Chan's Kitchen absolutely hit with these. I got the black pepper shrimp and the General Tso chicken, and both were soooo good. The shrimp was crispy, fresh, and packed with flavor -- that black pepper kick with the jalapeños and scallions gave it the perfect little heat without overpowering it. The General Tso chicken was exactly what you want: crispy pieces covered in that sweet, tangy, slightly spicy sauce, with just enough broccoli on the side to make it feel balanced. Everything tasted fresh, hot, and flavorful. Definitely one of those meals where you keep saying "just one more bite" until it's gone. Straight FIRE!!! Highly recommend. We love this small but mighty Chinese carry out! My kids go to USArts in the same plaza for drawing class on Wednesdays and we get takeout here after if we have no other dinner plans. I usually get the general tso's chicken, beef chow fun, and a large hot n sour soup, and it's enough to feed our family of four. I usually prefer authentic Chinese food but once in a while I crave for some classic Americanized dishes as well! I can tell that the food is not loaded with MSG and grease like some other places. We drove thru 30 min of traffic to try Chans since our area does not have good chinese take out. It's located in a very small shopping center and it's take out only! We ordered the food thru their website and had it scheduled and gave us the option to pay in store. We ordered the 2 piece egg rolls, hot and sour soup (pint), vegetable lomein, general tso chicken, moo shu pork, and beef with broccoli and came with 3 white rice. On Gallows behind the 7-11. Very unassuming, but I trusted yelp. I recently moved offices and starting scouting the area for lunch and today I felt like Chinese. Ordered a Singapore shrimp noodle for $13. This hole on the wall with only place for a few chairs to wait for your order had some surprisingly tasty Singapore noodles. My friends and I ordered an assortment of food to commemorate the end of 2024. I am not able to speak to the service as we ordered takeout; however, the food itself was tasty. Overall, I was impressed by the flavorful dishes and extremely satisfied with the way the shrimp fried rice was cooked. The portion sizes were also very surprising and left plenty leftovers. The major con for me was the General Tso's Chicken, it lacked the usual spiciness and overall taste of the General Tso dish. Honestly, it tasted exactly like an orange chicken dish which left me disappointed and contributes to my lower rating. Small mom and pop shop behind the 7/11, it's definitely easy to miss if you're not looking for it. The owners are super nice and the fuss is really really good. My girlfriend lives kung pao shrimp, we got that for her, it was a a little on the spicy side but it was still full of flavor and really good. They do a great job with portions here as it was a good amount of shrimp. I got the Beef Chow Fun, which reminded me of drunken noodles/pad see ew and they were really good as well. We were visiting for the holidays and wanted to continue our weird tradition of Chinese food on Christmas Eve. Well after some searching by on Yelp, we decided on Chans. I called in the order and was told they were running a bit behind and it would be about a 35-40 mins wait. Well, unfortunately they had a line of tickets waiting and told us another 30 mins after we arrived! Each person came in and left without food. After the extra 30 mins wait, our food was still not ready. All in all, we waited a total of 80 mins for 3 entrees! The food was coming out soooooo slowly. It was awful! This doesn't seem to be the norm based on other reviews. It seemed like they either did not have enough people working and/or they were possibly prioritizing very large orders, as we saw the delivery driver and 2 separate people all out with catering orders. Honestly they should have stopped taking orders until they caught up instead of telling people 30 mins, which is what they continued to do while we waited. The food was decent. Parking was ok but kinda crowded with all of the people having to wait in their cars! It's takeout only so not much space to wait inside, just a small bench and then standing room only. TL;DR: Good food, great prices. Overall I'd say you'd be hard pressed to find a bad dish here. I wish they were close to home rather than work. If timing works, get the lunch special. This is Americanized Chinese food done well. Every time I've ordered pickup from my office the food was ready by the time I arrived. The people there are nice, and the place is easy to get to. Everything is consistently hot and tastes fresh, though none of the items with a pepper next to the name to signify heat have any heat (to me). I judge this based on knowing that my friends who can't take any heat would absolutely be fine eating these dishes, though a few would claim it "a little spicy." I think this is spicy for the blandest of tastes but I never asked for more heat than what's on the basic menu. Here's what I've had in the last two months (sorry for failing to take photos): Kung Pao Chicken: Tastes like nostalgia. A little sweet, but it still had some heat. I think it's ideal for someone like my mom who can't handle spicy but likes flavor. A little greasy, but I'll take that over other places where it's bland. And for once they really did include peanuts! Sweet and Sour Chicken: If you are like my friend and want zero veg, this is for