Decent broth, but lacking depth. Ordered a couple of bowls of pho which were very filling. Packaged well to go (although they combine hoisin and sriracha into one container). The noodles are thick and there are a ton of them in the soup. Also tried egg rolls - very thin rice paper outside and crispy, tasty. Garden rolls - very large and full of noodles, the pork was dry and given the size we needed a lot more sauce. And had grilled lemongrass beef on vermicelli - which also lacked flavor. Mostly notes of grill char and salt - needed more sugar to balance and more lemongrass flavor, the cup of fish sauce wasn't enough.
MASSIVE portions. I've never had so much noodles in my bowl of pho. Broth is rich and slightly sweet for my taste but still yummy enough. My friend is vegetarian and really liked her bowl, had tofu and cauliflower in it. All my friends were floored with how much noodles we kept slurping up. Left so full, def worth sixteen bucks haha. Cute casual restaurant with high ceilings and booth seatings all around. You pay at the cashier after you're done eating. Would recommend if you want bang for your buck!
I was looking for my new local pho spot and PhoNatics might end up being the one. The service is very quick and all the workers are very friendly and welcoming. I ordered the Chicken Pho and it tasted great! They have an extensive menu that goes way beyond just pho so there is plenty to try. The space is clean with a lot of seating if you would like to dine in and convenient small tables for solo diners like me. My only critique would be I wish they had size options just because I cant always finish a big bowl of Pho but of course take out is always an option!
Cute little spot in Northwest DC. The staff is super friendly and offered many suggestions, in fact, I asked the server to order me her favorite and she selected the Pho Shrimp. Definitely something I would've never ordered but after having it, I will definitely be ordering it again. Not pictured, was a chicken banh mi. It was perfect!
Pretty tasty pho, would return. I got take out and it definitely tops as one of the best pho places I've had in DC. They give you a lot of food I was stuffed at the end. The broth had lots of flavor and toppings were tasty as well.
First time here . Best PHO I've ever tasted . I love PHO & usually go to another place not too far but they have now gained a regular ! Customer Service was good and service was great & friendly . I ordered Veggie pho w/ veggie broth . When I say ,it was sooo flavorful ! I wanna go back for more ! From the broth to the tofu , everything was delicious & tasted fresh ! The only thing I didn't like was, seeing the man in the back ,using is hands to soak the noodles in a bucket . I have OCD so that turned me off . I already paid... Honestly, I prayed over my food & acted like I didn't see it ! Just use gloves please ! I thing anybody and everybody should use gloves while dealing with food . I love the quotes on the table . Too cute :)
steaming hot take incoming that barely has anything to do with phonatics - I really like pho, it gives the warm soup feeling while still being filling and not leaving me still a hangry a$$ without leaving my entire body sodium flooded like ramen does - so with that in mind, I believe pho is one of those foods that is consistently a 5/10. unless the meat is rotten, I swear it's always like "yes this is good, did the trick, but I'm not gonna write home about it" - has anyone ever RAVED about pho? If SO, please point me to the restaurant and I'll go tonight. - the portion and price point were wonderful, food came out fast and the shrimp in the bottom bowl and the three (yes 3) different types of pho in the top bowl were all scrumptious - love how you can add your own hoisin sauce, pay at counter even though you order seated which made us feel dumb as we waited lol
after grabbing my fav coffee at Little Hat Coffee down the street (inside Streets Market) i stopped by for lunch! phonatics pleasantly surprised me! the pho broth was rich and truly delicious. the portions were generous, and i found myself unable to finish my meal. their summer rolls were a great size, four huge half-rolls. the place offers a decent amount of seating, and the staff is really nice and attentive just a heads-up: payments are made at the counter!
Pho 54 is the better pho places in dc. When I went it wasn't busy and the place was very nice. We got spring rolls and it was delicious! I'm usually very picky when it comes to pho but this place did not disappoint. The broth was flavorful and the meats was tender and juicy. The portions were filling enough and maybe even more. Service was quick and fast and will definitely come back when in the need for good hot pho.
I needed to eat urgently and was close by. I have passed this place so many times and assumed the food would be good. I'm not a fanatic, but I've had many bahn-mi in my days and this was hands down the best I've ever had. I went with the veggie for something light and was suprised by the toasted baguette and expertly fried(?) tofu. It was excellent. I don't normally give reviews but felt compelled. Will be back to try the lemongrass beef and pho.
Phonatics Noodle Bar is a small Vietnamese eatery located off of 14th; we thought that it was fortuitous that this was right around the corner from where we were, so we came here for an early dinner. We were welcomed and were able to choose any table. You had to scan the QR code that was affixed on the table, and a staff member will come to take your order. We ordered: +Summer Rolls - opting out of the pork, this came filled with small shrimp and more heavier on the noodles and the lettuce; this seemed more of a veggie roll, and dipping it into their hoisin/peanut sauce with some sriracha made it fine +Beef Summer Rolls - I was not a fan of this, as the beef had an off-putting taste/odor to it; my friend thought it was extremely salty +Rocket Shrimp - typical wonton-wrapped shrimp that you find in Thai restaurants, this was super over-fried, which resulted the shrimp inside very rubbery +Banh Mi Lemongrass Chicken - the chicken, while generous in portions, was super bland and seemed to not have any marinade/seasoning on it; also, we found it odd that the meat was not hot and served less than lukewarm; in addition, the pickled daikon/carrots were limp-y, and weren't fresh - even though these are supposed to be pickled, the odor of them seemed like they were spoiled, if that's even possible! +Grilled Lemongrass Chicken Vermicelli bowl - same situation with the flavorless chicken, this was hardly touched; the ratio was off in terms of the amount of noodles in there I think what left such a bad taste in our mouths was the following: +prices on their main website as well as the prices via their QR code (that also directs you to their menu page on their main website) are incorrect - we just couldn't understand why we were charged individually such an exorbitant amount when the bill was being split between us - we realized that the Rocket Shrimp was shown as $10, but the bill priced it at $11.99; we also realized that gratuity/tip must have been automatically included with our calculations, in which we added additional gratuity without knowing - we weren't informed of this beforehand (this is why I hate those type of payments because it places so much pressure on the customer in making it so obligatory to choose a tip option) +we did reach out to the owner(s) of Phonatics to give them an opportunity to explain/remediate; the offer of the $2 refund would require us to go back, in person, to the eatery for the transaction; I'm sorry, but you offer an electronic payment in the restaurant, was able to look up our bill in the system, but are unable to just process the refund? Obviously, we're not going to drive back into D.C. for the $2, but it's just super irksome, and, yes, you're right, Justin - this 'remediation' didn't warrant a response User error: For some reason, we didn't on this visit, but remember to always request an itemized bill as well as a copy of your receipt. Oh, did I mention that even though the owner said the prices have been updated, it's still not? See added photos (as of 5/5/23). It's pretty clear that the ones who are giving this place 5 stars are family/friends of the owner who are not/who never were patrons of this place. Fortunately, we were able to pick up some snacks at a market down the street to commiserate the poor choice of trying out Phonatics. +inaccurate prices on their site/menu +request an itemized check/copy of the receipt +cold, bland food

