Chaat fries and Paneer Tikka Masala pizza
    Sarah A.

OMG! SO GOOD! The paneer tikka masala pizza is to DIE for. And so are the chaat fries. Put the fries on the pizza for an extra big back bite. I have no feedback for improvement, but I do wish there was extra sauce in the pizza and fries (but they're AMAZING as is!!!!!) the bathroom could be a little nicer and they could use some light cleaning of the windowsills but nothing that made me uncomfortable about the food

Curry & Pie is absolutely phenomenal! If you are looking for tasty, generous portions of authentic Indian food in Georgetown, look no further. I had been meaning to try Curry & Pie for a while and was so excited to pop in for dinner on a weeknight. My friend and I were starving, so we decided to split a Paneer Tikka Pizza (extra hot!) alongside a delicious Shrimp Curry. These two were INCREDIBLE. The shrimp was cooked well and was perfectly spiced in a rich curry. I was so impressed at the size of the large prawns - talk about a a great deal for $16. The paneer pizza was cheesy and so flavorful. A must-try! The ambiance is a classic Georgetown row house and provides mostly upstairs seating. Nice tables and plenty of space for solo or group dining. The service was very accommodating and I appreciate the staff making sure we were cool on such a hot summer evening. Cannot wait to come back to Curry & Pie soon!

Cool spot I stumbled across. I thought "Curry and pie" was a cool concept. FYI it's Pizza pie not sweet pies lol. I just had the veggie pakoras which were nicely seasoned fried veggies that come with some nice sauces. Great looking menu. Nice enough staff. I'd come back to try something else.

I think this place is tad bit over hyped, in my opinion. The experience didn't start off great right off the bat. We were a party of 5 and the person we spoke to initially all but told us to leave because they couldn't accommodate us. He suggested we to take away instead. We understand that it's a very small place with limited seating, but we didn't mind waiting. As we were discussing what to do, another person came out and told us they could seat us if we could wait 15-20 minutes. We eventually got seated and ordered our food. The chicken momo's were nothing special and under seasoned. The mango ginger fizz was delicious but it's mostly ice and not worth the cost. The pizzas were good though. Very greasy but good. Beware of the spice level that you order - their spicy is spicy so proceed with caution. For us, the medium was perfect, the spicy was too much to enjoy the food. Service was ok. Once we ordered we were kind of forgotten about until we had to track someone down for the check.

Curry Pie is a hidden gem! When you walk in, you head upstairs to dine--it's cozy and quaint, the kind of spot that feels like a well-kept secret. I ordered the chicken tikka masala and saag aloo (spinach and potatoes), which they kindly customized for me since I prefer my spinach without paneer. I asked for it spicy, and they delivered! When I tell you it was absolute perfection, I mean it. Every bite was packed with flavor and danced on my taste buds. The garlic naan--cut into fours--was hands down the best I've ever had. I love Indian food and have eaten a lot of it, and this naan set a new standard. I am glad I have a 15-minute walk back to my car to walk the food down. I'm already planning to come back. Truly superb.

    Chaat Street Fries

Walking around Georgetown and can't decide between pizza or Indian? Try this spot and get both! Full disclaimer-- this place has a lot of steep stairs and isn't handicap or cane friendly since it's an old row house. I was guided to the top floor and waited ten minutes before service, but the Chaat Street Fries (served with seasoning salt and multiple chutneys) and Mango Chicken pizza were worth the wait. Plus, leftovers!

I came here because I heard it was halal, and I love good fusion food. The pizza is exceptional, dare I say it's the best in dc for a comfortable pizza eating. The curry is just alright, but I'm Pakistani so my standards are naturally high; I'll say that they do load you up on meat in the curries. Service is good. One time, the server messed up the pizza and immediately offered a new one, with a bunch of apologies. He also offered gulab jaman (I haven't had any this good in ages). Ambiance is great. It's small but I've never had an issue getting a table for my party. Great place for a cozy dinner. The location is good too, I don't have issues finding parking in Georgetown near their location

    Menu

This is a hidden gem. The food is excellent. The salmon Doan was wonderfully flavorful. The atmosphere is private and homey. The menu is fairly diverse. Lots of vegetarian options.

    Lettuce Wrap (Chicken, $6.95)
    Kristen H.

