I used to go to the Adams Morgan location, which is long gone, but the original (I think) Columbia Heights location of this pho shop keeps on keeping on. However, I found the execution didn't live up to what their menu offered. Getting a noodle bowl to go, I was hungry and took the option to get add-ons at a charge with a taro-based roll and extra tofu. The roll hit the spot with black pepper and taro flavors, but I found my tofu portion quite weak; I wouldn't have been thrilled with that amount at the base price, let alone having paid extra. Getting a coconut juice was a little odd, in that they took a can and poured it into a plastic cup and then put the cup in a little baggie and gave me a paper straw. I would have been happier with just the original can. I certainly appreciate the vegetarian-friendliness of their menu, and I'm hoping to try their spicy lemongrass soup at some point, but having recently had this same dish at perhaps the best vegetarian Vietnamese restaurant in the country, which is out in the burbs, this place needs to up their game for me. read more

Best viet food I've had in DC and one of the best priced meals I've ever had in the city (DC is so expensive ). The pork vermicelli was great, authentic fresh flavors and super chewy noodles. The pork was also well seasoned and added great umami to the plate. Also got the try the Thai tea and Vietnamese coffee which were both bangers. I was looking for a pho place in DC on a rainy and cold day. I texted my friend and he recommended this place. So we hoped in our car and went there for lunch. Although the restaurant wasn't packed but we noticed they were getting tons of online or phone orders. They had so many deliveries constantly or people coming to pick up their food. Ambiance is decent. Nothing fancy about it. Small place in the Columbia Heights area. Staff was very nice. I ordered the combo with all the meat options and extra meat. The trick is to order extra meat ad you get so much meat for the next day as well. I love the beef broth and all the condiments that come with it. Everything smelled and tasted fresh. I squeeze a lot of lime in mine. And always add sriracha sauce to make it spicy. Price is nominal especially cause it's almost like I am paying for two meals. I think with the extra meat option it costs me $17. So worth it. I then ordered on DoorDash a couple of days later. Parking could be hard to find near this location. So if you can DoorDash or Uber eats then I recommend delivering option over dine in. They have very good packaging. read more

I am obsessed!!!!! If you are vegetarian or vegan you need to try the bun bo hue. I have visited probably one hundred different Vietnamese restaurants around the DMV and none of them have hit the spot like Pho 14. The service is excellent and everyone that works here is so kind. Pho 14 is located in Columbia Heights, about a 5-7 minute walk from the metro. I live close by and it is a restaurant I go to occasionally and bring friends when they are visiting from out of town (their pho is a great hangover cure!). During this visit I tried the vermicelli bowl with fried tofu and of course, a thai tea. Their thai teas are delicious, I definitely recommend. There are a lot of options here including many for vegetarians or pescatarians. Their pho is good, it is not my favorite in DC but it is decently priced and a large serving size. I would recommend the fresh garden rolls with shrimp and peanut sauce, it is my go to! Overall, I'd recommend this local restaurant. The service is fast, the staff are kind, and the spot is small and typically quiet in an area that is bustling. read more

Nothing really memorable about this place other than the way that it smelt. When I walked in and I was immediately hit with a smell of body odor. It was extremely unpleasant. I love gelatinous meats but for anyone that doesn't they would not like this soup. The top of it looks red as I did ask for extra spicy but it wasn't really spicy at all and the flavor was pretty mild. Not a lot of noodles for it to cost almost $20. A delicious Vietnamese restaurant! I recently went here for a weeknight dinner with two friends on a cold evening. Although Pho 14 is small, we were able to get a table quickly. The service could have been a little faster but was fine overall. I got the beef pho with broccoli, carrots, and two kinds of beef. The portion sizes were good and affordable (13 for 16 oz, $14 for $24). I liked the pho and appreciated that Pho 14 had hoisin and sriracha, as these sauces added excellent extra flavor. A lovely base broth is made here. It's middle of the road in terms of flavoring and turns into a robust pho (Vietnamese soup). Pho is the only thing I've ordered here. It was voted Best Pho Restaurant by the Washington City Paper for three consecutive years, in 2010, 2011, 2012. Has it stood the test of time? Yes, I think so. It's family-run; they try hard and there's a good atmosphere. Management is doing the best they can in this godawful pandemic we're experiencing. I've only been doing take-out this past year. But, hey, this place is staying open-- gotta give 'em props for that. It's one of my go-to spots for pho. read more

