My boyfriend and I went to Dacha Beer Garden (Shaw) for an afternoon date and it was such a vibe. The patio was full but still felt cozy and fun lots of energy without feeling chaotic. The sunlight coming through the big windows and umbrellas made everything feel warm and relaxed. It's definitely one of those spots that feels very DC weekend.We ordered the giant pretzel with cheese and mustard and it was SO good soft, warm, perfectly salted, and ideal for sharing. The fries were crispy and seasoned just right. We also tried a couple of beers (the grapefruit one was especially good and refreshing), and everything paired perfectly with the food. It's casual but still cute enough to make it a real date. You can sit, talk, enjoy your drinks, and not feel rushed. I'd absolutely come back, especially on a sunny day. It has been nearly 11 years (!) since my initial review, so an update is sorely in order. This place is still going strong, stronger than ever in my view. They have slowly made changes over the years that make this an absolute must visit. What hasn't changed: the outdoor vibes and string lights are as pleasant as ever, and without the crushing crowds and lines that typified this location in their early years, it is a much nicer vibe most days. In my first review, I complained that the menu was very light on German beer options. They offer far more now, including a beer that I do not believe you can regularly find at any other bar in the city: the Weihenstephaner Korbinian, the world's finest doppelbock. It is one of the most delicious beers I have ever had, and they have it here on tap for a very reasonable price. Another positive change: they have a kitchen now with a full menu of food options. Their giant pretzel is a classic, of course. If you're a weekend happy hour chaser, they sell $5 High Noons all day Sunday. One final note: the location is absolutely perfect. Baan Mae has opened next door to the north (a 5/5 dining experience, amazing Thai food), Ugly Duckling is across the street to the south (a 5/5 happy hour and cocktail experience), and Ivy & Coney is right across the street to the east (a DC icon and 5/5 dive bar and football spot), so Dacha is essentially the centerpiece of the perfect night (or whole day) out. read more

Stopped in before the recent Nats series against the Phillies to "pre-game" (excuse the pun). Directly across the street from the stadium, good luck finding ANY street parking, so unless you live in the area, do yourself a favor and take the Metro to the Navy Yards neighborhood. Dacha Beer Garden is an interesting set-up. Walk up to the host stand and get your hand stamped before gaining entry to the dining area; more on the hand stamp later. The interior is ginormous and the "walls" are heavy duty plastic with the center of the room having an open ceiling for natural lighting. This being summer, it was a thousand degrees, but all of the fans on the highest setting, did a good job of circulating the air. Dacha does have one of the better Happy Hour deals for DC (see picture for current specials). I came with a large group of 10+, so we all ordered a bunch of items to share. I sampled the blood orange hefeweizen, which was slightly citrusy and added brightness to the smooth wheat beer. The fried shrimp was surprisingly delicous and tasted quite fresh. I was expecting reheated previously frozen and heavily battered shrimp; but this was not the case. Each piece had a nice snappy bite and lightly battered with good seasoning. I would've liked more of the dipping sauce, but a squeeze of the roasted lemon gave some needed acidity. Also snacked on some of the curry wurst, which tbh was waaay too sweet. Fries were good though and not soggy. Service was a bit slow, but to be expected since I only observed three servers for the entire dining space. The runners did an admirable job of delivering food/beverages after we placed our orders. Regarding the hand stamp, the restrooms are located directly across the courtyard at Jackie (https://www.yelp.com/biz/jackie-washington-4?osq=jackie%27s). So you'll need to show the host at Jackie the hand stamp to use the facilites and then again to return to Dacha. Even if I wasn't in Navy Yards for a Nats game, I would return to the Dacha Beer Garden. We all had an enjoyable experience, but the only slight detraction is the non-Happy Hour prices are on the higher side. But this is only a minor gripe since that's any place in 2025 when dining out. We went here with a group for drinks and lunch on a Sunday. They had reserved a double table for us, which we found easily and took over for several hours. The vibe there was very friendly and chill, and we never felt rushed. I had met friends for brunch before I came, so I only had drinks (several tasty espresso martinis), but most of our group also had sandwiches or salads and enjoyed them. Mission to pick-up Race Stuff for Cupid's Undie Run Every year, I try to run and rise money at this fun run and charity event called, "The Cupid's Undie Run." NF is a disease that causes tumors in children's brains, it affects their lives and impacts their families. This night, I made the trip to Dacha Beer Garden in DC to pick up my race t-shirt, race number and race related swag. They had us pick it up at this charming beer garden. I enjoyed a pretzel and a beer that night. It's a dog friendly place, being semi-outdoors (as it's was in a tent-like structure) and we meet several furry friends of the four-legged kind. The wait staff were friendly and attentive. My friend is a huge dog lover, so we made the plan to return with our beloved dog friend, Bailey. Absolutely Unacceptable Billing Practices at Dacha Beer Garden, 79 Potomac Ave SE, Washington, DC 20003. 