Chicken Summer Rolls (top) and Shrimp Summer Rolls (bottom) after a few taken. Two per order for $8.
    Calder S.

I rarely eat pho -- so I really have no basis for judgment here -- but I enjoyed the pho at Pho Viet a lot. I tried the Summer Rolls ($8 per order, two to an order) in both chicken and shrimp varieties, then the Number 5 Pho ($15.5) with steak, brisket, and meatballs. I'm not a fan of spring or summer rolls because they are usually bland with too much filler. These didn't change my mind. They didn't have enough protein filling and they needed the side peanut sauce to be good. The pho was very good. It came with extra jalapeno slices, bean sprouts, and thai basil for toppings, plus there was siracha and chili oil on the table. I added some sprouts and chili oil. I couldn't tell the difference between the steak and brisket. The meatball texture was a bit hard/compressed and not to my liking (I prefer more of a ground texture). The serving was enormous; I had almost a whole container to take home for leftovers. The place is a very small, with only a few seats in the front and a few in a side room. I visited on a Tuesday night and the place was very busy, with every table filled plus people coming in and out for takeaway. Decor is basic, but they have some fun paper lanterns and umbrellas. Service was barebones. It was a bit slow to get food. They didn't check on us other than bringing the food and some napkins, plus one water refill. We had to pay at the front counter which was annoying, since there is not much room to stand and there were also people waiting there to pick up food.

Really delicious Vietnamese food! If youre looking for something simple and clean this is the right place to go to! Service was beyond expectations - very friendly and food came out fairly fast!

Good Vietnamese for a quick meal. Basic decor but fun. Good service. Good location right off U St near 14th. I had the Vermicelli with pork. The pork may have been a sausage cut in slices? It was tasty. I would have enjoyed more veggies. It didn't come in what I expected would be a bowl, more of a plate. I think the bowl works for drowning the meal in sauce. However, this worked fine. Pho was decent. Good flavors and good cut of beef. Glad to see this additional option open in the neighborhood. Some of the ones on 14th are more "going out" for dinner while this would be a good lunch place or place for a quick meal. Give them a try. What did you think?

I ordered from DoorDash, the broth was cloudy/ not clear like it's supposed to be and had an inch of particles settled at the bottom.

Hubby and I were craving pho; he's been feeling under the weather lately. We stopped by for take out. Wait time was pretty quick! We were excited to try out the new Viet Pho restaurant that recently opened on U St NW. The staff was very nice and attentive, answering all our questions and even persuading me to try something new--the spicy beef broth, which wasn't too spicy, to be honest. Overall, pretty good pho; the spicy broth gives it an extra kick for sure! The beef was a bit overcooked for our taste. We will definitely try again, maybe dine-in this time!

Pho had a great flavor, nice summer rolls, really good service. Will definitely be back.

Before we even walked into the restaurant, we were informed that the left entrance door had been broken for quite some time. Since we had a double baby stroller with us, getting inside was a bit of a challenge and not exactly the best first impression. Overall Ratings Atmosphere - 3/5 Service - 3/5 Food - 3/5 Parking - Street Parking Atmosphere - The restaurant feels a bit old and dated and could probably use some updating. Interestingly, while the dining room definitely shows its age, the ordering system is modern and up to date. The contrast between the two was pretty noticeable. Service - Service was just okay. This is more of a casual setup where customers place their orders at the counter and the staff bring the food out when it's ready. There wasn't really anything memorable, either good or bad, about the service experience. What We Ordered - -Spring Rolls (Good) -Pho Dac Biet (Special Beef Pho) - The flavor was good overall, but the broth was only lukewarm when it arrived. A bowl of pho really needs to be piping hot, so this took away from the experience. -Grilled Pork Rice Plate - The pork was a bit too salty for my taste and was just okay overall. Final Thoughts - This was an average dining experience. The food was decent, the service was adequate, and the atmosphere was nothing particularly special. Nothing stood out enough to make me want to go out of my way to return, but I also wouldn't discourage others from trying it if they're already in the area. There are simply other Vietnamese restaurants nearby that I would be more inclined to visit first.

