So we wanted to love this place. It's really spacious and we love the concept. Food was great with vegan options to share. It was First Friday and being our first time, we accidentally booked the normal rate instead of the first Friday rate. When we tried to have this fixed, the staff wasn't super thrilled but ended up applying this to our tab and refunding the rest. This is all fine, and we appreciate the gesture. The main issue was the attitude from the staff who did not make us feel very welcomed and we felt like we were being a huge burden even being at the venue. Our server Diamond was great. The main downside was the staff- the bartender was nice enough but the single waitress was mean for no reason. Ok Spin! I've seen this advertised a few times but never had the opportunity to go. Was out with a friend on the Friday after Thanksgiving and decided to check it out. We were looking for something to do after dinner and this was right across the way from where we were eating. We decided to book online and they were running a special for $10/hour. There is a security guard checking ID's when you enter so make sure you have one on you. You then walk down the stairs and enter into Spin. There is a host stand that you check in at and they walk you over to your ping pong table, explain the rules and let you go at it. At each table, you have two large buckets of balls so you don't have to chase the balls. Someone walks around and picks up stray balls every so often. They provide you with regular and sparkling water and a server comes around for any drink or food orders. We both had margaritas which were basic. They had speciality drinks that may be better prepared. An hour of play flew by and there is bar seating and lounge seating available as well as games around. My competitive spirit was flowing so we played Connect 4 for too many rounds. There were folks playing spades and uno as well. Overall, I would definitely go back. The place was nicely packed on a Friday around 11pm. The ambiance is relaxed and chill. This is a perfect date night with a cutie or with friends. read more

We had a great time at SPIN yesterday (a Saturday). DC has a lot of activity bars where you can play mini golf or other games, but SPIN is definitely my favorite so far. It's a ping pong bar, where you can reserve a ping pong table by the hour. There are buckets of balls (the staff pick up the balls throughout the day, so you don't have to go chasing after any unless you want to) and high top tables with stools next to each ping pong table where they serve you water and anything else you want (food and drinks - and a big menu, too). We played for an hour, had some N/A drinks while we played, and then a cocktail each at the bar after our hour of play was up. I hadn't played ping pong in a long time, and I had a ton of fun. We had reserved an hour starting at 2:30, and it was pretty empty at that hour (one other table playing ping pong and a few people drinking at the bar), but it was getting crowded when we left around 4:00 (probably more of a evening/nighttime activity - but we had fun taking a break from the stifling heat of the afternoon). On the drinks, I didn't love the cocktail I tried (probably my fault), but I loved the N/A drink I tried - refreshing and delicious. It's not cheap (a table is $50/hour), but we had a great time. Came to SPIN for a team happy hour and was pleasantly surprised with this bar/ping pong concept. First of all, I love to play ping pong, so I was already intrigued and after a few drinks I was able to talk some folks into playing and had some good matches and laughs. The place is large and has private rooms for private parties and large common area for the general public. All the equipment is new and in good condition. We also order some appetizers and really liked the flatbread pizzas. The only drawback for me is that they pre-mix their old fashioneds and are served on tap. They were a bit sweet for my taste but that was my only issue. Otherwise, the staff was really friendly and helpful. I look forward to coming back. read more

I went to SPIN for a weeknight gathering and had a good time. The venue was spacious, and I appreciated that they had many tables to play at in addition to some other games such as connect four, jenga, etc. You get no service in there since it's a basement, but they do offer guest wifi which resolves that issue. It was $50/hour to reserve a table, which is a bit steep, but I had a blast playing. I had an old fashioned and found it to be very sweet and not very strong. The service was...lacking. It took probably 20 minutes to order and get my drink. All the members of my group joked that they would put in their second drink order while they just began sipping on their first, that's how long it took. I switched to wine in hopes my drink would be delivered faster, with no such luck. The staff was very brusque when they told us that we needed to move from the tables to the bar if we wanted to stay at the venue. They were curt and it felt like they wanted us to leave so they could shut the place down; but it was about 9:30 PM when their hours state that they are open until 11:00 PM. I did not feel comfortable ordering another drink because of this, which killed part of the vibe. I would consider returning but would hope the staff would be a little more welcoming. read more

