A few months ago we were in Dupont Circle and were so hungry and weren't sure where to go. It was between lunch and dinner time and most restaurants weren't opening until 4:00 PM. I had some time to kill after arriving for a nearby appointment an hour early, so I dropped in here to grab a bite. At the time, I was only one of two people in the main room with the bar. The adjacent room however, looked to have a bunch of folks gathered for brunch many of them enjoying a pre-game bite before the World Cup finals. I ordered a Pineapple Smokey Skinny which was so good and refreshing - perfect balance of sweetness and smoke. I also ordered a fish taco, which was just the right amount of food for someone that isn't too hungry but will be in an hour or two. Just enough to hold me over until after my appointment. The bartender wasn't warm but did what needed to be done. No issues there, but also nothing that will draw me back in. Overall, I love how much the space is filled with lots of natural light and the option for patio seating if the weather is nice. I've been to Mission Dupont for brunch multiple times, and it's consistently one of my favorite brunch spots in the city. The biggest draw for me is the bottomless drink package. In my opinion, it's one of the best deals in DC because you're not limited to just mimosas. You get bottomless Bloody Marys, mimosas, margaritas, and rail drinks, which gives you a lot more variety than most brunch spots offer. For a little under $30, being able to enjoy a mix of drinks throughout brunch feels like a steal. On this visit, I ordered the birria breakfast sandwhich, which came with a consommé dipping sauce. It was really good and surprisingly filling. The portion was so large that I couldn't finish it and ended up taking the rest home and eating it later that night. The staff has always been another strong point. Everyone is friendly, attentive, and keeps things moving without making you feel rushed. Stopped in during the recent heatwave weekend with a visiting friend I had hyped this spot to as a must-try for great Mexican food, but the experience wasn't great. This vegan mushroom taco was fine. It was larger than a standard small soft taco and filled with mushrooms, sprouts, and avocado. It also had a vegan sauce, but overall it just wasn't great. Unfortunately, not sure where to start, other than truly disappointed. We ordered dinner from here tonight, but can't say we'll ever do that again. My husband and I each got the steak fajitas for $24.00 per plate. First off, this is my fajita plate, I haven't even eaten yet, but as you can see, little to no meat can be seen. To make matters worse, the box in which it was sent was leaking from all 4 corners. As if that wasn't bad enough, we were sent taco sized tortillas, not fajita sized, and we were only sent 4. So between two people, there were 4 tiny tortillas to share. For $24.00, I expect to at least have an ounce or two of meat, but our boxes were filled with soggy vegetables, soggy rice, and poorly flavored minuscule bits of meat. I actually had to dig to find the meat. I understand inflation, but there's a difference between inflation and being ripped off or being dishonest about what you sell. I am embarrassed to even be writing such a negative review, but I believe restaurants need to be made aware of incidents like this so they can be addressed. It's possible this isn't their typical practice (and I would hope not); however, it is unacceptable to charge $24.00 for a steak fajita plate that looks like this. Is it because we ordered take out? Was it bad night? Was there a shortage of ingredients? I would have preferred to have been notified that my order couldn't have been fulfilled than to have been charged what we were for dinner tonight. Wish I could tell you we enjoyed our meal, but we didn't. Wish I could tell you that I look forward to visiting it in person, but we won't ever dine from there again. I recently when to Mission with my 3 month old son to pick of dinner for me and my wife. I ordered through the phone because I was trying to add chicken to the nachos order online but was not able to. I ordered Chips and salsa, Breakfast burrito, Nachos with chicken. I picked up the order and as I was leaving I asked if I could get a couple of water to go and they said no (which surprised me). When I got home we realized that there was no chicken in the nachos I ordered. The chicken was placed in the order and seen on the receipt, but didn't get chicken. Mission food is very consistent- some food is really good and others can be bland. The carnitas quesadilla is amazing, and the carnitas is probably the best flavored of their meat options. The queso is not the best I've ever had but it does the job and great portion size to split with friends. The ancho aioli that comes with the quesadilla is also amazing. The birria was also pretty decent- nothing spectacular but definitely a solid Birria (kinda similar to Trader Joe's birria lol). If you can, make a reservation the day before, they're usually available for outside until a few hours before your dining time, and it's hard to get a table without a long wait otherwise. I had a really great time here during happy hour! We sat outside because it was a beautiful spring day. The happy hour deals were awesome- I got a Paloma for $9.50. I love that they asked what I'd like on the rim. The drink was delicious and not too sweet. For dinner I got the happy hour nachos which were only $10. As others have said it's more Tex Mex or Mexican American but good nachos are good nachos! My friend got the enchiladas which they said were amazing. Service was excellent- they were quick to bring everything and our server was really nice. The menu is pretty big for a small restaurant. So many choices. I decide on the chicken tingo tacos x 2. She decided on the guacamole toast. The music is cranking, like on 10 for some reason. We can barely hear each other talk. My only real complaint about the lunch visit. After a bit the food arrives and the tacos are tasty. In ordered without cilantro (bothers my stomach, like throw up bother). The chicken is spicy and good. Fresh fixings for the taco toppings. Erica likes the guacamole toast, commenting the freshness of the guac plus the generous toppings. It looked small but covered the plate. The beer is cold and margarita is tasty, I had a sip. Definitely a spot to visit if you happen to be in Dupont Circle and feel like Mexican. Many options on the menu, brunch looked good with a large variety of taco choices. Stopped by for a light dinner while staying in the Dupont Circle area. The restaurant is an easy walk from the Circle, next to the local Metro station. Food and service were excellent! I had the Vegan Stuffed Peppers (recommended by the server), which were wonderfully-spiced and delicious, particularly washed-down with the local "Octoberfest" draft. My companion had the Steak Taco, and a Mushroom Taco, both of which were very good. Service couldn't have been more friendly or prompt. The only drawbacks to the place, and they are minor, is that 1) my companion and I are "Boomers" who still enjoy conversation with our meal, and the music playing was over-loud to the point of preventing any prolonged conversation. Also 2) we often enjoy lingering after dinner over dessert and coffee, and menu options for coffee, and some flan, or fried plantains, would have been nice following such a wonderful meal (but with the music volume, conversation was foreclosed anyway.) We were going to sit at the bar, but there was a party going on so it was super loud, so we asked the hostesses if we could sit in an empty dining room, and they happily accommodated us. I wasn't the biggest fan of the queso...it wasn't bad, but it was too "TexMex" for my liking. My margarita was great...and yes, I ordered a second!! Then we ordered a couple tacos...husband got a couple arrachera steak tacos, and I got a Baja fish taco. Both were great.