Located on a side avenue off of Georgetown's ever-busy M Street, Curry & Pie is an Georgetown institution to both students and residents alike, serving up generous portions of Indian-fusion fare at low prices! The actual restaurant looks like it's actually a repurposed house, with both downstairs and upstairs seating. The space is cramped, but clean and well-lit, with lots of natural lighting flowing in from the windows! My party of six stopped in on a Saturday at around 1pm, and were seated almost immediately. You scan a QR code to see the menu, which is chock-full of more traditional Indian classics (Chicken Momos, Paneer Makhani, etc.) to Americanized Indian food (Butter Chicken, Garlic Naan, etc.) to wacky Indian-American fusion (most notably: Chicken Tikka Masala Pizza, anyone?). I ordered their Lettuce Wrap with Chicken ($6.95), and my friends ordered the Chicken Momos ($6.95 for 5), Chicken Tikka Masala ($15.95), Paneer Makhani ($14.95), Naan ($2.95), Garlic Naan ($3.45), and their Chicken Tikka Masala Pizza ($11.95 for a personal-sized pizza). Our orders all came out within 15 minutes: my Lettuce Wraps ($6.95 w/ chicken, shrimp for an extra cost) came with a generous portion of chicken marinated in a spiced sauce, served with a refreshingly acidic cilantro-based sauce on the side! The chicken was breast meat, but it wasn't dry at all - in fact, it was quite tender, and the sauce was flavorful. The veggies and lettuce also tasted fresh - a delicious pick for a healthier choice, and a great value! I didn't try the Chicken Momos ($6.95), but my friend cited that the wrappers were dry, and the filling tasted store-bought. They came with a "secret momo sauce" for dipping, though it was apparently quite salty. Probably a skip for next time! The Chicken Tikka Masala ($15.95) comes with quite a generous portion of the classic dish, as well as a side (or should I say: mountain) of rice. The breast meat came in large, tender chunks that soaked up the well-spiced sauce, and the rice was soft and fluffy. Everyone that ordered this as an entree had to take leftovers home, since the portion is so large! I didn't try the Paneer Makhani ($14.95) either, but my friend enjoyed the soft, mild cheese paired with a brightly creamy tomato sauce with spices, and said it was delicious paired with her side of rice! Since my friends weren't aware of the fact that their entrees came with rice, they also ordered the Naan ($2.95) and the Garlic Naan ($3.45). Each naan dish comes with four large pieces, so it's a great value, though my friends said the Naan was a bit dry (even though it's basted with butter), and the Garlic Naan was overly greasy/oily, with a pool of oil at the bottom of the dish. They enjoyed dipping it in their curry, however! Finally, my last friend ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala Pizza ($11.95) - for a personal size, it's quite large (noticing a theme here?). She enjoyed the unique combination of flavors, but cited that there isn't a ton of Indian flavor in the pizza, nor much chicken on top, and the crust was a bit doughy for her liking. It's a novel concept, but not a must-get here. Overall, we enjoyed our meal at Curry & Pie - nothing here is an absolute must-try, but the portions are big, the food is solid, and service is friendly and fast. A great spot in Georgetown for some cheap eats!

We came on a Friday afternoon, which seemed like good timing since the last time we tried to go here, they had to send us away bc of a big order. The pizza was almost cracker like, and was a good blend of cheese with Indian sauce and spices. We ordered one mango lassi and was given a complimentary one, too. Ambiance is a bit awkward; order up front first, then climb up narrow stairs to a small dining room. Overall though, it was decent.

I do think this review could be beneficial for others with a number of severe food allergies, but I want to be clear about how the restaurant tried to rectify the situation because my bad experience wouldn't necessarily reflect the experience of others. The reservation site requires you to input any allergies ahead of time so that they can accommodate you. I've used this many times before at other restaurants and never had an issue. In my experience, restaurants will be prepared with the allergy ticket at arrival. I have also eaten at numerous Indian restaurants before without issue, and I had a friend with me who had suggested this place because Indian restaurants are usually accommodating, in their experience. When I sat down at our table and mentioned my allergies, the waiter immediately said that I chose the wrong restaurant. This struck me as quite rude, and I was shocked because I have eaten at so many restaurants in my life and have never been told that. It left a bad taste in my mouth, but we continued to try to work something out. They were unaware of my allergens, so they went to print the allergen ticket and discuss with the chef. When they returned, they pointed to 2 items on the menu. Both of those had my worst allergens in them. At this point I was starting to get concerned for my safety if I were to eat what they prepared. After identifying those allergens on the pre-written reservation ticket, they spoke with the chef again and said they could make a dish from scratch. To be fair, they were doing their due diligence to rectify the issue, however, at this point I was concerned about the attitude toward my allergies and their mistake in suggesting what would be safe to eat. We decided to leave and went to Chef Geoff's down the street. I recommend you compare my experiences at these two restaurants if you have food allergies. Overall I was honestly shocked and mortified because I have never had an issue like this at any restaurant in my entire allergy-ridden life.

