The brick exterior coupled with the large white-walled interior provided the perfect "blank canvas" to backdrop our event. We hosted nearly 100 people and had plenty of room for a live band and bar. The reason this review earned three stars was because of venue management. An important aspect of North Hall is that they will not let you do any setup prior to the event unless you pay per hour. As an example: our event started at 5pm and we had to pay 500$ more to start setup at 3pm. The real issue arose when we were informed that we could not leave anything in a closet or kitchen in order to make the "day-of" prep easier. Management allowed absolutely nothing from entering or remaining in the space despite there being no event prior to our reception. On a positive note, the two hour setup window provided a testament to how amazing our vendors were; they created a beautiful space with no help from North Hall. The management induced plenty of undue stress by being unclear of what permits were needed for the event. They went on to remind us with little time to prepare. This issue manifested itself one week prior to our wedding day, where our wedding coordinator, my wife, and myself scrambled to get permits for food, alcohol, etc. Overall, North Hall is truly lovely, but future customers should be aware that this venue is fortified by the bureaucracy of Washington D.C. Much like your local trip to the DMV, illogical policies and the lack of regard for the individual reign supreme. Weddings are stressful and emotional, no one should have to deal with the inefficiencies of government and the shortcomings of bureaucrats on their special day.

I chose this space for my baby shower because I loved the blank canvas aesthetic. At the time I was booking, they were running to specials, a $200 new customer discount and an end of the year special. The End of the Year special was a better deal, so I inquired with the owner if I could use that even though my event was in February. The owner declined (which was completely fine), but offered a $300 if I booked the same day after my tour...which I did. In hindsight, there were red flags I should have paid more attention to when booking. During the tour of the venue we saw a bug on the floor and the chairs looked dirty. I brushed it off as a one-time issue. Unfortunately, that just foreshadowed my experience that was to come. When we arrived at our contracted time of 9:00AM on the day of the shower, the venue smelled like bleach, yet was still dirty from the night before. My family spent a SIGNIFICANT amount of time cleaning tables and chairs before they could even start setting up. Several chairs were also damaged upon my family's arrival -- something the owner tried to blame on my family at the end of the event. We also experienced electrical issues with this venue. My DJ arrived around 12PM noon to begin her set up and we learned shortly after that all the outlets on one side of the venue did not work. After spending a large amount of time trying to troubleshoot, I had to call the owner TWICE to ask her to come troubleshoot. She arrived just before 1PM to start troubleshooting while guests were already arriving. This further delayed the start of my event. Although the venue advertises it can hold over 100 people, we had approximately 80 guests and the space felt very crowded and hot. At one point, my husband had to ask the owner -- who was sitting in her car outside the venue -- to turn off the heat completely because of how uncomfortable both myself and my guests were. This was in February on a day it was snowing -- it was so hot we did not want heat in the middle of winter. When we brought our concerns to the owners, they became argumentative and placed blame on us rather than taking accountability. She offered NO meaningful resolution. When I requested a $200 refund due to the multiple issues (less than one hour of the rental rate) the owner refused, said I shouldn't get anything since she already gave me a $300 discount when booking, and finally offered a mere $50. As a new business, customer service and accountability are critical. While the venue photographed beautifully, the lack of professionalism, cleanliness, and lack of support on the day of my event left a lasting negative impression.

There was no elevator and as a person with mobility issues it was difficult, often painful, to reach the second floor where the service took place. The staff were pleasant mostly except when they asked us to go back downstairs for the cocktail hour, I refused because I knew that I would not be able to climb the stairs again. Cocktail hour was a joke since there were 2 bartenders to handle 200+ guests. I never got a cocktail or cool beverage - NOTHING WAS ON ICE! Not even the champagne. This venue was obviously not meant for this number of people - there were 2 unisex bathrooms with a total of 4 stalls - always a line, the caterer (required to use by the venue) was horrendous with all the food cold, drinks not cold and not enough. I'm sure that the bride and groom never noticed a problem, but when you leave such an event you shouldn't be figuring out where you want to go to eat. MY RECOMMENDATION - do not use this venue for more than 20 people.

The coolest part about using this event for a wedding is that the building is several levels and they utilize the space really well. For example, they flipped the ceremony room into the reception room and had the guests go downstairs for cocktails & hors d'oeuvres. Meanwhile, the wedding party went and took pictures in other areas. The only poor thing I have to say about the place was during the ceremony, the one window was directly in the sunlight so it made one side of the aisle really bright and difficult to see. My colleague, mentor and friend's book launch and masterclass was debuted here and what an event it was!! This community center was the perfect venue to launch such a spectacular book. There is ample parking, spacious rooms, and a great location to host any event. Please checkout the book "I Forgive You" ... it can change your perspective on human interconnectedness and interpersonal relationships! If someone wronged you and is shutting you out as punishment, this is their internal traumas showing in physical form... if communication isn't an option just forgive them. My next gripe... have sufficient seating or chairs in the common area of your establishment for people to sit down while waiting on the venue's ceremony room to transition into a reception room. You should not expect your guests, who may be physically challenged, senior citizens, or guests who may be standing in high heels to stand around after the ceremony for 30 minutes or more. My Mom (in her 80s) needed to sit down and the staff would not allow her to go into the reception area, just to find a corner to sit on a chair and out of the way. Lastly, cleaning attendants/engineers should be cleaning the bathrooms frequently. Ensuring paper towels are stocked and ample toilet paper is sufficient. Cleaning the floors from time to time due to water spillage around the sink floor. Especially since you have to walk across the bathroom to dry your hands at a hand dryer. To be honest, this review should be a damn "1". No matter how nice it looks inside, I will never recommend this place for a wedding ceremony/reception. Obviously this review is coming from a guest. I'm happy the couple is married and that I came to witness their beautiful ceremony. That part will always be an amazing memory.