2 (two) $108 holds on a single bill! On Sunday, May 25, I took my parents out to what I expected to be an enjoyable meal at Dacha Navy Yard -- instead, I was met with what can only be described as an outrageous and irresponsible mishandling of my bank account. When we ordered, the server asked for a card to "hold" the bill. I handed over my card, assuming this was a formality. What I was not told is that Dacha would immediately place a $108.79 hold on my bank account. After the meal, my father and I split the bill, and I paid my portion -- only to discover shortly after that a second $108.79 hold was placed, in addition to the actual charge for my part of the meal ($87.42 after tip). I now had $217.58 held and $87.42 charged, all on a bill that was supposed to be around $130 total. That's $396 charged or held on a simple meal. My bank account went negative by over $200, all because of this restaurant's opaque and careless billing system. I returned that evening to voice my concern and was told to "wait for it to drop off." I followed up again on Tuesday, only to be told the same thing. I've been texting with an assistant manager, provided a picture of my receipt and bank statement, and at first tried to blame my bank. CapitalOne's fraud department is investigating the transaction informing me that it is the restaurant that has set the pending charge. CapitalOne also told me that typically they wouldn't investigate such a transaction so soon, but because of such a discrepancy, they opened the case immediately. The management also told me that this is an ongoing issue and then I'm not alone with this problem. I wonder if anyone reading this also had this problem?! Why in the world would a restaurant place two $108 holds on a $130 bill? This isn't a luxury hotel or a car rental agency, it's a beer garden. I've eaten here before, and the hold was $25, which to be honest is a bit high, but was reconciled as soon as I cashed out. This time, however, the restaurant's mishandling caused a negative balance in my account and over $200 in funds unavailable for several days (and at this time still hasn't been reconciled). This is not just inconvenient, it's financially irresponsible and unacceptable. While I had previously enjoyed visiting Dacha, this incident has completely soured the experience. read more

Overall, I thought Dacha Beer Garden is a great spot for outdoor dining and well...beer drinking. The garden was a bit larger than I thought it would be, which was an A+ in my book. This feature was great for us because we stopped by on a very nice summer day, which prompted plenty of folks to chill outside with a beer or five. I was very surprised (and happy) that we were able to find a section of the garden with available seating. While the garden is of a decent size, it highly recommended to arrive pretty early in the day or late in the night because it does get crowed. I thought the beer garden had a very nice selection of beers, which were reasonably priced for the area. Also, I really appreciated a nice mix of cocktails because sometimes, it's nice to supplement beers with a nice gin-based cocktail. ;) Overall, our service was great. Although the garden was pretty crowed, our waitress made sure to check in on us on several occasions. I really enjoyed the vibes at Dacha, it is a super cute beer garden. We decided to check it out one day when we were in Navy Yard. It was a hot day, but they had plenty of fans going and most of the seats were shaded. They have picnic benches and some high top tables you can stand at. You can order from the Airstream they have or from your phone with a QR code. We ended up sharing an order of the cinnamon sugar pretzel bites which were okay. Held happy hours here for my old job. The staff was incredibly kind, attentive, and accommodating. They have several non-alcoholic beers and mixed drink options which is great for sober people like myself. The food was a good as well, my go-to was the jumbo pretzel. It is entirely outdoors with rows of picnic tables and a few sections of high tables (which is what we reserved for happy hours). I hate to give three stars because the food I was actually really surprised by how good it was and came out very quickly, but the service was