I've been hearing about this place for years but never actually stopped by. They're currently on my list of weekend happy hour spots, having it all day on Sundays. I made a last minute change to meet a friend here, but much to my surprise... they had a PS5 and Tekken booted up at the bar. I am by zero means a Tekken player. Yes, I'm a huge gamer, but I'm terrible at Tekken. But the mere concept of being able to watch and play it at a bar is incredible. That aside, they got a bunch of board games like Trouble, Uno, Trivial Pursuit... the classics man! Oh right, the bar part. Their drinks are great. The staff are great. The specials are great. And they give you popcorn! And they have a whole little table with all the popcorn fixings if you don't want to eat it plain. You can literally bring in food from anywhere on top of that. My go to spot once or twice a month. Straight to the point with great aesthetics. Love the wood look and clean dive bar vibes.. they have a huge variety of beers and kozys to put them in since they don't have draft beer. The bartenders no matter what day it is always execute with divine hospitality!! Quintessential dive! I love this place, it's nice and dark . It has an extensive menu (although I wish it had more ciders). Even when it's busy you don't have to wait too long to get service. I've always enjoyed talking to the bartenders who are friendly but also cool (if that makes sense?). They also offer free popcorn! I know it's so people drink more, but popcorn is a million times better than peanuts or pretzels. Since they don't otherwise order food, they let you bring in your own. I enjoyed having a drink with my Shake Shack. My one complaint is that there aren't more seating options. Those fill up quickly on weekends when it's busy. I haven't been there for trivia, but I heard it gets super busy. Would love to check it out sometime. read more

Kingfisher is probably one of my favorite bars in all of Washington, D.C. It's a zero frills low key vibe. Get your bucket of popcorn with your favorite canned beer or wine and chill out with some friends. The bartenders are always friendly so that's definitely a plus too. If you're going with a big group, I recommend going earlier to make sure you can get seating. read more

We came here with some local DC people. I didn't know what to expect when we walked down the stairs. They give you a koozie with your first round. Great advertising!. Came here to meet up with a friend. You can easily miss this spot as the liquor store sign is a lot more visible. If you are walking from the metro station, it's a few doors past Players Club. Free popcorn. That's pretty much the only food you need from here. Freshly baked often. The beer menu is pretty extensive. The only stout they had available at the time was the Caboose Hobo ($13). All served with the original can and they give you a coozie to take with you. Not a bad place to meet up with friends or go out for the night. This is a great bar on 14th street with great vibes! It wasn't too crowed, the bartenders were attentive, and the drinks/deals were good! They have happy hour until 8pm every day, you can bring in your own food, and they have a selection of board games to play! My friend and I had a great time here on a Saturday night, without feeling like we were getting stepped on and piled on top of each other at a bar. the guy bartender at night (4/13) was so so rude. My friends and i said "hey" when he looked in our direction and he acted so offended and said "hey? thats rude" and said he was too busy grabbing the few cups on the bar to serve us. so at that point we said nevermind and we even apologized and said we are bartenders and weren't trying to be rude and he just shrugged. as a fellow bartender, get over yourself respectfull!!! Came here for Bingo night on Monday at 8-10PM hosted by DC Fray. We came in around 7:30 and got a good table. The bartender was friendly and a rail drink was only $5 during happy hour!!! 11/21 the popcorn machine was out of commission. Part of the reason why we came was so we could have popcorn with many seasonings choices. We were pretty disappointed when we came but we ended up staying for 1 or 2 beers. This is a great place to just casually drink and play some board games. It is easy to miss this place while walking on 14th street if you are not paying attention because there are so many places on this strip. The bar is pretty cool because they serve free freshly popped popcorn and they have games. They have everything from your classic monopoly to different decks of Cards Against Humanity. The popcorn unlike other places is actually fresh and good. The bar serves beer, wine, cocktails, and snacks. Extremely Disappointed. Went to this bar last night with my friends and when we tried to enter, one of my friends was denied while we are all over 21. The bouncer was so rude to my friend; told her there's no way she's 5'7" because she was wearing heels, and her hair was too blonde. He really didn't let her into the bar because of cvs hair dye and tall boots. When I asked for his name and the general managers email he wouldn't give it to me. So unprofessional! He said "you can tell the manager that the bouncer with the beard wouldn't let your friend in because he's good at his job" Well clearly, bouncer with the beard, you are terrible at your job and at interacting with humans. No interest in returning to this terrible bar with terrible energy, and I will be telling all of my over 21 friends to do the same. No wonder it was so dead on a Thursday night. read more

