TLDR stick to the dumplings. So I love dumplings and have been on a bit of a dumpling kick lately so of course I ordered the pork soup dumplings. And they were alright (and more reasonably priced than some others I tried) but they were just alright. A bit doughier than I usually prefer, but at least that had the benefit of keeping the soup actually inside the dumpling. I probably would've liked them more if I hadn't also ordered the chilled sesame noodles which were a definite miss. The sauce was weirdly clumpy, maybe in part because they were prepared in advanced and kept in the fridge. Whatever the reason, they weren't doing it for me especially not for $9+!

Laoban Dumplings may be in the Union Market to offer something exciting for those who seek some delicious Soup Dumplings but I did not find them anything but alright. I like the decorations of this place; inside there's one wall full of snacks you can buy and another wall with a neon sign that you can pose a selfie with or showcase what you got. For me? I just showed what I ordered. I got the Pork Soup Dumplings & the Pork Chive Fried Dumplings. Both came with Chili Oil! For the price, it was a bit high but I also ate something prior to visiting Laoban so it was okay. The Soup Dumplings; I think they did not have alot of soup in them and it hearty when I was able to taste them. Dipped with the Chili Oil, it enhanced the flavor. The Pork Chive Fried Dumplings; I thought these were better but they felt like any other dumplings I've eaten at other places. Not too bad, but not too great either. Still I think it's worth at least checking out this place if you are on a mission for food. I mean, if you're already in Union Market why not right?

It's such a cute looking place, but the dumplings are painfully average. They aren't bad, but they're maybe a half step up from frozen dumplings. I only tried the pork and chive dumplings though, so maybe the other ones are better. But, the service is super quick so if you need something that will taste good and come out super fast, then I'd stop by here again.

One of my favorite spots for dumplings in Union Market. I tried both the veggie and pork dumplings--really enjoyed the veggie ones the most. It's also a vegan-friendly spot, which is always a plus. It's a cute place for a quick bite, though it can get pretty busy on weekends. I went on a Sunday and had to wait a while since service was a bit slow. Pricing is reasonable, especially considering it's inside Union Market where things tend to run higher. Still, a great stop if you're in the area and craving dumplings.

Yeah, it's dumplings. Try a variety. Nothing too crazy but delivers substantially in a sea of overpriced food stalls

The dumplings were pretty good--we had the ginger chicken and beef ones. Unfortunately, they were out of the pork & chive. Prices were super reasonable, especially for Union Market. Service was also quick, even on a busy Friday night!

I would give this a 3.5. This is not bad, solid dumplings. just nothing special. I got the ginger, pork and veggie ones and really enjoyed the pork and veggie ones. The beef were out of stock for the day. Honestly one of the more affordable options - I think it was around 6 for 7/8 dollars. But filled my dumpling craving!

This spot was OK. One of the few food places that were pretty quick and easy on a late (9pm) Friday night. I ordered chicken dumplings but they asked if I could do 1 pork otherwise it would take longer. I'm glad they asked because I was in a rush, but at the same time I'm like why were the chicken ones already ready lol. The spring roll was good but lacked the firmness that I'm used to. It was a bit hard to hold and eat because it was flimsy and I definitely couldn't dip it without dropping everything everywhere. Overall food flavor and sauces were good but I'd probably only come back if I were in a similar grab and go situation again.

Not how I'd typically want my dumplings to be. I'm giving more than 1 star specially for 2 reasons: The one person working the kitchen and cash register was so nice and the dumpling filing for the chicken and pork dumplings were good. Now the reason for a not so great review from me was the sad attempt to make beyond meat dumplings in chili oil. Wontons or dumplings in chili oil are a dish I take seriously as I know every restaurant makes it differently. However we could not finish the container as the skin of the dumpling was not even properly cooked and the chili oil was heavily lacking in character. I hope they can revamp that dish.