just so strangely incompetent. Maybe it was an off afternoon when I went but it was not crowded at all and yet all the servers seemed like they had never before been servers. Our waiter while well meaning was just really oblivious and didn't seem to understand anything we were saying. He also spilt a good amount of the champagne when we ordered the mimosa bar and did not offer to provide an extra glass to make up for it or anything, which was annoying to me. It was such an annoying experience we left as soon as we finished eating. That aside the food, everyone was pleased with. I got the avocado Benedict which was on latkes instead of an English muffin. Came here on a Monday because I saw it had happy hour all day! There were very few items on the happy hour menu in terms of beer selection, but they had some cocktails on there, a good food selection, and 4-5 of what I assume are popular beers. I got the Hefeweizen ($7) from the HH menu which was a bit citrusy, but still good. We got the Sausagefest board ($37) which was not on the HH menu but is definitely a meal large enough to feed 2 people, possibly be snacked on by 3-4 people. Lively and lovely outdoor beer garden in the Shaw neighborhood- I visited a few times, since our Air BNB was only 250 feet away! Waters brought quickly to the table along with paper menus (death to the QR code!). Was told about the Manor Hill Brewing tap takeovers, and that was nice. I attended a networking event here last week and had a great time. The beer list is excellent and has a broad range of options to satisfy a broad range of tastes. I had both a double IPA (tasty and strong) as well as a lighter hazier IPA (tasty and refreshing). In addition to the solid drink selection, the food I had was all really good. I always enjoy a fresh soft pretzel, and while these were certainly pleasant, they were a bit less fresh than I would have liked (that may have been because it was catered food and not made fresh to order). This is a fantastic spot to enjoy some beer, and we're all worth it! The patio is wonderful and the bustling bar is lively and fun and they have a nice selection of beautifully crafted beer. This place reminded me a lot of Sauf Haus in terms of crowd and design. This was my first in-person meetup with my former coworkers since the pandemic had started, so it was a pretty big deal. It was quite crowded, but my coworkers and I were able to claim 2 benches and we got right to ordering. It wasn't a happy hour day unfortunately, though we could "buy in" to take advantage of happy hour specials until a certain time. It was like $15 for discounts or something like that... it didn't seem worth it, given the discounts weren't that notable and it would require a LOT for it to pay for itself. I'm not a huge beer drinker, so I got some of the cocktails instead, ranging from $12-$15. I particularly enjoyed the DBG and the Rita -- the former had lemon, grapefruit, vodka, aperol, Campari and St. Germain... it was pretty good! The Rita was good and it had jalapeno in it, what a kick! Overall it was a good time, but I'm definitely not always up for that crowd -- especially at this time that was towards the beginning of the year. Went on a Sunday afternoon. It's lovely space all the way at the south side of the Navy Yard. Sat at a regular height table, but there was bar height seating along the perimeter. Ordered a kebab plate that was a ton of (yummy) food. It came with slices of toast, which I didn't realize when ordering. So after the food arrived I asked for pita (I think they call it naan), and they obliged. That was much better (although the toast was good too). The first thing I have to mention is the 15% service charge. While this has unfortunately become more common, it is particularly deceptive here. It is mentioned only in a small spot on the menu, and if you pay with a card at the bar (where you may not have seen the menu), you are prompted with the regular suggested tips of around 20% on top of the 15% charge which isn't clearly mentioned. We all have been dealing with higher costs and know that restaurants are too, but trying to get people to pay 35%+ over menu price without noticing is just wrong. It is sad that this was an issue because everything else about Dacha was awesome. I had a great time here before the baseball game with 7 friends. They have a variety of seating options such as picnic tables and outdoor-furniture lounge areas (first come first serve). They have a ton of drafts from Germany that I haven't seen anywhere else, and you can get boots. Everyone enjoyed their food, and we were particularly thrilled with the pretzel. Dacha should be a great place to hang out on a nice day or before seeing the game, but sadly their business practices stop me from being able to recommend it. Seems like they should do fine no matter what the menu prices are, based on the neighborhood and location across the street from the ballpark. Just be honest and raise prices if you have to! read more
