This place has been on the "must visit" list for a while I finally did go. It's on 17th Street with bunch of other restaurants. Steak, Italian, I can imagine there is a lot more. I grabbed a seat at the bar and was immediately helped with a drink order. PBR in a can, not that common. The menu has a good selection of food and drink. There is an upstairs to the restaurant. It seemed to be popular with the Saturday brunch crowd. I ordered Rob's big boy platter. The service outside is picking up so everyone is busy. I'm just enjoying the PBR and the atmosphere. It's pretty cool inside. Diving helmet, lots of nautical touches everywhere. It looks like a great place for happy hour with the guys from work. After a bit the platter arrives and it's huge. Bacon is crispy, tots are fried just right, eggs are not runny. I order another beer and settle in to enjoy a good size breakfast. I'm getting done with all that I can eat. Bacon, eggs, sausage, waffles and a few tots are what I can eat. I'm stuffed. Need a walk to burn off some of the calories. Metro is 4-5 blocks away. Definitely will be back in the future. I was really excited to visit the 'new' location after coming back to DC. The old one in the Shaw was one of my favs. I went there all the time. Maybe it was the time of day (Saturday brunch) or just a tough day for staffing but - it was a pretty rough experience. Long wait times, incorrect orders, missing ingredients.... I visited The Commodore for happy hour with a friend. It was my first time, and while it felt a little different, it was definitely worth the visit. I went with a vodka tonic from the happy hour menu and ordered the Commodore tendies with their blue cheese dressing, along with the Crispy Honey Brussels Sprouts. I was surprisingly satisfied with the food -- I devoured every bit of it. The atmosphere was welcoming and laid-back. This place is a pretty good spot. I went with my friend one Monday for happy hour and the service was smooth. He was really friendly and had great recommendations. We tried their burgers and they were probably a 3.5/5. I wish it was a little juicier, but it hit the spot. Tried being healthier so opted for a side salad with the burger. The specials were good. Very good happy hour pricing for wine and beer. A super plus was that they were dog friendly! So our puppies got to hang out, get water, and lots of attention from other friendly guests. It would've been nice if the outside patio had music, just to add to the vibe, but the waiters said it wasn't allowed. Is deff stop by here again, especially after another puppy play date. read more

The Commodore is a solid American food spot in DuPont. Came on a Sunday around 7:30 and the kitchen had already closed for the night but they still offered to make us food which was very appreciated! The food came out quickly. We split the pretzel which was giant and amazing. It comes with great dips and can be a meal in and of itself. I got one of their burgers which was good, but nothing special. Everything advertised on top that sounded special for toppings just tasted basic. The tots on the side were seasoned well. At about $20 for a burger it's pretty expensive, so I'd probably stick to apps next time. Service is great but it's a small restaurant so if you see a table grab it! read more

This is a great bar to hang out at. The place is a little small but we were able to get one table on a Saturday night. The tots were amazing and had great subtle seasoning on there. The drinks are relatively cheap. I would have tried more food but they close their kitchen early and I did not know what time that is. I would go back for some food and a drink. read more

Stopped in for Caroled at the Commodore as it's officially holiday season and time to hit all the pop-ups around the DMV. We stopped in on a Wednesday evening and by 6 pm it was PACKED. My friends and I sampled some of the spirited libations upstairs (not sure what the theme of that room is - online it says there would be 3 rooms representing past, present and yet to come) and they were all pretty good. On the sugary side of course but we love a theme! They are also honoring happy hour (M-F; 4-7 pm) during the pop up so no pressure to only order a holiday drinks - they've got options! We didn't order any food but I will say I was eyeing what I overheard are called Tot-Cho's and they smelled delicious! Overall we had a great time! It wasn't super holiday themed but there were infusions. Bee appreciated the fast service and the cozy pub atmosphere! read more

We were here for our scuba team happy hour. It was pretty humid that day and the indoors was packed. We decided to sit outside and grab some drinks and dinner. Servers were very kind to provide us with mosquito repellents as there were so many mosquitoes. Well, the drinks were great. I ordered old fashioned and I had no complaints. Went on two separate occasions to grab drinks before dinner reservations. The first time was a Monday and was 5/5 everything! Second time was on a Saturday and that's why I'm giving 4/5. Our first time we sat at the bar and service was so fast, but it also was not that busy. On Saturday we arrived around 2:45 and the bar wasn't that busy, but brunch was ending at 3 and food service wouldn't start again till 4pm. No big deal! We grabbed our drinks and waited, but service was very slow and as the bar got busier the service became slower if you were sitting at a table and not at the bar. Otherwise, this place is such a cool vibe, the food looks amazing and next time I go I am ordering apps! Drinks are good and there seems to be something for everyone! read more

Went to DC in March and had the chance to go dine at The Commodore. It's definitely a chill spot to catch up with your friends. We had the Totchos as an app and they were so good! I had the Damn Good Caesar Salad and also tried the Mac n cheese, both really good. My partner enjoyed his burger as well. Overall, the vibe was chill abs our server was cool! Stopped by for happy hour last night with my girls and so glad we did. The best thing was the Buffalo chicken dip- it was absolutely delicious. I'll be back for that dish alone. The happy hour bratwurst was also very tasty and a fun, unique flavor combo and points that it was cut down the middle so you could actually get the toppings in each bite. I stuck to a canned beverage but they had fun looking cocktails too! Service was attentive- you could tell there is a good regular crowd here. I'm glad I came in, living in the neighborhood I'd totally come back and am happy to have discovered it. There are several other items on the regular menu and brunch menu that I want to come back and try! My only complaint is we asked the server at the very beginning if we could split the check by item and were told we could- come to the end and were told the best they can do is split it 50/50 on two cards. This was frustrating and has happened to us a lot in other places as well- hence why we asked at the beginning of the meal before we opened the tab. So if you want separate checks be sure to start separate tabs at the beginning- lesson learned. read more

