We had our wedding reception in the North Hall on November 14, 2015, and everything went fantastic!…read more We had about 120 guests at our reception, and there was plenty of room for more. Pros: 1) Price. For venues in DC, especially for its size, North Hall is VERY reasonably priced. They even offered us a discount for 100% payment at the time of booking. 2) Flexibility. North Hall does not have any "preferred" caterers, vendors, etc. Other venues may have an inexpensive reservation fee, but require you to book their caterers at $100+ a plate. As long as you/they have the required permits, you can book whomever suits your wedding. In our case, we had Chipotle catering! 3) Location. Located in the heart of Capitol Hill, North Hall is walking distance to the Capitol, 8th Street, and the Eastern Market metro station. We had our ceremony at a nearby church, and our guests walked a few short blocks to the North Hall. Additionally, the surrounding neighborhood is both historic and beautiful. 4) Responsiveness. Ms. Aiken was our primary POC, and was extremely helpful in ensuring we had the proper permits to serve alcohol and food at North Hall, making the "paperwork" side of our reception very easy. Additionally, a DC employee was present on site for our reception to help regulate temperature and lighting throughout the evening, which was very helpful! (Minor) Con: 1) Booking Hours. My memory is a little foggy as I reach back to our initial booking, but I believe the "base" hours are from 6pm-1am, and any time outside of that window comes at an additional cost. Additionally, the North Hall has to remain open to the public until 3pm, meaning that, while your vendors can set up prior to 3pm, the public still has access to the Hall. For our wedding, we reserved the North hall starting at 3 and had vendors work quickly to set things up for our 4:30 cocktail hour. Overall, North Hall is an incredible place to hold events and definitely a steal for the price! If you're looking for a flexible venue with a historic feel, look no further. We highly recommend it!

The brick exterior coupled with the large white-walled interior provided the perfect "blank canvas" to backdrop our event. We hosted nearly 100 people and had plenty of room for a live band and bar. The reason this review earned three stars was because of venue management. An important aspect of North Hall is that they will not let you do any setup prior to the event unless you pay per hour. As an example: our event started at 5pm and we had to pay 500$ more to start setup at 3pm. The real issue arose when we were informed that we could not leave anything in a closet or kitchen in order to make the "day-of" prep easier. Management allowed absolutely nothing from entering or remaining in the space despite there being no event prior to our reception. On a positive note, the two hour setup window provided a testament to how amazing our vendors were; they created a beautiful space with no help from North Hall. The management induced plenty of undue stress by being unclear of what permits were needed for the event. They went on to remind us with little time to prepare. This issue manifested itself one week prior to our wedding day, where our wedding coordinator, my wife, and myself scrambled to get permits for food, alcohol, etc. Overall, North Hall is truly lovely, but future customers should be aware that this venue is fortified by the bureaucracy of Washington D.C. Much like your local trip to the DMV, illogical policies and the lack of regard for the individual reign supreme. Weddings are stressful and emotional, no one should have to deal with the inefficiencies of government and the shortcomings of bureaucrats on their special day.

He was so responsive to every question we had, whether big or small, and made sure we had access to the space to visit ahead of time. The space was huge and there was outdoor space with a bar, seating and games. The servers were gorgeous and super friendly even with how busy they were. The dance space was spacious and perfect for all the dancing. My only note is there was no AC! It was sooooooooo hot in there and there was only one fan. I'm sure it was a last minute issue but they need fans in there as a back up. Especially with events with that many people.

Online the place looks great and interesting so we decided to hit it up around 9pm because it doesn't close until 2am. So when we walked in the place was pitch black and the vibe was really off. We had to pay $20 a person to enter which at first I was confused because I thought this place was games, bars, music, and vibes...not at all. So we were walking around and the crowd I'll just say wasn't the type I wanted to be around. Only one bar was open and the music was weird. So we decided to leave and when I asked the person who was taking the money what was going on tonight they said an event. Now, this event was not posted anywhere on their website or social media. So I would caution going at night or call beforehand because I don't think I would want to come back because it was nothing like it is portrayed online.

Despite the crowd, we had attentive service, with iced water jugs and stacks of glasses (for self service) tucked here and there to hydrate during competitive play. Had a few of the crudite appetizers on my plate, but a co worker ate them, lol. I didn't get to the pizza, but I did enjoy a slice of cucumber and a crunchy carrot;). There are big screen TVs and good vibe music to enjoy as well. FYI If you have a similar issue: I should have taken the elevator due to my bum knee, as it's downstairs, but I managed.

I've attended multiple events here, and the space consistently accommodates a good number of guests comfortably. During my most recent visit for the Krewe of Pyros day party, I enjoyed the relaxed open space atmosphere, when the weather warms up, the outdoor bar and seating becomes the spot. While the food leans toward standard American fare, the venue often features food vendors, adding a refreshing variety based on the event. Parking in the area can be a bit challenging, but I've usually been lucky enough to find street parking, even on snowy days. One area I'd like to see improvement in is the cocktail selection; I'm a fan of well-mixed drinks and would appreciate more options beyond the basics.