Fast, casual, and flavorful. Service- you look at the menu through a QR code and either order at the counter or if employees is not busy (with Togo orders) will come over and take your order Food- pho was so tasty. The broth was full flavors and great portions of protein and veggies. Space- the space is small and simple. About 8 tables, clean. I will come back and even order takeout! read more

Visiting DC area and was craving pho since it was 50 degrees out. This place did not disappoint. Their broth is clean and well seasoned. One could say it's pho-nomenal. I'm picky about my pho broth and this place really hits the spot. read more

I went to culinary school. The broth is a solid 3/5. The flavors are there, but it could use a lot more simmering to develop the rich umami profile. The chicken was very well served. The aromatics were fresh. I did not like the cheap plastic spoon. read more

Let me preface by saying that PhoNatics used to be one of my favorite Vietnamese restaurants in the city, but as of late they are slowly becoming my least favorite. I ordered to go, usually I'll eat inside. The order was packed horribly and my drink spilled all over my food. You don't play with people food like this! read more

I came here during lunch because I was really craving pho on a cold day. I saw the high ratings and was super excited. The place was in a great location with great decor and it felt really well lit. The broth was so bland that I had to pour a bunch or siracha and hoisin to feel like I got any flavor. I feel like when eating pho that's solely what I base it on. Also the meat was super tough and seemed overcooked. The sauce for the spring rolls just was ok and didn't seem like it was the right sauce-maybe I'm just used to fish sauce. The bathrooms were terribly maintained with the paper towels hanging loose on top of the dispenser -and just a squirt bottle of soap that poured all over me. Really wish it was better. The guy at the register was really nice and attentive. read more

Super incredible spot right on 14th street about a block from U street. They have a nice menu and cute place if you want to eat at the restaurant. They have great customer service and are quick with your order! I'm not sure what it is inside the restaurant but it smells amazing! It was something sweet and brightened my mood a little bit upon walking inside! I ordered the summer rolls and the pho dac beit (beef pho) and they were both outstanding! The summer rolls you could tell were made fresh. The crisp greens with the shrimped dipped in the peanut sauce was amazing! I also love the pho. It was exactly what I needed after a long day. The pho broth was super flavorful and filling. They gave me a ton of mean and broth. The thinly sliced beef was a little tough but it's cut so thin that I didn't mind it. I wish they have put cilantro in the container of greens but otherwise I can't complain. The food was fantastic and excited to go back for more! read more