Has neighborhood bar vibes and is a chill place to hang out. They are a gastropub that offer what you would expect, but also the unexpected like their impossible katsu bao buns. Been here for happy hour twice so far and they have a solid happy hour (4-7pm Mon-Fri). I think the apps are done really well. Recently had fried pickles ($8) and chicken tenders w jerk bbq sauce ($12) and they were yummy and good portion size - shared both with a party of 4. Beer on draft is $2 off, and they have $6 well drinks and wine. It's not super large inside but they have 4-5 tables that seat two and your standard bar area, and a small second floor that looked like it had a bigger table. When it's nicer out they also have outdoor dining. Bartenders and servers are really nice too and attentive. Another solid 17th st establishment! read more

I went here for Happy Hour after work. It's a typical bar type environment with good drinks and great music. In my opinion, the happy hour prices were great. They had $6 wells drinks and $6 wine. The food prices were about the same, but they do have food specials for Happy Hour. I ordered the chicken tenders and tots. They were ok. Nothing to rave about. The service was excellent. Everyone was so helpful and friendly. They made us laugh and made sure we had a good time. I had such a good time, that I only have one picture for my review. So THIS is the Commodore. Gotta say I'm a huge fan. When you go to a more intimate bar setting, atmosphere and bartender persona play a big role in how it'll be. The bar feels the right size, and the music was from 80s movies the entire time XD. As for the bartenders... super friendly folks, thanks Terry!! I decided to start off with the Commodore Grog, which was tasty! The menu has many sandwich options to choose from, but the '+ Three" portion of the menu caught my attention. You can get a meat with three sides, and they said the portions are generous. Shortly after I got 4 lovely bowls, filled to their brims with General Tso's Shrimp, Mac N Cheese, Roasted Potato Salad and Collard Greens. It was a lot of food, but I came hungry, finished everything! I especially enjoyed the shrimp and that extra cheesy mac. It wasn't until later on that I actually found out that they have happy hour... some $5 drink options among other things until 7:00. And on Thursdays I believe the happy hour is all day. Great vibes and great deals is the way to GO! I am definitely looking forward to returning later and giving the place a shot. We were staying at the Lyle Hotel around the corner and after checking in, we met up here with my brother and his dog, Otis, who live a block away. We sat outside and were quickly served waters. The service was great and prompt and they checked up on us which is rare these days when restaurants are short staffed. I ordered the chicken sandwich and it was absolutely delicious. I was quite full halfway through because the fried chicken piece was substantial but somehow was able to eat most of it because I couldn't stop. The bun was a brioche bun that just melted in my mouth. I ordered the potato salad and it wasn't my favorite and only had a few bites. It didn't have a lot of flavor and the potatoes were a little too hard for me. My husband ordered their burger and fries and the fries have this cinnamon and nutmeg spice that was something we had never experienced. It didn't really go with the burger so we hardly ate those. It's like you are having fries sprinkled with pumpkin spice. I think an old bay or savory seasoning makes more sense but to each their own. Great food, good beer & cool service! read more

Recently opened since Cinco de Mayo '21. I just stopped for an app and to enjoy the weather. Lots of outdoor, covered seating. I tried the loaded tots...aka "Tot-chos." They come with your choice of meat, I went with bacon. These nacho style tots also have a bottom layer of cheese wiz, green chili sauce, and iceberg lettuce. I thought it was a very nice app. The bottom tots (just like nachos) get a bit soggy. Next time, I might try the cheese wiz on the side? I need to go back for a burger. From the menu, this looks to be a specialty. Try the new location out on what was already an amazing restaurant strip. read more

My daughter recently moved close by and we went looking for a Sunday lunch spot. Such a great neighborhood and many different options. Wife wanted a burger so we slid into The Commodore and sat inside to get some AC even though most seating is outside in shade. Had a great server who told us the menu was brunch and fetched us some adult beverages. The vibe inside is "clean dive bar" and menu looked like it has something for everyone. We had smash burger & fries, breakfast burrito stuffed w fried chicken, rice, eggs and lots of goodies w home fries and a pesto caprese toast that looked really good. Everything was really yummy and there were clean plates all around. We actually overate and should boxed up some to take home but we were hungry. The Commodore is that dive bar w really good gastropub food every neighbor needs. Would definitely go back but also want to try the other varied options in close proximity. read more

Really cool bar. A really cool combo option for drinks with good shots. Had a very good dark liquor shot with a good IPA. I had the midwest pizza because in front the Midwest which was basically a buffalo chicken pizza with ranch. I have never received treatment as poor as I received from this establishment. Walked in with 4 friends and the place was pretty much empty. The guy at the door would not accept my ID, saying it's policy to not take out of state IDs and went to destroy it before we begged for it back and just left. I'm fairly certain there must have been another reason, but I would not like to assumedOur group was all 30 years old. Fortunately there were many other great places around, I recommend going to those. read more