So hard to choose from a menu where everything sounded so good. We got the palak chaat, bhindi ka lonj, gobhi mattar, mint paratha, vegetable pulao, gujarati lasagne, and chili and olive oil naan. Standouts were the palak chaat and mint paratha. The palak chaat was the most well-balanced dish that satisfied every part of the flavor wheel: crispy spinach fritters, some tang from the yogurt and tamarind, sweetness from the date, and a lovely savoriness. The mint paratha was wonderfully flaky and herbaceous. The other dishes were good, but not particularly exciting. For desserts, we had the mango rasmalai and gulab jamun. Generally love ordering gulab jamun whenever I can, and it really hit the spot. The cardamom ice cream was the perfect pairing for it. I can kind of see where they were going with the mango rasmalai and the different textures/presenations of mango, but personally did not find it to be that memorable. Ambiance: 4.2/5.0 The restaurant is simple, yet elegant. The noise level is moderate and you don't have to worry about listening to someone else's conversation all night. I have yet to travel to India, but I imagine a fine-dining establishment there to look something like this with the goblets, arches, and see through walls! Service: 4.4/5.0 In my first trip to Rania, I actually had to bring my golf clubs which the host stored for me and even carried it out when I was leaving (it is extremely heavy). In my second trip, the service was again top notch. The waiter was attentive and enthusiastic making me excited for the full tasting experience. The pace of the meal was also perfect. Food: 4.3 Amuse: Two incredible small bites starting with a Sabudana Vada, a warm and spicy fritter that was soooo good. Next, a Chana masala that had that same incredible warmth but a tomato kick instead. First: The first dish of the tasting was a yellowfin tuna tartar and Pani Puri. The crunch of the pani puri complements the tuna so well and the yuzu vinaigrette was not overpowering. I will say, that there wasn't a wow factor for this dish however, but still tasted good. Second: Next up was a scallop dish with an Amritsari (cooking style that blends spices for a burst of flavor) sauce. The scallop was cooked perfectly and sauce is no joke. At first the flavor is subtle as you really taste the scallop, but then the kick comes in and it is delicious! Third: The next course was a Nargisi Kofta quail egg, Swiss chard, truffle cream, and pickled mushrooms. Think of a scotch egg with chicken as the outer covering. This dish was surprisingly spicy (you see a theme here), but the creamy sauce complimented the crispy chicken so well. If it's too spicy, make sure to eat the chard to give yourself a break. This was fantastic, but be warned, it's deceptively spicy! Fourth: I then had a Shrimp momo which is a shrimp dumpling. The dumpling sits in a moilee sauce which is coconut based. First off, I will admit that shrimp dumplings are not my favorite, but it was perfectly cooked in this dish. The sauce has a great savory and nutty flavor. However, there was a bit of an aftertaste that I couldn't wrap my head around. Fifth: For my fifth dish I got to eat a Lamb Seekh kabob. The lamb is incredibly tender and the Kashumber (cucumber in yogurt) is a perfect compliment. I will say that the flavors weren't as strong, perhaps because the previous dishes were so powerful. Sixth: The last savory dish was my selection of the duck vindaloo (chose over the squab tandoori). Vindaloo is a spicy curry and think of the duck like a duck confit. The skin is so crispy and the meat is extremely tender. The duck also comes with naan, rice, and lentils. This feels like a traditional Indian meal but elevated to the max. So much flavor, perfect cook, and the best accompaniments, my favorite part of the meal. Dessert: To wrap everything up, dessert was a chocolate tart with masala chai ice cream. The chai flavor balanced out the dark chocolate fudge to perfection. As someone who doesn't really like chocolate, the chai itself made me want more. Overall: 4.3/5.0 Just like my first trip, the food was great, ambiance serene, and service superb. There were a couple of dishes that didn't wow but overall I can't complain at all. As someone who loves Indian food, this experience elevates while keeping true to its roots. Rania is absolutely deserving of its star, and I can't wait to return!