you. The chicken, when I tried it, was pleasantly NOT all batter. Fantastic ratio. My childhood self who loved the onions (and when available, pineapple) in this dish would be disappointed as there was none. But my friend who ignores the fruit and veg? He was thrilled. Mongolian Beef: I love onions. And this one has the right mix of onions for an onion lover: white onions, red onions, green onions all got the band back together and they taste so good. There's enough beef to certainly not feel cheated, and a solid sauce to boot. Chicken in Garlic Sauce: Decent! Not the best I've ever had but a good meal. I appreciate that there's a fine balance of meat and veg rather than having all of it be veg, as there's chicken in the name. But what I appreciate most is that the carrots are tender. They're cooked! A lot of places the carrot lean towards raw, but these were tender (not falling apart, just tender). Hunan Chicken: Only dish I haven't liked. Okay, that's a bit harsh. It wasn't anything I expected, and was quite greasy. But I did eat my lunch. The sauce is dark, and kinda thick. I'm unclear what it tastes like, but for a single bite I tasted ginger, which was refreshing. Szechuan Chicken: I would prefer some extra heat rather than a low key sweetness, but the chicken to vegetable ratio is much better than your average place. I stopped ordering this years ago when all I got was carrots and celery. I can say that Chan's never skimps on the meat. It's been so long since I've had szechuan chicken of any kind that I really can't comment on flavor. Only the good ratio of ingredients and the lack of heat. I kind of want to order this alongside the Kung Pao and see if it's any different in sauce. Veggie Spring Rolls: Very good. Not greasy at all. Piping hot and crisp. Egg Roll: Good. Not oily. I'm more a veggie roll gal but I liked these. I set this down on a napkin and there was hardly any grease absorption. Hot & Sour Soup: I expected not to like this because so many places make it flavorless and overly gelatinous. This was decent. Not my favorite, but a good entry. If I'm craving hot and sour soup I'd skip this and go to my preferred soup spot, but if I want soup on the side with my entree? This will get the job done. Tofu and Vegetable Soup: Plain, but hit the spot. I think if the veg was a little less crispy (so strange to say that) or the broth a little more flavorful, I'd really like it. With that in mind, I've still ordered it a few times. White Rice: Tender. Not stale or mush. I know it's strange to rate rice but sometimes it's over-cooked, sometimes it's old and dry. We tried Chans for a last minute dinner. The woman managing the register was so so kind and friendly first of all. The food was the best Chinese we've had in the Tysons/Falls Church area thus far! The orange chicken was all white meat, tender and juicy. We only wished it had a bit more orange flavor in the sauce. The fried rice we got was the best we've had in the area and the lo mein was pretty good too. Chans will be our new go-to Chinese takeout spot! What a hidden gem! Normally a back alley/strip mall Chinese place would be the type of place to avoid, but this is place fantastic. Great portion sizes as I ordered the Lunch Special General Tsos which came with what seemed like a large size portion of Chicken, steamed white rice and a delicious eggroll, all for $12. Wayyyy more food than I am able to eat for one meal so basically 2 meals for the price of one! The eggroll seriously tasted like it had just been rolled and fried, what a great surprise compared to normal Chinese places where you can tell it's been sitting out for a bit. Chan's Kitchen is a take-out only / delivery place for American-style Chinese food in the Dunn Loring area. It was busy on a Friday evening in mid-January 2024, so they must be doing something right. Lots of pluses for this place which opened recently (October 2023, I think). First, the waiting area is clean and the owners are friendly and responsive. Second, parking is easy in a mini-strip mall just west of the traffic light where Gallows Road meets Electric Ave (behind the 7-11 store). Third, the homemade dumplings were really outstanding - we had two orders which quickly got gobbled up by a family of 4, including two older teenage sons. The only minus (reason for 4 stars) was a much longer than expected waiting time for our carry-out order (45 minutes instead of 20 minutes). It could have been that our timing was in the middle of a surge of take-out orders. This will become our neighborhood "go-to" for American-style Chinese food. Talk about a standout service, price, quantity, all around American Chinese restaurant. Probably first of its kind in the area. We have ordered takeout twice now and both times quantity was sufficient and not overpriced. Their hot sour soup is actually one of the better ones I've had in a long while. The second time we went, something went wrong with order fulfillments and orders were taking 45-60 minutes. Many apologies were issued but then also we were surprisingly given an extra comp app and drink. Small gesture and certainly not necessary but so appreciated. In fact, the Moo Shi Pork is the best I've had anywhere, and I've lived and worked all over, including San Francisco. They were kind enough to honor my request to make the dish not as spicy but more so sweet. It was also quite flavorful and large enough portions to last well over two days.
