I've been to every GameOn location (there are three in MD, and reviews of that are coming soon). But I came to the DC location on U St on Saturday night to celebrate my birthday, as I was given a VIP package to bring friends and get perks like $4 shot o'clock (more on that in a bit) and 1/2-priced tokens. The space is incredible, it's two stories, and it's not a ton of space, but they make it work! The drink menu is creative -- themed after pop culture movies, shows, and video games -- and GameOn really plays into the bit of this being a nerdy bar. They even have anime and game shows playing, so don't come in here expecting to watch the NBA Finals or some shit like that. The arcade selection is decent! NFL Blitz, Tetris, Area 51, Street Fighter II, and Mortal Kombat 2 and MK3 machines were highlights. The service was incredible I mostly stayed on the second floor and the bartenders manning the fort on May 2nd were just the nicest people! So about that shot o'clock wheel, it's one of the coolest bits at all GameOn locations. You pay $6 and the bartender will spin the wheel -- whatever it lands on you take a shot of it. The food is also great (recommend the hot dog or hamburger). Also the slushies, adult Capri suns, and the "they killed Kenny" cocktail were incredible as well. Def check this place out. read more

GO KNICKS I popped into Gameon to watch the NBA Finals game 5 since Sport & Social up the street was too packed. Getting into the bar was easy. Just need to show your ID to the security. Upon entry I noticed there was a bar upstairs and then one on the main floor. Both bars sit maybe about 12 people with small seating on the sides. Both bars have multiple TV's. What I loved is that, - they have $5 shot specials on Saturdays - drinks were pretty strong - the arcade games looked like a lot of fun. I have no idea how much it cost because I didn't go to that side What I didn't love as much, -the upstairs bar didn't open till 10 pm forcing us to go downstairs to get drinks/food which was already packed since there was only 1 bartender. Later as the night went on there were about 4 bartenders. I wish they were a bit more prepared for the increased customers that would come in since the World Cup and nba finals were going on. But also maybe they didn't know - the team wasn't necessarily the friendliest - I was annoyed that the manager didn't want to change one of TV's from soccer to the basketball game despite everyone in the area crowding around the 1 tv that has basketball. Then like the last quarter of the game the TV that had soccer on was just turned off I would come back again to enjoy the arcade games. read more

I've been to the other locations for GameOn and like the other ones, this one does not disappoint. If you like arcades with pinballs and many old school arcade cabinets, you are in for a treat. They also had old school anime playing on the tvs just to remind you how long ago that was. I mainly got beer here to drink but I did play a couple of the games. I think it was just Yeungling as far as I remember. The menu features cocktails, beers/ipas/ along with snacks you can order to share or to eat! I think the service will be a tad slow but I believe it's worth the wait when everything comes together. I will also note that the arcade also takes tokens so please bring cash ( there is an atm but they have a fee ) so just keep that in mind when you are visiting there for the first time. read more

We had the best date night at Game On! My husband and I played a few games and were in constant competition the whole night. If you're competitive like us, just know it's on sight once those games start lol They've got a great selection of arcade games, fun pinball machines, and even a rubber ducky grab claw machine (which low-key becomes personal after a few tries). It's the perfect mix of nostalgic and chaotic fun. The menu is simple but solid, hot dogs, burgers and shareables. They also have a full bar, which is always a plus. Definitely a great spot for date night or a night out with friends. Service was cool, but it does get packed, so keep that in mind if you're going on a weekend. My group comes to Game On monthly and every time, we get a good place to talk about a book. The music is kept low, no other patrons come to the space, people get food and drink that they like. We've tried a couple of places around this area but Game On is the place where we will stay. Highest recommendation! read more

I came here for their furlough event which was a good gesture. They gave out 20 tokens, 2 drink tickets, and 1 food ticket for furloughed government employees which was a great gesture. Love that they did that. However I did not care for the bartenders. They were a little rude and kind of soured the mood. Also the drinks on the drink menu wasn't that great. I had the Cactus juice and it was way too sweet. Didn't love it. My friend had the Koopa Troopa and sent it back. If I were you I'd just get a regular drink if I came here and not order off the menu. The ambiance was great. Looks very retro and they have some cool retro games. Overall it was a good space. But the one bar tender being rude annoyed me to no end. And my friends said the wait for their food was long. It's a cool spot. I'd stop by here if I was bar hopping. Just don't expect the drinks on the menu to be great and again you'll have to deal with the weird/unwelcoming personalities of the bar tenders. Updating my review: my food came out pretty quickly. My friend's food took an hour to be delivered she said. However, that was never the issue I had. I don't know the bartender's names but there were three of them. Two of them were good. One of them was being super extra for no reason when my friend, and then I, was asking her for the complimentary shot we were told they were giving out. I literally said, "can I have one also please" referring to the shot after I saw her giving it to someone else, she then spoke to me like I was a child saying that I needed to say "MAY I have a shot please?" Like I am in kindergarten. This lady was thinking that I'm going to beg for this shot. It's not that deep. The two Blk female bartenders were cool. I had no issues with them. The third one, I'm not sure if she was white or Asian, was super extra for no reason pretty much expecting me to beg for a shot, that was sponsored mind you. The manager came and smoothed it over somewhat afterwards and mentioned my review above. I would update my review but I'm not seeing that option. But then again, I don't care to anymore thinking again just how antagonistic that bar tender was being. She literally made an entire scene over this shit. I love bars with arcades so I wanted to come back here again prior to this incident. But I really don't want to deal with that bartender again. I was looking forward to coming back here, but why would I want to spend my money here in the future and deal with this lady on her power trip. Overall it is a decent spot. The door staff and everyone else was cool. Check this place out if you want. The food I had was good and they have cool retro games. Game ON. It's on U Street and it's so much fun. It's a lot of old school retro games. They've got pinball they've got skee-ball. They have really good bar food as well. The Mac and cheese bites are fire, esp with that hot honey. Bartenders are AMAZING. Nick is one of my favorites. And the ladies kickass -- bartender hasset, amonie, and amity. Thrilled to have a local place where the party's happening. Customer service is over the top. Oh, man, what a blast from the past! Cool setting, fun games, and decent food. And--best of all--it's not always insanely crowded. I tend to go on school nights, and there are certainly people there. But the main reason I don't go out to bistros more is that they can be like Grand Central when all the trains are leaving late. This one is actually fun to be in. so much fun! This is the first bar i have ever visited outside of Massachusetts. I will have to come down to DC more often. I have never seen so many arcade games in my whole life. They've got all the good ones, Tetris, Mortal Kombat, Lethal Enforcer, you name it. Not only that, but they have a full bar. The cocktails were great, I tried the Reboot. Very refreshing.
