Simple dishes such as the tomato egg stir fry are delicious; felt like home made 番茄炒蛋. they also have Mongolian stir fry, Thai curry, Japanese sushi, the whole range. Owner is Chinese. No ambiance to speak off as it is in a half basement; no decor; a bit sad. But I came here to pick up food, having placed my order on UberEats. They told me it's cheaper to call instead of using the app, but the app is convenient as I can multitask. They said they have their own driver and can deliver. My go to spot for quality and value Asian food in NW DC. For $14 you'll get a huge plate stacked with some of the best sushi, fish, chicken, and vegetarian options ever. Used to live about two blocks away, I've brought at least 10 friends here over the years and never heard a criticism for the food. Wait times can be a little long if you order over the phone (thank you DoorDash customers for ruining the local takeout market). Ambiance is actually pretty nice despite what the outside might make it seem. As of a week ago there is an overhead light that flickers and needs to get fixed. Steamed pork dumplings: I've never had dumpling dough so thick. I could barely taste the pork inside. The filling was rather bland IMO. Orange chicken: Hefty portion and tasted fine. I wish I could get this back home, and the fact that it comes with soup or salad AND is available all day, not just for lunch, is amazing. The sushi itself is nice and tasty - it's not super high end but it's definitely above average. I'd happily get this anytime I'm in DC! It comes with spicy tuna, spicy salmon, and spicy California roll - all of which are delicious and absolutely worth the price. Came for a quick lunch before heading home, mainly because it was close by. It's not far from the metro either. The interior is touristy, which was surprising given how it's a hole-in-the-wall. Tables had Chinese zodiac table mats, which we enjoyed reading while waiting. Although clearly a Chinese restaurant, we mainly came for the sushi. My son ordered a lunch combo. Everyone seemed to be on break so I wasn't sure how long the order would take, so I changed from dine-in to togo to ensure I could make our next appointment. They actually stopped eating to make our food and it was pretty quick, so that might not have been necessary in hindsight. The sushi rolls were decent, but small. The tuna and salmon rolls were the same size as the small california rolls, so just be aware that the 3 roll combo was absolutely necessary. They did get our order wrong, where even though we had ordered tuna/spicy salmon/california we received 2x spicy salmon and a california roll. Hmph they also make their rolls so the rice is on the outside. I ordered Chinese food thinking I'd have better luck with it but no. The lo mein was not lo mein, it was just fried noodles but 5x greasier than Panda Express with hardly any vegetables. The shrimp was extremely small, likely frozen. The flavor was not great either. Definitely a hole downstairs BUT WOW!!! Food is AMAZING!! At first I wasn't going to go downstairs because the window was not the cleanest but the stairs and entry looked clean so we entered. A lady greeted us and immediately came and motioned us to sit at a round table. The interior looks run down or they need better lighting. Every single item we ordered was outstanding! It wasn't overly sweet, or oily as so many Asian restaurants do. The ingredients were very fresh. Portions were good not too large nor too little. The restaurant called to let us know they were out of the passion fruit bubble tea so we got two mango ones which were both delicious. For food we had Tom Yom Soup, Miso Soup, a Rainbow Roll, a Sakura roll, Beef Stewed Noodle Soup, Drunken Noodles, Orange Chicken, and Mango Chicken. I ordered the lunch special Hunan shrimp that comes with a fried spring roll and I added a hot and sour soup cup because it was cold out and soup really hit the spot. This place is especially generous their portions (except the rice, that could be a little more) and very easy on the wallet, as most dishes are between $8-15. They also serve lunch specials on weekdays (except major holidays) from 11-3:30pm. I have tried several dishes in the lunch special, and their drunken noodle, and everything I have gotten has been very delicious! One thing I noticed was that sometimes they insist on cash when your total order is less than $10, so just a little FYI. They also do delivery orders which is free with a $12 minimum. Everything was closing before/by 9pm bc of Covid. I just got into DC and was starving!! They took my order (Grubhub), there was parking across the street and I walked in the front entrance (Google Maps sends you to the back of the place, for some reason). Front entrance is well lit. I didn't really like the combination of vegetables they used that much either. We also tried their mapo tofu; never again... I know it's hard to make good mapo tofu, but this was really bad... The best stuff here is the sushi! Who would have guessed, right? Rolls were large, and they provide a slice of fish on top. The salmon nigiri was also money! Most places I can place the whole damn thing in my mouth-- not here though, it requires 2 bites. The slice of salmon was now just big, but thick too. And it melts in your mouth...