They have a large beer, wine, and liquor list (although not nearly as many English beers as I expected from a place called Crown & Crow). I won't deny that I wasn't a fan of either of the mixed cocktails I had, with both (including strangely a smoky drink) being too sweet. But the beer was expertly poured and the wine was a very generous serving. The prices are also more than reasonable, which is great for a DC bar. But what really elevates this place is the service. By late night, the place was jam packed. But each and every bartender was extremely friendly and they expertly worked the crowd, getting drinks served quickly (which too few places manage to do) and swiftly clearing off tables of dirty glasses. I also greatly appreciated the free goldfish that they happily dole out to the patrons. The staff made this a really good time.

The bartender in that area was friendly, but unhelpful, directing us to use the front room's bartender, even though she wasn't busy when we approached and asked for a couple of drinks. The bartender in the main room was great, he was very friendly and once he started a tab for me he said I could use the other bar too, I guess he wasn't aware the bartender at that other bar already told me she wouldn't help me. Regardless, the drinks we had were decent. For small bites, they only had gold fish crackers, I wish they would have had more to nosh on while drinking. Overall, not a bad visit.

I visited as part of the full experience -- dinner downstairs at Birch & Barley, then up to Churchkey for drinks -- and honestly, it's one of the best evenings I've had in DC. Churchkey itself is everything a great bar should be. The beer selection is absolutely unreal -- hundreds of carefully curated labels spanning every style, region, and flavor profile you can imagine. What sets it apart is that the staff actually knows the menu. Our server walked us through a few options based on what we liked and landed us on perfect picks both times. That kind of genuine expertise is rare. The tavern pizzas from the wood-fired oven were a wonderful surprise -- thin, crispy, and the perfect companion to a cold draft. The smash burger also deserves a mention: simple, well-executed, and hits the spot. The vibe is warm and lively without being overwhelming. Great for a date, a group, or even just sitting at the bar solo with a good beer and good conversation with the bartender. This place has earned its reputation as one of the best beer bars on the East Coast -- and then some. Highly recommend making a full night of it with both floors. You won't regret it. I've paid more for less. Let me take a moment and collect myself before I talk about the Saffron Mussels. They were freaking amazing. The broth was mildly spicy, a powerful punch of salty herby flavor that paired wonderfully with the mussels. They were perfectly cooked with a tender chew. Served with fries and chunks of bread to sop up all that glorious broth. If you're thinking about getting the mussels, just do it. Truly, one of the best pot of mussels I've had. The bartender did a great job explaining the tasting notes of all the drinks and helped me choose a good one. I also sipped the Belgian sour many of my friends opted for and that's a great cocktail for just $6 during happy hour. Happy hour is tricky -- it's really a great deal making it difficult to justify paying full price for anything but the crowd here is two folds. You have a lot of young college kids mixed with an older crowd so one comes for the deals while the other comes for amazing food and cocktails -- something for everyone! Overall I would definitely come back for dinner. This place has a very lowkey casual vibe but upscale food and drinks. The atmosphere/ambiance leaves a little to be desired with not so great lighting and no background music that I can recall but still a nice spot to pop in.

They have slowly made changes over the years that make this an absolute must visit. What hasn't changed: the outdoor vibes and string lights are as pleasant as ever, and without the crushing crowds and lines that typified this location in their early years, it is a much nicer vibe most days. In my first review, I complained that the menu was very light on German beer options. They offer far more now, including a beer that I do not believe you can regularly find at any other bar in the city: the Weihenstephaner Korbinian, the world's finest doppelbock. It is one of the most delicious beers I have ever had, and they have it here on tap for a very reasonable price. Another positive change: they have a kitchen now with a full menu of food options. Their giant pretzel is a classic, of course. If you're a weekend happy hour chaser, they sell $5 High Noons all day Sunday. One final note: the location is absolutely perfect. Baan Mae has opened next door to the north (a 5/5 dining experience, amazing Thai food), Ugly Duckling is across the street to the south (a 5/5 happy hour and cocktail experience), and Ivy & Coney is right across the street to the east (a DC icon and 5/5 dive bar and football spot), so Dacha is essentially the centerpiece of the perfect night (or whole day) out.