Do not go here!! I heard it was an industry bar so I went to check it out with a coworker after our shift. My only issue was a man, who I assume was the bouncer, getting in my face, calling me a B*** and yelling at me to take the beer can we left on the ledge back down the stairs before exiting. We left the can on the ledge keeping the koozi that the bar gives each of its customers because obviously we know not to take alcohol out of the venue. He berated me and continue to call me a b*** as we walked away. Stay away from this bar until that man is fired. read more

I lived in Logan Circle for nearly four years and not a day went by that I didn't wish the neighborhood had a bar like Kingfisher. A small, tucked away basement bar with friendly staff, solid-but-unpretentious-beer list, cheap happy hour specials, and a good jukebox that aims to be nothing more than a solid neighboring watering hole. No kitchen...no attempts at an expensive craft cocktail menu...just a tiny little bar serving booze. The staff has been friendly every time I've stepped in and the folks I've chatted with at the bar have always seemed friendly and laid back. A bar like this is my favorite kind of bar. Every neighborhood needs a place or three like this. That said, I did subtract a star for the jukebox not working. There was a note saying it was unpredictable and might easily swallow your money and not work, which happened to me. Come on guys, just fix the jukebox. Otherwise, I've got nothing bad to say about this place. read more

Stumbled into Kingfisher on Cinco de Mayo. Great basement bar with popcorn (which is great when you're drinking). They have a few TVs, a few games and great drinks. Everyone in this bar was super friendly and the drinks are reasonably priced (for DC drinks). They also have a few drink specials. I don't believe they have food available, but I think you can bring food if you like. read more

The bouncer of the Kingfisher is _probably_ not a serial killer, despite his claim to the contrary, though he did seem a bit overqualified to be minding door at 4pm. Either way, it is always nice for an interesting visit to a cool bar to begin with the casual (and courteous) ID-check. No one is going to find Kingfisher by accident, and that is a good thing. It hit the sweet spot between trendy (without being pretentious) and welcoming (without becoming a try-hard). The bartender was very friendly, and the crowd was mellow. Particularly alluring was the beer-and-shot-combo special, with pairings assembled by someone who clearly knew their stuff. Free popcorn is always welcome. In short, the 'Fish is a quintessentially good bar, or at least it was from 4-6 on a Sunday. Who knows, it could overflow with drunken brotards on another evening, but then again, perhaps the bouncer's night-work keeps that cohort to a minimum. read more

It's a little small, in a basement, with no windows, and no food besides popcorn, so it really is just a local watering hole, and there's nothing wrong with that. read more

BEST SPOT FOR HAPPY HOUR!!! This bar is like the CHEERS of 14th Street. Great bar, always lively, and the bar tenders know your name. Also, there's popcorn! My co-workers and I ALWAYS hit this bar for Friday (and sometimes Thursday) happy hours. The bar tender, Sam, is the best! Always welcoming with a good drink suggestion on deck. My co-worker dropped a glass in there and the dry-humored bar tender with the epic beard came out with a mop and assured everyone that it was in fact "the first time that's ever happened" and he kept the party going instead of getting upset. I dig the vibe of this place. Somehow they manage to make it look like there's natural sunlight shining through here when this place is a total hole in the wall. It's in a basement but it looks good. I came here for my husband birthday after having a dinner at the other place. My husband ordered a shot and got food reaction. he did not feel right after taking that shot and had to throw it out. Unfortunately, he couldn't make it to the restroom. So we got kicked out and it was totally understandable for the bar policy. However, his birthday night wasn't be ruined if the bartender made a statement that she would call all the bars around the 14th st to prohibit him coming in. How do you feel when you hear that on your birthday night out with your friends when it was food reaction? Fyi, He was not drunk at all. His friend admitted that the shot didn't taste right and it was sort of warm than it should not be. They should have checked their alcohol's quality and checked their customer if he did get food poison before concerning calling other bars to stop his birthday going. Also, the bar smelled very funny and old (not only myself smelled that bc my group also agreed with me). I think The food inspection should take some actions at here. NOT recommend this place if you don't want to get alcohol poison or ruin your party night because your bartender may call other bars to stop you coming there. read more