Absolutely love this restaurant. The food is incredible. The banh mi is really good and doesn't skimp on the meat. We loved how crispy the egg rolls were and our toddler ate the majority of them, so definitely recommend for kiddos. The pho was the best part. The broth was incredibly flavorful and they don't overfill you on the noodles like some restaurants do. There's not a lot of great options for pho in DC but man I'm so glad this place has awesome food, my go to from now on. Service was quick and our server was really nice and funny. Hands down would go again. read more

One of the best pho place in DC! Service was amazing and the lady that served us was super sweet. Even with new owner, it's still one of the best fast casual restaurant you would expect with great food, service, and quick in DC! We enjoyed the crab free option pho! Stopped by Pho 54 while I was Downtown and it didn't disappoint. Ordering over the phone was easy and my order was ready at the time stated. I placed my order for pickup about half an hour after opening, so the Vietnamese iced coffee wasn't ready yet. Boo! Summer rolls were standard, but came with a decent amount of filling. Grilled pork banh mi was pretty good, with the baguette being on point (even with the drive home!). The bread was crunchy, yet soft on the inside. The grilled pork was very flavorful and was balanced by a similar amount of pickled daikin/ carrots jalapeno sloces, cilantro, and cucumber slices. My favorite of the dishes ordered was the vermicelli noodles with lemon grass chicken. The dish came packed with chicken that was juicy and packed with flavor. The dish also came with bean sprouts,shredded cucumber, pickled carrots, daikon radish, some peanuts, and mint. Definitely could have done without the peants and mint! Parking could be rough along the streets near the restaurant. Luckily I was able to find parking right away in a nearby neighborhood. If you are in the area and looking for solid Vietnamese food, I recommend checking out Pho 54. read more
Seems like they have rebranded to "PhoNatics Noodle Bar" now! I was shocked to see the amount of pho restaurants in the U Street/Columbia Heights area, but this was the one that was closest to my friend's apartment and it had great reviews. There isn't much seating here, but the ambiance is clean and each of the tables have some sort of inspirational and positive quotes printed on them. My friend and I were immediately seated for dinner today (Wednesday) and our food came out pretty shortly after we ordered. PHO DAC BIET SPECIAL - 15.99 For pho, this is pretty expensive, but I suppose I'm paying DC pricing. I didn't have much expectations going in since I haven't been too impressed by the pho in the DMV area. However, I'll have to say the first sip of the broth was phenomenal. It's a deep beef broth and actually felt like there were lots of layers - you could taste a hint of spice from the seasonings they used, the sweetness of the onion, and the rich beef flavor. My only quip (and it's a big one) was how oily/greasy the broth was. By the end of the meal, the broth was too heavy and was no longer enjoyable. Other than that, everything else was great, too! There was plenty of garnish (spring onions and onions, yum) and LOTS AND LOTS of noodles. I usually don't think restaurants give you enough noodles, but wow, they give you so much here! Also, the texture of the noodles were perfect. Each bite had a slight chew and it was consistent throughout the duration of my meal - the noodles worked well with the broth where the noodles didn't become soggy and the broth wasn't saturated by the starch. I'm not sure where they got these pho noodles from, but wow, probably one of the best I've had. The meat was also good and there was a lot of quality cuts. I was pleasantly surprised by the pho here and would recommend it (but would caution that the broth is extremely oily and heavy). For the amount of food given, I'd say it was well worth the price. I only wish the broth was less greasy. Otherwise, it would have been perfect. If I lived in the area, I don't know how often I'd eat pho here (since the heaviness of the broth is only good for some occasions). Still, I'd say PhoNatics Noodle Bar is one of the better pho restaurants in the DMV area! read more

this is a solid vietnamese restaurant with affordable prices. we stopped by for a thursday dinner and it was pretty empty with ample seating. the ambience is very casual and you order at the register. i ordered the banh mi veggie (tofu), summer rolls, and veggie summer rolls (tofu). - tofu banh mi: it wasn't really giving for the first few bites but the more i ate it, the better it got-- bread was well toasted and tofu was really nicely fried. - summer rolls: pretty solid- the shrimp one tasted much fresher and better than the veggie one though, which was overall a little bland. overall, this restaurant offered a nice experience and quick service! read more

BANH MI COMBINATION (Combination of lemongrass chicken and grilled pork) 6. BANH MI GRILLED PORK * 8/10 * My brother requested some good Pho for his Birthday, and PhoNatics delivered. The food came out super quick, all within about 5 minutes. Both banh mi were good but in our option, the combination banh mi was better. Our server, Tony, was really nice and cool.