Reasonably priced and busy for the time of the day. We got the summer rolls and chicken skewers. Very tasty and the dip for each appetizer - peanut sauce for the summer rolls and the Nuvo Cham fish sauce dip were well blended and delicious. Vietnamese crepe was something not most Vietnamese soup restaurants in our area offered so I had to try it. I picked shrimp as the meat. They cooked the shrimp with shell and tail on. The whole crepe was crispy and so tasty. I loved it! Now I will have to try find this dish in other viet resto closer to home and see how this compares. Loved the whole dining experience. Yummy, delicate, and satisfying. I crave this chicken pho regularly, as it's just about perfect. The broth is everything--warming, nuanced, flavorful, yet delicate. I go hard on the jalapeños to spice it up, but that's just a personal preference. The toppings are always super-fresh and crispy, and the noodles are thay wonderful, unctuous texture you want in pho. I always get this pho delivered, and it's packaged thoughtfully and usually arrives piping hot, which is key. The nice thing is, the broth is packaged on its own, so you can warm it up to your desired temp if necessary. The prices are very reasonable considering the amount of pho you get--and I go for the large, always. It's satisfying and filling in all the right ways, and I always feel nourished and warmed after downing my bowl. Love you, Pho 14! read more

I wouldn't say this is the typical Vietnamese experience - service is friendly but slow in bursts , some staff don't really speak Viet, and it's a little weird being able to pay the check at my table, haha. But all things considered, when I think of a standard bowl of Pho, Pho 14 is probably the closest. Honestly, standard is pretty hard to find. I've seen a lot of places have their own take - some too salty or MSG-heavy, others have been too sweet. If a friend asked me what pho should taste like, I would think 14's taste is good enough for friends who just crave pho. I wouldn't call it the best, but there's plenty of broth and the topping options are all of the legitimate cuts you'd expect in Little Saigon. I'm curious enough to see what their vegetation apple-based broth is like. I do have some minor gripes. The price I'm relatively okay with, and I do like the options for customizing compared to other restaurants; egg noodles are even an option! But maybe for a large bowl, the amount of meat just felt way too tiny for what I expect. The amount of tai I got could fit on one spoon. But if I'm in the area and I'm cold, Pho 14 is my stop. read more

I think I'd stick to pho and the some of the appetizers for my next visit, but I probably need to try more items on the menu to make this claim. We started with veggie egg rolls and they were awesome. They came with a fish sauce that was a bit too fishy for me but the rolls were free standing. They're also pretty big. We got the veggie pho (broth was excellent), and veggie tofu "curry" which is the same thing as the veggie tofu stir fry with curry powder. Stir fry is more of a fusion item of Vietnam and China and that's fine but I felt it was something I could whip up at home. Ambiance is really nice-there's rice hats, bamboo baskets, and other straw hut type decorations. There's also free wifi. Service was nice too- shamefully I think I was the only one that can't pick rice up with chopsticks but they were nonjudgemental and gave me all the utensils upon request. Apparently they have $5 pho Fridays which in itself is a reason to come back to this location! read more

Usually come here for Vietnamese food when I can't make it out to Eden Center or Falls Church. Pretty good vermicelli bowls and can usually fulfill my cravings. I usually get the grilled pork and egg roll vermicelli bowl. Nice quiet place in Columbia Heights and close to metro. However, this waiter said there was hot water, which seems kind of impossible at a restaurant. I came here previously and got hot water before - very confusing! read more