SPIN is such a good time! Kids are allowed before 9pm -- after 9pm, it's a no-kid zone :-) I've only visited after 9pm. There is a live DJ spinning (pun-intended) great music. You have to reserve the ping-pong tables in one hour increments. If tables are unavailable, you can play giant Jenga, Connect 4, or Uno. The food here is tasty! Not sure what I was expecting, but I think I would come for the food alone. The mushroom pizza and mushroom tacos?! Excellent. The mushroom tacos have a great spice to it...lovely. Spin has all the ingredients to make the perfect date night or going out with friends. Downstairs has a very industrial feel with a modern look from the exposed concrete pillars and wires you can still see from the ceiling. At the same time it is very up scale and modern from the deep blues and brown leather chairs. The menu is extremely easy to navigate and you really can't go wrong with anything from what I saw. My friend and I split a couple things we got the Mac n cheese balls which were amazing and they are served with a dipping sauce that in my opinion, should be served with everything because it was that tasty and worked well with the other items. The short rib sliders are probably some of the best sliders I've ever had and they should really offer that in a full size sandwich option or at least give you the option to order more then the 2 sliders it comes with. The birria boa buns were the least favorite for us. Visually appealing, but lacking in the flavor department. Birria alone should pack a major flavor punch and it just wasn't there. I relied heavily on the dipping sauce from the Mac n cheese bites to really help the boa buns along. My only complaint and i assume there is a reason for this, but there are multiple ping pong tables, but if you want to play it's $50 dollars. I didn't ask too much information past hearing the price so im not sure if that's flat rate play as much as you want or the price per hour. I did find out if you go on Tuesday after 9pm you can play for $9 per hour which in my opinion should be the daily deal. This is the second SPIN location I've been to (the other one being Spin Philadelphia), and I found this location to be pretty sub-par in comparison. Becuase of how their bookings work online, you can only book a table an hour out, so even if you show up and there are plenty of empty tables (exactly what happened to us), you'll have to wait 45+ minutes to actually be able to play while those tables remain completely empty. Some of the staff playing their own games while we waited was also somewhat obnoxious. At Philly, they were also very good about sweeping the floor and picking up ping pong balls, here they did a sweep maybe every 15 or 20 minutes. The atmosphere is fine. A little boring, but not unpleasant. Decent beer and snack selection (the truffle fries were decent), but I wouldn't head there if it weren't for the ping pong. The tables and paddles are great, though just over $50 for an hour is overpriced imo. read more

The space is MUCH bigger than I thought so there is plenty of space for several private parties to occur at once. And it is beautiful so make sure you look cute. First of all I can play ping pong in many places for free but this was a date night so I decided to try it out. I think this is a very commercialized establishment but it is something for us washingtonians to do. They really do put you on the clock so if you take breaks from the ping pong table they don't care and they will cut your time short. That's what happened to us. Anyway the other thing was the service was pretty poor My partner ended up having his drink taken away because he set it down while we were playing. And had to ask for it again. The wait was extremely long and it was borderline annoying to have to deal with this. The ping pong tables are quite fun. You can take the ping pongs away if you so choose. There's a lot of fun to be had in the place even if you don't like ping pong. They have other games like Jenga. I had one of their beers on top which was quite good the bartender was very friendly and gave me a sample book to try beforehand. We were hanging out, talking, socializing and when I looked up, I noticed they cleared my drink and water away at about 8:45pm. I was surprised because nobody asked if we were done. They just cleared the area, our glasses, the nice water bottles, everything and our coats and handbags were still there so it was obvious we were there, our backs were turned. It was pretty empty and not all the way packed nor super busy. So I couldn't understand. I'm saying this because drinks were $14 bucks so that was disappointing. When they served our pizza, it was served without napkins, silverware, nor plates. So we asked for those items and had to wait while the $20 pizza became cold. I shared it with a friend and he asked where were the napkins and silverware? I told him I had already asked. So he asked again. And we waited while our $20 pizza was getting cold. Typically, when pizza is served they bring out the plates and silverware first, then the pizza. So that is my minus 2 stars due to lack of attention to detail.