The low light really brings a intimate and exclusive mood to your experience here. Service: Before being sat, being greeted and being sat was slow, there was only us and another group and the venue was not packed or busy. We waited quite a while to be greeted at our table as well aftwr being seated. However, during the experience, service was exceptional. From serve staff taking explaining the dishes to us to the staff wiping up our table between courses. Their attention to detail and promptness was lovely. At one point I had to leave the table for a long period of time so I missed the 5th course. They took it away because it was cold and brought me a fresh hot dish. They were extremely kind and thoughtful of my 9 year old. Misc notes before food review: This is not a kid friendly venue, especially if you have a picky eater or a child that doesn't like to venture out or expand their palate. There are options that kids could like but very limited. They do get to choose a la carte from the regular 4 course meal menu. There is a parking garage across the road that closes at 10. Worst parking and customer service experience of my life. Please dont pay to park here if you can help it. There's if some free or pay to park street parking. They have a 4 course regular menu for $90pp and a 7 course chef tasting menu for $175pp. The chef tasting menu is said to be limited time but looking at the other reviews, it seems like the chef tasting is pretty much the same and one or two courses vary. We were able to do the 7 course experience for $125 due to a promotion going on. Everyone had to do the same experience. Portions are quite small and you may leave not fully satiated. But the experience is lovely. I would say it is a little over priced, but again we pay for the ambience, presentation and experience. Drinks: I really enjoyed the drinks I was able to try. They are an experience when you receive them. The presentation is so lovely. See pictures. I got to try the lychee bomb which was excellent, and my favorite of the drinks I tried. Love the flavor pairings, sweet with some savory hints. Hocus pocus was a bourbon lovers dream. Great pairing of the berry puree and bitters with bourbon. The this is not lassi was really nice with lassi flavors with blackberry hints. And thick as well. The blush and bashful was tart and really unique. I tried it without the foam. And lastly the spring awakening, this was my least favorite. The alcohol pairing with the kiwi cucumber flavors didnt really fit to me. All the drinks definitely could tell had alcohol. Food: We did the non-vegetarian tasting with 7 courses. They do have a vegetarian tasting as well. The presentation of all the food was pretty lovely and I quite enjoyed that aspect. The sabudana vada and chana masala panisse was lovely, super flavorful and I would say my #2 for the night. Perfect start. First course - The tuna tartar pani puri was really nice and unique. I would never have thought to pair tuna with pani puri but it really worked. My #4 for the night. Second course - Hokkaido scallop... it was perfect. The hollandaise was so flavorful but did not over power the jumbo scallops natural taste. And the scallop wasnt over cooked. This is a scallop lovers dream. My #1 for the night. Third course - quail egg kaftan, this was a dense kofta, which i appreciated. Fourth course - black cod. It initially appeared undercooked and thought it would have a fishy smell and taste. Pleasantly surprised with the delicate way it was prepared yet no fishy taste or smell. Fifth course - lamb seekh kabob - this was a hand held one, which I enjoyed. All the flavors in one bite really brought thr flavors out. However this was probably my least favorite of the dishes. Sixth - pork cheeks vindaloo was really nice. Very tender and moist and rhe sauce was quite nice. Pre dessert was exquisite. It was so refreshing, cleansing, cool, and tart. It made my mouth water for dessert. Dessert we had the chocolate tart which was nice but nothing special that I noted. The chocolate and the crunch went nicely together. However if I had to choose I would go with the kesari mango dessert. My 9 year old waa able to do a la cart from the 4 course meal choices. The beef short rib was amazing! So tender, so we'll cooked, so flavorful I throughly enjoyed it. My #3 for the night. Garlic naan was soft and not to burnt. And her dessert, the kesari mango was super delicious especially the sesame brittle. Id love to try this one again. I probably wouldn't come here again unless someone specifically requested to come here. But overall my experience was a nice one. It was nice to try this once.

That turned out great because the bar tender was very attentive and knew the menu well. Owners also came around and talked to patrons - nice to see them engaged. (That's how I learned that Kismet in Richmond is the same owners!) Restaurant week menus are often meant to be more tasting sizes than full portions, bit the three courses were decent portion s and we definitely didn't leave hungry. I had a sausage appetizer that was spicy and warm and the fish curry that tasted as good as it smelled. We also ordered garlic naan because who doesn't love naan, and it was crispy and garlicky. Kismet is one of my favorite special meal places in Richmond, and I'm adding Karma to that list for DC visits now!
