Just found my new favorite restaurant in the DMV! I love Singaporean and Malaysian food so much but there aren't any in the 757 so really lucked out finding Southeast Impression so close to a random hotel we booked. The food came out really fast and our server was very attentive despite being busy. The decor was so spot on for Southeast Asia, I was transported there. There's an open kitchen and bar.They have an all gendered bathroom with a childcare station as well. I think I need to get a spicy serving rack for my house because I need it in my life. All the food we tried was amazing! Some stands outs were the chicken curry puff and duck wraps for appetizers. For mains the rendang and Khao soi. Honestly can't go wrong with anything on their menu. Solid 10/10 high-end restaurant! Very fast paced but service is still top-tier. Our server came and checked on us periodically. They also limit your reservation for 2 hours! Part of our family came 30 minutes later; we literally finished just on time. I'd recommend using the 2 hours to eat especially if you have a big group. Food is nothing to complain about. I thought everything was pretty authentic. And, portion sizes are good for the price. Nasi Lamek I got wasn't super oily and fried chicken was very well-seasoned. This place is the real deal. You walk by thinking it is going to be just some strip mall overpriced Asian food but the internal ambiance and decor is just so cool! The staff and service were fast and friendly. The food was fantastic (and we are well versed). We enjoyed the nasi goreng, whole grilled squid, roti canai, and tamarind shrimp. But the two STARS OF THE SHOW were Beef Rendang and the Singaporean Chili Crab. Beef was "melt in your mouth" tender and the rendang curry was velvety and luxurious. The chili crab was Dungeness, pre cracked, required bibs and gloves, and has me looking fool trying to suck the claws clean. Cocktails were just iight, but can't all be hits. Back again for the third time! The food is absolutely Alicia's and we did family style this time round splitting it amongst 4 of us. We had the best time and were very well taken care of by Tammy (sp?). As a Singaporean this food reminds me a lot of home. The interior is gorgeous and they also have the option for outside seating The employees are very friendly and service is great! You really cannot go wrong with whatever dish you choose. 4.5 stars - this has been one of my favorite local restaurants the past 2 years. Service has been great each time I've visited. It's in a strip mall-ish kind of retail area with an attached garage so parking is not bad at all. This is a very family/group friendly establishment. I've tried 20+ dishes here and 90% of them are very good. I was sad to see that they no longer have biscoff cheesecake or chicken heart skewers during my most recent visit. However, plenty of other great options here. There are not many Singaporean/Malaysian options in our area so this will definitely be a routine place for me. read more

I was excited to visit this spot. There aren't as many restaurants in Northern Virginia that specialize in a large variety of Southeastern dishes. I liked that there are a lot of different dishes from each of the countries so I could try a new dish I've never had before. All the dishes had a lot of flavor and some spice for a kick. Everything was cooked perfectly and the fried chicken wasn't oily. Note that there are bones in the fried chicken. The portion size is also pretty good. Most recently I went for a friend's bridal party get together; we were able to make a reservation via phone a few days prior for our table of 10 so that was nice! Southeast Impression is a really great concept, where you can get traditional dishes from multiple SE asian countries all in one spot! They have a diverse menu of different noodle dishes, curries, soups, rice, and so so many appetizers. Service here was amazing and food came out pretty quickly. For appetizers, we ordered their fried wontons, fried calamari, salmon ceviche, and roti canai. All of them were delicious, but I highly recommend the roti canai because of how buttery the roti was and the curry was absolutely delicious! For mains, we got their pad thai, their panang curry, crab fried rice, pad see eiw, and hokkien mee. Favorites of the night here were definitely their panang curry and crab fried rice! The parking situation is limited so have patience. Kudos to the bar staff who guided me where to park (Scout on the Circle Apartments or Giant). I originally parked my car at Dunkin Donuts and they warned me that I may want to relocate my vehicle so I don't risk getting towed. As for food, Southeast Impression has a lot of options on the menu and was feeling indecisive. The staff recommended I might try the soft shell crab as this is not a typical dish that you might find elsewhere. Great choice -- the perfect amount of food for someone with a big appetite and bursting with flavor. Below are the ingredients. +Signature Singapore stir-fry chili crab served with tomato, onion, ginger, shallot, garlic, egg -- comes with a side of fried buns and white rice The dish came with four soft shell crabs and although the menu suggests that this item is already spicy as noted by the green chili symbol, the bar staff asked if I liked spicy and brought out a spice rack with four compartments. I customized it by making it spicier by adding the Thai fish sauce with red chilis. There is also a Dungeness crab version though is meant to be shared between two people. The hokkien mien was okay in my opinion, I was not a fan of the shrimp paste sauce with it. The inside is really cute and aesthetic and the menu has a wide variety of Malaysian, Singaporean, and Thai dishes. I got the curry laksa which was delicious. The portions were very generous too! I've learned that asking about portion size helps since there's not enough crab rangoons but the calamari had just the right amount of quality and quantity. Update: after trying a few more times here, I'm docking one star from this place. I realized it's not always a hit and your experience varies on the dish you order. That's a problem because their menu is too big both for the customers and the chefs. They do have many chefs, but too many options isn't always a good thing for restaurants. The pandan rice is amazing. The tiny crispy fish and peanuts balance it all. Roti with curry is a must-get appetizer. The roti is flaky in the right way. The curry goes so well with it and tastes like Malaysia. Teh tarik is a must get. It's basically Southeast Asian version of hot milk tea. I will always order it. Pineapple fried rice. It's spiced in the right way. The aroma is quite unique. I can't pin it. It's either wood smoke or some kind of masala. It smells great. It tastes especially better as leftover. The BADS: Me goreng. There are way too many ingredients. My taste buds are so confused. I can't tell if it's noodle with add-ons or the noodle itself is an add-on for the main add-ons. The potato chunks really wasn't doing it for me. Laksa. Ouch, terrible dish. The soup was way too rich and off to me. I will say it taste fresh though. The absolute no for me was mixing the hard texture rice noodle and the softer egg noodles. It should have been just egg noodles. It ruined the whole laksa for me. I was craving it but now I'm good for a few months. Crispy duck. This dish in most restaurants isn't crispy at all like the name says but it was quite crispy here. On a random whim of trying to find places to eat, I found this place and with the approval of the SIL, we came here for dinner. Seeing that the menu was pretty extensive, we ended up ordering a good amount of food, and I'm happy that all of them were really good. So for starters, we got: Roti Canai, Duck Larb, and a Tom Yum soup with chicken. All was good. I feel that the curry that came with the Roti Canai was tasty. Because let's be honest, Roti is roti. The Duck Large was spicy but it wasn't too spicy. It was good heat but not unbearable. The duck itself was nice and soft as well. For entrees we got three dishes. We got a KL hokkien mee, nasi goreng, mutton curry, and a pad kapow crispy duck. All of the dishes were great. They were plentiful, flavorful, and also filling. I do like they gave a jasmine rice along with coconut rice as well. For dessert we ended off with mango sticky rice along with a pandan creme brulee. Both were amazing and delicious.