The standout for me is their spicy lemongrass pho - I had never tried anything like it before coming here, and honestly, it was kind of life-changing. It's like the perfect fusion of pho and bún bò Huế, with that rich, aromatic lemongrass flavor and a spicy kick that you can level up if you're feeling bold. It's one of those dishes I think about long after I leave. Of course, I had to get a Vietnamese iced coffee (cà phê sữa đá), and it did not disappoint. Super strong, perfectly sweet, and I love that you can actually watch it brew right at your table - it just adds to the whole experience. The vibe of the place is warm and homey, which makes it really easy to relax and enjoy your meal. The staff are always incredibly kind and welcoming too, which keeps me coming back just as much as the food does. I was a walk-in -- with luggage and a bit soaked from a summer thunderstorm -- and I was warmly greeted and even was invited to leave my bags with the hostess while I dined (and was given a Pokémon card as my claim tag!). I was seated immediately at the bar, and both bartenders were lovely. I ended up with a tasting menu -- I asked for it to lean vegetarian but was OK with fish, and they delivered perfectly. I didn't jot everything down, but a few of the highlights: - The taro milk bread with butter and a variety of seasonings representing different regions of Vietnam. It's some of the best bread I've had, the butter was delicious, and I'd have happily bought a bottle of each of the seasonings (especially the one with, I think, cardamom and peppercorn). - The grilled bamboo! I had never had bamboo in this style before, and it absolutely made me a fan. It had a unique, hearty texture and a delicious sauce. It was one of the most savory vegetarian dishes I've had in ages, and I'd have it again in a heartbeat. - The curry cake! I know their pastry chef is renowned, and it's easy to taste why. This was one of the most unique and most delicious desserts I've tried anywhere. Who'd have thought fish sauce caramel could be so good? The cocktail pairing was also fabulous! I like wine pairings but really enjoyed the cocktail option here. The Lotus was the highlight of highlights for me, but I really enjoyed the Good Luck, Babe! and the Out of Dipping Sauce (another fish sauce surprise in its deliciousness and utility), too. The ambiance was fun -- upscale but not stuffy, with a playlist that featured just about every song I loved as a stereotypical college kid in the '00s. And the bar was very comfortable, too. Plus, I never felt undervalued as a solo diner. Was it pricey? Yeah, but not unreasonably so. I absolutely felt I got my money's worth. I am so glad I tried Moon Rabbit, and I will definitely be back.

Things you would think are only savory and only sweet are being combined. It took a while to process my experience here. We started with drinks. The golden prosperity was my favorite. The purple yam drink was okay but I wouldn't get again. Same with the grandmas candy char. Then we got the taro milk bread and their vegan bread. This was a great start. The culantro butter was amazing. The bread was soft. The vegan butter was nothing like I've ever tasted. You would never guess it was vegan. So flavorful and creamy. Then we got the salmon crudo. This was simple but flavorful. The strawberries weren't needed though. Then we got the mochi beignets. This was so unique. Flavor bomb for sure. I liked the eel but not sure if I liked it with the mochi. Then we got the charred eggplant. This was my least favorite dish. Nothing exciting and the consistency of the eggplant could have been softer. Then we got the gnocchi and crab. This was our absolute favorite. Like wow! So flavorful and decadent. The crab was the cherry on top. Then we got the quail and tomato rice. The quail was kind of dry on its own. Needed the tomato rice. The lemongrass pork was another favorite. The char and consistency of the pork was so good. The mango added a nice contrast. Then we the dessert. I wanted to like these as they have received awards for their desserts but this was just too complex for me. First we got the pandan pannacotta. There were these pieces of seaweed that really threw off the whole dish. Then we got the green curry sponge with a fish caramel sauce. This was okay but not sure I liked this savory/sweet combo. Overall very unique, very complex very interesting meal. I recommend trying it at least once but I probably won't be back.
