This place is the true definition of a neighborhood corner bar. It's cozy inside with a nice, airy patio, and the bartenders are so friendly and knowledgeable. They have a good selection of beer and wine, but their cocktails are where they really shine - there's a shortlist of specials on the board above the bar, but my friend who brought me showed me the pro-tip of pulling up the full cocktail library on their website! The one I chose had aperol, rum, maybe some grapefruit/other fresh citrus juice? Whatever it was, it was absolutely phenomenal. So smooth and clearly made by a very seasoned mixologist. Went to All Souls for a date and I've never been before. They only have like bar snacks but they obviously have a wide array of drinks. The servers were nice and down to earth. It gave rocker, dim lighting, vibey. I saw a lot of people there on dates and a couple groups of friends. It wasn't the most outrageous prices for drinks. I got the Rose and Makers Mark which was $12 for the two drinks. A 2 in 1, which is good for a date if you're a Rosé girl like me and are with someone that likes Bourbon. Came for the spacious patio outside and was pleased with how friendly and open the bartenders were to us brining our own food to eat while we drink. That alone deserved 5 stars. But no, the inside was on brand and cool. The drink menu is condensed, but I like it that way (less overwhelm). I ordered a cosmo which was just perfect--maybe best I've ever had and a beautiful pink color. I also ordered a no 45, which was tasty and refreshing. Some time around 8pm the place got really busy where tables were covered and the inside was standing room only, so I feel this is a good spot to start your night. read more

This is my sister's default bar; she's a DC native. She converted me and it's where I bring friends when I'm here on a work trip. It's a cozy, dark, neighborhood bar focused on cocktails, mostly made from standard ingredients (I wouldn't exactly call it "craft" but they're not basic either. ) Service is quick, staff are friendly, and if you look through the library on their website, there's guaranteed to be a drink for you. They've started using more products made in DC, which is also cool. Prices are lower than most cocktail bars, and yes they do add a mandatory 22% "tip", but people, wait staff have to eat. They now kind of have a little food, but basically bring it yourself or order in. Can't go wrong with a giant slice from the pizza next door. I'll stop coming back here when it burns down, pretty much. read more

As I continue to tackle my list of places to go in DC, I decided to check out this place yesterday. It was meh. It's a dive bar located in a pretty quiet neighborhood. The bartender wasn't friendly at all. She was busy writing things in a notebook and doing crossword puzzles and seemed like a rather unfriendly person. The drinks were ok. This place definitely isn't my cup of tea but I wanted to scratch it off my list as it gets good reviews online. read more

First, the quality is as top notch as ever, and tasting the amazing flavors of a number 25 and an 8 again after so many months made it a special weekend. You can even get entire cocktail kits, which get you whole bottles of the ingredients along with recipes. Even better, they package the cocktails in high quality glass bottles with sealed tops, so you don't have to worry about spillage. They're honestly so nice we're saving them and trying to figure out good uses for them. The best of the best is the cost of delivery: FREE! They don't even charge a service fee like all those annoying apps. We will definitely be ordering again. Cheap place relative to an actual cocktail bar but the vibe here is closer to a dive bar. Bar tenders aren't actually mixologists, you can tell by ordering a basic mixed drink which to be honest can be a good thing if you want a cocktail that's really heavy on liquor. Not a lot of snacks or finger food options, rude and obnoxious staff, one restroom, overall depends what you're looking for to be honest if it's a neighborhood watering hole then yeah go for it but if it's a night out on the town then no. It's bar service, and the bartenders are always super nice and make drinks quickly. The ambiance is one of the best parts of this bar - the low lighting with candles creates a great atmosphere. While we were in DC and we had some time to kill (before dinner reservations) we stopped in here for a few cocktails. We scored parking right out front and got seated in a nice, outdoor table (the weather was perfect for it). Our server advised us all of their Covid policy and they followed that to the letter! Their cocktails were made really well! They have a large menu of cocktails and they can make nearly anything else you desire. They offer a couple of small bites (nuts & olives) and you can even bring your own food or get delivery from nearby places, which is rather unique. Overall, this was a nice visit and we'd definitely return when in the area again. Prices are VERY reasonable too! read more

Cozy dive bar in Shaw. Small indoors area that can rapidly get crowded on a weekend night, especially when they have to close the outdoor patio at 10pm due to neighborhood ordinances. I love their cocktails and the classy upscale ingredients. A big draw is their extensive menu section which lists 43 of them. The bartenders are always polite and efficient and the establishment is kept clean and neat. As a note, the bar has no Happy Hour (boo!) and has a 22% auto-gratuity, but: (1) most bars in DC have these anyway, (2) they are very upfront about it and state you don't need to tip more, and (3) these are cocktails and if you aren't tipping at least 20% anyway then you're doing a big disservice to the places you are visiting. read more

