland. One of my friends got the chicken masala sandwich which was notably better. Given the unique concept of the restaurant I would greatly appreciate a bit of explanation from the staff on how to order. read more

EggHolic is hands down the best restaurant that I've tried in DC all year. It's an Indian restaurant that serves mostly vegetarian food, but also has meat options, which I believe is halal. We got two types of grilled cheese sandwiches and they were perfect in every way. My first visit to Eggholic was on their opening day. Got food to go simply becuase I was with co-workers and our office is a half block away, but the inside has a nice fast casual atmosphere. I started with the Cheese Katori which two hard-boiled eggs sliced in half, yolks scooped out and mixed with a mild Indian curry and topped with a mild cheese. The dish was different, flavorful and a good starter. The only thing I might wonder is if it would be better to warm the prepared eggs up a bit to get the cheese a little melty and bring out more of its flavor. But overall a good first bite impression. For a main dish I had the Gotalo 2.0. This is grated hard boiled eggs, mixed with fried egg(s)(ie: over easy) and cooked with onions, tomatoes, green chilies (mild) and a variety of herbs and spices that blend together to make a really flavorful gravy like sauce. Really great and definitely would try again. The only downside to my 1st meal from there was the Roti (a thin indian flat bread typically made from whole wheat flour). This comes 2 pieces to an order and is included with the main dish (although you can also get white bread or rice instead). The roti wasn't bad, it just didn't have a heck of a lot of flavor, but that could be intentional due to the variety of flavors in all the other dishes. Either that or I just like naan or kulcha better. My first visit was with two co-workers who enjoyed what they had as well. Not sure of the names of their dishes, but we all shared tastes and at least from my perspective, everything was really enjoyable. Couple of notes: while the name is Eggholic and everything we ordered on this first trip did have egg as a key ingredient they do have a number of dishes that are Egg-less. Some are made with Chicken as the main ingredient, some with cheese and some with just vegetables, so they do have vegan options. The other thing to note is that this is an Indian Street Food menu, so pretty different from what mostmay be used to when it comes to food from the Indian subcontinent. It's different AND delicious. Genius place. Fills a niche I had no idea existed but now don't know how I lived without. Simple, cheap Indian food, not with the typical emphasis on meats and sauces...they do things with eggs that I could never have imagined. I've been here 3 times since the grand opening. Definitely 5 stars for each visit! The service has always been very friendly and attentive, and the food was delicious. What I like most about this place is that it's very different than other Indian options in DC. This is "street style" food, inspired by dishes available in the western state of Gujarat. The staff have always taken the time to explain things given that this is a new-ish concept for the DC area. Most of all, I'm so excited that they're in DC - saving me a 20 mile drive to their other location in Chantilly (which is equally as good). read more