The space looked small but was quite cozy and comfortable. We sat together and chatted easily without disturbing others. There is one restroom but it was clean and gender neutral. This place knows how to make a great drink! I got the #2 (a Manhattan). It's a nice, boozy, powerful drink that tastes great and is a nice, clean sip while you're hanging out. Although the bar's proximity to a school raised a lot of issues with the liquor license and opening, it does provide one huge benefit: the odds of you running into someone who is a registered sex offender at the bar is pretty low. All Souls is a corner bar, on a relatively quiet street with a cool curved bar inside and seating capacity for about 30-40 people. The atmosphere is chill, it seems to attract a fair share of neighborhood locals, and the staff is incredibly friendly. The minute you sit down, they are right over with your water. The drink menu is simple, in a very good way. You won't have to decide between 75 specialty cocktails that all sound the same, you get a choice of 4 cocktails here (around $11) and here are your choices: #1-The Barcelona (Marker's Mark sidecar with a splash of cava) #2-Manhattan #3-Negroni #4-All Souls (sparkling rose with a shot of Marker's Mark) All the drinks are made with great care.The wine list has some interesting labels and I want to come back to try a few sparking wines. The beer list (the most popular offering is the Heavy Seas Powder Monkey Pale Ale) has five beer bottles and cans and four drafts. The menu in fact is so simple that I managed to remember it, even after I had been drinking. This bar has easily become one of my favorite spots in the city. And...The best part of this bar is the name. If you had a punk rock upbringing, you'll think it's a great name for a bar. read more

No. 5 - Riverboat rye, Aperol, fresh orange juice, Regans bitters. No. 6 - Maker's, St-Germain, Dolin dry vermouth, fresh grapefruit juice. No. 7 - French 75: Tanqueray, Cointreau, fresh lemon juice, cava. No. 8 - No. 9 - Martinez: Tanqueray, Dolin dry vermouth, dry curacao, Regans bitters. No. 10 - Old Overholt rye, Cynar, fresh OJ, Angostura bitters. No. 11 - [something with dry Dolin] No. 12 - Maker's Mark and bonal. The All Souls ($11): sparkling rose w/a Maker's neat. Here comes another great rating for All Souls Bar. Sahar & I checked this place out around 10 p.m. on a Saturday night, so it was fairly packed, but we managed to grab bar seating. The place isn't huge, but it doesn't need to be. Crowd was great--a real mix of patrons, unlike so many bars which tend to skew a certain way. I thought service was awesome. It was loud and crowded, so we didn't really get to chat with our bartenders, but they were friendly and the drinks were well-made and reasonably priced. Menu is small, divided into a handful of wine and beer and four cocktails. I ordered the No.1--Barcelona: Makers side car with a splash of cava. It was great, though a bit more citrusy than I was expecting. Sahar had the No. 3--Negroni: Tanqueray, Cynar, and Caprano. While we both agree it was made well, it has the flavor profile of what we imagine a pine tree would taste like, so that wasn't to our liking. I really like the red wine selection--Cotes-du-Rhone, Granacha, and Malbec, so I'll definitely be back to check out those. Plus, they offer a sparkling rose. A sparkling, pink wine? Bartenders here are great at suggesting cocktails and they also have a vast cocktail library online to choose from. I've been here several times and haven't had an issue finding seating inside. Outside patio can fill up quickly in the summer. read more

I wasn't sure what to make of that, but it soon became clear that her comment was a spot-on description of both the ambiance and decor. Sure enough, even the name itself suggests that All Souls Bar is a nonjudgmental neighborhood bar that welcomes all souls to drink to their hearts' content. It's tucked away on T Street, away from the hustle and bustle of U Street bars, so expect less raucous debauchery here. And it even manages to be cozy in spite of its no-frills decor. Think of All Souls as a manifestation of your best friend's studio apartment -- who needs to head to a crowded bar when you can bring over some drunchies and talk about nothing and everything for hours? This bar has an open food policy, so you're more than welcome to bring in your own food, order delivery, or head to the CVS down the block for snacks if you're feeling collegiate. (That is something one of my friends did here when we were in college. She dipped subpar strawberries from CVS into her Sapporo beer.) I believe the cocktail menu rotates every now and then, but my go-to drinks here are the No. 2 (a French 75 for when I want some bubbly with my gin) and the No. 14 (a drink with Jensen's Old Tom gin, Amaro Averna liqueur, and fresh grapefruit juice). I have been wanting to try this place for awhile now. Definitely worth the hype. Came around 10pm on a Friday it was packed but we lucked up and got two seats at the bar. Started with a no 7 based on other reviews but it wasnt as sweet as others have stated. But I enjoyed the no 26 and 23, both sweet but the 26 was a little bit sweeter in my opinion. If you're a gin lover, get the no. 7. You won't be disappointed. ;) Admittedly I have only been to All Souls Bar twice, and the first time was on a lackluster date on a rainy day, so this place was off my radar for a while. Last night I came back and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of drinks at a $9 price point. (I mean, seriously, I pay $7 for rail vodka sodas literally all the time so it's definitely worth the $2 upcharge for Tanqueray.) This place is pretty stripped down. They don't serve food, there is limited seating, and there doesn't appear to be table service. Surely this helps them maximize the space they have and keep costs down while focusing solely on the drinks. I'm into it. There should be more places like this in DC. As a tip, if you're coming with a large group at a peak hour, be prepared to wait to snatch a table. Then again, there's nothing wrong with enjoying your drink while standing near the bar. read more

Solid late night bar, which is one of the few places that seems to stay open past 2:00 AM in DC. It can get a little cramped inside, but when the patio is open, it is perfect to sit out on and have a nice drink either after work or after a late night out. The prices are also reasonable and the pours are usually pretty heavy for the wine. My favorite deal of theirs is the basically two for one special of a glass of rose and a glass of Makers Mark neat for only $11. Perfect to share with a date or with yourself, depending on how your night is going. read more
